22 Spots for Dessert in Orange County | Eater LA

"An affogato is easy to overlook. Combining housemade vanilla ice cream with hot espresso and a crunchy biscotti for dipping, the Dock’s affogato hits the spot after a dockside dinner. It’s simple and satisfying." - Jenn Tanaka

The Dock in Newport Beach is the kind of place that quietly stuns you—from the floating dock and golden-hour views to the food, drinks, and warm hospitality that makes you want to linger just a little longer. We had the dreamiest sunset dinner, and Tiffany And made the whole night even better with her kind, attentive service and incredible recommendations. She even coordinated with the chef to customize my order exactly the way I wanted it—so rare to feel that genuinely cared for. And let’s talk cocktails. Asa, the mixologist, is a total artist behind the bar. Not only did he mix me a perfect Last Word with green Chartreuse, but he used Monkey 47 gin without me even asking. That’s the level of detail and pride this team brings. Food was just as impressive. The little gem salad with jalapeño was fresh and punchy. I ordered the Ora King salmon well done (still perfectly moist), and the halibut with lemon sauce on the side was light and buttery. But the real surprise? The bread pudding. I don’t even like bread pudding… and I devoured it. Warm, golden edges, melty center, topped with ice cream—it’s a must. Between the views, the vibe, and a team that truly cares—The Dock is now one of my favorite spots in Newport. Already planning my return.

There are only 14 tables, but the staff were wonderful. The prices demand it but you will get attentive service. And the ambience is spectacular. You get to sit by a dock with water right next to you. It is a very romantic place. They don’t have any loud music which is great. Their wine list is extensive. And with the corkage being $75 may as well try their wines. The cuisine is French, which I love. The scallops were perfect. I did not like the gravy as much as it tasted overly sweet. The pork loin was only OK because it could be more tender and it was a little dry. The brioche bread pudding is good though I make it better. I loved the mushroom soup.

The Spanish Crispy Octopus was the BEST octopus I've ever had! The sauce with the octopus was so delicious and flavorful! We stumbled upon The Dock while visiting Newport and the restaurant is such a gem. The service was amazing, everyone was so friendly & kind. Our server Frankie was great, along with the rest of the team. I will be visiting Newport again just to come back to the dock! I can not wait to try the Duck, Fish Of The Day, & Lamb! Thank You!

My wife and I have had the dock on our list of restaurants we wanted to visit for years and we finally made it in this weekend and it was better than we imagined. Venue - from the outside it’s super low key but once you’re in you see a beautiful entry into a large yet intimate sitting area with beautiful views of the bay. We sat in the left corner in a very comfortable spot and although I did want to sit closer to the water with a view within 10 min fell in love with our spot. Super cozy and private and not too chilly as the night progressed. Service - multiple staff made sure we had a great experience. Our waiter, Eric and his partner, Aldo were awesome. Both very attentive and passionate about what they did and how they wanted to help. Full of life, big smiles, and on top of it. Eric had the food memorized inside and out and described everything with such enthusiasm that we wanted to order everything. Aldo was the perfect add on to ensure our dining experience was flawless with new silverware, plates, and additional advice. Food - 10/10 so bomb. Everything we ate was incredible. We had the gem salad, Maryland crab beignet, I got the off menu halibut with risotto and my wife got the king salmon that was literally melt in your mouth fatty salmony goodness….lets just say we left very satisfied. Hats off to the chef! We washed it all down with a nice glass of Pinot and a classic dirty martini! (PS, Eric owes me a blue cheese olive 😂😉) All in all we will be back. No doubt! I loved how low key and easy it was, parking was simple and we had a great time. Fair prices compared to quality. Top notch. Thank you to all who took care of us!

