I’ve been coming here for years and this place never disappoints. The waffle sandwiches are DELICIOUS! I recently tried the Dubai chocolate waffle and it was amazing! I’ve never had a bad experience at the Custard Hut 😊

Place was jumping, good ice cream, mocha shake is alright. Friendly customer service. My daughter said 4 stars are enuf lol

This was easy to get to and has a lot of options. The girl that helped us was friendly but a little aloof. The main reason I wanted to try this place was because they had plant based ice cream and I’ve been looking for dairy free options in the area! They have plant based vanilla and I was able to make a flurry with to pb cups! It was delish! But a small was still a lot for me. They also served a variety of other flavors. My bf got guernsey chocolate ice cream! Definitely a good treat!

I love the Custard Hut! The custard is amazing and I really like that they have new flavors every week. The customer service has always been great for me - they are always friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back! I highly recommend the Custard Hut!

If you’re not able to have dairy their vegan vanilla is a good treat. She said it’s free of the 9 major allergens and they’re willing to sanitize to avoid cross contamination when making flurries :)

I ordered a banana split in a cup and it was loaded with good fruits and sauce, the waitress were very polite

I've always heard about the famous hot waffle custard sandwich from cuatard hut. What a let down. Two room temperature Aldi waffles with custard. I don't know why but I always assumed they would be fresh made waffles. At any rate, won't be back.

All I can say is wow yummy! Amazing and delicious concept. Staff is friendly and patient even with large amounts of customers. I really recommend the hot waffle sandwich, it’s a 10/10, I mean 11/10, I mean BMS.

I have been coming here for 25 years before the new owner to over and updated everything. I'm so happy she hasn't really changed the menu other than adding to it The custard ice cream is always creamy and flavorful no matter what flavors of the week she has. There is usually a line most times out the door but the staff is usually very fast and efficient. Today I just had the chocolate/vanilla twist dipped in cherry. The only thing was the dip was more waxing than usually. But the ice cream waffle sandwich was perfectly made. The waffle sandwich was cinnamon, strawberry and Nutella. If you look at there instagram account they post the flavor of the week each weekend.

This is a shout to my favorite summer time custard spot! Whether it's hand packed or soft served, on a cone or a waffle sandwich, my family never turns down a chance to grab a treat from here.

The BEST frozen custard around. Hands down, full stop. Nothing even compared the rich ess and creaminess of this custard.

I love this place! It's only open seasonally. And during the summer months, I'm here once a week. The custard flavors swap out weekly, so check their Instagram for the flavor of the week. They are fast and will get you in and out. They also offer hard-packed ice cream.

Waffle Icecream Sandwich The warm waffle and your choice of icecream flavors make it a perfect combination for Cold & Hot Lava chocolate cake style dessert. They are busy most of the times I have been there and still fast with service. Not too much place to sit inside bu they have benches outside. Wish they had some trees or shade in their lot to sit but , we have taken icecream and drove out each time. Cheers!

The waffle sandwich was good. I've been here before. The service that I received once i got inside was not that great. The lady that was taking the order slips had an attitude. Another customer had purchased several bottles of water and ice cream. They tried to take the waters outside to return to get their Ice cream. The cashier told her once she let she could not come back in. I understand that everyone is trying to protect themselves during this pandemic. But you can still be courteous. I had asked if I could change the flavor ice cream before they started on it. The lady said "there's so many orders. I can't." She was the cashier, I dont understand why it was so hard to ask her coworker. And they hadn't started on my order at that time. I didn't get my order until 10 minutes later. People who came In after me received their orders before me. Do better.

This place is so chaotic and smells straight up like a urinal cake. Every single time... the same. I've never even made it through before having to walk out. The smell kills it.

Came here in the evening excited for the waffle custard and was disappointed. We ordered the plain waffle with a vanilla chocolate twist and fresh strawberries. It came out with a little powdered sugar. Into the first bite, you can tell the waffles are not fresh and it seems like it came from a box. The fresh strawberries and custard was good. Their open times are Monday-Friday from 3p-10pm

My husband surprised me and took me here, I had never been before but heard it was good! So glad I finally got to try it out! The girls working were nice and understanding, as I told them it was my first time. Happy with my choice of the month chocolate chip ice cream in the chocolate chip waffle sandwich. I feel like the waffle was maybe more on the well done side which was unfortunate. The store was nice and clean which was good! I was also pumped they had a pup cup for the dog!

