The Most Lovable Dive Bars Around D.C. | Eater DC

"Lovingly located under train tracks, Brookland’s stoned-framed tavern is a hyperlocal favorite for pickleback shots, canned beers, and all sorts of year-round crushes. A casual kitchen sends out pulled pork sandwiches, chili, and air-fried hot dogs, but patrons are more than welcome to order in their own food." - Tierney Plumb

Nice pub. Nice drinks selections, a bit higher quality than you would expect or perhaps just very well presented. Same with the food. Delicious, well presented, not too expensive. Friendly staff.

Google
Extremely cool vibe and character, completely unpretentious in a way that many DC joints often aren’t. Lots of interesting memorabilia and art in a unique, historic looking railroad building.

Google
We came for a couple drinks on a Saturday night. Nice indoor/outdoor and downstairs/upstairs options. Danceable music. Only downside is overused bathrooms not serviced late into the night. Rooftop balcony is nice! Lots of space even when busy.

Google
Love a good queer bar! Loved the crush drink! They have fun events too! I’ll be back!

Google
I used to love coming here, not anymore. This place has gone downhill in service but their prices have climbed. They now charge a 20% default service fee for all orders which is ridiculous considering the server only came to the table twice in 3 hours and that was after we had to go find them. We had to go the bar for 3 out of the 5 drinks we got here. And when I asked for water at the table, I was told “you can get it from the water station”. We sat ourselves, got our own drinks, and got charged a 20% fee for it.

Google
Honestly my favorite "dive" bar in DC, super close to metro, and just off a walking/bike trail, constantly has an amazing atmosphere and hosts to the most amazing queer events, as well as cool things throughout the year.

Mauro Uriza

Google
This review is not for everyone, this is my favorite type of place... neighborhood bar with great drinks, solid hang out music and an outside deck on the railroad tracks right under an overpass. Relaxed local spot for the neighborhood and a must stop for a couple of beers if you're in the area.

Google
I saw you're at 699 reviews, so I wanted to have the honor of being the 700th! Dew Drop is the best spot to meet up with anyone and everyone. I appreciate Adrienne and the crew, and all the fun events/variety of events. Also, gotta love a cocktail with a side of cornbread!

Yelp
Third time is a charm! I've come here on two other occasions and it was super crowded at Dew Drop, so service was so so. Stopped by on a Friday afternoon during Happy Hour and I enjoyed the ambiance! They have a pretty decent patio setup and there's a food truck that pulled up with decent Mexican food. Looking forward to enjoying this spot in the summer!

Yelp
So this was my first time ever EVER EVER EVER hearing about the Dew Drop Inn and I am still to this day puzzled, confused and thinking to myself "Sis must not be living" like I thought I have. If I thought I was out in these streets last summer BABBEEEE I was sadly mistaken as this is a gem. Now, I enjoyed the first and the last DJ as there were a total of three for The Funset, however the second DJ just didn't speak to my spirit, he kept mixing songs that were bangers but then never allowed the hook or popular parts to play. I hate DJ's that just tease the crowd. The ambience is a ten from the foodtrucks outside, to the cookout feel. You are literally at your favorite uncle and aunties house with the picnic tables outside with a DJ and the two floors offering both a bar and speakers blasting the DJ's set. The rooftop was even an amazing vibe, with picnic tables and doors open leading to the second floor bar and dance floor. I enjoyed how all doors were kept open so you could mingle and move freely throughout. Now for the drinks They were weak. Really weak, four drinks later and I know now that when I first arrive I will bring my own drinks as you an outside as people also had cigars. Bring your own drinks to pre-game before 9pm arrives and t he party has to move in doors. This will be my spot this summer I just wish it was not on Sundays , because UMMMM I work I was puzzled that these people acted like F-Monday we Outside. Really wish this event was on Saturday's as I can not afford to call out every Monday. But best believe I will be back!!!

