Where to Drink a Guinness in the Indianapolis Area This Winter | Eater

"Located in the Wholesale District, steps away from Gainsbridge Fieldhouse and Indy’s Convention Center, this sports bar serves Guinness pints with signature dishes by chef Juan Carlos Basurto. He’s created fun takes on classic Midwest food such as the Daddy Mac 2.0 (mac and cheese with smoked pork belly and bacon), the Bottle Cap (a burger with fried jalapenos, Cajun seasoning, pepper jack, and chipotle mayo) or salmon fish and chips. It’s the perfect pub to grab food before or after a hoops game, or even during the week with friends." - Brian Garrido

Google
I really wanted to like The District Tap because of its prime location in downtown Indianapolis and the overall lively atmosphere, but unfortunately, the food just didn’t deliver. I came in expecting a decent meal and left disappointed—especially after spending nearly $17 on something that barely passed as average bar food. I ordered the chicken tenders and French fries, and the entire plate was extremely underwhelming. Out of the four tenders, only two tasted fresh—crispy, hot, and cooked just right. The other two were clearly not made at the same time. They were dried out, rubbery, and tasted like they had been sitting in a warmer for a long while. The inconsistency in quality was obvious and disappointing. The fries were just as uninspiring. Basic frozen fries you'd find in any grocery store—no seasoning, no crisp, no effort. They were bland and soggy by the time they reached the table. Absolutely nothing special, and definitely not worth the nearly $17 price tag. Service was fine, and the vibe of the place is cool, especially if you’re just there for drinks or to catch a game. The bar area had a decent crowd and good energy, so I can see why people hang out here. But if you’re looking for quality food, this is not the spot. There are plenty of better dining options downtown. I might come back for a drink—but I definitely won’t be ordering food again.

Google
Stopped in this place and was happy we did. The food was hot, cooked to perfection along with an attentive server. All restaurants in the downtown area if Indy were full due to the Black Expo and WNBA All-Star events going on. I would definitely return to this establishment.

Google
Great sports bar! We wanted to find a place to watch Thursday night football and grab some drinks. Good bar food and large drink selection. Best part is that prices are affordable and it was a great atmosphere!

Google
Didn’t order any food but they serve flights so I indulged, while watching some games on TV. They have an excellent selection of various beers. They were all great. Service was great, the barkeep even let me sample a couple other beers he thought I’d like. He was right! The bar wasn’t overcrowded but it was bustling. Glad I dropped in.

Google
This was our 3rd visit to The District Tap. And was a special evening, as it was Game 6 of the NBA finals and The Pacers were playing that team from OkC. What a fantastic atmosphere to be in. What was special was as busy and crowded and crazy as it was. Our food was very good, served timely our waiteress was attentive to us the entire evening. We were there. Our app we tried the Texas guacamole... WoW! Could make it a meal. 2 or 3 kinds of steak finely chopped in the well seasoned Guac. That alone is worth the trip dowtown. They could get a little better tortilla chip but that didn't take away at all. Thats just me. My burger was great cooked perfectly as to be juicy but not pink, well seasoned too...

Google
Good spot for a beer and food before a Pacers game (if you can find a seat, or willing to stand). The beer selection is pretty good for this type of place, including many local crafts. The pork nachos were surprisingly good, and the steak burrito bowl was also pretty tasty.

Google
Struggling to find anything open, downtown so we came across The District Tap. It took ages to get the attention of the hostess, even though there were very few people in the place at the time. We finally got seated in a nice booth, and from then on, things were great. Our server was really good and the food was quite nice. There wasn't a ton of atmosphere, but that could just be because it was so quiet. Overall, good food and friendly service. A safe enough bet.

Yelp
Blessing is the best. Best waiter I've ever had. Lovely restaurant, great lighting and vibe. Coming back ASAP lol ;)

Yelp
After being told a nearby bar was sold out of desserts, I happened to walk by The District Tap and saw they had a cast iron cookie on the menu -- and man, did it hit the spot! Warm, gooey, and perfectly baked -- it was exactly what I was craving. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the staff was friendly even though it was late in the evening. Sometimes the best finds happen by accident, and this was definitely one of them. I'll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu next time I'm in town!

