The 21 Best Hotels in Boston

"This centrally-located hotel never drew much attention beyond the business set when it formerly operated as the Hilton Boston Downtown/Faneuil Hall–but after re-opening last year as an independent hotel fresh off a $32 million renovation, The Dagny is attracting a fresh crop of leisure travelers. It’s often said that Boston is one of America’s most walkable cities, and that is certainly the case here: it’s a short stroll away from the North End, the New England Aquarium, historic Beacon Hill, Chinatown, and the Seaport District. Throw in some weekly live jazz music from local Berklee College of Music students, an expanded Fitness Center, and a Clefs d’Or-certified concierge team, and you’ve got a hotel with service and amenities that punch well above their price point, in a city that can be known for its pricey hotels." - Shannon McMahon, Todd Plummer

The Dagny Boston

"Why book? Visitors to Boston are typically drawn to the more immediately charming neighborhoods of Back Bay, Beacon Hill or Fenway, but this recent retrofit has helped remind us that the financial district is, in fact, a desirable vantage point from which to experience Boston’s best. Set the scene We’ll be honest: this neighborhood gets a lot of corporate types during the week, and can be pretty sleepy on weekends. Before the independent Dagny launched in August 2023, this building was previously occupied by a Hilton that largely catered to business travelers. You’ll still see plenty of expense accounters passing through, but this hotel now attracts a younger demo of leisure travelers, too. The backstory Much like the rest of Boston, this building has history in spades: not only was it Boston’s tallest “skyscraper” (at 14 stories) when it was built in 1928, but it is also the site of a former weapons cache, where revolutionaries would hide cannons from the British. A 2023 renovation has, thankfully, brought this hotel into the 21st century. The rooms Rooms are comfortable and decently-sized as far as city hotels go. The 2023 redesign pays homage to the building’s Art Deco past, and adds welcome updates such as floor-to-ceiling marble bathrooms. If you book one of the higher-floor “Premier” category rooms, you’ll be treated to expansive views over downtown and the harbor. There are twenty-nine suites, which come with spacious living rooms with a sleeper sofa, workspace and a wet bar. Food and drink The hotel has two third-party food outposts on-site: Fin Point, an elevated New England seafood spot with yummy pizza and raw bar; as well as Tradesman Coffee Shop & Lounge, the second location of popular Charlestown institution, known for their cheddar and chive biscuit breakfast sandwich and inventive croissants and other baked goods. In-room dining is available. The neighborhood/area The Dagny stands in a pocket of downtown that is conveniently located just a short walk to everything both business and leisure travelers would want to see on a first trip to Boston, including Faneuil Hall, the New England Aquarium, the Seaport District, as well as buzzy food hall High Street Place. It’s definitely a corporate neighborhood that buzzes with business types during the week and can feel a little sleepy on weekends, but a five-minute walk in any direction brings you everywhere you’ll want to be. The service The hotels’ secret weapon is its concierge team, some of whom are certified by Les Clefs d’Or, the international gold-standard for encyclopedically smart concierges. If you’re traveling with kids, if you’re looking for a restaurant reservation for date night, or if you want to go to the latest hot spot before even the locals know it’s cool–this team has you covered. For families Families will love the suites’ set-up, which includes plenty of space as well as a sleeper sofa in the living area so everyone can have their own space. The Dagny is just a short walk away from both the New England Aquarium and the Boston Children’s Museum. Accessibility The hotel is ADA compliant, with wide doorways and elevator access on every floor. Anything left to mention? The hotel excels at programming that helps enrich every guest’s visit–including complimentary yoga classes on Saturday and Tuesday mornings in the newly-expanded fitness center, as well as live music in the hotel’s lobby or library each Wednesday and Thursday from 4 to 6 P.M., sometimes with a complimentary glass of bubbles included. It’s also worth pointing out that in a city known for it pricy hotels, The Dagny delivers serious value–in the colder months, some rooms start at just $179 a night." - Todd Plummer