Yelp
I haven't been back to Dew Drop Inn in ages!! A friend of mine was leaving town and decided to have his farewell party here, and it was a great excuse to return! It looks just as I remember, being right at the turn of the street and having limited parking. It was my first time going on a weekend... and now I see what the bar is like when it's more crowded! Someone was at the door checking IDs, and provided two tickets for 1/2 off items. I was early, so I got settled at the bar and ordered some veggie chili. It came 10-15 minutes later, and it was DELICIOUS! It was flavorful on its own, and the little cornbread it came with was addictive. I'm just upset there wasn't more of it! It wasn't long before the rest of the crew came, and the place really got crowded! Thankfully there was an outdoor patio to escape to, but it was raining off and on, and there was no cover! There was a DJ spinning tunes all night... in my opinion though, he was all over the place! There was more genre hopping than there are colors in a jar of jelly beans XD!! So the music wasn't my favorite, but otherwise it was a good time. I do think I prefer the quieter days, but I'm glad to see Dew Drop Inn is still going strong!

Yelp
Cute little spot where you have plenty of outdoor space along with a deck and indoor space. The vibe is low key like an adult college party. The parking can be tricky.
google avatar

Orest S.

Yelp
It's seems like s place for cyclists to get a pint during their bike ride. This is exactly what I did! :) The people are nice and friendly, I felt very safe there. Didn't try any food, but charged my phone there. I like this place overall, especially those signs inside. That's a great dive bar, but I didn't like the service fee 20% included by default.

Yelp
I LOVED it here! Went with 4 friends for a couple drinks and the vibes were so cool! Inside, there's a ton of framed art and seating both down and upstairs plus the dance floor. Music was loud enough that you could have fun but not so loud you couldn't hold a conversation. They have 4 single stalled bathrooms, all gender neutral which I loved! And their outside seating is huge. We sat outside and enjoyed the quiet and the pretty rainbow string lights under the tent. I got 2 ciders and they were delicious. I don't drink very much, partly because I don't like the taste of most alcoholic drinks, but when I told the bartender what I normally like, she gave me the perfect rec.I loved my drink. All my friends did and we all got different things so we were able to try a decent part of their selection. One of my friends got a frozen marg and it was strong and really good! You can open a tab or just pay for one drink and a 20% tip is included, and the bartender told me upfront that was the case. I never mind when places include tips, but its always frustrating to me when I feel like they're doing it covertly to get another tip on top but she was just like "this includes tip already" and it prompted me to tip more but it wasn't weird to click no tip! A small thing I appreciated. My only con is that it's like, in a weird location. There's nothing around and it's a 10 min walk from the Rhode Island metro. I liked that this meant it was quiet, though. Feels like a DC secret, only the cool people know about haha. Highly recommend this place. I hear they have dyke nights and trivia nights, so I'm excited to return for one of those!!!

Yelp
Is this DC's only dive bar? It sure feels like it. Dew Drop is the truth and the way! Ample seating, affordable drinks, late night hours, and community events. Bartenders are always helpful, friendly, and genuine. This is the GOAT.

Yelp
Dope spot but I was holding my phone up by the DJ booth with a song request and the DJ bit my wrist ?? 5/5 I will be back tho Edit : this is a joke I love this place

Yelp
In a city known for its suit and politics, The Dew Drop Inn is a breath of fresh air. Located in a historic standalone building near train tracks in Edgewood near Brookland, it's more of a dive bar that invites patrons to let loose and enjoy a chill evening. A friend and I went for drinks on a Tuesday evening. Here's our experience: 1) Drinks: Their menu is large with beer, wine, hard cider, cocktails, and crushes. I ordered the Orange Crush and the Razzberry Lemonade Crush. Both were what I wanted- refreshing and no-frills. 2) Space: The inside is one large room with an upstairs and two restrooms. It's dimly lit with quirky decorations on the walls. Outside is a large space with first come, first serve picnic tables. 3) Service: Despite being busy, the staff were calm and efficient. 4) Price: For drinks, they always have deals and our cocktails were under $10. 5) Hours: Open every day, they keep the doors open late Sunday through Thursday until 2 a.m. and until 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. There's street parking nearby.

Yelp
. Came here for a late night drink because the pizza place that we tried was closing on time and they really wanted nobody there So this was this closest joint that we could grab one. I tried one of the beers from Austin cider company and my friend had a fictitious Coke. They literally gave her a Shasta. The two of these combined was 15 bucks which I think is pretty outrageous anyway we sat outside thankfully they had tents. Lots of huge rats around kind of messes with the ambience but the biggest irritant was that it's right near the rail line and the trains run at any one time for 2 minutes on end and they're very loud. I think if I wasn't in this area I would never have checked this place out but this is a one and done for me.

