"The Diner supports the mission of Meals on Wheels People by providing a space for older adults to eat their meals in a casual, multi-generational setting. Tips go directly to the nonprofit. The bright 1960s decor, cushy booths, and diner classics — buttermilk pancakes, country-fried steak — make this spot a Vancouver family favorite. Building a tyke-sized breakfast off the menu of sides (a scrambled egg and potatoes, a pancake with a side of fruit) is easy here, and for lunch, grilled cheese sandwiches and soup-and-sandwich combinations tend to be hits. Kids love to peek in the glass case, filled with pies and baked goods." - Rachel Pinsky

"This straightforwardly named Vancouver diner feeds food-insecure seniors, as a project from Meals on Wheels People, but diners of all ages can pop in for biscuits and gravy, country fried steak, and meatloaf sandwiches. No visit is complete without a slice of pie from the case, with options like banana cream and peanut butter." - Eater Staff

"The Diner Vancouver, Meals on Wheels People’s restaurant across the Columbia, is open for takeout, with its proceeds going to the organization. Meals on Wheels People has seen a 450 percent spike in requests since early March; in response, The Diner has focused less on its status as an official Meals on Wheels location and more as a way to fund the influx of food insecure seniors." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

"The Diner, a contemporary American restaurant off Mill Plain Boulevard in Vancouver, serves fried-egg-topped burgers and Ruby Jewel ice cream milkshakes. It operates as both a restaurant and an official Meals on Wheels location for residents in Multnomah, Washington, and Clark counties. It offers a menu with a variety of breakfast and lunch options, including eggs Benedict, burgers, and challah French toast, with most dishes priced under $10. The restaurant aims to provide a socializing space for seniors while funding meals for food-insecure seniors over 60. It features a retro vibe with green booths and circular light fixtures." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

I learned that the tips at this diner are donated to meals on wheels. All the food was good. I had a Caesar salad which was great, the rest of the crew had breakfasts. Very great presentation and taste. It was a bit noisy, lots of people, many conversations.

Visited on Mother's Day in the morning. It was busy, but the wait wasn't too bad. Service was wonderful. They had carrot cake waffles with salted caramel cream cheese filling on special, and they were delicious! The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is a guest in my party got corned beef hash. I tried a bite of the corned beef and it was pretty dry. For a staple item, I'd expect it to be on point.

Visited with a bunch of friends to try something new from our usual brunch spot. This was the first and last time we will be eating here. The first couple of dishes came out, and those who had them enjoyed them, however it took another 10 minutes for everyone else at the table to get their food, leaving us waiting while others ate so their food wouldn't get cold. Once the second round of dishes arrived, we were met with nothing but disappointment. Not only was my steak completely over cooked and dry, it was only about the size of my wallet compared to the amount of breading on the outside. Felt like a very unfair amount of steak for the $17 I paid, especially when compared to multiple other locations in the same area. One of my friends got the omelette, which was extremely bland and also had a LARGE piece of plastic inside of it. When this was brought up with the manager, they did not seem to care much and only offered to comp half of the meal when it had barely been touched. That friend left still feeling hungry. Our waitress was very nice, but unfortunately that does not make up for the poor state of the food coming out of the kitchen, horrid lack of consistency, and the seeming disregard of customer sentiment from management. We will not be returning.

Good basic cooking! For a good price. All proceeds and tips go to support Meals on Wheels. Great food every time I have been there!

Google
Such a fun place and the specials looked amazing!! Had to go with the classic - Eggs Benny. Loved the atmosphere!! Lots of special touches like chilled glasses for the OJ, a little container of cream with the cold brew and we were even sent away with butter and syrup for our leftover French Toast! Samantha was amazing!! So sweet, loves her job and attentive!!! Can't wait go back!!!

Google
This is a wonderful spot designed by the local Meals on Wheels to help serve the senior community. Weekly specials, freshly baked pies, breakfast served all day, mimosas! We love it. All donations/tips go to support the Meals on Wheels program. Gets busy at weekday lunches and weekends so plan accordingly!

Google
This was my second visit to this Wonderful establishment! First, I Love that all proceeds go to "Meals On Wheels" for people & elderly in need!! We had our middle grandkiddo with us today. My wife ordered the chicken salad sandwich & Loved it! I decided to try their Traditional Eggs Benedict. WOW! My dish was Amazing and I Loved the entire dish full of wonderful flavor(s)!!! It is hard to find some Good Hollandaise sauce, this one was Excellent! We ordered the kids pancake for our grandchild and Holy Cow, it is definitely the Adult size portion!!! Fresh fruit with this one, as we ordered the blueberry pancake and the wait staff is Excellent. Before we even asked for anything, our server brought a bowl of fresh fruit for our grandchild and immediately there was no upset kid! Lol Very impressive experience and we Definitely will be back again!