Yelp
Traveled to Indy for a conference. We stayed downtown and District Tap place was walking distance so we decided to grab a late dinner. One thing about me, I love a menu with a plethora of option. This was definitely one of those places. The table's selections ranged from pasta, to wings, to potstickers, to nachos to bang bang shrimp to cheesecake & we had NO complaints about taste. Service was nice but they were a bit busy so a couple of drinks got lost in translation, but other than that a nice experience. Would recommend & revisit

Yelp
While visiting Indy, we decided to check out The District Tap Downtown since it's the official hangout spot for DCI--and it did not disappoint! We grabbed seats at the bar, and the bartenders were fantastic: attentive, helpful, and genuinely friendly. I ordered the steak burrito bowl (you can opt for a bowl instead of a wrap), and it was absolutely delicious. It came with pinto beans, Spanish rice, a generous portion of steak strips, and bold, satisfying flavors. Yum! I'm already looking forward to coming back. My husband had the smash burger, which he really enjoyed. We even chatted with another customer at the bar who recommended both of our dishes--and also gave a shoutout to the tacos. If you're in the area, The District Tap Downtown is definitely worth a visit. Great food, great vibes, and great people.

Yelp
One of the worst meals I've had in recent memory. 1. POOR MANAGEMENT--Even though there was room in the rockin' main area, we were seated in a nondescript back room that reminded me of a cheap wedding reception. (If you're a manager, you don't allow your servers to sit people in overflow unless you absolutely have to.) 2. BAD FOOD--I ordered a Cobb salad that I swear came from a salad kit, complete with spongy turkey cubes, watery boiled egg and powdery blue cheese. (So bad I sent it back.) I ordered a basic burger instead and it didn't have much in the way of flavor. 3. POOR SERVICE--Come by every once in a while and check on your customers!

Yelp
It was a busy night so we had a bit of a wait, but once we were seated our service was great! I got the buffalo chicken wrap, which I loved because it didn't have blue cheese! It was very hard to hear the conversation because the music was turned up rather loud.

Yelp
The wings we got the dry way were amazing! We ordered a side of Spicy BULLEIT Bourbon sauce on the side 11/10 I have no complaints at all! The nachos were delicious I would suggest the restaurant serving on a bigger plate because the toppings were there just not evenly distributed, still delicious though. Our beers were refreshing my wife got blood orange and I got my favorite strawberry blonde quaff on. Service was fast and polite. The vibe was chill. Highly recommend especially if your a wing connoisseur.

Yelp
We dined on game nights and the service was well paced, without being pushy. Food and drinks were not compromised.
google avatar

Tammi B.

Yelp
Went here for lunch after the Fever game. Had the pork nachos, a flight of craft beers, and a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich. All were very tasty, especially the pork nachos. Haleigh, our server, was on top of her game. Super friendly and attentive. Thanks, Haleigh. The sports bar vibe is just what we needed after a hard fought game.

Yelp
Classic American Food with a price tag that fits with downtown prices. We stopped in here to meet up with colleagues during a conference downtown and we were able to get seated into a booth right away. Lots of TVs with various games going on. I ended up ordering the chicken salad which was good and a very large portion, we also had the pub pretzel which had a few good dips as well. Lots of beer options if you're going with a beer-lover. Kind of loud in there but it's a tap house so you have got to expect that!
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
We walked in and asked for a balcony seat outside--and we got it. The breeze was pleasant, and watching people pass by added to the atmosphere. We ordered the nachos, which were underwhelming. The French onion soup was average--I'd rate it 2.5 out of 5. The steak, however, was excellent: well-cooked and perfectly seasoned--5 out of 5. The salad was just okay. Service was very good overall

Yelp
Huge inside, on Meridian & Georgia. Got lucky and was able to park in the front. The Pacers were playing and they had free gear! There were short and long sleeve shirts and light hoodies, so that was awesome! The menu is huge! Ordered the blackened salmon, chicken tortilla soup, & mango margarita. Everything was good! In the past I've had the shrimp bowl and fish tacos, I haven't had a bad experience yet with food. The bathrooms were clean and so was the bar area. Great for groups!

Yelp
Had a wonderful time while I was there. They are also catering to the GenCon crowd, with a special drink menu and allowing (?) The servers to match a theme for the day (Thursday was Nintendo day). One of the vendors for GenCon gave us a 20% off app coupon (more on the app inna sec... ). There were some brewery and distillery reps floating around with samples (patron tequila and Revolution Brewing from Chicago came by our table). Service was promp and personable. HOWEVER, p sure the potstickers made me sick. I was sharing food or eating the same thing as my friend for the weekend EXCEPT for the one app. And I was throwing up at 1am. Soooooo. Maybe avoid those.

Yelp
Ribeye! Ribeye! Ribeye! The friendly people that work there and the diverse menu are enough to bring me back twice in three days but the ribeye, that was moderately priced and tender as any I have ever had, sealed the deal. Pair that with a Yuengling lager, in my humble opinion one of the best beers in the country, and both visits were well worth it. With tvs all around and a friendly atmosphere, I can see why they are so busy. Service was friendly and attentive. The price was reasonable and can not recommend The District Tap enough.

