We went to hear love music and stayed for hours! We even had a local street artist draw a quick pic of us listening.

Kristen

Google
We stopped here on impulse while passing by during our bar crawl when I was in town. There was a DJ playing some great throwback pop and electronica. We ordered our drinks and were given a very generous pour! There were a couple of groups playing a bar game which added to the festive atmosphere. We bought some photos from the photo booth they have there. The place has a lot of character (and a decent women's bathroom, which is always a plus for me)! Great bar with a fun vibe!

BEWARE getting cheated on pours from a Bartender. I arrived and ordered a drink the Bartender started to pour and only did a 2 second pour i was looking right at him. He handed me the drink I told him to pour me 1oz of Rum. He said I need to leave and called his manager. I said good I would be happy to tell him your mistake. The manager tells me that I need to leave I informed him what happened he didn't care. So I left this place because they are shady with ripping customers off. BEWARE DONT GET SCREWED BY THIS BAR.

Google
PATRONS BEWARE!!!!! This was a cool place we hung out at and watched live music when we got to Austin...until...I found out my card had been fraudulently charged 3 times when I flew back home and looked at my account. Not only am I having to dispute this with my bank, but the club doesn't answer their phone or bother answering messages left. Either way, bring cash if you're coming here or walk past it because they have NO PROBLEM ripping you off. Look at other messages about this...same crap.

Mason was absolutely awesome. We were bar hopping to pregame for a concert. We ended up chilling here. Visiting from SaTX. Got a souvenir T-shirt...bro where are the hats! Really wanted a trucker hat.

Leslye Delgado

Google
Music was on point, creating the perfect vibe all night. The atmosphere was just right. The energy is great without being overwhelming. Drinks were made perfectly every time, and the bartender was super attentive and kind. Definitely a spot I’d come back to when I’m back in Texas!

Cameron Brown

Google
A great sports dive bar. Mason the bartender, was great. A fun game to play with him is to go up and give him a color and have him make a drink in that color. Honestly bar should roll out an official game. Thanks for a great weekend Mason and dizzy rooster!

Rio Alcorcha

Google
Watched bartender give me a 2 second pour. I informed him to give me a 1oz of pour please he asked his manager to kick me out. Manager did not listen to me at all he said leave. I just got here so i left the bar. If you like to be cheated on alcohol pour stay away.

Yelp
Awesome bar in downtown Austin. While this city is the Live Music Capital of the world, this bar is the All Day Live Music Capital Bar of Austin! I love that you can enjoy talented musicians at any time of the day and week. We had to walk in after hearing an amazing cover of Lifehouse's You & Me, and from seeing the other videos, they have lots of great local artists performing here. Looking forward to dropping in daily while we're here.

Yelp
Not living in the area we didnt know where to go to have a drink. There was a man greeting people at the door and informing us of the sale going on! we went in and met the bartender MASON! He was so nice and kind and helpful! super talkative if that's your thing! GREAT $5 margaritas!! Awesome music!! definitely going back again!
google avatar

Gabrielle B.

Yelp
Stopped by on Friday afternoon. Clientele was relatively quiet. Bar was fully stocked and had a huge selection of liquor. Service was quick. Holyce was performing. $5 margaritas. Good time had by all.
google avatar

Rhonda D.

Yelp
Strolled in on a Wednesday night, drawn in by the sounds of live blues music. They were promoting $5 margaritas which actually tasted okay (but hold the salt for me!) There's beer pong and lots of TVs... a little something for everyone's entertainment. The barmaids provided attentive service. It's a cool little spot to stop by if you're visiting the dirty 6th.
google avatar

Ignacio S.

Yelp
Came to Austin for the long weekend and found this place wandering around downtown Austin Mike at the door, is extremely welcoming and Kate behind the bar, is Top Notch... Will absolutely be back!!!
google avatar

Robyn F.

Yelp
Large liquor & beer selection. No live music or music at all when we went. The tvs were broadcasting sports loudly. It was hard to tune out. Bartender was fun to converse with. We didn't stay long.
google avatar

Lexi K.

