Best Bars and Restaurants in South Lake Tahoe | Eater SF

"The Divided Sky is possibly the best-kept secret for live music in all of Lake Tahoe, plus it’s also a great local bar with good eats. Located in Meyers, just outside of South Lake Tahoe, it’s a bit off the beaten path and removed from the overly touristy scene down by the casinos — that’s also why it’s so beloved by locals. The menu serves standard bar food fare, with salads and sandwiches on the healthier side. The Divided Sky sources organic ingredients and makes a lot of its meals from scratch. They have great veggie options, such as the Pollard with grilled eggplant and the Edinburgh with portobello mushrooms. Keep an eye on the events calendar to catch bluegrass bands and DJ parties for a good time without the cloud of cigarette smoke on the casino strip." - Julie Brown Davis

Google
Local spot with relaxing atmosphere, music, lovely views, a bar, and yummy eats. We expected typical bar food, but were very pleasantly surprised by the fresh and healthy menu with lots of salad and sandwich options, which could be customized. We're not vegetarians, but the menu is very vegetarian friendly. Everything was well-prepared and came in generous portion sizes. The staff was friendly and prompt even with several big tables ahead of us.

Google
Michelin star-organic- super fresh-from scratch-unique food in a cozy cocktail bar with a freaking great vibe. Does it get any better than this? We were literally going to go to Hell's kitchen and came here instead and we're SO glad he did.

Google
Stopped for lunch on the way to Montana. Had the Paul Reuben sandwich. The server recommended an IPA, which was excellent, as was the reuben. Definitely will go back.

Was my favorite bar while living in south lake. Bartenders were always friendly, the Waterhouse was always delicious, and their live music nights were always fun to attend with friends.

Yelp
I can't believe I've never written a review for this place! This is my favorite spot in Meyers! I almost don't want anyone else to find out about this hidden gem! A dive bar/homey/warm feeling with amazing eats! The service is great too! The staff is very friendly! Special shout out to Mike and Ivan for amazing mixed drinks and food!

Yelp
I walked in to grab a sandwich after spending the day up in Tahoe with my Mom. I ordered "The Big Dipper". It was huge and delicious. I was so thankful we shared it. The dipping broth was amazing and the cheese carmelized too just made it soooo good. Definitely will go back!

Yelp
Not a low lander corporate service, just straight up local vibe. Amazing food. Gotta check it out if you are in the neighborhood.

Yelp
The service is awful. Every single time I go there, and I'm a local, I sit and wait forever as if I'm wearing an invisible cloak. Food is good.

Heya H.

Yelp
Coffee was poison Please remove coffee as a search result for this business We drove many miles to get coffee in a snow storm and it was like poison unconsumable

Adabella T.

Yelp
Cute local watering hole we stumbled upon. Very please with the food and service. Perfect place to grab a cold drink as well. Would come back again!

Yelp
Split a soup and salad with my wife for a lite lunch. It was delicious and more than expected. Food, service both great. Atmosphere on deck was excellent.

Yelp
So, haven't been here in a minute cause my friend who worked here changed jobs. That being said i went on a whim after shredding, and holy Dina !! The service was top notch and the food was stellar. When I say the. Service was good, I mean REALLY good. They were busy as balls and our server, was hustling. Our drinks came out lightning fast, our food was delicious and we didn't even have to ask for foil or the bill. This guy ruled! Thank you and I will most definitely be back. Want good luck, quick but home made food stop ... go here that's what I say.

Yelp
Limited menu but very good! Daily soup and sandwich specials too. Regularly stop her for lunches or to grab a happy hour beer.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in Tahoe. The food is always great. I love the tuna melt. Service is great. Very dog friendly!

Yelp
Customer service was fantastic! Gave us a GREAT recommendation on where we can do a little sight seeing during the winter. Bruschetta was DELICIOUS!!! Edinburgh sandwich was super tasty and the Kiva was REALLY good as well (if you like smoked salmon and goat cheese)!!! Each entree came with a side and we chose the soups! I got nothing but love for a place that focuses on single ingredients! Thank you guys! We'll be back one day in the future!

Yelp
78/85 on the snasty scale. Locals treating locals like locals. Veggie options superior to other places in town.

Yelp
Took over an hour to put our food order in, then over another hour to get our food, by that time they ran out of soup, which is what my husband ordered, so, no dinner for him. I ordered a salad, thought it would be easy for them to put together, but was brought a salad I didnt order, was just going to eat the one they gave me, but they said it was no big deal to bring me the correct one, they did return promptly with another salad (still not the one I ordered), food is ok here, was the first time I'd been here in years, service was not good back then either. Only came here because a friend wanted to meet me here for dinner, doubt I'll be back.