Tradesman Coffee Shop & Lounge Opens at Hilton in Downtown Boston - Eater Boston

"Tradesman serves Barrington Coffee Roasters coffee and offers a menu of sandwiches and baked goods, including scones, muffins, and croissants. To make use of the lounge portion of its name, Tradesman plans to expand its beverage offerings to include a list of beer, wine, and cocktails. The space has counter seating, as well as high-tops, booths, and lounge chairs, and there are dark wood tables, exposed brick, and decorative wallpaper rounding out the design of the space." - Dana Hatic

The Dagny Boston (Boston, Massachusetts) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"In a 1928 Art Deco tower once home to revolutionaries’ hidden cannons, The Dagny is a reminder that downtown Boston still has plenty of character. Its recent transformation keeps the building’s original detailing intact: ornate ceilings, brass accents, generous proportions, while introducing a sharper, more independent sensibility. Locals stop in for seafood at Fin Point or a biscuit sandwich at Tradesman Café, while guests cross the street to Faneuil Hall or the waterfront. Lively midweek and calm on weekends, it offers a clear view of Boston: historic, forward looking and industrious." - Tablet Hotels

My wife and I stayed for a night just to get away. The room was very clean, modern, with nice views. The staff was outstanding! Very friendly and helpful, great valet and bag check. Excellent location just down the street from the bustling Seaport District.

Terrible experience — not worth the money I had the misfortune of staying at The Dagny from Saturday to Monday for two nights. When I booked the room, the photos showed a normal room with windows overlooking the city. I paid $650 for two nights, which is not cheap. What I actually got was a dark room facing a construction site and a wall — no natural light whatsoever, even on a sunny day. My wife and I wanted to spend a nice weekend in Boston (our first time here), but instead, we were put in what felt like a cave. It was a huge disappointment. I contacted the hotel, and their response was unbelievable. They told me they had “upgraded” me to a bigger room — something I never asked for or needed. They said they would refund $70 of the city tax — which, of course, never happened. They also mentioned that they didn’t charge me the $50 per day pet fee for my dog, again, something I never requested. I was fully prepared to pay for my dog — I just didn’t want to stay in such a gloomy room (#434). After that, they completely ignored my messages, both directly and through Expedia. No response at all — probably because they had nothing reasonable to say. There’s a guy named Ramy at the front desk — very arrogant and unhelpful. Once you talk to him, you’ll understand what I mean. Honestly, I can’t believe how unprofessional the staff is. I’ve stayed in many hotels, even hostels, and the service there was far better. This hotel is definitely not a 4-star property as it claims — maybe a 3-star at best. The room itself is absolutely average, nothing special at all. For the same amount of money, you can get a much better room in Manhattan. This place is completely out of touch with reality when it comes to pricing, and their photos are misleading. You think you’re booking a bright, comfortable room — but end up in a cave. Think twice before booking here.

Beautiful hotel, nicely decorated for holiday season. Location is great, easy walk to Quincy market area, seaport, north end, etc. not far from T station. Room was very spacious. We enjoyed breakfast at the coffee shop. Staff were all very friendly. Would definitely stay here again if traveling to Boston.

Google
This place was excellent from start to finish. Professional staff as well as great location within Boston. The rooms were spotless and our stay was very comfortable. I would definitely stay there again. It was beautifully decorated and convenient to have a choice of 2 restaurants downstairs in the hotel itself which we took advantage of.Staff was extremely attentive and paid attention to detail in our experience.

Google
We stayed here for one night and cannot express how incredible our stay was. We booked a standard king and the bed might have been the comfiest hotel bed I've slept in. Two gentlemen - and I so wish I got their names - made everything about our stay feel that much elevated. One worked the front desk and checked us in and the other was the doorman - just incredible interactions with both of them. We enjoyed our stay so much that we ended up booking a weekend at the Dagny in a few weeks from now. I cannot recommend this hotel (and it's staff) enough.

