This little place is a cutie! Ice cream is amazing! And you get plenty! For the money! One sundae can feed 2 people! Would definitely come back!! We had the Reeses sundae!

Nice spot to get some ice cream. They have a variety of ways to get your custard ice cream. Whether it’s as a cone or in a cup. They also have a variety of toppings to choose from as well.

Peanut butter parfait and turtle sunday were good. The only issue i have with the Dairy Bar was when they started charging $3.00 for a pup cup? And there were 2 big biscuits that took up half the extra small cup. minimal ice cream.

My daughter and I , love Their Green apple sour slushes 🥤they are super yummy. Their custard is pretty good .

Staff happily helps me pick between flavors, which is awesome because there are so many good ones! Plenty of clean seating outside too.

Without question the best custard stand in the area. As someone who grew up in Wisconsin this is not a title I give lightly. I haven't tried all the custard stands in the metro, but I've been to many and this is the one I keep coming back to. The chocolate custard is smooth and creamy with a strong cocoa flavor similar to a semi dark chocolate bar. My favorite thing to get here is the chocolate heath cyclone. They are generous with the mix-ins too!

Slushes we're all liquid sweet juice no slush no ice awful absolutely awful. Did not realize the ice cream was only custard. They do not serve any soft serve only custard so if you're interested in custard it is delicious I will say. The baby cone is plenty for one person or even to share with your spouse. RESPONSE TO OWNER: Unfortunately it was closed when we realized....quality should be seen upon making....just saying...as it seems like you care...

This is by far the best custard in town! I highly recommend! Fast and friendly service. They rotate the special flavors, try them all! Nothing beats their chocolate custard cone... magnificent! I would have submitted a photo, but the cone never lasts that long :) Next time!

Great ice cream, slushees, and custard here! My boyfriend's a big fan of the cherry slushee while I get the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. We sometimes will get a green apple slushee mixed with vanilla ice cream--absolute best sweet treat! They also have chocolate covered bananas, sundaes, and 'cyclones' (custard mixed with candies) with a ton of options to add toppings, fudges / syrups, and different cones. The flavors are pretty rich, I stick with a small and it's all I need! There is also food like pretzels, bagged chips, and hotdogs. You order at a carry out window and wait outside. There's outdoor picnic tables to sit at but we like walking around. Since there's normally only one or two people working, I'd recommend going in the late afternoon to very early evening as the lines get pretty long--not surprising as it's the best ice cream for the lowest price!

Great place for great soft serve. The vanilla is very creamy, the chocolate is very chocolaty. The vanilla is identical to Costco's soft serve, a custard. They have one little sign at the pickup window that says Carmens, but the signs on the building says D&N, for Dan and Nancy (actually I don't know what it stands for). They have a good soft serve toppings menu, including coconut flakes, peanut butter dip too.

The ice cream is FANTASTIC. You can really tell the difference between regular soft serve and their frozen custard: it's wayyyy creamier, smoother, and their flavors are spectacular. The staff members are very friendly and the service is quick. 11/10!!

5 stars for the dog-friendly menu!!! We drive out of our way so we can bring our pups here for a "Pooch Parfait", ($2), and to socialize with other dogs. The custard is equally good and the menu is vast. (southern peach was a guest custard last night).

Just okay. We stopped by here last night after a movie at AMC John R, we were both craving soft serve and I had never been here before (only to Dairy-O, down the street). I had a small twist in a waffle cone ($2.85, plus $1 upcharge for waffle cone) and my boyfriend got a large sundae with peanuts and peanut butter (?) topping. Total was like $9 for both of those which I thought was rather high, but most of their soft serve prices seemed really reasonable. My waffle cone was okay but did not taste homemade. They have a few little places to sit, and ample parking, which was nice. They also have hot dogs, hamburgers, and sandwiches, hence the "Bar & Grill" portion of the name. I would probably try another local place before coming back here, everything was fine but nothing really stood out. My boyfriend said that he could have had that sundae at pretty much any place, i.e. there was nothing unique about it. My swirl cone was tasty but nothing special, as well.

Every summer I make it a point to stop here and have a custard; I am never disappointed. The custard is some of the smoothest and tastiest I've ever had. The prices are fair and there is a large selection of items to purchase.