Google
The food is generally good. Excellent customer service. I love the drip coffee here (I always forget to ask the brand). There are specials which I appreciate, saves me from the monotonous menu. It’s is a diner - expect diner food but a little better. Also, tips are actually donations to some programs the restaurant helps/support. I recommend visiting if you like breakfast (& who doesn’t like breakfast?!)

Carlene P.

Yelp
Super sweet server, very clean restaurant (including restroom) and ample servings of delicious foods! I had the traditional eggs Benedict which were expertly prepared with a very nice hollandaise sauce and came with a mountain of tender and flavorful breakfast potatoes. My dining companion had biscuits and gravy, which were okay but I've had better. They offer country gravy or bacon gravy; we sampled the country but perhaps the bacon is the way to go. Next time. Really positive experience overall.

Aimee L.

Yelp
I'm going to start off with a three hoping this visit was a fluke. $13 only gets you bread, eggs and potatoes. Closer to $20 if you crave meat. If you upgrade that bread choice to French toast they only give you one piece and there's an up charge. We were seated very efficiently by a host and served by two people. The lady that took our order and brought the food looked like she'd rather be anywhere but there. I get it but it's not the vibe you want on first impression. We had to ask someone else for a refill and the lady who did that was awesome. She got us the bill, helped me find my credit card that I'd dropped and even offered one last soda to take with us. Your experience may vary based on which server you get. It's pricey eating out anywhere so this place isn't an exception by any stretch of the imagination. We may or may not return since a little more flexibility on breakfast options is important to us.

Jen L.

Yelp
Breakfast/brunch at The Diner is usually our go to joint! We have been several times now and they never disappoint. We love their wonderful eggs benedict, omlettes, fluffy scrambles, potatoes, biscuits & gravy, blueberry pancakes, and cold refreshing orange juice! Not to mention their homemade peanut butter crème pie! These guys are super warm & friendly, serve breakfast very quickly and they keep a super clean restaurant! They now have an outdoor eating space which is great too as peak breakfast hours can be a little loud and chatty. They also do meals & wheels so there's even a better feeling with giving them our business.

Keith A.

Yelp
Great family feeling and clean. The decor is spot on too. The service is exceptional and the food was good, well worth the cost. Portions were generous and the atmosphere was fun. A family favorite when entertaining big appetites.

Ange V.

Yelp
We found this gem on a rainy Sunday morning road trip from Portland to Seattle. Solid all-day breakfast staples. Great quality, generous servings, delicious pancakes, bottomless coffee. Attentive service with a smile. The added bonus is that by eating at The Diner you are also supporting a social enterprise.

Jenny G.

Yelp
Love this place. The avocado toast is the best! We also had the basic eggs, hash browns and toast, also good.

Debbie B.

Yelp
We decided to check this place out because we were looking for diner food. Upon entering the place I was happy to see how clean it was. Very nicely decorated and very clean. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. You don't really get just one waiter (whoever is available is who checked in on us). My group got pancakes (pretty good), the breakfast sandwich (not a fan of the bacon jam), the breakfast burger (good), Mac and cheese (heavy on the garlic or something), and a piece of pie (good). I loved the look and feel of the place and the prices run you about $10-$15 per person. They don't encourage tipping but do accept donations for Meals on Wheels on the check. I think what they are doing is great but I hope the staff gets paid better than minimum wage.

Donny C.

Yelp
Everything was good except they only lunch after 11am. We love the chicken pesto here. Their breakfast was decent but I would go elsewhere for that. Gravy has zero sausage in it and the bacon gravy sounded good but was too sweet. I would strongly recommend this place for lunch but I can't recommend it for breakfast, they need to revamp the menu.

Terrance S.

Yelp
Great new find with some solid choices. Really like the layout of the place and this is a new hidden gem in the Couv. Great layout, great ambiance, and great vibe. Solid choices, good staff, and centrally located. Don't miss out.

Hank G.

Yelp
Got up on Sat needing something not in my fridge. ANYTHING. Time to check out The Diner Vancouver. Booths were full, always a good sign, so ambled up and took a seat at the bar. The restaurant is well light and lots of space. You don't feel crowded. Brandy was my server and she was fantastic. She took my order quickly and the kitchen staff had my meal to me in less than 15mins. I love my biscuit and gravy, you'll see that in a lot of my reviews, so that's what I ordered, with eggs and a side of sausage. The Diner has 2 types of gravy Country and Bacon. I choose the Bacon. Brandy did mention it was sweeter. She was right, not that it was too sweet. It is piled with bacon, I wish there was some crispy bacon thrown on. The biscuits were some of the best I have had in a while. The maple sausage was very good too. I'll be back to try more of the menu.