Chris B.

Yelp
"Funset" on Sunday was awful. Whole experience felt like a suspect money grab. Bartenders upstairs couldn't mix basic drinks outside what they practiced on the suggested menu. Then overcharged after winging it. It was so sad I had to laugh. The sound from the outside DJ booth- the main reason funset is "funset"- was also awful. Sound from previous sets were on point, so quality sound can be achieved. Then to just move the speakers inside at 9PM destroys the quality of the experience . Do better or trust Funset not going to hit like it use to. Or maybe that's the point.

Yelp
Great dive. Loved the joint. No peanuts juke broken my first beer choice out. Bartender was a gem . Would have bought a t shirt if they sold them. Who owns this place their missing out on lots of dough

Yelp
This is a great spot located in DC. When we went it had a food truck and some live music outside. The service here is great and staff are very friendly. There are many regulars that come to this spot.

Yelp
Dew Drop is one of a kind. It's in an historic stone building right off the Metropolitan Branch Trail (which makes it easy to hop from Metrobar to City State Brewing to Dew Drop in one fun evening out), and it's the kind of place that feels like a neighborhood party inside and out. The space offers up different experiences, with a loud and crowded patio (with a DJ on Sunday nights), a large, chill first floor bar with lots of standing room, and a laid-back upstairs. The upstairs has plenty of seats and even a smaller roof deck. They have divey atmosphere with eclectic knick-knacks all over the walls, but a surprisingly large selection of liquors, cans, and draft beers. Good specials, too - the dickel and a pickle, a $10 pickleback with Dickel Bourbon, was a big hit with us. I believe Dew Drop is owned by the same people that run Wonderland Ballroom, and DC Brau collaborated with them to create their own beer, called Wonder Drop Lager. I'm not usually a pale lager kind of guy, but this one is super smooth. Plus only $4.50. Can't beat that. For food, they don't cook in-house, but they have a rotating selection of food trucks that park right outside. We scored some delicious fried fish and chips from Seafood Boss around 8:00 on a Sunday night. Great time.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cute spot and who doesn't love being able to dance outside! Love how chill the vibes are and how the spot overall encourages you to just enjoy the moment you're in. I'll be back to this little gem
google avatar

Jacobi M.

Yelp
It was ok. The tip is automatic with every drink. I think about 18% which is moderately steep. I was hoping to see the upstairs bar but it was closed. Not a lot of other bars too close but maybe would come back.

Yelp
This has become one of our places to hang out during the pandemic. It's isolated from DC downtown but not too far that you can't walk or bike to this place from Shaw area. Nice 20 mins walk from our house to this beautiful bar with amazing outdoor patio. They maintain social distancing and provide hand sanitizer with sanitation wipes for every customer. There's some parking on the streets as well if you plan to drive. Let's get to the main part. Love their beer collection. I don't remember the names as I usually rely on the bar tender to recommend me her favorites. You can ask for taster as well. For food, I absolutely love the pulled pork sandwich with bbq sauce and their hot dog is delicious. It's located in a quiet place. You can go there early and continue to work from here as well. I might do that next time. One thing they were missing is the outdoor heater. Hope they mount a couple of heaters very soon. It's going to be pretty cold.

Yelp
Went with a few friends and enjoyed the urban atmosphere of the venue. Everyone at both bars were helpful and friendly. It's a cool spot to see some of history of DC.

Boobie D.

Yelp
a vibe always. from events to great cost on drinks && a simple good time! besides them changing the road to a one way so be prepared for not as good parking cause it sucks now. but not the dew drops fault!
google avatar

Yelp
Food truck service or you can bring your own food. Dive college bar. Indoor and outdoor seating available based on your preference. The restroom is gender neutral. Friendly waitress.
google avatar

Abbey O.