Google
I am a world traveler, so I've stayed in many hotels all over the world. I understand part of the value and price point of The Dagny is the location, being near many tourist/historical attractions. That's why I chose it. Still, for this price point, I expected more in the hotel itself. I was shocked at the extremely small size of the standard king room. There was barely room to open our suitcases, and there is not a nightstand on each side of bed, only on one side. The space on one side is so narrow, it was difficult to get in and out of bed. This room would be fine for a solo traveler, but very cramped for a couple. If you're a couple, I recommend getting a larger room. The room was clean and in overall good condition. However, I was dismayed to see a missing transition piece between the carpet and the tile, exposing a big gap with frayed carpet. It's just not acceptable for this class of hotel. The room should not have been occupied until that transition piece was put in. It is not a difficult or expensive repair. I loved the Nespresso in the room, but was disappointed to find only 3 pods and just 2 creams and 2 sugars. Again, this would be fine for a solo traveler but not for a couple. I take 2 creams/sugars in my coffee, so that left nothing for my spouse in the morning. The next day after housecleaning, again, only one cream/sugar kit was provided which is not enough for two people unless you don't use much cream/sugar. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were terrible. Again, for the price point, I'd expect high quality pillows. The $10 room credit for purchases in the Tradesman Coffee ship is great, except for the fact that when we checked out, the credit had not been applied. The employee tried to tell us that it had in fact been applied, so we had to dig out our Tradesman receipt to show him the total amount, which proved that the hotel was charging us the full amount. He then did correct the total, but it was frustrating and took time when we were trying to get out of there and catch our flight. So, play attention to your total when you check out. Overall, The Dagny is a nice hotel, friendly staff, and great location. But did I get my money's worth? I don't think so. I stayed in a similar hotel class in London, also an expensive city for hotels, and I paid about the same as I did at The Dagny. But I got a much larger room and a complimentary full-service breakfast every morning.

Google
The room was nice and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom door was hard to open and close and the tv didn’t work well. The fitness center was excellent. We booked one night and later decided to book a second night. We were told it would be an additional $540 for the second night (our 1st night was $162). We declined since this was outrageous for the quality and amenities offered. Absolutely nothing about this hotel would warrant $500+ for a night; it’s nice but certainly not a high end hotel. Out of curiosity, I checked online the next morning and the rooms were listing for $230. They were basically trying to gouge us and charge double the actual room rate. Additionally, the front desk staff was not friendly when we checked in. The staff on duty when we checked out were very nice so not a totally negative experience. Nonetheless, we won’t ever be back.

Google
Honestly an amazing stay. Wish we were here more than one brief night. Super helpful staff and kind. Excellent location close to Faneuil hall and the Harborside. Amazing cafe at base level. Very comfortable bed and spacious room. Had no expectations booking here but was a 10/10 experience and highly recommend.

Yelp
Great 5 star hotel - they check in with texts to make sure everything is acceptable/good - highly appreciated. Front desk and hotel staff are friendly. Infrastructure is well maintained, rooms, gym, elevators, lobby, and room floors, and really like the vibe - family and couple/single friendly - this is a high quality hotel. Connected to bar/restaurant which is also lively and upscale. The location is perfect (Financial District, also center of town). Really like The Dagny, plan on staying here in the future whenever I'm in town. Highly recommended if you don't mind the relatively pricey stay.

Yelp
We checked in for the night. I did not use Expedia. I booked through the hotel website. They were very friendly at reception and the person who brought our bags and us to the room was exceptionally helpful and nice. We had dinner at the restaurant downstairs. The food was good. Service was stellar. Then we settled in our room tired after our flight. No robes No extra blankets. The front desk was annoyed because we should've called housekeeping. They were delivered promptly. Ready for coffee? Oops. 3 pods that's all. No sugar or creamer. Shower before bed? The handle fell off. They fixed it. I'm almost crying with disappointment Exploring Boston will cheer me up tomorrow ADDENDUM: Good sleep last night. Coffee in the Tradesman Lounge. Best coffee! The staff is unfailingly polite and accommodating.