Yelp
Bartender was amazing we had so much fun!!! One of the only places open during the day on a week day! They also have live music a lot of the time!
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
Been wanting to visit this spot since 2005! Thanks for staying open. lol Drinks & shots here. Then a show at the Mothership followed by some street pizza. Perfect night!
google avatar

Diana D.

Yelp
It's alright...nothing special...The bartender was nice...We went in around 3pm, so it wasn't busy at all. Ordered a beer (they have cold beer, I'll give them that), a crown apple cranberry and a Jameson sprite, it was $33. Just another bar along 6th street.

Yelp
Blake is awesome! He is so friendly and just a riot!!! He is such a professional. This woman walked in while we were sitting there. She said she lost her sunglasses and debit card the day before. She supposedly left them on the bar. Blake checked his list and find area, no go. He apologized for not noticing them on the bar and offered her a shot. She refused and was a total B word. She was worried about her sunglasses, but not her debit card. He was so polite to her, but she was rude. Plus, he made us great Basil Hayden Old Fashioneds. Tourists can be so difficult. If we lived here, we would absolutely come back here.
google avatar

Jeremy N.

Yelp
Blake is quite the showman behind the bar! Great personality and helps you have a great time at this bar. This was our first bar stop after we got settled into our hotel that we were staying at. We arrived in the early afternoon on a Thursday, so not many restaurants and especially bars were open yet. It didn't seem like Dizzy Rooster was supposed to be either, but while walking down six street, the bouncer out front waved us in and we began our "taste of Austin" journey. Blake was working behind the bar that day. We came to find out after talking with him for a while that we closed the night before too. He easily could have been in a bad, non-talkative mood, but he was far from that! He gave us a ton of tips of places to check out throughout our stay here. With the amount of liquor on the back wall, I had totally blanked on what I wanted to order. I usually don't ask a bartender this, but in this case I felt comfortable to ask Blake what he recommended or liked making. He recommended a Pineapple Upside Down cake drink, which I had never heard of before, so I gave that a try. Needless to say, I had 3 of them before my wife and I left. Each time he was making them, as well as the drinks my wife was having, he was doing tricks with the glassware and bottles. It was really cool to watch because there was only a few of us in the bar so we got to have more personable conversations. Great way to start our trip in Austin! We meant to make it back in the evening during one of our nights but unfortunately never did. Looking forward to coming back though!
google avatar

Phoebe F.

Yelp
We started off at the bar next door because we wanted to watch the games, which were on, but the music was so loud, so we left and came here. Glad we did! Chapo, our bartender, was friendly and engaging. They had excellent draft specials. Both my games were on, and we could actually hear them. We hung out for the game's 2nd half and had a fun, chilled time.
google avatar

Giselle E.

Yelp
This bar was vacant practically when we arrived however it was cool inside, staff was friendly and the drinks were enjoyable. We sat and played games on the side high tops. Game was on and we enjoyed our time there between bar hopping. We would definitely be back
google avatar

Julian M.

Yelp
Casey at the dizzy rooster was super personable and made us feel at home would definitely comeback because of him!

Yelp
I used to stop by Dizzy Rooster regularly and was sad to hear they had closed during coronavirus. Turns out they have re-opened under new ownership. They did a BIG remodel and the place looks great. Tons of TVs, clean bar, and it looks really great. Will be stopping back in often.

Ursula W.

Yelp
Blake is the greatest bar tender ever tell what I like and he will have a drink for u!! Thanks for the therapy Blake
google avatar

Heidi S.

Yelp
Friendly bar tender who was great at conversation and super helpful giving tips on what to check out and where else to go. She even knew my favorite shot "the sweet tart" which most bar tenders do not know. Great atmosphere and music. I will go back for sure.

Jenni J.

Yelp
I would never in a million years recommend this bar to anyone unless you have no standards. The bar is dirty. The employees are rude and inappropriate. I was here from out of town and wanted to grab a mid day drink after a stressful business meeting and this happened to be one of the only places opened. The bouncer was rude and did not even greet me because he was too focused on his phone. I will say the bartender was kind but looked like he did not want to be there and the energy was not there. All around this was a really bad experience and the drinks are extremely overpriced ecspecially for such horrible service.
google avatar

Carlos B.

