The Demon Celebrity

"The crossover between two stars of the gastronomy world, Chef Alvin Leung (a.k.a. Demon Chef) and Master Fu of the now-defunct Celebrity Cuisine was eagerly anticipated by all foodies. The two chefs put a new spin on the familiar Cantonese flavours, with collaborative efforts such as fried pork intestine stuffed with minced cuttlefish and black truffle. Chicken wing stuffed with bird’s nest, one of Fu’s specialities, can also be enjoyed here." - Michelin Inspector

Food is not only average, some of it was bad. We ordered 5 dishes, for the price point, it was so average. Not sure how this restaurant got a Michelin star in the past. Sweet and sour pork: average. Taste the same as other restaurants. Veggies: average. Wagyu steak and onion: average Fried oysters: average, even a little bit fishy. Black garlic Chicken soup: for context, I am Chinese and not a stranger to 中药 soup. But this was so bad. Worst soup I have ever had. It was both sweet (not in a good way) and bitter and for some reason, mushroomy? I took one sip and that was it. Server mentioned that this was meant to taste like this but I wished they told me upfront, I would have never ordered something this bad. They gave us free dessert as an apology. But I don’t recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We started off with the stuffed sea cucumber, which had a delightful texture , soft and bouncy on the inside with a thin, crunchy crust on the outside. The creamy cheese and onion filling added an interesting twist to the traditional preparation. While the combination worked surprisingly well, I still personally prefer the classic braised sea cucumber served in its rich, thick brown sauce. Next came the pomelo skin with prawn roe , a dish that requires meticulous preparation. The pomelo skin was braised beautifully in a savory gravy, offering a tender texture with a subtle citrus hint. It’s not something you easily find in most restaurants, and I was genuinely pleased to enjoy such a well-executed version here. The braised beancurd was another highlight ! incredibly soft, rich in soy flavor, and delicately browned on the outside while remaining wobbly smooth inside. It simply melted in the mouth . Absolutely loved it. The undisputed climax of the meal was our pre-ordered salt-baked chicken, easily the best I’ve had so far. The chicken, marinated with Chinese rose wine and baked to perfection, looked humble but delivered a deep, layered flavor that penetrated right to the bone. Even the bones carried the fragrance and taste ,truly outstanding. While the food was exceptional across the board, I couldn’t give a full star due to the service. For a Michelin-rated restaurant, service should complement the culinary standard. I arrived early and was seated at a cozy table, but the chair was noticeably stained , only replaced after I pointed it out? Tea refills were not done proactively, plates weren’t changed promptly, and the serving pace was slow despite the lunch crowd only starting to build. I also noticed that service in the main hall was noticeably more efficient than at my section. Overall, the food is top-notch and well worth a visit, but the service needs refinement to match the restaurant’s reputation. I’ll definitely return to try their crispy chicken dishes next time — hopefully with an improved service experience to complete the meal.

The restaurant moved from Central to Times Square this year. We went for dinner this week (our second visit) and tried the Shaoxing wine chicken which was extremely tender but lacking in wine fragrance. The crispy bean curd and pomelo skin were surprisingly good. Sweet and sour pork was fair. We reordered pork lung almond soup, steamed red dates cakes and sweet almond soup dessert which remained delicious! Restaurant was previously located in Central which looked more modern and elegent. Last time we tried lobster which was fresh and well presented (prior order required). Beef brisket was tender, fried pigeons were tasty but a bit dry. Staff were courteous and attentive. Restaurant maintained it's high food quality though I think it looked smaller and ambience was less attractive than its previous one in Central.

A new Chinese restaurant in South China building providing decent and iconic old-days Cantonese dishes, the environment is nice and spacious. The premises was used for Jimmy’s Kitchen before. The portion of dish was relatively small considering their charges. Overall, the taste was good. Can comeback to try when free. Food/taste: 4/5 Ambience/environment: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Pricing: 3/5

Michelin 1 Star chinese restaurant. Food is delicious, with a selection of the best Cantonese ingredients. Waitress was very attentive. The only drawback is that the restaurant is located on a lower ground level, hence limited by low ceiling heights, etc.

We sat at the very backend table. Servicer came quite often to check on us. Food was so so. Maybe we did not order the expensive signature dishes. Chicken wing with stuffed bird nest was crispy. Red dates pudding was soft and nice. The others were average. Renovation was dark and simple.

Beautifully decorated dining atmosphere with attentive and knowledgeable staff. The food was more refined than the usual Chinese affair with some small twists on a few dishes. The roasted baby pigeon was divine, baked crab was delicious and and stuff tofu was so very flavourful.