Yelp
The Dagny was an enjoyable stay, and I was happy we decided to stay at this hotel rather than another hotel which I discovered had horrible reviews. We arrived to Boston late Friday night, after a long journey I was very happy to see that were delightfully surprised with an upgrade to our room, as well as valet able to greet us at the door to valet the car. We stayed for the weekend and the floor was very quiet which I was happy with. The room was clean and Art Deco style. The mattress was comfortable but the pillows kind of sucked. All of the staff there are very friendly and personable, so is the check-in reps as well. The reason for the loss of star as told to me by my gf is that there was no robes or slippers in the room as advertised, the shower wasn't great, there was no extra special surprise like greeting champagne or personal touch. Overall, good hotel to stay at for the weekend, but be aware the valet is $60 a night and the restaurant has weird extra charges, slow service, and wasn't the best.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my stay at The Dagny. I was in town for work and The Dagny was the perfect location and place to spend a few days. The decor has a very classic warm upscale feel, and the everyone on the staff I encountered was very friendly and helpful. The Dagny has two places to dine in the building, along with a cute library room at one end of the lobby. My room was a nice space with a very comfortable bed, large bathroom and shower, good closet, and nice decor. The only downside for me was that the rooms have robes, but mine didn't and I didn't realize it until the final evening! Oh well, hard to miss something you never had (others said they were nice, however). The Dagny provides a credit per day that can be used at the adjoining restaurants if you charge to your room (included in the "destination fee"). That was a tremendous bonus for me as Tradesman was fantastic and it saved me having to find places to grab breakfast. I had a coworker mention that they were not informed about it at their check-in, so the staff may not be consistent about telling everyone about this benefit. They also have complimentary music/drinks in the lobby (wine on Wednesdays and champagne on Thursdays) to start the post work or tourist wind down.

Yelp
Such a perfect hotel in the perfect spot with the most perfect details . Comfy bed, large room and great amenities. Also having 2 great places to eat at each end of the hotel made it even better. There was a group of us that stayed here and we all had the best things to say about this place. Would recommend staying here and hope to be back soon!

Lisa W.

Yelp
Great location and price. The room was comfy and staff was friendly. The restaurant downstairs was tasty but staff wasn't great. I would stay again.

Yelp
We had such a nice stay here over Labor Day weekend. The room was HUGE the beds were comfy and linens nice and clean. Location was great and the staff friendly. The restaurants in the hotel were both good - all in all a great experience.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel. Very clean. Great staff. We were greeted with music and a glass of Prosecco upon arrival. The room was wonderful. I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Without a doubt the best hotel service we've had in a while. We were greeted by every staff member we encountered. Andre was excellent and checked in on us daily. The place ran like a well oiled machine and the employees seemed happy to be there. Our new go to hotel when in Boston. Our stay was a 10. Zero complaints. - Great walkable location - 2 good on site restaurants - High quality fitness center - comfortable beds and pillows - excellent staff - convenient valet parking - stylish rooms

Yelp
Somehow found this very nice hotel in the heart of downtown for SUCH a good price. I went on a weekend in the beginning of November and everywhere else in the area was like $270+ but their Home for the Holidays deal got us a room for like $170/night. The location was glorious: 7 min walk to the Aquarium, 6 min walk to Quincy Market, 15-20 min walk to Chinatown, 5 mins to the metro station. The room was also nice we got a king room and it was very nice and comfortable. The first night the heat wasn't working but when we went to ask, they sent someone up within 10 minutes to fix it. Very good quality, nothing seems worn or old, truly such a steal. The location alone was phenomenal but the quality and comfort were not sacrificed. This was a very solidly 4 star hotel? I'm not sure how hotels are rated but it felt posh. There was also a cafe and restaurant in the lobby. Didn't try them but it was nice to have the option. It did look a little fancy (pricy). Don't know if we'll ever find that price again but if so, would definitely stay here again.