From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the cozy yet elegant ambiance of the restaurant. The lighting, décor, and overall atmosphere struck the perfect balance between upscale and inviting, immediately setting the tone for what would become a truly memorable evening. As this was our first visit, we decided to try a variety of dishes to get a full sense of the menu—and we’re so glad we did. Every single item we ordered, from the soup and appetizers to the main courses, was exceptional. The flavors were incredibly well balanced—rich and layered without being overpowering—and every dish was thoughtfully seasoned. The lamb, in particular, stood out: unbelievably tender and cooked to perfection, it practically melted in our mouths. Presentation was another highlight. Each plate arrived looking like a work of art, clearly prepared with care and attention to detail. It’s rare to find a place where both the flavors and aesthetics of the food are so well aligned. What truly elevated the entire experience, though, was the service—especially from Tiffany. Her warmth, attentiveness, and genuine hospitality made us feel right at home. She anticipated our needs before we could even voice them, offered insightful recommendations, and somehow managed to be both incredibly professional and warmly personable at the same time. It’s rare to encounter such impeccable service alongside such incredible food, and Tiffany made our night unforgettable. Huge kudos to the entire team for flawlessly executing everything, from the kitchen to the front of house. And Tiffany—thank you. I meant it when I said I’ll be back to visit, even if it means going out of my way next time I’m in California. You made a lasting impression.

Google
The Dock is an intimate setting, on the water. We had a later reservation and the transition to evening was seamless with lighting and weather. The best part was that the staff recommendations were spot on from rack of lamb to wine pairings and the bread pudding dessert. Signature drinks were delicious too!

Yelp
Best restaurant I have ever been to. They only book a certain amount of tables per night, reservation weeks in advanced pretty much required unless you know them or something of that sort etc All of the food & drinks are excellent & the staff all gives personalized experience. They are able to have the education about everything on the menu and honor dietary restrictions. Have been here 3 times now. Last time was for my 21st birthday and it was an awesome time. Is it cheap ? Not even close, it's Very expensive however this is a meal that will re charge any battery. Not to mention the clientele who comes here is a very high quality type. I met a few very smart people who were able to offer me advice and indulged in conversations that told me things that I remember to this day. I look forward to visiting again for my birthday coming up this August.

Yelp
My wife and I came here for our first marriage anniversary. It was exactly what we were expecting and wanting in a fine dining experience. The space is small and intimate, and not over crowded at all. The staff are all very friendly and attentive, but not overbearing and the atmosphere was wonderful. Light music, right on the water, no sun glaring on the patio. I cannot remember our servers name, but he was absolutely lovely. He knew it was our anniversary and made a clear effort to make us feel the love. Now, food and drink. I am a whiskey drinker, so first and foremost, excellent selection of whiskeys. My wife had the blackberry margarita. Both were great. The food was the real show though. The chef started us with a single bight starter, 8.0. The first course we got two different ones and shared, The Little Gem and Roasted Pear Salad. Both had very unique flavors that blended so well, 8.5. For our main course in order the chefs fish of the day and my wife got Salmon. Both of them were absolutely amazing. The flavors, the sauce, the creativity, all of it. I was blown away by how the chef could create such fun dishes. Bravo! 9.5. For desert we were treated to an off menu chocolate ganache, hazelnut ice cream and berry dish, of course also amazing. Bottom line, this was such a fun date with my wife. Neither of us are "foodies" but totally enjoyed this experience. If you enjoy a fine dining experience with excellent food, this is it. Would come back again!

Yelp
We've been going here since 2017. They been there longer. But we love it. It's Newport's not so best kept secret. The staff is experienced-5 star fine dining level. The wine is great. I love going and asking for a wine pairing with the meal. It's on the water. There is a dock and it's a small and intimate. There are two dinner seating 5/5:30 and 7:30/8. I like the earlier to see the sunset. The summer I like the later seating.

Yelp
The Dock is one of our most favorite restaurants in the world! We don't come here often, but when we want a special experience for ourselves or our dearest family or friends this is where we bring them. The setting is the perfect bayside location, right on the water with a private dock in case you want to sail up to dinner! The room is intimate without being crowded or loud. The service is the highest quality you could possibly hope for. Our server was polite, well informed, friendly and helpful. She kept our glasses filled, and was unobtrusive, (and very pretty) The menu is simple but everything is perfectly executed. My pork chop was the best I have ever had. The scallops wrapped in bacon were perfection, the crab appetizer was impressive! My affogato for dessert was an all-time favorite. There was plenty of parking, but please make a reservation early for the day and time you want! We had an unforgettable evening with our life-long friends!