I admittedly haven't had much frozen custard but this was the best frozen cream treat I've ever had in my life out of all the soft serve/frozen yogurt/frozen custard I've ever eaten. The custard tasted like pure frozen heaven. I got a hot fudge Sunday and the frozen custard was so good it didn't even need the hot fudge. When I go back I'll probably just get a scoop of frozen custard straight up. My fiancé got The Custard Hut's signature frozen custard waffle sandwich with twisted frozen custard inside and he said it was amazing. The service was fast and friendly.

I live in Maryland and was excited to try custard hut for the first time during my visit b/c I've seen it many times on an Instagram acct I follow for foodies. After arriving, me and my sister joined the social distancing line outside. There were two women in front of us who were together. They both went in and came out of the shop together. Me and my sister went in next, placed our order, and immediately after we were asked if one of us would step out so they could take the next guest which also happened to be another pair. I told the woman that asked that we hadn't even gotten our order and to top things off the previous guests weren't asked to do the same. Was she assuming that one person was going to carry both orders? Why make that assumption? I don't know why one of us was asked to leave but I do know that my sister and I were the only Black people there so it's hard for me not to feel like I wasn't given the courtesy others were b/c I'm Black. The experience at custard hut was disappointing. I'd never go back. Plus the custard wasn't great at all. They can keep the dessert and the poor service.

Pathetic place .... I asked for a flurrie with Oreos and Reese peanut butter cups w extra , and my flurry was butterfinger and Oreos. I asked the girl why there was no peanut butter cups but there was butterfinger on my flurrie and she responded they are Reese's peanut butter cups and there's extra, what do you want me to do about it ...... extremely rude teenager (I don't think she knew the difference between peanut butter cups and butterfinger). At that point I just wanted to leave and not come back.... there's no point on coming to an ice cream place that isint going to treat u with respect..... butterfinger stick to ur teeth and that's how I knew, plus came home washed away all the ice cream and they were butterfinger .... my husband got a waffle and truly I can remake it at home ... so disappointed

Found the custard to have a weird after taste. There are many signs on the walls naming off various rules, the most striking was unless you specify the kind of twist you will be responsible for the cost. In my experience a twist is vanilla and chocolate, you specify any difference. The vibe is just unwelcoming.

Service is awful here! Cute, local ice-cream shop. Pretty tight space on the inside, so it can get packed quick. Recently known for their hot waffle ice cream sandwich. It's actually much better than I thought it would be... and surprisingly easy to eat. (I assumed the ice cream would slide right out the hot waffles) They have a "Flavor of the Week" custard that they are constantly switching up. The pistachio is great.

Delicious cold desserts and instagram-worthy ice cream waffles make this place a must try, but be warned... customer service is as cold as the custards. The Good: Nice little spot with a chalkboard menu of rotating ice cream flavors and custard. The hot waffle sandwich is what we came here for. Basically freshly toasted eggo waffles with your pick of ice cream or custard. The superman ice cream was a crowd favorite in my group. I had the pistachio custard with a nutella schmear on the waffle. Also delicious! Five stars. The Bad: Nothing wrong with waiting in line for some good eats, but this had no organization. The staff didn't help control the line, so folks didn't know who was next to order. Also there is a ridiculous sign where it says that if the customer fails to specify the flavor of twist, remaking it will be on the cost of the customer. That is strange, I don't understand why the staff isn't able to sort out the exact order of the customer before making it. Definitely lost a star for that. The Ugly: One staff member clearly did not hear my friend's order and proceeded to make the incorrect swirl and blamed it on her. And her non-chalant, shall i say "bitchy" attitude ruined what otherwise would've been a pleasant afternoon of ice cream sandwiches on a gorgeous day. Lost another star for that Yelp 100 Callenge 29/100

Maybe I over hyped myself about his place: heard about this frozen custard place that offer this amazing hot waffle sandwich with their custard and I figure I should make the trek. I was saddened that they only had about 4 flavors (I'm not counting the 2 swirls) and the waffles were pretty much the frozen ones that go into a toaster. A treat is a treat I suppose but I was not wowed. I felt like I settled for my choice.

Love this place! Locally owned, delicious! Even though it was a cold spring day there were several people ahead of us and more kept coming! Nothing compared to the crowds in warmer weather! Worth waiting for! I had frozen custard swirl - chocolate and vanilla- in a fresh crispy waffle sandwich with a spread of Nutella and sprinkles of powdered sugar. Yum!!! They also have a dozen or more flavors of ice cream, etc. But they ARE the Custard Hut!