Yelp
The Dizzy Rooster, or the locals simply call it the Rooster, is one of the many bars along downtown Austin's 6th Street. Seriously. It's a hole-in-the-wall, smallish in size. But a life-size Texas State outline on the far wall with the famous phrase by their beloved Texan, Matthew McConaughey, Alright, Alright, Alright in the center really infuses the idea of "enough". Plenty of bar space, and beer. No food is served, and the merchandise is hit and miss. I was only there at my sister's request for a trucker hat. The beer was cold, and the live music was a nice touch.

Philip P.

Yelp
I went to this bar on Monday night hoping to watch Monday Night Football in a bar with energy. When I arrived there were 2 people in the entire bar. I ordered a beer and it was served in the smallest cup I've ever had in a bar. Worse yet I asked the bartender to put Monday Night Football on one of the many TV's in the place. He asked me what channel it was on and I said ESPN and he told me they don't get ESPN. Worst sports bar I've ever been to. I walked across the street and found a packed sports bar that did get ESPN and had pints, not tiny plastic cups. Maybe I just got there on a bad night as I see a lot of good reviews, but my experience was very disappointing.

Yelp
Great service. I was here when one of the performers sang with his electric guitar. he has dreads I believe. I forgot his name but he sang soooo good! I was impressed! The drink was fine, the bartender fixed the drink for me cause it tasted like raspberry medicine hahaha! I asked him to give me a drink that's kinda like sex on the beach but different version. Haha. It was t too bad. He was attentive and very friendly. Great vibes and fun place to chill and hangout and dance if you'd like. Totally recommending this place! Thanks!
google avatar

Kevin H.

Yelp
My wife and I love this place and always stop by when we are on 6th. As we are now 40ish, it reminds us of our younger days. We went early in the evening and the staff was very friendly as we were some of the only people in the bar. We will ALWAYS come back!
google avatar

Dave L.

Yelp
Feeling dizzy? You're not drinking hard enough! The Dizzy Rooster is a fine watering hole, with little touches like bottle caps on the columns to keep it personable. Honestly, this bar is much like its competition on 6th Street, which is a good thing since that means cheap, dependable drinks for us. Friendly bartender Ricky Bobby poured us F bombs, then mixed up a mind eraser - something I haven't had in years. Sitting at the bar, we enjoyed the Rooster's vibe, a bopping energy that never let down. The live music wasn't bad - just loud - and the other patrons didn't complain either. No cover, so stop in for a drink.

Yelp
Found this place on a whim on a night out in Austin with friends. I was just visiting Austin so I wasn't sure of the nightlife scene, but I quickly realized this is one of the more "dancey" places on 6th St. It's a dive bar with no cover or line (when we went at 1 am). Music was good mix and people were actually dancing, unlike several other dive bars we had stopped in prior. People were nice and it wasn't overwhelmingly crowded. I didn't get any drinks here so I can't comment on that, but I definitely recommend checking it out when in Austin!
google avatar

Yelp
It's possible for one person (bartender) to ruin an experience. While we left completely disgusted with his behavior and actions, we did return later in the evening to find he was off shift; replaced by friendly tenders. The visit(s) here started off good, went bad, and ended our E 6th St experience on an up note. We were here early evening and then again later in the night. Large open windows in the front of the deep and narrow venue. No issues with the door man (we don't look underage). The music here was great. A mix of genre performed by two guys in hats. Patrons, in general, were fun and engaging. For the most part, the place looked clean. A breakdown of the 2/26/16 experience in "stars": - Bartender 1 (male): 0 (zero) stars - disgusting behavior. - Bartender 2 (female) 3 stars - Drink Prices: erratic - Drink Quality: erratic - Atmoshphere and ambience: 4 stars - Music: 5 stars - Guy dancing around drawing pictures: 5 stars The bartender on our original visit was more than obnoxious and rude. Appeared to be twitching a lot with erratic movements. We overheard him bad mouthing customers out of ear-shot. He threw money at my wife (not in the sexy way) when she asked what was in the 2nd drink he prepared (not what she ordered). Patrons near us at the bar also commented about his behavior, wide-eyed-and-stunned when witnessing the aggressive money throw. I'm not confident that he didn't overcharge us for our drinks - priced at what I'd consider exorbitant ($17) and evidenced by the same drink order later in the evening that was $5 less.

