The Cocktail Heatmap: The Best Places to Drink in Denver This Summer | Eater Denver

"Pac-Man and Duran Duran, pinball and Prince, Ghostbusters and the Go-Gos — every piece of memorabilia and every video on TV whisks you back to the 1980s at this retro “speakeasy” behind a record shop filled with New Wave and punk LPs and cassette tapes, among other vintage finds. And the same goes for the drinks, be it an old-school Lemon Drop or Long Island Iced Tea, a Cocoa Puffs-rimmed chocolate martini or rum punch served in a Millennium Falcon-shaped tiki bowl. To add to the amusement, anyone who comes in costume gets a free shot." - Eater Staff

The Best Denver, Colorado Bars | Eater Denver

"What a blast from the past. Between the lava lamps and vintage arcade games, the Wham! and Siouxsie and the Banshees memorabilia, and the old videos screening on mounted TVs (Prince! New Order! Bon Jovi!), it’s easy to forget what decade it is inside this 1980s-themed bar. Given the lack of windows, it’s also easy to forget what time it is — which means that hours spent over cocktails in He Man- or Garbage Pail Kid–shaped tiki mugs and TV dinner–inspired snacks like pizza rolls can go by in the blink of an eye." - Ruth Tobias

Blast from the past. Brought back all the memories and nostalgia. Comfy bar chairs. Sweet service. Drinks were super cute and get you to where you want to be. All the tipsy. Feeling of the place was laid back until I started the arcade games then it brought back that 80s late night gaming energy. Horror bathroom was on point. Drinks were around $15 and the steak empanadas were my fave. Plus, I heard all the 80s gear was from the owners private stash. So Cool!

Google
Cool 80's vibes. So much to look at, lots of nostalgia. Fun that the bathrooms are different themes. Drinks were yummy. Food was on theme but I would recommend to eat before or after and get real food. Pizza rolls, Dino chicken nuggets, and cheese curds are cute kid foods, not what we were looking for for an evening of drinking.

Awesome vibe, great playlist, fun staff. Drinks are good if you like sweet cocktails, would love if they added a few less sweet choices to the menu as well.

I truly appreciate the call back to the 80s. Really cool fun vibes with 80s nostalgia all over the place. Because we have so much from the era, I would love to see it change up things every couple of months to make it worth coming back. 80s were the best!! Drinks were definitely fun. And staff was really nice.

Google
Such a fun blast from the past! Great ambiance. The drinks were off the charts - highly rec the Pretty in Pink and As you Wish!

Google
Not sure if it was an off night, but the service was disconnected, the food took 45 minutes to be served, and when there is only a 90 minute window, that's concerning. We had to repeat our requests for drink orders several times. Also, it's called the DeLorean, but there was very little relation to it. It was more pac-man centered. There were very little in the way of nostalgia. It was a theme, but not a genre or focus. Felt too much like a pop up.

My wife and I tried this place the last time we were in Denver and we loved it! Great atmosphere, playlist, drinks, and our bartender was friendly and fast. We will be back the next time we are in town!

Google
This is straight up and 80's bar and fantastic! Some go into this place thinking they're going to get a craft cocktail but you have to remember, in the '80s there weren't these fabulous craft cocktails like how it is nowadays. There are tons of fun '80s memorabilia all over the place as well as here a couple of games from that era. I ordered the Pretty in Pink and it was a fantastic drink. The bubble on the top was the icing on the cake. Definitely a place to stop by at least once just to check out.

Yelp
Yes. Just yes! Are you a Gen X'er or Millennial? Do you miss being present in one of the best decades to have ever existed? Then this is your place to travel "Back In Time" to the decade that brought you your amazing memories such as ALF, Pee Wee Herman, Pac Man, and the most amazing music ever - read Cyndi Lauper and David Bowie. As you enter The Delorean, you are greeted in a 1980's record shop from what only can be described as an homage to "Pretty in Pink"'s classic record store, Trax. Once you check in for your reservation - which you MUST have - you are invited back into the place through a "hidden door". Everything in this place down to the snacks and drinks you can order pack a punch of totally 80's radness. Must haves here include: the Buffalo Chicken Egg Rolls and the Cuckoo for Cocoa Martini. Yes, they use cocoa puffs for the rim! Their snack menu has a variety of 80's totally tubular awesomeness including Pizza Rolls, Dino Chicken Nuggets, Cheese Curds, and Breaded Mushrooms. All served up in a traditional 80's style aluminum TV dinner tray. The drink menu is not grody to the max either. You can find a fun signature cocktail that will meet almost drinking preference. The only thing missing from the menu is TAB. I ordered the Ivan Drago - their take on a White Russian and it tasted like Cinnamon Toast Crunch milk after all the cereal is gone. Take a chill pill, this is not a bad thing at all. Will absolutely go here again and continue to relish in my need for nostalgia of a more simpler time. I didn't want to go Back to the Future after trying out this new spot along Broadway. Westword 100's bars, you were right on this one. The Delorean is a bar I didn't know I needed and now I can't live without! Pro tip - dress up from the 80's and you'll get a free Marty McFly shot. Hello, McFly, this is obviously a must, like oh, my god! Later nerds.