Delightful little stop before heading home from getting computer things at Microcenter. Good prices and quality.

I am dreaming about this cone as I'm writing this review. Twist dipped in cookies and cream. Love the custard! Was a little worried when reading other reviews but I had no problems with customer service. I found the outside seating to be lovely too

When I found another frozen yogurt spot near me I just had to try it. I ordered an Oreo cyclone but I wasn't specific in ordering so I assume they gave me custard and not a frozen yogurt, as it was extremely thick and creamy. The cyclone wasn't really mixed very well, but there were plenty of Oreos in there which is equally important! The Dairy Bar itself was inexpensive, charming, and there were plenty of picnic tables and seating. The place overall was very nice and I would definitely return. I probably would specify that I want a frozen yogurt and not custard tho because I personally find it too thick.

Tasty custard but HORRIBLE attitudes. They're getting two stars only because I didn't appreciate being spoken to as if I were a moron in front of a bunch of people but their custard is actually four/ five star worthy. They messed up my order three times and blamed me for their little confusion. Sorry ma'am, I just read what I wanted off your menu, if you guys mess it up three times that seems to be an inside issue. I used to come here all the time but decided after the owners nasty attitude I'll probably stay away. Head over to Ermas, they're always nice and custard is just as good! :)

This is the best custard you will ever have in metro Detroit. I go out of my way to get my vanilla cone. I absolutely love this place and you need to go. Don't think about it and just go.

LOVE this dairy bar! Cash or credit, "pooch parfait's" for the dog, frozen yogurt or custard. (But get the custard, duh!)

Best custard I've had so far this summer! Service was a bit slow-only two people working, but the custard makes up for it!

I love this place!!! Their custard is the best hands down!!! I always receive fast service and everyone there is so very nice and friendly. My kids call this place our special ice cream spot!!!

Tough choice between this place and Erma's... I do like that this custard is firmer and takes a lot longer to drip than Erma's. When you get an ice cream there, it's already running down the sides of the cone lol. This place also has good coneys and other snacks.

DON'T BRING YOUR FAMILY HERE! The staff have constantly have ruined our family ice cream outings by providing poor service with a negative attitude, just yesterday we got yelled at twice by two different employees for no reason. I don't understand how nasty and negative these people are, I highly encourage them to take a look at how they talk to their customers because we felt as though they were discriminatory against our background. The reason we say this is because they were super kind to everyone else but us, every time we go. We will never go here again!

This place has delicious custard desserts! I've tried the mixers, milkshakes, cookie sandwich, brownie sundae, and most recently the apple dumpling a la mode and they've all been fantastic

One trip to this place and you'll throw rocks at Dairy Queen. Most soft serve is pretty much the same, but D&N is different. Theirs is a thick, rich, amazing custard. They have all the sundaes, cone dips, and blizzard wannabes you'd expect. Also, they serve hot food and have unique offerings like homemade ice cream sandwiches and chocolate frozen bananas. Service is always friendly and they also take credit cards. They're closed for the season, but you should bookmark this joint and make it a priority come spring.

Stopped by today, was craving a vanilla custard. It was about 11:20, definitely after 11. Was not opened. Disappointed!

So WAY back in the day there were Dairy Queens that had custom Blizzard flavors and other stuff because they were independently owned and NOT required to have the same franchise-based menus. While you can still find other independent ice cream places with great, non-franchise menus, etc - nothing compares to D&N. My husband and I just discovered this place after living in Clawson for over a year. It's GREAT. The menu is vast and interesting. The custard is REALLY flavorful! The service is super pleasant quick! Plus, they take credit cards. Definitely worth a trip!

Excellent place to grab a frozen custard cone, I usually go out of my way to go here versus other places like DQ as the quality is better. I also enjoy their sunday's once in a while. Even the slushies remind me of the ones I had as a kid. The only reason for four stars is no bathroom, and Oberwies is still a little better (though much more expensive too!)...

I fell in love with this place when I lived in Clawson. Their custard is so thick and creamy and I love the bonus flavors that change weekly. They have so many dips to choose from, I don't even know if I could pick a favorite. Sometimes I stray and go to Erma's. But the thing about them is their custard is soft and melts really fast. That's great that they have little bits mixed in their special flavors but I think it's a problem when they warn you to keep it straight up when they serve it to you. Yeah, because if you're not careful it'll fall apart. Sorry, back to the Dairy Bar. They've got all kinds of fun sundaes for kids and good snack food items as well.