Cathleen M.

Yelp
Outstanding customer service which begins when your taxi pulls up to the doors. I ordered a glass of wine from the bar and took it to my room. It was very good. I was exhausted by the 6 hour flight from SFO, so opted for room service. Excellent variety - I ordered the roast chicken and it was the best I've had in years! I ordered the chocolate moose and am saving the 2nd half for tomorrow. I'll attach descriptions and photos. I've only been here for a few hours, but so far everything is perfect. The beds are luxurious, there is a fridge, fancy coffee machine, a large tv, and windows that actually open. The staff all are very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Lovely service. Comfortable beds and accommodating housekeeping. I would come back but not with a car. $62 per day to park a car Valet only in Boston proper is crazy. I didn't make the reservation and I would have gone elsewhere. That is outrageous. The concierge was not nearly as knowledgeable as I would like. He didn't know that the Kennedy library doesn't charge for parking. I would expect that knowledge to be a given. When I went back to the room the make plans for my day, I took everything else he said with a grain of salt. Truthfully, I expect more of a hotel of this caliber.

Yelp
Good hotel in a great location in Boston. The service was amazing. The staff genuinely cared and jumped to opportunities to help you. The room was small for a family of 4.

Yelp
I travel a lot and have not had an experience like I did at The Dagny. Stayed here with a group of 9 friends with several rooms booked. I don't typically write reviews, but this hotel has SOME MAJOR improvements to do on safety and customer service. POSITIVES: Decent location. Walkable to many nearby shops and restaurants. Bed was comfortable and room was spacious. Valet was quick, within 17 minutes, but disorganized. NEGATIVES: 1) Too pricey. Too many hidden fees and taxes (over $128) on top of room rate. 2) Customer Service. Was advised upon check in to provide my AAA card for discount to be applied, which I did. The individual who checked me in stated the number was already added to my reservation (my AAA number wasn't added to my reservation). I didn't push the issue over a $40 discount. I was not advised of any hotel amenities, on site food or beverages or the "surcharges", extra fees or "discounts" that I should have used or inquired about. How can I inquire about something that I know zero information of? 3) Customer service and Safety. I was abruptly woken up by a person knocking repeatedly on my door at 7am. Before I got to the door, it opened! The door was latched, thankfully. It was a male stating "you called me" and he was there to "repair the bathroom." After repeatedly telling this random man I didn't call him or need a repair, he still insisted while holding up a cell phone to show me his call log (?). I told him we didn't call for repair and shut the door. 4) Upon checking out later that morning, I was not asked how my stay was. I advised the front desk what had happened with an unknown or identified male who entered my room. They said "we apologize." I asked them if they could tell me who opened the door to my room and the reason for this person's entry into my room? The front desk clerk stated, "it was one of our engineers and they were at the wrong room at 7am. I can see it in the logs, they were supposed to go room 'X'". I thought this was strange bc room 'X' was a COMPLETELY different wing on my floor and the room number was NOT similar. I told them this was not safe and luckily I had the door latched, and it shouldn't be customary that ANY STAFF just enter a hotel room at 7am while people are sleeping. The front desk clerk apologized again, but the apology didn't change my feelings regarding lack of safety at this hotel. 5) Bell hop is disorganized and poorly communicated how our bags would be delivered to us. The lobby was PACKED full of people checking in and out, so it was not clear of how bags could be retrieved without asking staff several times of what to expect and where our bags were. 6) I booked a standard King, but was sent an email prior to my arrival that my booking was updated to a superior king. Which included plush robes and amazing view. The email also stated, "We look forward to welcoming you to The Dagny and providing the impeccable service we pride ourselves on." I received no robes, had a view of a yellow brick building, did not feel safe and received poor customer service. Overall, we encountered numerous issues during our stay. For a high priced hotel in Boston. too many questionable issues and concerns. We do not recommend staying here and we will not stay here in the future.

