The Dining Room

The Dining Room is located in the Hilton hotel at Short Hills and is where we went the next morning to have breakfast. The buffet was fantastic, one of the best breakfast buffets that we have all ever had. The spread was fantastic!

Breakfast was rough. Oil soaked potatoes, chemically tasting ham, and >$35 for a standard breakfast. I would avoid and head over to the mall or do a grab and go for breakfast. Service was great and very friendly wait staff.

This is a solid dinner choice for a hotel restaurant atmosphere and food. It's a popular choice for local business people after work with good cocktails and highly social seating arrangement. The menu has a wide variety of healthy options and, of course, has the usual favorites with an upscale twist and preparation. You can do small bites and full entrees. The steak sandwich with wagyu beef and gruyere on ciabatta was excellent and the mushroom gravy made it outstanding. Shoestring fries were perfectly prepared and seasoned. The price is a little high as everything is a la carte, but it's definitely in the range of normal.

A last minute change in plans brought us to the Short Hills Hilton for New Years eve. We didn't necessarily want to have our celebration dinner at the hotel restaurant, but all the other restaurants had no reservations available. Generally, the last thing anyone wants to do is to dine at a hotel restaurant. However, I was optimistic that THE DINING ROOM would change my perspective completely. I was wrong. As you would expect, the choices on the menu are limited and overpriced for what you get. The portions are small -- particularly the appetizers which are very scant in quantity. We had several appetizers that we shared: Pork Belly, Melted Cheese Bread, Shrimp and Scallops. It hardly fed our group of five, and the price for the appetizers was rather expensive. The entrees were fairly good. Most of us had the cowboy steak which was cooked the way we wanted, with butter on top. The steak cost $45 which is a bit expensive, but then again, look where we were. Someone in our group had the Mac and Cheese and thought that was quite good as well. I think the worst part of our experience was the lack of attention by the waiting staff. First of all, being New Years Eve, very few staff people at that hotel looked as if they wanted to be there. Saying hello and wishing them a Happy New Year brought a mumbled reply. What was really frustrating for us was the service in THE DINING ROOM. At first, when we arrived at 7:30pm, the place was empty. However, an hour or so later, only a few tables were occupied (most people were smart and ate elsewhere) and yet the staff couldn't handle what they had on hand. We were handed a dessert menu and it took 30 minutes for the waiter to even return to our table to take our order. Not many people in the place, and he was walking around completely ignoring our group who were sitting at the table staring into space. So you know what? We decided not to get dessert after all. Yet, we had to sit an additional 5 minutes until I could flag our waiter down and get our check. So, as others have pointed out, this place is just average in food quality. High in price and poor in service. Really, make plans elsewhere and if you get stuck eating here, I hope you can make the best of it and get better service than we were provided with.

The Food was very good I took my Girlfriend on vallentines day and she also enjoyed the food if you want amazing food come here.

Food was actually good. Ordered the salmon which was flavorful. Service however, was sloooooooow.

Had dinner here and breakfast the next morning while on a weekend getaway! We were the only ones in the restaurant for an early dinner. Vanessa provided service with a smile and my water glass was always full with Vladimir on duty! Service was excellent! The food was top notch as well! Great presentation, quality ingredients, and excellent flavor! One of the best meals I've had in a while! At breakfast, Ana provided attentive service and Gary made killer omelettes! Actually the best omelette I've had from a buffet in a long time! Decent quality food, but the buffet itself was underwhelming! Lots of carbs and limited protein choices. For $30+ per person I felt it left to be desired. Overall, a good experience for both meals! Will definitely dine again when staying at the hotel!

Well the food wasn't bad that came out correct. I had a design your own burger and onion rings and we also had a pizza. Onion rings were so burnt and obviously should have never made it to the table. The manager removes the cost. The staff are busy but attentive but we sat close to the service door and don't see how they had time to wash their hands from handling everything including scratching themselves and back to serving, was really to quick to even get a 30 second wash in much less time to dry. We were here for an hour, nice and friendly though.

Sunday Buffet Brunch was amazing. Wait staff very professional and attentive. Will definitely come back.

The food here is always very good. All three meals can be eaten here with good quality. The problem is you will be paying vacation hotel type prices for meals. 2 for breakfast buffet $60.00 So be prepared!

The Hilton in Short Hills is one of my favorite places to escape to from NYC. My husband and I came for Easter weekend and the Dining Room restaurant did not disappoint for dinner or lunch. We enjoyed fish and chips that were perfectly cooked and the power bowl with shrimp that had a delicious mid eastern flavor profile. The pool here and spa have excellent staff and after a dip in the jacuzzi and bake in the sauna we enjoyed lunch by a sunlit window. Lemon and chicken Faro soup and crab toasts followed by Steak sandwich Au jus was divine. Truly melt in your mouth scrumptious perfection!

Incredibly disappointed in what was once an institution in the area. I booked reservations and confirmed those reservations with The Dining Room for Mother's Day. I picked up my handicapped mother in the rain to celebrate, only to be told the restaurant was closing at the time we had reservations!! What was even more disgraceful was that the manager greeted us and brought us to the bar where he explained that he had no idea why the system would have made reservations if they were closing. He acted as though this was a very unique situation...until we met three other families who had the EXACT same issue...and we heard him give them the exact same lip service. We ended up leaving because we know the area and had a meal elsewhere, but I felt so bad for some of the other families that had traveled from out of state to celebrate Mother's Day. I was disappointed that they wouldn't accommodate anyone - offer them any sort of compensation for inconvenience - or even apologize!! It was shameful and embarrassing when I tried to do something nice for my mother. The manager should be ashamed of himself. This is not the standard that I grew up being exposed to at the Short Hills Hilton and I will NEVER go back.

The food was excellent and great service was provided. The waitress Rebekah made recommendations and her choices were really good. The Brussel sprout pasta with pork belly was outstanding! I should have taken a picture. The desserts were yummy. Rebekah's service with the amazing meals would make me return whenever I am back in the area.

I followed all of the ingredients that Chef Richard used to make the strawberry biscuits with the exception of using the vanilla bean with sugar because of allergies to caffeine in the vanilla bean. Instead I used strawberries and blueberries with honey on top. Very delicious breakfast for Mother's Day!

I wish there were negative stars. This place has the worst service we have received ever. We were a party of 18 people. Not only did we not get water, but half of our appetizers came out after 1 and a half hours of us waiting patiently and asking them what was the status. They gave us bread after an hour of us waiting...and it was stale. Our main courses (which half of them came before the appetizers) were cold or tasted like rubber. Of and the icing on the cake was the attitude that the manager gave us when we complained about not getting water or any of our food. This is an absolute outrage. I would rather starve than ever come to eat here again.