Yelp
I was here with 3 of my friends this past Sunday night. We were visiting from different cities and wanted to get a drink before our weekend was over, and we all went back to our various homes. It wasn't too crowded, and there was a live band playing music from the 90s/2000s. We enjoyed the band. Im only giving 2 stars because your bartender, Natasha, was incompetent and getting drunk behind the bar when she should've been making and serving drinks. I was the first up to get a drink. It took about 15 min to get her attention, and she only came over to me because this nice, older gentleman called her name. I'm assuming he's a regular. After she made my drink, my friends stepped up and she went down to the other end of the bar and proceeded to take shots with some girls instead of taking the drink order. We waited another 15 min to be served and she continued to ignore us and drink with people that apparently she knew. We ultimately left and as we were walking out, we told the door guy that the bartender wasn't doing a great job. And he said "Yea. She's usually a little drunk." Umm...what? Unprofessional. If someone isn't able to complete basic tasks at work, they shouldn't be working. It is really unfortunate because we came into the bar because it seemed like a lot of fun.

Yelp
Oh my! A Gem of a dive bar. This place was well spaced out and well stocked for a bar ready for the extra 2 million people in the area visiting for SxSW. The bartender is world class friendly and the kind of bartender that makes you feel at home. I felt comfortable as soon as I ordered from him and promoted a lot of fun and interaction with everyone in the place. It really felt good. The beerpong table is always setup either in the front or back of the place with an option for the windows to all open up pending on weather. The layout was perfect and there were many places to socialize and put a drink down at. Prices were very reasonable and fun was to be had. Thank You!

Yelp
Awesome bar with even awesomer (yeah I know) bands. We were out cruising 6th street pretty early and been bar hoping all day, and I was ready for some live music to get my evening started. We were probably one of the first people in there, but who cares there was live music and I was HAPPY. We got some cocktails, and chatted up the bartender who was super friendly and awesome. There was blues band playing and they were fantastic. We drank, we danced, we laughed and all was right in the world. I would definitely come back here, they know how to have a good and are very hospitable.

Tyler S.

Yelp
Loved coming here over the weekend!!! It's newly remodeled and looks great. Cheap drinks, good crowd, great live music...the perfect Austin bar!
google avatar

Mindy R.

Yelp
Got totally screwed last night and not in the good way! There is absolutely no reason why a round of shots (four) on 6th street should cost $29. What is that? $7.25 a drink? Something funny is going on... Skip this bar!

Yelp
Of all the bars my friends and I visited on 6th St, the Dizzy Rooster is one of the only places I remember. I remember it partly because of the name and partly because one of my friends wouldn't shut up about how this bar was on MTV's Real World. I don't care. It was at this bar I had my first ever Lone Star beer and Fireball whiskey. We went on Friday night and the bar was packed. Mostly dudes. Almost a complete sausagefest. The space inside was long and narrow. There was definitely a Tex-Mex feel to place, especially with the ridged tin roof running the full length above the bar. There's supposed to be live music here, but not while we were there. Instead, Top 40 hits blared over the large speakers mounted to the ceiling overhead. It was LOUD. Louder than the average bar/dance club. Crowd was mostly twenty-somethings. A lot of Univ. of Texas folks. They had the NBA Playoffs playing in crisp HD on their flatscreens, so that was cool. Go Spurs Go!
google avatar

Casie N.

Yelp
Small place, but there was a great band, which helped with the atmosphere. Bartender was awesome, drinks were good.
google avatar

Yelp
great band. amber lucille. drinks are cheap. all good. even on a monday night. yep i have to keep writing. right.
google avatar

Arlene T.

Yelp
Divey place but one guy on guitar and he was great. Kudos to J. Prather! Cold beer, good company and good music is all I need. The only down side was the very drunk obnoxious guy tapping on everyone's shoulders. Bartenders were very attentive.
google avatar

Justin T.

Yelp
Stood in a puddle of piss in the restroom. Seemed like a regular situation to the staff. Not recommended to my worst enemy.
google avatar

Kyle M.