Terrific frozen custard. Great example of bad service. This was first and will be last visit to this soft serve. Ordered chocolate dip wanted rolled in toasted almonds; what the sign called "twinkle coat". When there was no line, so as to not make a scene, I returned and stated "This is not what I expected. This is not toasted almonds." The server responded "that is what you ordered", and as if I was an idiot, repeated what I had ordered. Beware: twinkle coat is not just toasted almonds. There's a lot of sugar and maybe some toffee in it. It is over the top sweet. Instead of offering to make me a new cone , (I was ready to pay for another), I was told that this whole bad experience was my fault because I ordered the twinkle coat and my own bad attitude.

We have gone here since we were kids - the name has changed - I've never called it Carmen's, it's always been D&N Dairy. Delicious custard Sugarfree options Cyclones (blizzards) stuffed with toppings I was always sad when it closed for the winter. Now living somewhere where custard is much harder to find (and much more expensive) I really appreciate D&N.

I had went to this place for the first time today. I ordered a small cyclone. I waited awhile in line, I then placed my order and waited to the side for my order I then saw as 3-4 people that were behind me got their dessert, cyclones, sundaes, dog bowls, before me. The service bad and the cyclone was bad. It was not mixed together and the custard was bad. Do not recommend.

Passing by, I've wondered why there have been hardly any people standing all crowded around the front, like I'm used to seeing on a hot July evening... Well I found out, tonight! $7 for two medium twists in wafer cones, that look like smalls. You've got to be out of your mind. Our love affair is over... The custard is good, but not that good. I used to come here quit a bit in the spring, summer and fall. I enjoyed sundaes, cones and even hotdogs and burgers. I noticed the prices steadily rising as time went on, but after a while, it seemed that the prices became arbitrary. Almost like a game was being played each and every time I visit. Although my orders were somewhat predictable, my total never was. Prices are not posted, but usually, almost reasonable, although somewhat on the higher side. Due to history with the joint and convenience, I didn't question... Until tonight! $7 for two 1/2 cent cake cones and a little poo-poo swirl each of frozen custard!? That is something I'd expect to pay at a much finer establishment. What a disappointment. If I'd have ordered larges, my 10 spot might have just covered it. Who knows? Like I said, I think the little girls running the stand or the possibly mute, older woman are just making up prices they go. Maybe I'm being charged based on the amount I'm holding in my sweaty little fingers as approach the window? Well, whatever the case, no more. PS, what are you doing with this money? Certainly not buying a new sign or patio furniture. PPS, I did find it quite inventive when you replaced one of the bench legs with what is nothing more then Quikrete, poured into a plastic bag inside of a Home Depot bucket and turned upside down, then spray painted black ;)

The best custard in Michigan! A must have every summer. Make sure you check it out. Located in a great small town of Clawson!

Custard, malts, sundaes, dipped cones, you name it. They have it! And delicious. No wonder the line in the summertime... open late too.. 10pm. Also serve coneys, ruebens, and pulled pork... great little stop! Could use more seating.... :-)

Ask for the blueberry cookie dough combo its excellent. Everything is good and staff is always fast and friendly.

I have to disagree with the person above... I guess she gets lost in trying to be cute writing a review sometimes that her taste buds go numb from listening to her rants about how good this or how bad that is. This place is far superior to Dairy O when it comes to flavor and texture, there is nothing wrong with Dairy O (much better than Dairy Queen) but D &N has been my favorite for years. The custard is thick and rich and has that right mouth feel, plus it actually tastes of something, which a lot of these other ones just taste of sugar and some artificial flavoring. I cant talk about their regular food, cause its just something that I dont want to try. I think an ice cream place should be an ice cream place, nothing more... do one thing right, dont try to do multiple things right. Custard based ice cream is always much better than just ice milk in my personal opinion. If you want flavor.. come here.. if you want generic ice cream.. go to Dairy O... if you want something that basically tastes like frozen 1% milk with a hint of sugar, go to Dairy Queen and choke down their frozen bull semen they call ice cream.