Yelp
Great food for a great price. Definitely has the old Tahoe feel. Will definitely come back. I recommend the dipper.

Yelp
If you're a local this is a lovely sandwich and salad restaurant... and it has a nice small bar. Kind of a funky 60s feel to it... and great piped in music. This is my second time there having been taken there by a local the first time and enjoyed myself. On the night of December 27, I took my entire family out to dinner to divided sky... the restaurant was empty, but all 6 seats at the bar were full. The six of us sat down and ordered cocktails and dinner. There were two people working the restaurant, the cook, and the waitress. Waitress brought out the first two dishes that were ordered. She brought out a Caesar salad and a taco salad. My son who is a Caesar salad expert grimaced when he took his first bites and he said "I think this is a balsamic vinegar dressing." I tasted it and indeed it was nothing like a Caesar salad dressing. And then, I couldn't understand why my taco salad tasted so good but so different. It turns out the cook had put Caesar salad dressing on my taco salad and put the taco salad dressing on my son's Caesar salad. My son got a new salad. The sandwiches came out. One of the nice things they do at divided sky is they heat the sandwich rolls so they're nice and toasty. However, some of the rolls for the people who had ordered sandwiches were burnt. Obviously, they were not being watched closely when they were in under the fire. I left a $25 tip... But I'm really mad and I'm still mad that I did, because I didn't think the cooking or the server deserved a $25 tip. In fact, as we were leaving the restaurant, neither the waitress, nor the cook, said goodbye, they were busy chatting with the six people at the bar. But as we were leaving, I saw the cook quickly go to our table to clean it off. I felt like we were treated as a tourists, with no respect.

Yelp
Pollard Sandwitch Wow--Divided Sky is lovely! Truly love this place and the food! Parking is in the lot below--walk up the stairs to the entrance! I tried the Pollard Sandwich and holy moly--I'm dying to eat this again. I tried to eat only half of it but it was too good not to finish! Their menu had some other tasty items on it as well which I'd love to try! The service is great and the vibe is chill. This is definitely my favorite place to grab a sandwich!

Yelp
This place is my first and favorite choice! I have never had a bad meal served here. Try their fresh soup made very day.

Carol R.

Yelp
Really good salads. The pear/ Gorgonzola and the apple/ walnut are fabulous. Portobello mushroom sandwich is a fave and the soups are always different and yummy. Service is always very friendly and I like the beers on tap. Cozy place with lots of windows and natural light. Go early as it can get pretty busy around dinner time.

John C.

Yelp
They've done it again. A killer French Dip. Good beer at a fair price for the true pint plus size glass. And of course great, friendly service. Keep it up and will be back soon.

Yelp
We've had a family cabin just a 10 minute walk to Divided Sky forever and only just this weekend decided to stop by. It's a small restaurant / bar, located on the 2nd floor. They have outside sitting on the balcony, but we sat inside as it was chilly this weekend. The menu consists of mostly salads and sandwiches with a few other options and a full bar. The bartender on Saturday could absolutely be a celebrity bartender on some reality show. Every cocktail she made was so well crafted and she took her time with each one, despite the place being very crowded. We tried the espresso martini, Manhattan, and a greyhound (made with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice). We shared apps and everything was really tasty. The vibe is just right at this small neighborhood bar and we will most definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Place as billed for food. Tasty sandwich and beer. So why the 2 stars? The last time l've had such rude service was literally probably 10 years ago. My family and I don't get to see each other that often. We had had a great day together, enjoyed a long hike, and were looking forward to dinner. Divided Sky sounded perfect! And then we encountered the most unfriendly, inhospitable staff. Essentially, it sounded from the conversation amongst the waitstaff that they were angry with each other, their staffing level, and were feeling overwhelmed. But yelling at your customers in the middle of placing their order, being so snarky when we were just trying to clarify that we weren't at the bar just to drink, but were interested in dinner, etc Honestly, you had be be there to experience the weird hostility. It's been a while since l wrote a review, but everyone in my party was so shocked that l felt compelled to. To the staff who were working that day.. your attitude really put a damper on of the few days I got to see my family this year. You guys were so literally mean. So in sum.. the 2 stars are for their poor cook, who was working hard in the kitchen.

Yelp
My nephew and I started our day with breakfast from here!! It was excellent!! The service was outstanding!! Recommend!!