Trisha L.

Yelp
I really wanted to love The Diner. There are so many things to love about it. Cute diner interior, friendly staff and their support of Meals on Wheels. I felt like the food was all pretty bland though. Chicken Fried Steak was hand breaded and pretty good, but lacked flavor. Potatoes were bland and undercooked. Biscuit was the highlight of the meal. Loved the biscuit!

Celine L.

Yelp
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! This is my first time coming here A hidden gem, for sure!! Food, Service, Ambience...they definitely have it all!!! Give it a try. You will not be disappointed. A worthy organization and establishment!

John E.

Yelp
I want to love The Diner, I love the premise of supporting Meals on Wheels. I met a friend for breakfast and was excited about trying The Diner out. The menu is not real expansive, but they have the basics and a little more. The service was excellent, and the place is very comfortable. I don't drink coffee so I can't really tell you about that. The food arrived in a timely manner, and it looked quite good. I ordered The Main, two eggs, breakfast potatoes and choice of bread, I chose the pancake. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and the pancake was quite tasty. My complaint, and the reason they lost stars, was the potatoes were cold in the middle and could have used some more seasoning. I'll try them out again, hoping they just had a bad day on the griddle.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
I was surprised how busy this place was, but then again, it was lunch time. I was told I'd have a 10min wait but I only waited a few min (less than 5) for a table for 2. Although it's not on the menu, they do serve mimosas here which was a nice addition to brunch with a friend. I valued that I could order breakfast all day. Nothing fancy about this diner. Typical booth, table and counter seating. Service was a bit slow and our silverware sets had significant residue. Food was ok. Nothing special. Typical dinner food. The eggs Benedict looked really good, but I'd already ordered the traditional dinner breakfast (eggs, potatoes, sausage). What I found odd was they don't leave a spot at the end for a tip, rather you can make a donation to provide a meal on wheels to elderly.

Mehdi A.

Yelp
We stopped here on a Sunday morning for breakfast and found it to be a great place with friendly staff, simple menu and quality food. The coffee was served piping hot and it was delicious! For entrees we tried the Corned Beef Hash and the Diner Breakfast Platter. Each was served with Yukon Gold Potato slices cooked to perfection. The food portions are large and of high quality. We'll definitely have to come back to try the house made pies they have. One additional star for the staff not relying on "tips" for their wages... instead of "tips", you leave donations which are used to help support Meals on Wheels, a great cause.

Dominic B.

Yelp
A+ chicken fried steak. The kids and in-laws loved it too! Got seated quickly and the staff did a terrific job. No complaints.

Jeff L.

Yelp
After several recommendations and favorable online reviews, my wife and I decided to give The Diner a try for breakfast. I ordered the chicken fried steak and my wife had the Avocado Toast with scrambled eggs. We were immediately greeted as we entered and seated. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, and our orders arrived after a brief wait. The chicken fried steak was a little rubbery, and I appreciated that they gave me a huge steak knife to cut the cutlet. Pan fries were very good as were the biscuits. My wife said the avocados on toast did not agree with her stomach. Scrambled eggs were scrambled eggs. We had high hopes, but found it to be so, so.

Xia P.

Yelp
I absolutely love everything about this place. Food is amazing, high quality and tastes good. Servers are nice, earn a decent salary and genuinely seem happy. The business donates money to meals on wheels and support people regardless of their race, color or gender. This is one of the most positive and ethical places I've ever been in, in Vancouver Washington and I look forward to free time in my weekends in hopes that I can come eat here. This isn't some fake woke pc bs, this is real people making real food with a purpose and I will support it every chance I get.

Mac M.

Yelp
I love that eating here means funds go to the Meals on Wheels program!! And I chose the right day to come- Steak Chilaquiles for breakfast!! And the waitress was amazing... always coming by with fresh coffee!

Gina P.

Yelp
We fully enjoyed our first meal at The Diner Vancouver. Great food, friendly service and the atmosphere was fantastic; the music was my highlight since I love Motown music! I highly recommend this place. We will definitely be back!

Angela M.

Yelp
I've been here a few times with a good friend of mine. We keep returning because it's bright, clean and the entire staff is friendly and happy. The food is definitely fresh and served hot. They have just enough options to choose from so that you aren't overwhelmed with choices before your morning coffee. And the pastries! OMIGOSH!

