"The luxurious Xara Palace Hotel is set in a 16C building in the heart of the beautiful walled city of Mdina where, on the top floor, you’ll find this intimate, elegantly dressed restaurant featuring impressive artwork from around the island. If you’re here in the summer, a table on the terrace is a must, thanks to the stunning views extending across the east of the island to the coast. The cooking is technically adept and the combinations are well-judged, with menus showcasing the best of the island’s produce in sophisticated, classically based Mediterranean dishes – Scottona beef fillet is a speciality. Herbs and vegetables are sourced from the restaurant’s own garden which is cultivated sustainably in accordance with the principles of regenerative agriculture. The impressive wine list offers a broad choice with some great quality vintages – it’s worth asking the sommelier for recommendations from their selection of local wines. Despite the hotel’s sumptuous style, service remains friendly and not overly formal." - Michelin Inspector

Dining for our Anniversary at de Mondion was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm, attentive service that struck the perfect balance between professionalism and genuine hospitality. The atmosphere is truly special — dining atop the Silent City with breathtaking views over the island makes the setting both intimate and memorable. Every course was beautifully presented and thoughtfully crafted, showcasing a perfect blend of creativity and respect for local ingredients. The flavors were refined and balanced, with each dish feeling like a work of art. The wine pairing elevated the experience even further, with excellent recommendations that complemented the menu perfectly. What stood out most was the attention to detail — from the timing of the courses to the personal touches throughout the evening. If you’re looking for a fine dining experience in Malta that combines exquisite cuisine, impeccable service, and a setting unlike any other, de Mondion is a must.

The food was good and the staff very polite and attentive. However, our dinner lasted 4 hours, which is far too long even for fine dining. What should have been a pleasant and memorable evening turned into exhaustion. For a Michelin-starred restaurant, this timing is simply unacceptable.

What an amazing experience we had yesterday night. We had been in the past and were let down, so we gave it a few years and went back. The experience was totally different. The food is a superb refined take on Maltese cuisine, and with the Maltese wine pairings it was fantastic. The service so attentive and knowledgeable. Also glad to still find locals in the catering industry. By far the best fine dining experience we had in Malta.... and we have been to all, including the that has 2 stars. Keep it up guys. 10 out of 10

The de Mondion is an exceptional restaurant. We celebrated my boyfriend’s birthday at the restaurant where we had a stellar experience from start to finish. This high-class restaurant stands out for its elegance and welcoming atmosphere. The ambiance was warm, intimate and a remarkably beautiful space. The tasting menu offers a delicious selection of dishes, all prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The creativity is extremely clever, with layers of flavours to discover in each dish which all complemented each other perfectly. Each course was an explosion of flavours, beautifully presented and expertly prepared. The restaurant manages to combine Maltese culinary tradition with an innovative touch, thus offering a unique gastronomic experience. Even the sauces served with each dish deserve a special mention - rich, full of flavour and all so different. The staff were professional, attentive, friendly and knowledgable which added to our enjoyment of the evening and where we had impeccable service. We felt pampered, which made our evening even more memorable. It really could not have been any better! I highly recommend visiting The de Mondion if you are looking for an exceptional dining experience in Mdina.

Where to begin… The restaurant is set in an old “castle” where parts of Game of Thrones were filmed, offering a stunning view of Valletta and the coastline. We went for the tasting menu — which I highly recommend. Every dish was exceptional, with flavor combinations I had never experienced before. The chef’s creativity truly stood out. The staff were incredibly professional and genuinely warm. We were celebrating my girlfriend’s birthday, and they even surprised her with a handwritten card — a beautiful personal touch. Every little detail was perfect. We had our table from 19:30 until around midnight, which was ideal — arriving in daylight to enjoy the view, then transitioning into a cozy, candlelit atmosphere as night fell.

First let me say that I have been lucky enough to dine in numerous top restaurants around the world some with two or three Michelin stars. I have to say I was expecting better from de Mondion. The setting is lovely and the views from the restaurant are spectacular. The staff are friendly and attentive. However, the food was disappointing. The amuse bouches were excellent and beautifully crafted but it sort of went downhill from there. It was a shame that both tasting menus were virtually identical so really there was little choice (only the main courses differed). The fish course was lovely but minuscule. The pasta was nicely cooked but lacking in flavour and even the summer black truffle seemed pretty devoid of flavour. It was also very small. The meat course of suckling pig was very good indeed, but the vegetable accompaniment didn’t go well with it in my opinion. The desert was ok but not that special and again was tiny. To be honest I was wondering whether I was going to have to find something else to eat afterwards! However, the final flourish was a brioche which was excellent and large. However I do feel that using a bonus brioche as the means to deliver enough food is not ideal for such an expensive meal. All in all it was a decent meal but not great for the price.

The food was exquisite. The Chef brought an interesting twist in every dish. The balance between the acidity, bitterness and sweetness of each dish was well kept. I would recommend the foie gras and octopus for starters, followed by the beef for the main. The service was excellent and we were well looked after.

A fabulous Michelin restaurant in Mdina Malta. The chefs produce amazing menus from many local produce from their own gardens and from around Malta. Catering on-the-fly for many dietary requirements; plant based, vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, etc. Menus change frequently so regular visits are a must