Ice cream is good as always. This made a top ten buzzfeed list! It does give you summer vibes having outdoor seating on a semi busy road. They have probably summer job kids working there and sometimes they're not the nicest but it's a hot summer day and a busy line so I don't blame them most of the time. Known for there waffle sandwich ice creams.

I had to come try the waffle sandwich after seeing so many pictures of them! It was pretty good and surprisingly you can eat them without much of a mess. I guess I assumed the custard would get pushed out of the waffle when you take a bite. One complaint is that although I'm not 100% sure, the waffles look and feel like they are the frozen kind where you cook them by putting them in a toaster like a Eggo waffle. I wish they would make them fresh and from scratch especially at almost $5 a sandwich. I also wish they had more flavors of custard. They only have vanilla, chocolate, and a special "flavor of the week." Finally, they were *extremely* nice and patient. Maybe they read their bad Yelp reviews about their customer service because their customer service was excellent! I was bracing myself for bad customer service after reading Yelp, but either they made a change or I got a really nice person.

This place is seriously crazy good. The waffle ice cream sandwich is one of the best things I've ever had. They have a variety of waffle flavors to choose from and so many ice cream flavors. I definitely suggest getting whatever their custard twist flavor of the week is. They are a little pricey and usually insanely busy, but they're worth it.

Finally had a chance to try The Custard Hut after constantly hearing about how the hot waffle sandwich is to die for. I drove all the way from Oak Park to Dearborn to get my hands on one. The building is small, probably only holds 15 people comfortably and the parking lot is even smaller. I highly recommend parking on the street. We arrived on a Thursday around 8:30pm and it was pretty crowded to the point the people behind us had to wait outside. We all ordered a hot waffle sandwich. They have different flavors of waffles (I went with cinnamon), different flavors of custard (twist is always a favorite) and then toppings. $5 for a waffle ice cream sandwich isn't bad. I took one bite and fell in love. I've never had anything like it before. Their menu is pretty big and the service was great and friendly...however there is a chance that I may have just gone on a good day compared to other recent reviews that experienced poor service. I hate that it's so far away, but the drive is definitely worth it.

After my first waffle sandwich, I knew I was hooked. I've had a handful of these this summer, and by a handful I mean it was dripping in my hand, powdered sugar all on my shirt, and ice cream all over my face. I'm always a mess when I come here. It's so worth it. Even with a line out the door, the girls are still quick with customers. Try to read the full chalkboard menu while you're waiting in that line, there is a plethora to choose from. They also seem to change their custard flavors often. Don't forget a punch card too! The only reason for my four star review is the table outside the hut, there's about two or three picnic tables lined up and one of them doesn't seem to safe with it bent out of shape. There are two things that are on fleek at this location, the custard, and the girl behind the counters' eyebrows. *Insert praise hands emoji here*

I hate leaving bad reviews but wow smile. I almost gave them a 5 star, then I had to convince myself not to give them a 1 star. Then I considered a 2 star. Settled for 3 star just because I'm a great, kind, caring, loving man. I'm not sure if the lady is having some hard times or needs to seek help if so please do so. I think life is beautiful. Don't hurt my happiness. So I was going to call and ask for the owner and tell them they need to fire one staff member before they lose business because of her. Turns out she was the owner?????!!!!! Tried the warm waffle with custard ice cream. Definitely worth trying it. Soft warm waffle with cold Soft serve ice cream inside. You can't go wrong. They should work on smiling though..it's ice cream not the social security office.

I went in and stood in line like every one else. When it was my turn the lady at the counter looked around me and asked if she could help the group behind me. Those people pointed out that I was next the employee greeted me with "what do you want?" She was very impatient with me and I didn't even feel like I could ask any questions. She seemed annoyed with me. I had never been there before. I asked about brownies and she seemed disgusted because I wasn't sure what I wanted. Horrible, horrible customer service. I will not go back. Baskin Robbins is way better.

This place used to be great when it was the old owner and they made fresh waffles. Now, it's a bitchy owner with no people skills and various overly made up snarky little girls that toast "eggo " waffles , fill them with substandard custard and act like it's the greatest... girls... bye.....and judging from the reviews, I'm not the only one that feels this way...Don't waste your time or money.... go to Custard Co. on Outer Drive and Monroe where both the product and service blows this place out of the water. I wouldn't even have given this place 1 star, but I had to in order to write my review.