Yelp
Acceptable walking distance from downtown (monumental circle), this restaurant is alive- great crowd, good seating options, and lots of TVs! Great service too. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich with tater tots and yum to both! The buffalo was well cooked into the chicken and not too overpowering. The sandwich was great, but I did end up liking my boyfriend's meal better. He got the General JC's Chicken. It was delicious! It reminded me of panda express' battered chicken- wonder if it's the same vendor. With his meal, he got a side of chili and he was obsessed with it! Said it was one of the best chili's he's ever had. I did not know chili could taste so different until I saw how his eyes perk up after taking one bite.

Yelp
Came here before a Fever game. The space is huge! Service was great and the food was good. Perfect spot for pre game dinner or drinks. Highly recommend the filet sliders !!

Mary B.

Yelp
Great food and every server and staff was friendly. Everything about these tacos was delicious.

Yelp
Fantastic, delicious food and close to the hotel the conference was at!! Great, fast service!!
google avatar

Leslie H.

Yelp
We needed a place open late for the evening we got to town. The District Tap was open, convenient, and had a couple of open tables. The place was crowded (more the bar than the restaurant), but service was great. The food was great, too! I ordered the Bulleit Burger with seasoned fries. That's a great burger!
google avatar

Brett S.

Yelp
As a bar, I think this place works. As a restaurant, I am not sure. Ambiance, service, and drinks were all good; food was not. The signature Dirty Wings are SO SALTY and a bit chewy. Other food Wass also salty and just ok.

Jadiana M.

Yelp
Karen was SO amazing. She was attentive, kind, and quick!! Made sure to ask about my food allergies and was assuring about the menu and my options. She's the best! :)
google avatar

Seth M.

Yelp
Had some time to kill before a concert at Banker's Life Fieldhouse...The District Tap worked perfectly! Our server (Alissa) was outstanding and the food and beverages were just right. Great vibe to start our evening.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Enough good things can't be said about this place! Family friendly? Yup. Over 21 vibe? That too. And the food? There something for everyone. Even though it was the Pickle nugs that brought us in, it was the wings that made our day. If you're downtown be sure to stop in. Enjoy your time on Georgia Street!!
google avatar

Jenna S.

Yelp
I went here for the first time prior to attending my first Indiana Fever game. It's an immensely fun atmosphere with great service and excellent food! No picture, but the Fried Cheese was to die for! The boneless wings were some of the best I've had!
google avatar

Yelp
Some friends and I came to the district tap downtown to watch the WNBA All-Star game last night. There are so many large TVs and the servers can change any TV to a particular channel upon request (pretty nice & exactly what we needed for the game!). We got a large booth in the back and basically had a tv for ourselves right in front of us! I started off with the 16 ounce of the mango cart on draft and it was delicious and very easy to keep sipping on! For dinner, I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap with a side of tater tots. Our waiter recommended that more people seem to enjoy the tots than the fries and I totally agree. The tots were crispy on the outside with a soft center on the inside and I just selfishly wish I had even more I love buffalo chicken and thought the wrap was perfect as well. My friend and I both ended up taking leftovers home and can't wait for dinner tonight!
google avatar

Robert W.

Yelp
Our first time visiting Indianapolis. My wife and I are in town for our son's baseball tournament. It's within walking distance from our hotel so it's very convenient. The service is great! The atmosphere is pretty chill! (It's also Thursday, late afternoon) Kali J was our server! Amazing recommendations! The food was amazing! (I always forget to take pictures) Would recommend this place to everyone I know coming to Indy!

Andrew S.

Yelp
Decent bar food and good selection of beers Friendly staff, quick Lots of TVs for sports

Kaleb W.

Yelp
Bri rocked! It's the tap so, food was good enough- beer good enough- plus a nice $10 coupon action
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
This place is consistently excellent. Every time I come, the food is spot-on and the service is friendly and fast. The cozy atmosphere makes it the perfect spot for both casual meals and special occasions.

Cindy M.

Yelp
Came to this establishment after the Fever game. Was a short walk from The Fever arena. Game ended late and great place to get some late night food. Food was good and there was a variety of selection. Great ambiance and service, fairly priced. Definitely recommend this place for a good food selection and dining experience.
google avatar

Kaitlyn M.