Alissa O.

Yelp
Kim makes this place and the sandwiches are delicious. Don't go here on a Friday night as my son ordered a grilled cheese and we asked for it twice and it never came in 2 hours. They ran out of food at 8:10pm and a patron started yelling about the no service and got pushed physically out and almost knocked down my son. He then threw a rock at the window making a very uncomfortable and unsafe experience. I love this place but not kid or dog friendly. I recommend Ernie's Cafe for kids and dogs.

Yelp
Love Divided Sky- the soups are amazing and prices beyond fair! And the peeps are the coolest! If you have never been....GO!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is really cute! They have some amazing food! Love the salads - large portions - great view from the patio great stop when in Meyers!

Yelp
The years of terrible service outweigh the good food. I'm not coming back. Entitled bartenders throwing the bill not having an ounce of common sense as to what customer service is.. The bartender having too many shots before I even get my first drink? I'll join the group of people who have gotten sick and tired of the same BS. down the street. Do you think you deserve tips for being rude? F U !
google avatar

Kristen L.

Yelp
I originally came here more than ten years ago with a friend who lived nearby. Now, every time I drive through on my way to or from South Lake, I stop by to pick up a sandwich. The Waterhouse is my favorite with salmon, pesto, sun dried tomatoes, and mozzarella. It comes with a hearty salad (soup or chips, I think). This is a fantastic spot!!
google avatar

Yelp
My husband & I have been driving by this gem for the past few years. We've been meaning to stop in, but the pizza restaurant next door always drew us in. Divided Sky has fresh spring mix salad greens mixed lightly with a tasty balsamic dressing that won't undermine anyone's New Year's Eve resolutions! Their vegetarian sandwiches are gigantic and flavorful. I'm looking forward to many meals here in the coming years! Plenty of parking. Obviously a locals favorite. Ambience is what you'd find at any local favorite pub - loud & friendly. They have a chalkboard up showing that week's fundraiser which is AWESOME!!

David M.

Yelp
The food is excellent and the very local vibe is fun! Highly recommend it! Service is good, too.

Yelp
November 3, 2016 10:00 pm Great band. Got a booth right off the bat. Drank fireball, rocked out and really enjoyed ourselves. Upstairs. Free parking. Dark lit with red ambience. A little too loud but sometimes it's great when you really don't want to engage in conversation. The cover band was playing some great classics!...including the Grateful Dead, oh yea! Girls were up and dancing. We were rocking out with the locals and enjoying the awesome guitarists! This little locals spot upstairs is a plus! We'll certainly be back!
google avatar

Abram B.

Yelp
My local spot for a beer with the homies. Salads are top notch, and keep in mind you can order any sandwich option as a salad (Rueben as a salad is pretty bomb). 20oz beers are a bonus. Don't go on a random Tuesday, because they will be busy AF, haha.
google avatar

Grimace ..

Yelp
Brian the owner is great. Food and drinks are great. The staff outside of the kitchen is absolutely horrible. If you're not a 'bro' of the bartender/server you are not getting any of the good food or drinks anytime soon, if at all. It's honestly a travesty. You can do much better Brian.
google avatar

Laura A.

Yelp
This little spot is clearly a locals hang out, packed on a Friday night with a winter storm warning. We arrived at 7:45pm to watch a band play at 9pm. No tables were available, but our friends had saved us a seat. They said the place had a line of folks waiting to eat since they areived at 7pm. So...why? Well...an incredible and unique menu of sandwiches, soups, appetizers, and salads is do inviting. Think Mediterranean...salmon may have been the only meat on the menu. My sandwich was a divine pesto, cheese, sundried tomato, salmon on a ciabatta roll. Terrific! A decent wine and beer list as well. The band played until past midnight and eventually it was standing room only. We will return.

Yelp
Went here just a few days ago after a hike. Food was good and reasonably priced as was the beer. Service was great and the waitress was very accommodating. Great place to stop when you don't want to deal with Tahoe. Which I don't. Great views as well. A personal favorite of the area.

John D.

Yelp
Great spot right off of 50. Food was delicious. Had sandwiches (Munich & Kiva, recommend!) soup, nachos & cocktails. Perfect stop when heading up to Tahoe!
google avatar

Tamara H.

Yelp
It was windy but the food made up for it. All homemade, many vegan options and oh so good! Missed dessert due to a grease fire from the restaurant below and being evacuated by the fire Department but made the day exciting and we will be back next time we are in Tahoe!
google avatar

Alice C.