Yelp
Great spot. Drinks are relatively well priced. Large patio with plenty of picnic tables outside. The staff were very attentive and friendly with my dog. Very chill atmosphere I would definitely come back

Yelp
My coworkers and I come here after we volunteer at the Capital Area Food Bank every Tuesday. We got there around 7:30/8pm tonight and their kitchen wasn't running. They had a food truck outside with quesadillas, burrito bowls, burritos, fajita. The quesadilla and the burrito bowls were $13 (their prices aren't listed on the truck). I have to say their pulled pork sandwiches (Alabama white sauce is the move) are wayyyyy better than this food truck! For drinks, they always have a good selection. Tonight I got the peach mule but in the past I've gotten some sour beers or ciders. Again, there's no prices on their menu so I never know how much things cost. There was a group of 7 of us and each of us got a singular alcoholic beverage and the total with 20% tip equated to $70. So each drink was around $8.50. I will say tonight there were several beers they were out of. So I'd say if you come here, be prepared to have a backup. The reason we love coming here is the atmosphere. Everyone working there is very laid back. Drinks and food come on time. There's outdoor seating at your typical picnic benches. Like I said, there was 7 of us and we had no problem walking right up and sitting down at a picnic table. It's always like this. No reservations. No wait times. You show up and hang out. For anyone that does get bit easily, I think it's second nature for people that live in DC, but always remember the bug spray in the summer. You absolutely need it to sit outside if you get bit easily! Another HUGE reason we love coming here is because it's right off the MBT (metropolitan branch trail) so biking to and from is an absolute breeze. Also, my coworkers that drive to here never have an issue finding street parking. The metro stop is also walking distance. So it truly cannot be a better location in terms of being accessible by all modes of transportation!! With all that being said, this place is a hidden gem in DC. Always a great time :)

Laura P.

Yelp
A classic neighborhood dive. Fun for happy hour, outdoor hangs and probably wilder evenings that I won't be a part of. Right off the MTB, perfect for bikers.

Diana I.

Yelp
Fun spot to listen to Dj sessions outdoors on Sunday evenings. It has a bar and some food trucks as well
google avatar

Anne Z.

Yelp
Great, especially if you ride a moto! Can be a bit loud but they also have an outdoor area with picnic tables.
google avatar

Dee T.

Yelp
Great vibe. Good beers with a super chill staff. It should be voted as one of the best dive bars in DC
google avatar

Shawn T.

Yelp
Cute quaint bar in a good location. Tons of outdoor space during these covid times. A very fun night with friends outside. You must visit!
google avatar

Brendan W.

Yelp
An excellent, eclectic historical bar in a sort of quiet neighborhood, this place has no food and limited selection of beer, but what they have is top notch.

CBS X.

Yelp
Great bar. Lots of decorations. Kind of a dive. Eclectic crowd. Good music. Plenty of space. Not super convenient to get to but that's part of the charm. Fun to watch the metro go by from inside or out. Plenty of outdoor space on the patio and under the tents.
google avatar

Aurore A.

Yelp
The best thing about the Dew Drop Inn is that you feel transported to a much calmer and more remote location, but you're still in DC. The service is friendly and the drinks are strong, what more could you want? I can't say much for the food here (I ordered a hot dog and could not eat it)- BUT they allow you to bring outside food which is always a plus!
google avatar

Brendan F.

Yelp
Came on a Saturday evening, the outside area with pizza was pretty chill. The indside bar was gross and I was confused what the hell was going on.

Justin D.

Yelp
My favorite hidden gem bar in NE, and maybe even DC in general. Love the outdoor seating.
google avatar

Marisa S.

Yelp
Rejected my New Jersey drivers license for no apparent reason... Said that I should be carrying around my passport. Would be grateful if they learned what a real drivers license looks like prior to rejecting paying customers. You're in the bar/restaurant business. Get it together
google avatar

Lily H.

Yelp
Classic dive bar with a variety of event nights from trivia to live djs. Always spot on prices, friendly bartenders and lots of room to hang with friends.
google avatar

Tailor D.