Yelp
Asked for shot of jameson and they poured cheap WELL whiskey. I asked what she poured and the bartender agressively responded to me "I poured you a F**king Jameson." Ok, I asked her to pour me another (my mistake) and she poured me another cheap WELL whiskey. I drink Jameson on a fairly consistent basis and could tell it wasn't that yet again and of course they severely overcharged. So I RARELY don't tip but she didn't deserve it not that it matters this place clearly markets to overly drunk UT kids. Will never step foot in this sh*thole again. Would give ZERO stars if possible.

Yelp
I was showing some people around Austin, and of course we ventured to sixth street. Everything appeared completely normal, we were having a great time..... when all of the sudden, I hear someone yell "Its the bar from the Real World"!!!! (repeating in my head) Please don't let this person be someone I am with.... please, please, please....... CRAP! All the local Austinites are looking at us with the "Tourist" look on their face, and I seriously considered walking away, pretending like I didn't know my out of town friends..... but I didn't, I followed them into this infamous Austin bar. As soon as I walked in I wanted to leave....... this place is awful, loud, smells like vomit, and ids ompletely UN-original.This is basically a room to get drunk in. It made me angry to know that this place got so much Face Time on MTV, while all the other bars on 6th street and surrounding areas weren't mentioned. While my friends ordered drinks, I hid in the corner, hoping that I wouldn't see anyone I know (and I don't even know anyone in this city!). This bar is maybe the worst on all of 6th street, stay clear of this crappy establishment.
google avatar

Chris J.

Yelp
What a night! I know it's kind of a late review but... oh well better later than never :) I was visiting Austin over Thanksgiving 2015 as my Girlfriend is from there and we wanted to enjoy some good music in a very chill atmosphere... Let me tell you what...The Dizzy Rooster hit the spot big time. There was a guy covering awesome rock songs from the 90's which we could sing along and after some delicious Deep Eddy (local Vodka) cocktails recommended and crafted by Juventino the fun and our time just went off the roof!! The bartender made sure everything was alright at all time, making sure we did not have to wait for another round, he kept those suckers coming and the 6 of us had the time of our lives in the live music capital of the world! I will definitely coming back to Dizzy Rooster on our next thksgivin as the evening just felt so right. A late thanks to the staff and the musician!
google avatar

Richard C.

Yelp
This place was a lot of fun, the music was great. Drinks were a little pricey.
google avatar

Yelp
Tiny bar. Tiny dance floor. Sketchy old guys standing around tiny dance floor, just watching. We left in under 30 seconds.
google avatar

Meggen D.

Yelp
I usually try to stay away from reviewing of Dirty 6th Street bars, but I'm making an exception here. Dizzy used to be a hoppin' place to grab a drink and hit the dance floor. In college we would end every drunken bar crawl with a trip to Dizzy just so we could belt out "The Eyes of Texas" with our fellow Longhorns. The DJ played great music that we could dance to, and as a result, Dizzy was the place to be. Now? Well I really feel that this place has gone downhill. Perhaps this is partly because I'm seeing the place through the eyes of a 26-year-old instead of a 22-year-old; perhaps because it's now been 7 years since The Real World graced this town with their presence; perhaps because the bar's owner, Bachelor Brad, has outworn his welcome on network tv; perhaps Dizzy's time has just passed. In any case, they no longer have the great DJ, the entire trailer park is now climbing onto the bar to shake their stuff (and they have a LOT of stuff to shake), and the dance floor, sadly, is empty (save for the old predatory creepers). I think we should just put this place out of its misery. And if not, no biggie. Dirty 6th isn't really my scene anymore.
google avatar

Indria S.

Yelp
Some friends and I wandered in here one night by accident, but for the sake of laughing...it was worth it. Let's see how did this night go: Big dude in a kind of Santa outfit...suspenders and no shirt that worked there yelling around on the mic. Birthday girl gets blind folded and is under the impression that she'll be licking a jell-o shot off of a very hot bartender...only the bartender gets up and the big Santa fella lays on the bar...the girl hears everyone in the bar laughing and takes off her blind fold to see the big guy there...this is one of those super dressed up sorority type girls, and I thought..."oh god...shit is about to hit the fan" but, she sucked it right off him like I've never seen...it was awesome. Big Santa danced his way through the crowd...I got down with him for a minute...just 'cause. Girls danced on the bar, nothing new, seen it at a few bars on 6th. And once again...the bartenders are hot...I'm somewhat newly single and boy crazy...so...many of my reviews will comment on the bartender eye candy.
google avatar

Yelp
Best Happy Hour on 6th Street. Justin holds it down with a good crowd, good music and cheap beer... Place goes totally downhill once happy hour ends and becomes just another knuckle head 6th street bar. Shitty music, dull crowd.
google avatar

Janine W.

