Phil Vettel Is Leaving the Tribune and Chicago Without a Food Critic | Eater Chicago

"A regional newspaper cited as an example of aggressive cost-cutting after acquisition by the same hedge fund, illustrating a pattern of newsroom reductions that critics say has influenced similar decisions elsewhere and heightened concern about the decline of local journalism." - Ashok Selvam

Would give zero stars if I could. They had a sales rep at King Soopers, using high pressure scummy sales tactics to try to get me to sign up. The way he talked confused me. He didn’t make it clear that I was signing up for something until he asked for my card. I stopped and clearly told him “NO, I don’t want to give you my info”, told him NO several times. Then he started begging, told me it was close to his birthday and that he didn’t get any sleep, and he tried to bribe me (which the way he acted, I don't think he was supposed to do that). I felt really bad and figured I could just cancel later instead of making a scene in the middle of the store. That was a big mistake, it was just a scummy scam tactic to get my info. Got home and immediately called their number to cancel the subscription. First call didn’t even go through. Second call got someone who barely spoke a word of English. I didn’t understand 90% of what she was saying, so I clearly stated that I don’t want this paper, just delete my whole account, cancel all of it. Barely caught her trying to pressure me back into a subscription. Through her jumbled English I heard something along the lines of “but your family might like the articles and want to sign up, just try, yes?” These people are too stupid to understand NO apparently. So I called my bank and told them that I don’t want this subscription, and if they see future charges, those should be flagged because I already cancelled. Gives me the impression that their paper is poorly written, why else would they need to use high pressure scam tactics to sign people up? If they had quality journalism, don’t you think people would be flocking to them? Might be down $16 on an already tight budget. Reading other reviews, and my stomach is just dropping. Will update my review if the hassle continues next month.

They took my money for over two months and got a total of 3 papers. Every week I had to call and got the same “we credited your account and escalated this to the manager” yet nothing got done and I never was credited. So I cancelled. Never will I buy this paper.

Sold my number to a call center who refuses to take me off of a call list. I have received 100+ calls from their representatives trying to get me to resubscribe.

I signed up for a three month subscription, called to have it cancelled and they said it would auto cancel. Before the 3 months was up they added two more additional charges, even after I called to have my payment information completely cancelled and removed. I have spent many phone calls and e-mails trying to get refunds for the charges, especially considering I haven’t even received a paper in weeks. The Denver Post is scamming people and rude with customer service, placing many “refund requests” in which they never got back to me.

Do not talk or work with these people, they will never leave you alone for the rest of your life. I signed up for a promo deal a few years back and to cancel it was kind of a pain, but what is worse is no matter what I say they never stop calling me. They just called me again today, hence the review... I'm sorry for my negative review Denver Post, but you need to get it together, you remind me of an Ex with serious attachment issues. Its over, now move on with your life and leave me be.

I would give zero stars if I could. The guy at the market who signed me up said it was a free trial, and cancelling was easy. Both of those were a lie. My card got charged $21, and when I went through setting up an online account, it said the option to cancel online wasn't available. So I had to call this number. I tried calling two diff days, each day waiting on hold for about 20+ minutes, only to get transferred and get put on hold again. Finally after talking to someone, they tell me they can't refund my money even though I never got one copy of their paper to my house even though I had been subscribed for 5 days. Not that I want it, anyways. What a racket. I'm so disappointed because I'm a huge advocate for printed news, but this is not the way to do it. Trapping folks into a subscription and making it near impossible to cancel. Just wow. EDIT: After opening a case with the Better Business Bureau, the Denver Post refunded my subscription and I was able to cancel it. So I would highly recommend going this route if you're not making progress trying to get ahold of them by phone. As for the nonstop harassing phone calls, I noticed that if I blocked all the numbers they try calling from, I won't get them anymore 😆

I got a subscription to the Denver Post and not a single newspaper was delivered. I thought my subscription must have been cancelled or had not gone through. I was contacted three months later about my card being declined. I told them I had not received a single paper and they said that I would still need to pay them $40 for the month that my card has been declined. I ended up paying for three months of a paper that never came then had to pay another month plus a late fee. This paper is a complete scam. A truly unethical and despicable company. Do not subscribe.

I supported the paper with my subscription dollars, and finally canceled because I wasn't getting much value. Once I canceled I began getting "robot calls" from different Denver Post numbers that hang up on me as soon as I answer. I assume the goal is to frustrate me to the point I not only will never subscribe again, but I'll actively go out of my way to discourage others.