Yelp
The perfect dive bar. Period. Went on a Friday night from 530 to 730 and it wasn't too crowded, so I hear it gets bumping around nine or 10. They have a DJ select nights, but even when they don't, the playlist they have going is absolutely stellar. Think Michelle branch, sublime, Shakira, and all those other artist you haven't thought about in sometime. Point is, it's good. Two of us left having had four beers and a pretzel with the tab of $30, including tip, so I would think it's reasonable. Happy hour is just two dollars off drafts, wine, and real drinks. The food menu is limited, but good. The pretzels are oversalted, or you can simply flick off the excess salt. And the cheese sauce that comes with it is stellar! I recommend the blueberry pancake beer if you like sweet things. Plus, it's 8% alcohol. Fantastic bartenders and overall quick service. The only downside, it's completely inaccessible! Getting to the bar itself is not possible for wheelchair users and many others with physical disabilities and the bar itself is located up a set of stairs. And the bathroom is rather small.
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Came in on trivia night and was kind of surprised at how many people were there. Me and my friend sat at the bar and the bartender was super friendly. I got Crown and Sprite to sip on and the pretzel. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have regular yellow. But it also came with cheese that was nice and warm with a great texture but the flavor was a bit muted. The container the cheese was in was pretty small so that was disappointing. Like I still had 1/2 my pretzel left and since it was trivia night and there was a mic being used, I would of had to yell about some cheese and it's not that serious. Over all decent dive part in a strange spot.

Yelp
Fantastic little hole in the wall neighborhood bar. I went on a Saturday night after midnight. Not packed but a good crowd. Running a bit towards the Catholic U crowd but some other ages as well. DJ was spinning tunes so a variety of music. Not sure what they have at other times, numerous other reviewers have noted the broken juke box. Not sure if this is still the case, will check it out next time. Cheap drinks! I had a Bold Rock draft cider that was $6.00. I then ordered a Green Hat and club soda. Not only do they have Green Hat gin (go local!!), but it was only $7.00. This is almost unheard of in DC. Building is located next to the Metro and railroad tracks so you can sit outside on the patio and watch trains go by along with your people watching. Glad this place gas opened up in my neighborhood. I'm inspired to try their original bar The Wonderland Ballroom sonce I liked this place. Give it a try!

Yelp
My friend and I were looking for a drink on a Wednesday evening -- we heard that there was a local bar nearby...boy am I glad we chose to give this place a shot. As we approached the Dew Drop we heard music booming from the rooftop -- the song filled the whole block. We knew then, that we had made the right choice to come here. Once we located the front door (it was more of a challenge than you might assume), we climbed the stairs to get to the rooftop. There were about a dozen bar goers scattered on the deck at various tables. The lights that were strung around the deck gave the space a nice brightness while adding to the ambiance. The interior is full of character -- furnished with wooden chairs, tables and a dart board in the corner. We took a seat at the bar and were greeted immediately. The drinks were solid and reasonably priced at $6.50. The bartenders were really great -- interacted with us from time to time and kept our glasses full. They really seemed like they enjoyed working there and interacting with all the guests. The kitchen was closed by the time we got a little hungry for food so I will have to try their food on my next trip, which I hope will be soon! Luckily, it was "Movie Night" and the bartenders were passing out huge bowls of popcorn for us all to enjoy. Can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Polly M.

Yelp
Love this place! Cocktails are great and well priced, the staff is hilarious, and it's a comfortable space. I love spending time here and come often.
google avatar

Dan W.

Yelp
Dew Drop Inn is one of the quirkiest and best bars in all DC. The weekend before St. Patrick's Day, they had a live bagpiper, green beer, and Lucky Charms for bar snacks. There's something quirky going on here essentially every other weekend. Dew Drop Inn may be a bit out of the way between Brentwood and Brookland, but it's well worth the trip. As a good friend of mine once said, "I can't recall the last time I was at Dew Drop Inn and *wasn't* offered free shots."
google avatar

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
All hail Dew Drop. The best dive bar in DC. Darts, sweaty drinks, beautiful patio, train tracks. Whiskey ice luges on New Year's Eve. And, inexplicably, hummus. Don't dare go anywhere else.
google avatar

Jude T.