Yelp
Nice place Our waiter was nice and attentive The wings, chicken tenders, burger and fries were delicious. I wouldn't not suggest the tater tots or the chicken tortilla soup. The tater tots were flavorless and the tortilla soup was almost tomato based. Strange actually.
google avatar

Lindsey W.

Yelp
Seated right away after a Fever game, which was a plus for a Saturday afternoon. Our server was in training but did a great job, and food came out in about 15-20 minutes. I had the Mahi Mahi tacos -- super spicy to the point I could only eat two. The seasoning was overpowering, and they were a bit dry. My partner had the Salmon Penne Rosa, which they rated 4/5 -- decent but lacking in flavor. Fries were unfortunately inedible -- rock hard. Overall, good service and no wait, but the food just didn't do it for us. We'd probably pick somewhere else next time we're downtown.
google avatar

Mary H.

Yelp
Food was good and service for dinner was good. When our server finished her shift, the service after was absolutely horrible so we moved to the bar and it got even worse. One bartender walked right past our empty drinks and when the other bartender came she had no personality. It did not get any better after that. Very disappointed after spending $300.00. Was expecting better service from a nice establishment.
google avatar

Nevaeh M.

Yelp
Food was good! Had to add a little salt and pepper to the potatoes. Drinks were amazing , mojito 8/10 , Tdt mule 10/10 so delish!!
google avatar

John F.

Yelp
Big sports bar that was pretty busy before the Pacer Game, but emptied out as it got close to game time. Food was reasonably priced and serving size was on the larger side. I ordered the ribs and a full rack was more than I could eat! The ribs were average. Maybe a little on the dry side. Not horrible, potsticker appetizer was good and so was the Vanilla Bean Cheese Cake. This was exactly what I expected from a downtown sports bar. Our server was good. No complaints.
google avatar

Morgan T.

Yelp
Stopped in after the Fever game. They are right outside Gainbridge and open till 1:00am. Quick service, good vibes, good music playing. We had drinks and bread pudding bites which were delicious. Highly recommend. We will be back the next time we come in for a game.
google avatar

Yvette A.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday before the Fever game, and it was packed. We didn't have reservations, and the bar top was full. They have tables bar side but we had to place our name in to be seated at the bar tables. They told us about a 10-25 min wait for a table. It took about 10ish mins and we were seated at a table inside the bar the ambience is loud with music playing in the background. This establishment is located downtown, therefore no parking lot. Restrooms are near the host station which can get crowded during busy times. Our server,Noah, was nice. We ordered an app and drinks to start, and our app came out before the drinks, probably due to the bar being very busy. The drink I ordered (the bulleit peach) was mediocre, I wouldn't get it again. It's not listed on the website, I saw it in one of the booklets they have for specials/drink. My friend got the el jefe cocktail - this one was delicious, I'd order that next time. We all shared the firecracker shrimp app, and it was very good. It had a nice kick of heat to it. I ordered the District - a burger that comes on a brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and American cheese ( I order without the cheese) - cooked medium with a side of seasoned fries. I didn't eat much of the bun, the burger was not the best (pretty dry) but the pickles on it were good. My fries didn't seam seasoned at all and were hard. I was hungry so I ate it, but it was a basic meal not worth what I paid for it. I'll probably come back again as this place is in a prime location downtown, but I'll check out other options.
google avatar

Mikaela L.

Yelp
Had dinner with friends tonight. We ordered the nachos for an appetizer it was great! Would recommend it. The main dish I ordered the grilled Salmon with veggies and mashed potatoes. It was delicious but the veggies it's too salty. Our server was very attentive and kept checking up on us, we didn't feel rushed or anything. She made sure we were good the whole time. It's football night so it's a little louder than usual. But, it was a great place to catch up with friends and have a night out.
google avatar

Jen C.

Yelp
Stopped in for the first time last night before a Fever game. Our waitress noted we were going to the game and made a special effort to get our drinks and food out quickly (without rushing us). Pros: Efficient, friendly service - food and beer runners got everything out quickly even though they were packed. They had my favorite regional beer on tap (12 or 22 oz pours) Walking distance to Gainbridge Generous portions at fair prices Family/kid-friendly Clean restrooms TVs everywhere showing every kind of sport Cons: None Adding this to our pre-Gainbridge game/show rotation!

Taylor W.

Yelp
Great food & service. We visited after the colts/packers game & were immediately seated. We had the traditional wings & chicken nachos for appetizers. Nachos were 10/10 and my boys loved the wings. For meals, we had the Philly cheesesteak sandwich, I'd give it 4/5 stars. My husband had the chicken & shrimp Alfredo which he enjoyed. The boys had the sirloin & the kids chicken tenders which they also both enjoyed. Overall, great place to visit on a game day!
google avatar

Allison G.