Martin W.

Yelp
Imagine A fresh bride new designed diner, add a little style to the furniture and bring it into 2022. Combined it with old-style music and friendly service. That's what you get at "the diner Vancouver". Is there anything more that you can ask for? Oh yes good food you will say, and Hands down you will get it here, no question ask! When you walk in you will be greeted not only by A friendly waiter but also by a freshly designed diner-style ambiance. After we have been seated we got the menu and you have to take your time cause they combine old-style dinner classics with almost new age menu options. It was really hard for us to decide which items we wanna try first (cause spoiler alert: we will be back) So we ended up with the avocado toast with a sunny side up eggs and the classic veggie burger which isn't classic because it is made out of the plant-based beyond meat burger. We also had their strawberry Mimosa and a slice of peanut butter pie. I tell you all was so delicious the veggie burger contained also avocado spread fresh onions and a little delicious sauce on top of it to bring it all together. The avocado toast was just that avocado spices and toast you don't need much more if it's made fresh! The pie was delicious not too sweet just the right amount the only thing I was missing was a little bit of real whipped cream. That is all combined with a very reasonable price and so we left as a happy customer who will come back to this place for sure, even when it is a bit of a drive for us from Portland. So no stars goes away they deserve all 5

Austin M.

Yelp
Friendly and responsive service, Food arrived faster than most diners and cooked to perfection of request Great family environment Did I mention the fry's are amazing?

Keith M.

Yelp
Quality and service has gone way downhill. The food we ordered Sunday wasn't good and made us sick. I ordered a breakfast burrito and it just tasted burnt, and nothing else. This used to be a solid four stars. Too bad, because I really like that their proceeds go to Meals on Wheels.

Tabitha B.

Yelp
The service was good, but the restaurant was very busy when we went. It seems like a very family friendly restaurant. The food was good, nothing special. Their mission is what drew us in and maybe what keeps us coming back.

Ben P.

Yelp
Awesome diner that has a classic yet modern feel. Great good that seemed fresh and quality. Good affordable prices too! They also serve Relevant Coffee which is a bonus!

Nicholas S.

Yelp
If you want a classic American breakfast this is the place to go. They do it simply but they do it really well. Very cozy, great service, and your tip being a donation towards a local cause leaves you feeling good about eating there.

Greg K.

Yelp
I had the Diner Special and the bacon sausage and potatoes were seriously among the best I've ever had! Add fresh coffee and fresh OJ. This is a local gem not to miss!!

Debs G.

Yelp
We just had breakfast here. A lovely surprise!! House made chorizo and egg burrito, brioche French toast. Excellent! What's great about the burrito is the chorizo is not mixed in with the eggs. Perfect for people who don't eggs. They accept tips but you can leave a donation to meals on wheels instead. Great waitstaff.

Margaret H.

Yelp
Homemade, fresh, quality . Our go to, safe place. no margarine nor bad oils. Clean dinning

Jessica C.

Yelp
I really enjoyed having breakfast at the Diner! The food was very fresh and the restaurant was very clean. My family and I will diffenitly be back.

Jen C.

Yelp
Our family really enjoyed our first trip to The Diner Vancouver, and we hope to become regulars. The great reviews of the food drew us in, and we were not disappointed. Super delicious baked goods and gravies (try the bacon one!). They have a kids menu, crayons, and a little activity sheet that was appreciated. The service was quick and friendly. We learned that they are a non-profit, pay fair wages, and provide full benefits. No tipping is allowed, but you're able to donate to the meals on wheels program they support. I had a savory breakfast, biscuits with bacon gravy, and eggs. I've never had bacon gravy, and am glad I tried something new. A little sweet, a little salty! My kiddo loved the huge serving of french toast with sugar and syrup. I took my mama tax, and man, was it delicious! I noticed a bunch of bakery items that we were too full to try, but that's my goal for our next visit.

Victoria C.

Yelp
I've been to older styled diners but I had yet to come to one inspired by the 60s? This place reminds me of the cartoons, The Jetsons! I love this place, it's really cool inside. I ordered the Traditional breakfast and the potatoes were so yummy! Great first time experience.

John W.

Yelp
Very nice Diner...won't be disappointed, and it supports Meals on Wheels, to boot! Employees super cordial and responsive. Food is fresh and the menu has some surprises in it...give it a try!

Karen M.

Yelp
Great food, reasonable prices, friendly helpful staff. Love their business model that supports Meals on Wheels!

Robin Suzanne M.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, good food and love that they help support the community with Meals on Wheels.

Tony S.