Yelp
Perfectly decent bar. Went here for a show and had a good time. Got some pretzels, two drinks, and tipped for less than $20 which is great for DC. Their outdoor seating area upstairs was cool. The worst thing about this place could be the parking, which is about what you'd expect from DC anyway.
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
I love this place! I went with a few friends after a warm, sunny bike ride, and this was exactly what the doctor ordered. I don't know that I would want to hang out here in the winter, but the patio outside in the sun was phenomenal. They have a great beer selection, and a view of the train. We ordered some pretzels and the cheese plate, and despite the bar being very unassuming (and thus my making the incorrect assumption that we'd just get standard sub-par pub fare), what we got was fresh, delicious, and just seriously amazing. The crowd and vibe was a total mix of ages, races, and, well, just everything! There were a couple of (well-behaved, which is the only kind you should bring here as the patio is quite small and there isn't room for running) kids there, who might have enjoyed watching the trains go by as much as my boyfriend (who is a transportation planner and thus a train nerd) did! I saw someone pull up on a fixie, working the hipster vibe hard, someone else looked like he may have ridden in on an actual Harley, and just everything in-between. I sometimes feel like DC is too segregated, especially since I live/work in a small part of NW, and I really love being in parts of DC that don't conform to just one little box.

Daniel W.

Yelp
First of all, this place is a dump. They also rejected my real ID and when I asked for the manager they refused. They asked me for a second form of identification, so I showed them and still wouldn't take it. I am over 21 years old, they should hire servers who know the difference between a real and fake identification. I will never be going back to this place.
google avatar

Eleanor B.

Yelp
Some people cringe at the thought of dive bars, but I love them. Naturally, I'm now a fan of Dew Drop. I recently went with a bunch of friends for a midweek Happy Hour, and we all had a great time. We were there for a few hours and got to have a number of drinks and try some of the food. Of the drinks I tried, my favorite was the cider. The food was also good. A friend and I split the avocado tacos, and we both liked it. They don't have a very diverse drink list, but I still liked everything I tried. The bar itself is pretty small. The interior doesn't have many seats, so you may need to prepare to stand if you don't want to sit outside. The weather was great when we went, so we occupied one of the outdoor picnic tables. I wish there were more options for accessibility -- you'll have to walk up a flight of stairs to even get to the bar in the first place! I'm glad I got to try this place out. It's a bit far from me, but I'll definitely come back if I get a chance.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
I almost down rated this place to keep people away. Come on! This place is amazing! The atmosphere is laid back, great bartenders, diverse clientale, and free hot dogs! I am planning to be here every monday. Best neighborhood bar inn DC!

Jynnah R.

Yelp
This is a dive bar is in an unsuspecting location. When I was walking to the bar with a friend I really thought that my friend had gotten the directions completely wrong and we were lost because we were away from all the activity around the metro station. We were passing a lot of houses and it looked really residential but when we got closer There is this one lonely red brick structure that I would never have thought was a bar not for outdoor seating area. So I'm already doubting this place because it's in the middle of nowhere and then when we open the door there were pictures and graffiti everywhere. I was very close to turning around and leaving because I had no idea what I was getting myself into but we climbed the wooden staircase and it opened up to the actual bar and it was quite lovely. This is not fancy, It's a place that you come to drink and play darts and talk with friends. Basically the local watering hole. Their happy hour was everything was two dollars off until 730 or 745. So I got a frozen margarita which was really delicious and they are very heavy-handed with the poor which is great I could only do two before I was definitely feeling the buzz. We also got nachos, those were pretty basic not that great but this is not the type of place that you come for food you're coming to drink so I'm not going to give them a one star off for that. This place even allows dogs! Which was fabulous. And their outdoor seating is actually quite nice but it was really full when we got there so we didn't get to sit you outside
google avatar

Nalini M.

Yelp
Always a fan! It's close by and perfect when one just wants to go hang out someplace casual and have a drink ... and catch up with friends or just sit out on the deck and relax. Cool vibe great bartenders and simple drinks and fare at the bar! The ambiance is cool too! Def a fan! If they got more food though would prob just be near perfection but it's pretty good as is too!
google avatar

Angela K.

Yelp
The nicest bartenders you could ever hope for. Great spot to listen to some jams, watch football and eat cheap bar foods. 100 percent recommend.

Yelp
Dew Drop is the ace of all dive bars -- at least in D.C. Come here when you're looking to enjoy a casual couple drinks and good conversation with a handful of friends -- especially when you want to escape the bustle of the city. Gazing at the railroad tracks out back, you can trick yourself momentarily into thinking you could be anywhere. You can choose from a solid array of beers on tap and in-the-bottle (including the rarely seen La Fin du Monde), or nurse a Natty Bo for times when the wallet gets thin. Spacious interior. Fantastic balcony. Nice staff. And a cool grunge-artistique interior. What more does one need?