Yelp
We had the best time at District Tap when we came for the Eras tour. They made it so special for Swifties with themed cocktails, cute backdrops/photo ops, Swifitie music, games and more! The service was extremely quick, especially considering it was such a busy weekend. I loved that they had Yelp Waitlist as well. It made it very quick to put our name in and get a table. We thought it would be at least an hour each time we went due to the line but it only took 15-20 mins. The food and drinks were awesome too! Thank you for such a special experience District Tap! :)
google avatar

Nathan H.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch during the DCI finals. Easy street parking available at the time and no wait for lunch. My wife and I both got the TDT Damn Good Lunch specials, I had the club and she had the burger. Both means were quite good. We both had seasoned fries for dessert. They were tasty as well. The restaurant serves Coke products. Our server was attentive. I especially liked the booth with built in wireless phone chargers! We put our phones down and let them charger during lunch and talked to each other! What a great idea. Definitely a decent place to check out when in downtown Indy.
google avatar

Yelp
My co-workers and I were back in Indianapolis and found ourselves at District Tap twice during the week's visit. On the first evening our large group didn't have a reservation, but the team made room for us at two large high top tables. On the second visit with a reservation we found ourselves at the same tables! Both nights we have amazing service - fast, friendly, all orders delivered correctly. Both of my entrees were delicious - the steak and chicken tenders. Large portions plus sides. I was easily able to share with others, and had I been in my hometown would've had leftovers for a meal the following day. My group also shared several starters. The hummus dish was a favorite. Say yes to the fries pickles and pretzels with cheese. The wings - oof, so hot!! Beware of anything on the menu noted as hot. District Tap isn't playing around. Even my friends that enjoy spicy were surprised. Lots of interesting beers on tap, which is perfect for the menu. If you're staying in downtown Indianapolis, walking to District Tap is doable. (My group did a few blocks from the JW Marriott)
google avatar

Rita D.

Yelp
Great location downtown to catch a game or meet up with friends. They have some good daily specials for food and drinks. Service is typically prompt. Can get crowded depending on the event but that's how it should be. There's a wide age range, which is nice and doesn't feel like you're overcrowded with 20 year-olds.

Teresa C.

Yelp
This place is amazing!! Our waitress was super attentive and took the time to make some recommendations from the menu. All of her recommendations were spot on! We ordered more food than we would have had our waitress not went thru the menu with us. The wet and dirty wings are a must! So good! I had the bulliet burger...a burger (cooked perfectly!) with prime rib and fried onions and other toppings (I don't remember exactly). But that was one of the best burgers I've ever had. I asked for my fries extra crispy and they were cooked perfectly. Our waitress also offered us to go refills of our water and soda. So good! I will definitely come back when visiting Indy!
google avatar

Yelp
The District Tap is a cool, modern Tap House and restaurant in the heart of Indy. My partner and I had lunch there today while on a weekend trip in IN. Overall, I was pretty impressed. You couldn't have asked for a better experience with service and ambiance. Our server was very friendly, engaging and attentive. We appreciated him! We all started with a great brew and ordered lunch. I had the Margherita Pizza pictured. It tasted good but it's definitely not a traditional Margherita. So if you're looking for what would normally be a lighter pizza, this probably wouldn't be what you want. It's much more like a "normal" pizza with lots of olive oil, normal mozzarella and a more fluffier crust. Again, it was good but I was hoping for a lighter lunch. Overall, I would absolutely recommend the District Tap House!
google avatar

Cozette Z.

Yelp
Very fast service, even on a game night, with good tasting food. The Mac and cheese pots are superb, with the daddy 2.0 being the best one. Lots of TVs for the games and they broadcast the announcers in the restrooms so you don't miss a minute

Gina M.

Yelp
Absolutely loved the pork tenderloin sandwich! So delicious! Fun atmosphere with lots of seating. Easy walking distance from the downtown area...perfect lunch and beer spot before heading to Lucas Oil Stadium.

Yelp
4.0* (out of 5) Food: n/a Atmosphere: 4* Value: 4* Service: 4* 10/21/2023 We were downtown the night before a Colts game and this place was recommended by our server at a nearby restaurant as a place to stop for a beer before taking the bus back home. The place was packed and full of energy, as you might expect on a Saturday night - and I was impressed with their selection of beers (see pictures). Since we had just eaten dinner, we weren't able to try any of their food - so will have to do that on a future trip. Overall, a solid stop with a good variety of tap beers to enjoy while downtown.