Yelp
After horrible service across the street at the Nook Amphitheater, Conner took such great care of our entire party and made my night out amazing!!! The staff at Dizzy Rooster ROCKS!!! Thanks to Conner, Emily & Tyler!!!

Yelp
Not every bar is going to suit every patron. Dizzy Rooster does what it does and it does it well. Dizzy is a fun place to hang out for Happy Hour and a crazy place to party the night away. There is always something going on here and yes, it can get a little packed, but that is only because people are having a great time. Located right in the heart of the Entertainment District, Dizzy is a great place to start your Happy Hour or to end up at the end of the night. The weekdays usually feature local bands of several different varieties and the weekends usually feature a DJ or Top-40/Party/Hip-Hop music picked by the staff. The drinks are always poured well, they are cheap and they are GOOD. The have a good liquor selection and a good beer selection and they even offer Jello Shots. That right there should tell you that this bar is catering to the college crowd, so all the stuff shirt people coming in here and then complaining about the college kids are kind of ridiculous. This is NOT a lounge to sit around a sip a martini, this is a BAR a bar that encourages dancing on the bar, that plays loud music and that really does know how to throw a party. Why is it always packed? Because people have fun here. If it's not your thing, then it's not your thing but if having fun and partying is your thing, then Dizzy Rooster is the place to be. Did I mention that Justin hosts the coolest happy hour in the city at Dizzy Rooster? Yeah it's fun, it's a great vibe, he's a cool guy and the drinks are super cheap. Be careful you might find yourself liquored up pretty quickly.

Yelp
Lame. Over priced. Shiner is considered import- WTF? So we came in off the street during ROT weekend. Door guy says 2.00 beer. The place was empty. There was a seat by the window for people watching. Perfect we thought. Decent enough for a rest and a beer. We got 4 beers - 1 miller lite, 1 dos, 2 shiner's. That was $18. wtf... seriously? As I said lame.

Yelp
Both times I've journeyed to Dizzy Rooster, I couldn't help but ask myself, "What did the Real World: Austin cast SEE in this place?" The narrow, cramped space sits in a prime location for 6th St. bar-hopping; beyond the ideal address, they have nothing to offer. The DJ is deafening (and sometimes inappropriate), the floor is sticky, there's absolutely nowhere to sit, the beefy bartenders are choosy about who they serve, and you're constantly being bumped into (sans the apology). I would imagine they offer good deals on drinks, but you'll have to forfeit personal space and willingly allow hearing loss to get those cheap domestics and shots. Okay, okay, so I'm sounding a bit like a grumpy old man. On occasion, I enjoy cheap drinks, lots of people, and the pulse of the music, but only in small doses and not Dizzy Rooster style. This Rooster Makes Me Dizzy.

Yelp
Loud loud loud !!! Good place for a quick stop. DJ is really funny. " It's not a Friday night in Austin until some white guy in flip flops starts trying to breakdance " Strong drinks but way too many roosters and not enough hens !! Drink and move on If you have been to Automatic Slims on South Beach imagine it but with 8 to 1 frat guy to girl ratio. Get a free shot from the bar girls and then head to the Jackalope down the block.

Yelp
Went here after ACL and was already juiced up when I walked in. The girls on the bar are unecessary and unsafe! I'm not uptight, I like to have a good time, but a good time to me does not mean dancing like an idiot on a bar! Most girls up there are too drunk to even keep themselves on top of the bar! Case in point- a girl ROLLED off the bar and knocked a pint glass on the floor shattering it on my foot! I really didn't care to be honest because I was having a good time but if you are going to have dancers on your bar-HIRE SOME that aren't blacked out! Other than that, it's mainly gross guys literally just standing there waiting for some wasted girl to get up on the bar.