Yelp
Keeping in the theme with Marty McFly, we went to this 1980s speakeasy before heading to the Back to the Future musical. (You get a free Marty McFly shot if you go in costume.) Made reservations and I would recommend it as the place is small and filled up quickly. The front shop is a record store and the door with the flux capacitor leads you into the neon filled, black lit bar area. A wall filled with giant neon Pac Man characters fills one wall, while another has Ziggy Stardust and extra large album covers such as Wham! Make It Big. Cocktails are 80s themed and range from sweet to complicated to old favorites - much like the 80s. I tried the 'As You Wish' (Princess Bride) which was definitely an attention grabber. When other patrons saw it, they wanted it. A mix of strawberry, vodka, and cucumber, this drink was in a fizzio glass and came out glowing with a delicate cloud bubble on top. It was a good drink but a little too sweet for my taste so I switched to the plainer 'Diane' (Cheers) - vodka soda. They also have snacks which are referred to as TV Dinners and come out in foil trays. They are your standard fried foods. Buffalo chicken egg rolls were the best on the list. They also let you order food in. Our server was amazing. She was the only one in a very busy bar and kept things moving. The only hold up was getting drinks because some of the cocktails take a bit more time. Happy Hour runs from 5-6pm W-Sun. $2 off apps and drinks, $3 off specialty cocktails.

Yelp
I tried several times to go and they were never open. Turns out they open later in the day. I think they would get more business if they were open during the day on the weekends. I finally go to check it out one afternoon. I didn't know it was a speakeasy type of place using a record store as a front. Once you go in the decor is super cute with nostalgic items and signs. The drinks are a little pricy for what you get. Basic drinks just displayed in a cool way. This isn't a place you would hang out and drink all night. We had one drink each and moved on but soaked in the fun stuff to look at while there. I got the One-eyed Willy drink that comes in a treasure chest with dry ice. Fun way to serve a drink. Overall cute place to visit every once in a while.

Yelp
So very 80's!!! We all had such a blast from the past! We all got a fun drink and a food item. I loved how the food came in tv trays! The drinks were really fun and yummy. They have a few arcade games and it's nice that you can order quarters to your bill. Parking was easily found on the street, or take an uber like my sister did. Make sure to get the hungry hungry hippo candy, very fun!!

Yelp
Love a themed bar! Your reaction should definitely be WHOA! when you first walk into the Delorean. The decor is on point and so fun. TVs were a little loud at times. I met my friend here to catch up over a few drinks. We sat by the front, which was ideal for people watching. I liked their Strawberry Shortcake the best. The Hot Scott wasn't very "hot" as in spicy, but maybe it's not meant to be. Some munchies like pizza rolls are available if you're hungry. I'm excited to come back sometime (because I always happen to be in this neighborhood) and play all the games!

Yelp
Cutesy place, but not sure what's so great about it. We didn't have a reservation and had to loiter around the bar. It's small inside with very little room. Luckily you're paying $15-18 each for small, underperforming drinks. My Who Shot JR was almost $18 and maybe four swallows. Smallest cocktail ever. My wife's Kuckoo for Cocoa Puffs was a bit bigger but not much. If you're going for the environment, great. If you're going for top notch beverages and pricing, keep looking.

Yelp
We heard the name & instantly said let's go back to the future! McFly, Buffalo, and the whole gang were all there, lol. This was exactly what we all expected and more! As soon as I saw the Flux capacitor on the door I got excited & knew it was on like Donkey Kong! I am a Back to the future fanatic so this was my mini Disneyland bar night coming here. We met the rest of our group here to have a great time & dance the night away. When you walk in it looked like the 70s & 80s puked and it's perfect. Nostalgia came instantly!!! One of the cool bar seating areas in the middle of the bar was an old school ENTIRE speed boat like I was on lake Michigan in Wisconsin & Chicago during the summers. There is a cool Pac Man mural on one wall with pinball machines and plenty of pool tables. All over you see cool things like 6ft Clark Griswald & Peewee Herman Cut outs to take pictures with. The bar is a huge old school sunken I. The floor bar with old school seats. The prices were really reasonable and the late night snacks were cool too like pizza bites, cheese curds, DINO Nuggies, yes Dino nuggies! I just wish there was a dipping sauces fir the curds. But hey they came in old foil tin, lol. There were cool drinks that came in cool mugs/ cups like the The ship from Star Wars etc. All had a great time. Service was amazing all the bartenders & servers made the place very enjoyable. We had a blast and just danced the night away and I don't dance in public. This is a must stop is you loved back to the future and the old-school.

Yelp
Total vibe. If you're a back to the future guy or gal, you have to stop by. The games are 25 cents and the drinks are plentiful. The play list if a vibe all it's own in the era of video killed the radio star. I highly recommend sitting in the corner globe chair and having a pretty in pink cocktail. Keep in mind that this place is pretty small so reservations may be needed unless you go early!