Yelp
We stopped by here after a very long and windy drive from Mammoth Lakes. It was late and we just wanted some food before we get on our way. This is clearly a well-loved local pub, with a lot of people here with their kids even. The menu is on the simple side - salads, sandwiches and bar food, but the selection is pretty big so you can probably find something for everyone. The food was really just ok, nothing to rave about, and certainly not 4.5 stars worthy. The place was a bit too grimy for me as well (I guess it is a pub!). However, the atmosphere is nice and I do understand why people are compelled to visit again and again. And I, for one, sure am glad they open late so a weary traveller like me can stop by at most hours.

Yelp
Had a fantastic meal and drinks. Kim is awesome. Cheers

Yelp
Love this place been coming here since I started living here the nachos and the pizza bread are amazing!! The employees are super friendly and the atmosphere is cozy

Yelp
Food is great.. BUT....evrytime ive been there they are WAY under staffed.. The owner needs to open his pocket book and get some help!! 1 waiter for the bar and 50 people on July 2 at dinner..UNREAL..

Yelp
Was heading back home and decided to eat here from what I saw on yelp. It was amazing!! Everything I had was amazing. My gf got a turkey sandwich and I ate some of that too and I don't like turkey... service was great very informative and has good recommendations.

Yelp
Positives: Very overly friendly service. Nice seating, both inside and outdoors. Negatives: The food was poor. Palpably bad. We ordered two simple sandwiches and with almost no one in the bar had still not gotten our dishes after a half hour. After receiving our food at first bite I debated spitting it out. The taste was very strange and after trying a few more bites to figure out why I decided it wasn't just the strange tasting au jus (which happens), but it was also the bread, which was yeasty and off. The extra bad cherry was that the soup we ordered was so bad the honey took one bite and wouldn't touch it again. I honestly don't know if it was an off day for the chef, but from our visit I don't know how this place has such a high rating. There's no chance we'd return.

Tracy C.

Yelp
I have been going here since it opened and I understand the clientele is younger; beer, music, social loving people, the food is healthy and dependable, but I have to say even though the place is small and can be very busy, is no reason to be talked to rudely by the staff! Period!
google avatar

Corinna F.

Yelp
Best value in Tahoe! Amazing fresh food and the best soups you can get Anywhere!!!! Drinks are very fair and delish too!
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
Came in with 8 friends on a Saturday evening. Quiet bar/restaurant which is what we were looking for. We sat, asked if they had a menu and they said they weren't serving any food. Cool, so we decided to leave and the bartender made a rude comment about not ordering drinks and his all of his customers (about 4) laughed and started calling us pussies. Then some old hag of a woman that worked there followed us out and started talking some crap about tourists. We we're prepared to spend alot of money at this local establishment. Seems to be full (not so full) of sad and angry locals. Pity
google avatar

Kaleb R.

Yelp
Best sandwiches and soups anywhere! Great staff, good vibes, really can't say enough how delicious this food is!

jonny s.

Yelp
Love this place. Combination of a casual bar with AWESOME food. Salads and sandwiches are fresh, large, and so tasty! The servers are sweet and work hard. Maybe not the fastest place in town but that's not why you come to or live in Tahoe. Thanks Divided Sky!!

Yelp
Stopped by here to get some food on my way to NV. I was in a bit of a rush and had a friend with me. We came in and went straight to the bar so we could place a to go order. The lady working there was busy with other costumers and didn't acknowledge us. After about 10 minutes she finally comes back and gave us water. We explained we are in a bit of a hurry and just want to place a to go order. She stated she needed to check with the kitchen. We heard the cook state to hear, "I don't really feel like making to go orders". She turned to us to ask how many people we need it for. We expressed its just for the two of us. She asked if we knew what we wanted, we pointed out that we never got any menus. She brings us menus and we picked our sandwiches quickly. In fact, she even mentioned that we are the first to put the order in. We paid before we even got the food, this was my own my mistake because now we were stuck waiting here for the food. We waited for a half hour to get some sandwiches. A couple that ordered after us, they got their food before us. Perhaps theirs was easier so I'm not too mad about it but am a bit frustrated. I will note that when we did finally get our food and finally got to eat it on the car (remember, we were in a hurry) it was amazing. Really delicious sandwiches. We felt that the host/server lady was spacey though super nice. The cook came off not so nice. While the food was absolutely amazing, the service could use some work. Would we come back? Maybe if we have a few hours to kill, otherwise, no.