Yelp
5 stars! Incredible food, service, and environment. The first courses knocked it out of the park. My table of four ordered four appetizers to share and two entrees to share total, and it was plenty of food. Everything was delightfully fresh and unique. My favorite was the crab beignets, which were a special that night and not on the menu. For entrees, we ordered the prosciutto wrapped Maine diver scallops and the maple leaf farms duck breast. Both were excellent, and cooked to the perfect level. The waiter also mentioned that the lamb and pork are their specialities. The restaurant environment is also really nice -- you're sitting right next to the water in an open air space. They have plenty of space heaters to keep you warm outside; it was comfortable.

Yelp
I booked The Dock very last minute for a business dinner of 19, they were very accommodating at last minute requests. I spoke with Tiffany on the phone who was amazing to work with and ended up being our server as well, the staff were absolutely the best!! The food was on point and everyone kept raving about how fresh and fantastic it was the next day. I look forward to them hosting our business dinners in the future.

Yelp
A suitable spot for both families and couples hanging out! Lovely views of the boats and they have their own personal dock from the restaurant. We ordered: 1. Complementary bread and beef with cucumber from the restaurant. Great! 2. Little Gem Salad - $16.00. Candied Bacon, Roasted Pumpkin Seeds, Pomegranate, Petite Greens, Parmesan Dressing. 3. Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breast - $48.00, Polenta Cake, Fava Beans, Haricot Vert Salad, Apricot Compote, Red Wine Jus. 4. Certified Angus Beef Filet Mignon - $68.00, Pommes Au Gratin, Asparagus, Crispy Shallots, Five-Peppercorn Bordelaise. 5. Valrhona Chocolate Molten Cake - $16.00, Vanilla Bean Crème Anglaise, Raspberry Coulis, Praline Ice Cream. Not impressive. Customer service is definitely nice, Tiffany is a great waitress! She is sweet and very enthusiastic about the chef's preparation and presentation! The chef brings dining plates to you making sure food quality is consistent. The wine list is varied with stunning bottles design on the front as well. Great food, service, and ambiance for a weekday night! If there is someone to impress (first date, anniversary, engagement, small group celebration). The Dock will certainly do that. The parking was not bad either.

Yelp
LOVE this place! It's definitely a special occasion restaurant. Every single thing is amazing. I came with my husband and we had the mushroom soup, octopus, pork belly, scallops and the pork chop. Definitely coming again. The servers are all excellent, service is top notch. The chef is superb. If you're looking for a place to impress your date this is the place for you.

Yelp
My boyfriend brought me here for a surprise date night for Valentine's and I fell in love with it! We started off with cocktails and wine of course ;) As an appetizer we got their octopus and it tasted so good. I got their salmon and they cooked it exactly the way I had asked. My boyfriend loved his dish as well! The ambiance, service and everything was so perfect. They even brought us out a chocolate cake with ice cream which was amazing. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Newport. Been telling my family and friends about it and they all love it! Can't wait to be back!

Yelp
We had a romantic dinner at The Dock last night, and it was delicious! The service is excellent and the food is delicious! Amuse Bouche was smoked salmon on a little cucumber. I had the hamachi crudo to start and the grilled octopus for my main course. It was perfectly grilled and so tender and juicy! Bf had scallops that were presented on a bed of risotto. Everything was spectacular including our servers!! A++

Amazing food!! This place is an absolute must if you are looking for a place in Orange County close to the water and with fabulous food and service. No disappointments here.

Yelp
Wow, where to begin with how excellent our experience was dining at The Dock Newport Beach... This restaurant is basically a hidden gem! Excellent food, beautiful waterfront views, and most of all top notch service! Our server Eric went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience and a memorable birthday dinner. I have dined at luxury restaurants that felt stuffy, but this restaurant made you feel so welcomed and celebrated and they genuinely care about their dining guests. Their entire staff team really did a fantastic job and I am so excited to go back again in the future. Thank you all for a wonderful dining experience at the dock, we can't wait to return and appreciate you!! If you haven't checked out this restaurant, I highly recommend. Here are some additional favorites from our dinner: Delish Espresso Martini, Peach Salad was incredible, Wonderful wine menu to choose from with top notch knowledge servers to help you make wine selection, Excellent Halibut dish, the steak was also fantastic.