Just plain bad service. They don't care at all if their product is bad. The food was no good and I'm not sure why they don't care, but they don't.

Wow! This is a little longer of a walk from my house, but I was so surprised at how amazing the custard was! It's been quite some time since I've had custard this amazing. And my dog seemed to enjoy the doggie dish too :) (but to be fair, she'd eat anything).

I would like to take this place and relocate it to my neighborhood in Baltimore Maryland. This is a must stop when I'm home. Just wish they were open year round. Consistently good. The custard is too die for.

Custard is ok. I've had better. Over priced for such a small portion. Not worth going back to though, it is convenient if you want something besides ice cream or froyo in the area.

I have only been here once and never again due to the poor customer service. The owner was very rude and talked down to me when I asked if they had a certain kind of ice cream, which they did not, and I guess based on her tone, somehow I was supposed to know already and should not have asked her in the first place lol.

I love their Dutch Chocolate Cyclone Icecream..it has chocolate, vanilla, walnuts, and coconut..it is heavnly..and every time I am in town..I have to go and try there ice cream...must try place

I've cream was decent but man is the staff rude. Their menu has whacky names for everything and when you ask them to clarify they're rude as can be! Probably will return since they accept credit cards and most small shops don't.

Good place to go if you're in the area, and you have a hankering for something creamy sweet. The custard they serve here is soft-serve, not the truly dense frozen custard that I was expecting when I stopped in. It was yummy nonetheless.

Hands down, the best custard in America!!!! My favorite flavors are key lime & pistachio. Yummmmmm!!! I'm just glad I don't live too close or I would weigh a ton!! Please don't EVER change your recipe.

Just had the vanilla custard. Thick, creamy, delicious! Custards fans MUST try this. I might like this more than Culvers. I want to try a custard pie next for $15.

The Custard here is very good... but it's pretty pricey and kind of skimpy on the toppings. My wife loves this place but me not so much so I averaged it out and gave a 4. Better places in the area but still pretty tasty

Today we went there, but left before placing our order. When we first got there there was a couple ahead of us that didn't want to order yet. I could tell it was annoying the girl behind the counter. Another girl was waiting for her order, and when it came up, the same girl crabbily yelled, Ma'am, pick up your order over HERE." Next my husband tried to place his order He wanted something similar to a dairy queen Freeze, a slush mixed with ice cream. The same crabby girl with long brown hair and earrings on the tip of her ear snapped at him. She wanted to know if he wanted the ice cream blended into the slush or just floating on top. It is dream cruise weekend and some loud cars were driving by so it was hard to hear her. I don't know if she was hung over since she looked disheveled with blood shot eyes, or maybe this is always the way she is. When I called her out for her attitude, she snapped, "I had to repeat myself several times and you guys weren't listening." We were shocked, and quickly left. This little snot shouldn't be working any job. I feel bad for her parents, because she must be a problem child for sure. I had a similar issue at this same place years ago, so I'm guessing the owners have bad luck with choosing workers. It's a shame because Clawson is such a nice family town. Little snots should go work elsewhere:)

This place is just as good as Ermas. It's so cute too:) they have such pride in their business ( they do little extras like putting cute flowers on their outside tables and they keep the area so clean) We do love Ermas too still and really never thought we'd find anywhere as good.... We have now:))

This place serves the most basic/common form of "ice cream/custard" that one can find on earth. Do not waste your money or your calories. Find a real ice cream not made from a bag.

This place is amazing! I've been coming here my whole life. The staff is always cheery and friendly and the custard is the best I've ever had!

Used to be good. Now twice in a row I ordered flavored yogurt and both times it had zero flavor. They must be cutting corners and not putting the right amount in the mix. One was Pina Colada and one was expresso. Both tasted like vanilla. The exresso did not even have a hint of coffee flavor. Lost my business and anyone in the neighborhood who will listen. really Stupid they had a good business going why ruin it to save a buck!!

Their custard is ok....Wish I could say that about the service...The girls there are rude and inexperienced. After I paid for my order, they just shoved it out the window without even a smile or saying thank you, have a nice day....NOTHING!! I felt like I was interrupting something. Sorry but I'm taking my business to Erma's. Always polite and always smile there. Hope you start training/replacing your staff soon....I will NEVER EVER be back.