Yelp
We just went for my 40th birthday and our first visit to Boston. Everyone was more then great from check in with Emmitt or Emile( sorry I could not remember exactly) to even our concierge John that got us reservations for a nice brunch in the north end. They even were nice enough to send us some comped strawberries and wine to the room for my birthday. Awesome service A+ we will definitely be visiting again

Yelp
Stayed here recently for business trip to Boston and loved my stay. It was a nice surprise to get upgraded to a suite, too! As a working mom, there is no greater gift than to be told you're getting your own little suite for a few days. A piece of privacy and luxury all rolled into one! This will be my first choice for a stay next time I visit Boston!

Larry G.

Yelp
Great stay at The Dagny. Super comfortable bed. Outstanding service all around. From the front desk to the valet and concierge, 100% can do attitude with Boston charm. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Great little Boutique hotel vibe and a really nice gym! The style of the rooms and restaurants is art deco, my favorite! Excellent customer service!

Yelp
Staying here for my fiancée's birthday and surprise proposal; the hotel is beautiful, the staff is so professional and friendly, and the restaurant attached to the hotel has a wonderful $1 happy hour for the best oysters I've had in my life. Ali, John and Barry the concierges are incredibly knowledgeable and beyond helpful with any obscure questions/requests we've had. The rooms are beautiful. Everything is walking distance! This is the best experience I've had in a hotel by far. Thank y'all for an incredibly memorable and meaningful experience!

Yelp
Great stay! We were in town for the weekend. The hotel is very nice, restaurant and hotel staff are fabulous. We will definitely be back.

Fran P.

Yelp
We loved it here. Beautiful art deco boutique style decor, excellent customer service. We had a large party of guests with many different needs for an event and the staff did a great job accommodating to us. Rooms were nice, some of the best views of Boston. Room service was excellent. Valet was pricy but excellent, quick to help and very friendly. The hotel restaurant Fin Point was 10 out of 10. Some of the best food I've had. My only complaint was the elevators were a bit wonky with some glitches and could use updating. Other than that, we loved it here and would definitely recommend and return.

Neal P.

Yelp
Adding photos of the gym for everyone. It's on the 3rd floor. Lots of equipment. The Dagny is great too

Hungry P.

Yelp
Beds need a thicker duvet or SOME duvet at least. The blanket on top was way too thin and left me cold. Towels also felt ratty.

Yelp
Overall, I had a wonderful stay at the Dagny. The staff were friendly, courteous, and helpful. The accommodations were clean and functional. There were some issues with billing, which Mike resolved with alacrity. I wish there were vegan options at the café and restaurant.

Joshua B.

Yelp
My fiancé and I are both 20, and traveled from florida all the way up here to Boston. As we arrive we were greeted by the valet who was great. We went inside to go check in after 2 full days of driving and we're told we were not allowed to stay because we are not 21 and it was her 21st birthday the next day. Management was terrible to even try and deal with the situation some how on what to do. We left and checked into the battery warf hotel, and the staff here has been phenomenal.

Tricia D.

Yelp
Gorgeous newly remodeled hotel with comfortable and up to date furnishing. Dining is also fantastic at both the Fin Point and the Tradesman Cafe right in the lobby. Wonderful experience with terrific staff.

Taylor M.

Yelp
Recently stayed at the Dagny for a 30th birthday celebration. Immediately upon arrival, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. Rob made the valet process a breeze and was extremely attentive to our belongings. The hotel itself and room were beautiful and clean. We had a gorgeous view of the city from our room on the 14th floor. Upon leaving, Rob and Jesus again took great care of us and made sure we had all of our belongings. They were extremely friendly and can tell they take great pride in their work. Would absolutely stay here again.

Lisa S.

Yelp
We are finishing up our stay in Boston. This hotel was extremely accommodating and friendly. They are centrally located to all the great tour destinations from the freedom trail to Chinatown and north End Little Italy. Had an absolutely amazing experience with the hotel staff. Rooms are clean. Highly recd the Dagny and will be telling all who come to Boston to consider this hotel.