Horrible service. Very rude staff. Nasty attitude. Will never return again. The girls working there and what looked like the owner had a bad Attitude before we even got in. They can keep their Eggo waffle ice cream's I'd rather have good service. The told me have my kids can wait outside while I sit inside and wait for my ice cream mind you my kids are two four and eight. Horrible place will never return.

This is probably the worst ice cream shop I've ever been to !!! Where should I start ! - very very rude owner ( she's a .... ) - they make a mistake .. u pay 4 for it ( no matter what ) - they won't let u use their restroom - expensive for nothing Do urself a favor and give ur business to people who appreciate it

Treats are average. The custard is okay (never had bad ice cream/custard before) but nothing here is ground breaking. The new owner took over and left everything the same but added ego waffles. They use an ego waffle as part of the sandwich. Yes people it's a frozen ego waffle. You can get the chocolate chip one or the regular ego waffle. I wish they would make their own waffles or something along those lines. A big issue is the customer service. The owner lady is ridiculously rude and always looks like she smelled something poopy. Their credit card machine was down one evening so she wouldn't let me come back later to pay. I had a 4 year old with me, they told me he picked his ice cream so I sucked it up. They placed it in the fridge. I had to walk down warren to a liquor store (which she told me to go to for an ATM) with a 4 year old. I wasn't going to steal 5 dollars worth of ice cream. Attitude and egos outweigh the good tasting custard.

Owner is extremely rude. She has terrible customer service and seemed annoyed to be serving me. And ice cream is just ok.

Worst costumer service. The girls there were rude. We ordered 6 ice creams and they said only one person can stay inside and take all SIX. Ice cream isn't worth dealing with these people. They told a mother that her children were not allowed inside and needed to leave them outside. She had a child in a car seat and the oldest looked 7-8. Ridiculous.

Heard good things about this place and we don't come to Dearborn often so we thought we'd give it a try. We ordered the hot waffle sandwiches and were very excited. You pick a waffle flavor and custard flavor and three toppings... I picked a plain waffle, vanilla custard and Nutella/strawberry as my toppings. Like most waffle desserts, I was expecting this to come on a homemade waffle. It came on an EGGO FROZEN WAFFLE. The custard was ok, not good, just ok. There were a total of 4 strawberry slices in the entire sandwich. Too many delicious spots in Dearborn to waste my time here. Would not recommend.

Tonight my cousin and I visited custard hut and was serviced by the female owner. She was immediately irritated as if she hated servicing customers or even working. She was not pleasant to say the least. My cousin requested for extra Nutella on her waffle as she always requests this each time we go with no issues. Tonight she rudely said she could not do that, pointed at the menu rudely and said, look you see it right there ONLY THREE ITEMS ALLOWED!!!. My cousin stated she was willing to pay extra and she told her NO YOU AREN'T ALLOWED!! My cousin was confused as she always orders the same thing each time she has went to the custard hut with NO ISSUES!!! We are always serviced by the same rude female owner! Her husband should take over or teach her how to act in public!

Nice little ice cream shop. They are always busy, but always fast as well. They are unique because they serve the "waffle sandwich" you have a choice of your flavor waffle ( I think they are just ego, but are cooked to order) then you can choose the ice cream (custard) between the waffle. They always have chocolate, vanilla and swirl. They also have rotating flavors as well that you can get swirled or alone. Custard hut also offers "hard" ice cream with about 8-10 flavors as well.

All I have to say... WOW how is this place up and running? TERRIBLE customer service with just ok-ish ice cream? The owner is so rude, how do you own a business and mistreat customers? I will not return. Thankfully there's another custard spot right down outer drive.

I visited this place because I really wanted scoops. I didn't get to try their famous waffle custard sandwich because I'm actually not a fan of frozen custard. However, I did have an ice cream cone of moose tracks and that took me back to my childhood. It was rich in flavor and their one scoop portion is huge! Lines can get really long. Theres some picnic tables on the side to enjoy your goodies. I would return for another scoop of their moose tracks!

