The Diplomat Hong Kong

The Diplomat is a small-ish bar which is has a popular following. It was crowded that evening with barely elbow room at the bar but the host, Clinton, managed to secure a space (Thank you!) We had a quick final drink here and can thoroughly recommend the Suze gimlet! Worth a visit!

Overall a good experience, I was more impressed with the drinks than the food. Don’t take me wrong, burgers were good, but not sure I would consider it the best in HK. Definitely fresh, definitely well cooked - but really the best? The quality of the meat was prime, but perhaps nothing special? Drinks however were classic but yet with a twist. Atmosphere was interesting, ideal if you want a buzzing place, not so good if you want a chill evening. Definitely to go back for an easy snack with friends that want to taste buzzing HK vibe.

Hidden gem, tucked in the back of an alley — and absolutely worth finding. The cocktails are exceptional. Standouts: Daiquiri Vol. 3 (the shiso and winter melon combination is brilliant) and the Coconut Saz — a smart, slightly sweet twist on a classic spirit-forward build. They also make a proper Corpse Reviver No. 2 and didn’t blink when I asked for a shaken Bitter Giuseppe. The famous burger lives up to the hype: perfect portion, beautifully seared patty. Service is what really sets this place apart — respectful, attentive, perceptive. They made sure I stayed hydrated and even recommended other local bars. It feels like they value real relationships over influencer theatrics.

Another of my favorite cocktail bars in Central Hong Kong. Front bar is open for all and has only a few tables and a small bar. The secret back room is for members and their guests. One of the best Irish Coffees I’ve had. They also serve some great casual bar food like chicken nuggets and a great burger.

While the space itself is compact, it carries a strong personality and an energy that feels effortlessly refined. The atmosphere is intimate yet lively, and the overall vibe is hard to replicate. A standout spot for those who appreciate quality drinks, good food, and a well-run bar with character.

Came for the burger cos it’s been highly rated by many. Woweeeee it did not disappoint. Definitely pricy & somewhat small for the price but it was top quality & cooked perfectly. Melted in my mouth. Loved the minor details of separating the tomato & gherkin from the burger. Amazing service too!!!

We were recommended The Diplomat for a good pint of Guinness as we were waiting for our table at Bar Leone and we were not disappointed. Coming from the UK we were craving our weekly pint and even in the UK a good pint of Guinness is hard to come by. It was absolutely fantastic at The Diplomat. We also shared the most delicious fries and largest bowl of olives I’ve ever had. The waitress was also so attentive and we have been recommending all our friends to go! We ended up enjoying it more than Bar Leone.

The Diplomat is a fantastic spot with a great vibe and excellent service. The menu may be small, but everything is delicious—especially the burgers, which are easily the best in town. The cocktails are top-notch too, with a good mix of classics and creative options. Definitely worth a visit!