Yelp
This place is super fun! loved the theme and the menu. it's brand new and definitely feels clean. We went with a reservation which definitely seemed to help get in and get a table. it was pretty busy and banging in there but could still hear the other people I was with, and the service was always around to make sure everyone was good and I imagine can only get better as the flow settles in after opening for a bit longer. the drinks were pretty good! they ran out of some tiki glasses for the kessel run because everyone was wanting that drink but they offered the same drink in a bigger mug because of that so I can't complain! The real allure here is the setting though. it was so perfectly retro and even had crazy 80's carpet. there is music videos from the 80's playing on the tv's in there and even a few arcade games including ms pac man to go with the crazy big neon pacman lights on one wall. there is one bathroom that is all REDRUM themed with gnarly baddie pics so be forwarned if that's not your jam! otherwise definitely use the ghostbusters one lol. We didn't get to try the food but we saw plenty of people order it and looked like okay bar food snacks. no big meals here so its mostly munchies, which is not a bad thing, especially for a date night; maybe grab a bite before or after here if you are looking for a full meal.

Yelp
The Delorean was on my list for awhile now. I was shopping in the area and I saw parking on the street and immediately thought " let's get a drink" there was plenty of parking Sunday afternoon . I walk up into the tiny little retro shop that has actual items for sale. CDs tapes records shirts ect. The person who was there was so chill. Asks if I had questions about anything and I said " no I just wanted to pop in and get a drink real quick , no food or anything" they said ok and took me right through the flux capacitor door. It was decked out in a cool Christmas vibe. Sat in the corner and I checked out the QR code menu, drinks were creative and on the pricier side but I was fine with that. DD got a Coke. I had a masters of the universe mai tai. It was big and good ! The bartender was very nice and answered questions I had. I liked the vibe . It wasn't busy at all , maybe 9 people inside. I think you have to go online for a time though , that's just a thought. Food was was just quick bar food , it's not really a place to eat. I will come back.

Andrea M.

Yelp
Service is awesome here! They have a cheaper drink menu called Norms Favs for people who are complaining about the prices Also this isn't a dive bar so why would you expect dive bar prices The ladies who work here know their stuff and I dig the record store entrance! Stop in and give it a try it's fun and lively!

Yelp
This is awesome! We loved this place. The music, the pictures, the drinks, the atmosphere was just great.

Yelp
If you like the 80s, this is the place for you! The decor, the videos, and the drinks all remind me of the greatest decade.

Yelp
A really interesting and fun place to enjoy a cocktail. The ambiance is 70's themed, its dark and intimate with surprisingly decent espresso martinis. Our bartender was super friendly and chatted with us throughout our visit. If you love 70's music and music videos while you drink this is right up your alley!

Stefanie S.

Yelp
Such a fun time! Spent a few hours here while on a trip to Denver. Had music videos playing throughout the bar. Really cool decorations and .25¢ arcade games and pinball machines. The drinks had fun names and we had a great time! Highly recommend this place for all the Gen Xers out there!

Josh R.

Yelp
My group got locked out halfway through our time at this place because their door is like... inside of another place's business? Or something?? The space is OK, but I don't understand why it is as expensive as it is. I've spent less money over a weekend in Manhattan, NY than I spent on 4 cocktails in this bar. It's nothing you can't get at literally any other bar in Denver. The food tastes like it comes out of a bag from the freezer, the drinks are weak, idk. Cute decorations is my only positive thing to say. I would recommend 1 Up on Colfax over this place.

Yelp
Visited on Saturday and what a disappointment, made even worse because we had to Uber there and back home. We had one miserable drink each and left. The speakeasy type bar has been over for years. Just let patrons mingle without needing a seat to be admitted. The bar touts itself as 1980s themed, but then is furnished with a 1960s egg chair and new knockoffs of other 60s styled chairs. The carpet is truly atomic themed which is of 1950s general design, but I guess since it was in neon colors they thought it would pass. The multiple lava lamps also are misguided, as they're decidedly 1960s. If you know anything about 1980s culture and design, you will be disappointed your first step into the place. The single Patrick Nagel isn't cutting it. The only other thing 1980s about the place were the music videos playing on the plethora of big screen TVs. However, it was obnoxious how many TVs there were. The faux neon signs were also hideously bright, making for an uncomfortable atmosphere. You could tell we were not the only patrons who felt like they were under the microscope given the ultra bright lighting. The music being played at 9pm on a Saturday was lackluster and sleep inducing. Can we get something upbeat?! Their Instagram page touts pinball, yet the one machine I found was just eating quarters. I guess this harkens back to the 80s and poorly maintained machines. Our tiki drinks tasted of raspberry sugar syrup, nothing else. If you are looking for quality tiki drinks there are much better places on Broadway and downtown. If this place lasts six months I'd be very surprised. Had we not Ubered there, I wouldn't have even stayed for one drink. What a let down.