Yelp
The food is standard American cuisine, I only buy breakfast from them and it's always good. The employees are nice. The decor is plain but that's to be expected for this type of establishment. My favorite this is the strawberry lemonade, shit goes hard fr

K G.

Yelp
This is a great place to eat. Good size portions at a decent price and excellent customer service. They also benefit Meals On Wheels and all tips are donations for the benefit.

Diana W.

Yelp
This is a lovely, metro style diner. The service was excellent and everyone was friendly. Our food was pretty good, but nothing wowed me. Still in search of the perfect breakfast spot in Vancouver.

Siara C.

Yelp
the best eggs Benedict, the best service and the cutest little place. If you're in vancouver and you haven't been here RUN they're awesome!!!

Laurel H.

Yelp
I love this restaurant for so many reasons! 1. They pay their employees a living wage and benefits and the prices are low /standard. So there, people who say keeping people in poverty is the only way to have affordable restaurants. 2. People can leave 'tips' that go to their program for meals for seniors. 3. The food is great! Today their special was a German pancake with housemade caramel. OMG! And then the waitress suggested squeezing on lemon. I would never have thought of it. It's wonderful. 4. The people are so friendly, helpful, and welcoming. 10 out of 10. I come here and bring all my friends.

Stephanie J.

Yelp
One of my favorite pregnancy cravings food is delicious and warm food. My favorite is the breakfast plate with fluffy pancakes eggs and thick bacon. They have fresh squeezed orange juice too. I love that they partner with meals on wheels. Service is extremely friendly and quick

Jessica C.

Yelp
Last minute decision, but it was a great decision! Originally I was going to eat somewhere else, but ended up seeing great reviews and decided to stop by. I need to mention that the service was great! The diner is EXTREMELY cute. It has a vintage look but with a modern spin. The Egg Benedict was great. It was served on ham with hollandaise sauce. It had this unique taste of sweetness but a soft sour after taste. It also had thin slices of potatoes on the side. French Toast - you could never go wrong with French Toast. The bread was fluffy and delicious!

Li Y.

Yelp
It was great visiting The Diner on my most recent trip to Vancouver, WA. After reading about it on YELP I couldn't wait to try this place. So I grabbed my godson and off we went on an adventure. The breakfast we had was hearty and reasonable. While the avocado toast was a favorite, we certainly enjoyed our omelettes and sides. Enjoyed them so much we decided to take a chocolate cream pie out for the rest of the house. Besides looking irresistible, I am told was delicious! Love that this business supports the community through its Meals on Wheels Dine Out program for the senior citizens in this community. As long as the senior is registered with the Wheels on Meals program, they are invited to eat from the special seniors menu at no cost as much as once a day. They are only asked to consider making a donation if they can to help cover the "cost" of the food Conveniently located off of exit one in Vancouver, Washington. After coming off the freeway one drives through a picturesque, green area, by parks and lots of open spaces. Located in a little shopping area, parking is easy. Looking forward to dining here again !

Shannon G.

Yelp
I'm so happy to find this spot in Vancouver! The food was fresh and healthy, and our waitress was super sweet. I was pleasantly surprised by the comfort of all their seats and had a good overall vibe. Also they support feeding elderly people in the community!

Amy L.

Yelp
This is such a nice, cozy place for breakfast or lunch. The waitresses are extra special and the homemade soups, desserts and selection of specialized entrees is worth the trip. Prices are reasonable and every meal comes with fries, soup or salad. I didn't know many people in Vancouver so I went there often to dine. This place is a favorite spot for seniors, even those who are single. They serve gluten-free bread so I always went for the tuna melt, chicken salad or a host of other favorites that are so delicious. Fresh brewed ice tea is always a staple.

Noal R.

Yelp
Went to the diner and the food was great in looks and flavor. The portions were small especially for the prices. Hope the win.

Connie O.

Yelp
Love what they got going here, highly recommend. I stumbled on this cute diner while in the area. Had a classic diner experience, enjoyed their all day breakfast and a slice of pie. The place is really cute. What really struck me was how cheerful the staff was. They seemed genuinely happy and relaxed, it made it a nice environment to be at. Prices were very reasonable. It was only when I saw the word "donation" on my bill that I realized their staff doesn't rely on tips for their wages. Donations go to their efforts towards Meals on Wheels. What a great cause. More restaurants should follow their lead. Stopping by here gave me lots of hope. Definitely support this business.

Pam H.

Yelp
Had lunch at The Diner Vancouver for the first time and I love it. Great menu selection. I will keep going there. Very clean place. The employees were all pleasant. It does get very busy. They don't take tips, you can donate to Meals on Wheels.