Like the other reviewer I spent A LOT of time here in my youth. Rolling up on my bike in the summertime for a cone then sitting on the wall enjoying the sweet deliciousness before it melted all over my hand. My picture is even somewhere on the wall in one of the many Polaroids of t-ball teams they've sponsored throughout the years. Admittedly I rarely ate food here because what I came for, and still go there for, is the custard. A rich and sweet soft serve vanilla custard in a cone covered with their AMAZING sprinkles (seriously, I don't know where they get them but they are the best sprinkles in the biz). It's been my regular order for as long as I can remember. I used to rock the chocolate/vanilla twist but the chocolate is so good and chocolaty that it would overpower my beloved vanilla so I just go with the plain cone. But if you're a chocolate ice cream/custard lover it's totally for you. The space is small and hasn't changed in 20+ years. A brick building, yellow-orange counters with a few stools by the nacho chip warmer, and some coolers with hand dipped ice cream flavors (if you want to go with something other than the soft serve custard). The posters and the handwritten signs are still all the same ones they had when I was a kid. The smell is even exactly the same--I walk in and I feel like I'm 8 again! The menu is posted up near the ceiling on plastic signs with those black plastic moveable letters (you know the kind). The only thing that's changed are some of the prices but even those are still so low! The last time I was home I was jonesing for a cone but didn't have cash on me (they're cash only so bring your dollars). Luckily I was able to scape together the last of my change in my wallet to cover my usual small vanilla cone with sprinkles and a tip for the high school aged gal behind the counter! The menu offers up your standard fast food type fare--burgers, pizza, fries, etc.--which you can enjoy on the picnic tables out in the parking lot. When finished you'll obviously run back inside for a dessert! A wide variety of ice cream flavors, custard, sundaes, shakes, popsicles, and my other favorite--the slushi (blue raspberry for me, please!) are yours for the choosing. They're open only in the summers which always bummed me out as a kid but as I got older and more patient I've come to appreciate their summer only status. The Custard Hut is a treat you only get to experience one season a year which makes it all the more special.

The line is crazy. PARK ON THE STREET YOU WILL THANK YOU ME. No one can drive. The Custard Hut could use more hands on deck. The waffle cone was fresh and crispy. Tasty custard

My latest dessert obsession. I do have a thing for frozen custard. So much richer and more interesting than typical soft serves. That being said this goes a step above flavor wise. The chocolate custard in here is so delicious. It has almost a malty underlying flavor and is quite addictive. I like it on its own or in a twist with the nice vanilla. The waffle cones in here are store bought but fresh and crisp. I like cones or cups and don't bother with toppings, its that tasty and satisfying. If you are into more complicated items they have them here, endless toppings and variations. I see a lot of shakes and sundaes being made. They also feature frozen bananas dipped in chocolate, with or without nuts. That I may try. The store is clearly older and run down but I don't care a bit. The staff is young but quite efficient and friendly. I will return again for a simple cone and enjoy myself.

Fantastic tasting ice cream, but the owner has a serious attitude. I went in and asked a few questions (the price of a pint and if she had any recommendations) both times she responded rudely as if I was inconveniencing her. She wouldn't even give me a recommendation. Great ice cream, but customer service is seriously lacking.

It is the perfect day and Weather for Ice cream! My favorite Comfort Food! My Custard Hut....yes, it is! Atleast that's how you are treated.. On this one of many visits, I ordered a Delicious Waffle Sandwich!! With my favorite Superman Ice Cream inside! Yup, you read it right.. I like the childhood flavor that turns the Cone into Splendor!!....this place has them! ......I dont ever admit to eating the cone when having Ice Cream...but this Cinnamon Waffle Sanchwich, lets just say I only left the wraping....Very, very Good!! ***oh, let's not forget this one little Creamy Secret you may not know - "The Hut" has a NEW specialty Flavored Custard each week you can also stop in to try!** Tell them Yelp sent You! Disgusting customer service literally the most rudest people ever. The lady who took me and my friends order was so rude and had 0 customer service skills and the lady who handed me my ice scream was also very rude. She called my number and before I could even turn around to get it she began to be flustered by having to wait one second for me for turn around and grab it. There was eye rolling and dirty looks going thru the workers who worked the shift on Thursday,August 16 2019 at around 9:30 pm. Such an uncomfortable experience and definitely will never be going back there. Not worth putting up with such disrespect. Period.

It is a small place that you may have to wait in line for but it is worth the wait! The waffle sandwich in particular is just to die for! This may be our new go to ice cream shop!

Every time I come in here I want to try something different but I always end up with their hot waffle sandwich!! They have at-least 4 to 5 different kinds of waffles you can choose from, then you can basically do any flavor custard, and add any fruits you want plus the Nutella and powdered sugar on top! Sounds so good I just might go back here tonight! The actual store is very cute and clean! The boards are colorful and fun and the staff is polite and friendly! They will walk you through the menu and help you decide what you want etc.. Some ice cream/custard places only except cash but these guys take credit cards too so it's great! I will always recommend this place to everyone!! So delicious!