Yelp
My husband treated me to The Dock this week in celebration of my birthday. Upon arrival, we were promptly seated. The dining room is al fresco style, and has a fully open side bordering the boat dock. It was a very charming space. A little chilly that evening- I wish there was a bit more heating, but thankfully I brought a coat to cover my legs and we were seated next to a mini fire pit. The food was AMAZING! For the first course, I enjoyed the Crispy Octopus which (if you're a fan of octopus like I am) was delicious, fresh, and flavorful. For my second course, I had the Duck which was equally delicious. Not greasy at all, and the portion size was perfect. All flavors worked flawlessly together and it was as pleasurable to eat as it was to look at- the presentation was nice. For drink, I had the Old Newport (the restaurant's old fashioned). The bartender was not at all stingy with the bourbon (bordering ALMOST on heavy handed)- but hey...I was there to celebrate! A charming lady was working the room, ensuring that all of the guests were enjoying their meals (I presume she was the owner?). Always such a nice touch at local eateries like this, and I might add is a reason I enjoy dining at local establishments in Newport. Our server was also very attentive and kind. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
Perfect ambiance, super relaxing (not over crowded, great lighting, relaxing playlist) The food is incredible, I had the halibut and it was fresh, cooked PERFECTLY, and delicious. Sashimi was delicious as well. The service was spectacular. I strongly suggest this restaurant.

Yelp
Food GREAT Sad to say, SOMEONE changed my charge on a gift card that had remaining 121.00 at 830pm and at 1030 pm someone changed it leaving only $61.00 dollars. I told someone at the dock, and since April have had the run around so sad to bad attitude. Ignored and not caring about it. Is this normal? First time this ever....and the dock does not care.....time to tell owner christine

Yelp
Lovely ambiance, delicious food. The view of the water is stunning, if you are able to request seating close to it, would highly recommend that upon making your reservation. We were a party of four and the food was absolutely delicious. Blue crab beignets were a crowd pleaser, duck was a bit over cooked for my liking (but still yummy), cantaloupe soup (of the day) was very appreciated by the table! Drinks were overpriced but Quite good! This restaurant is clearly positioning itself as a fine dining establishment, especially with the prices it charges (~$20 appetizers, $25 drinks). The food actually justifies it - delicious, flavorful, great ingredients. We spent over $700 for dinner for 4! (With only one bottle of wine, 2 drinks). As such, I expect a certain level of professionalism to adhere to their pricing aspirations, and that is where restaurant fell short and I would not come back. For example, I had to always remind them to refill my water glass! My husband ordered a bottle of wine off their menu, and they actually came back saying they mispriced it on the menu and the actual price is more than double and they are happy to split the middle! (Like what?! Any reputable place would honor the menu price!). At the end, the lady abruptly said that the party has already arrived for our table and we must leave (no soft framing or apologies for the inconvenience, just an abrupt "get out now"). In fairness, they did warn us of two seatings when we were making reservations, but there is still a way to deliver the message in a more polite and welcoming way. I've dined at a LOT of fine dining places and sadly, wouldn't recommend this one because their aspirations (and price) do not justify the experience. The food is really good though so if you can look past the service shortcomings, (and high prices you'd be ok.

Yelp
This is probably one of the nicer restaurants in Orange County. The service is phenomenal. The food is phenomenal. The ambience is phenomenal and I highly recommend this for a romantic dinner or a brunch with friends.
google avatar

Ken K.

Yelp
First, parking. Miserable. No valet and in a neighborhood where street parking is the only option. Come early because you got some hunting before eating (part of the star deduction it's for parking). Once you do get into the restaurant, the ambiance is fantastic. Hello OC by the water. It's really nice. The food is also quite good. The only reason I'm not over the moon are the prices. For those prices, food needs to blow me away like the ambiance. It didn't. Good and maybe really good but not great and prices, oh yeah. And service was also good. In the end you want to soak up the ambiance and get soaked by the prices, it still could be a very nice meal.

Kay K.

Yelp
Definitely worth the price for ambiance and vibes - beautiful views of the dock esp around sunset. The food was good to great, but wouldn't say amazing. The service was excellent, our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and checked on our table often. The halibut was really tasty, the lobster in the mash was a little overcooked. The lamb was very tender, and didn't have that gamy lamb taste. Overall a great experience, and would recommend for a special celebration.
google avatar

Danielle C.

Yelp
This place is amazing... they have been here for 15 years and it's delicious. The food is delicious and every plate was meticulously detailed, beautiful and tasted wonderful. We ordered the pork belly and crab cake donuts for an app. We enjoyed the beet salad and we loved the halibut and lamb chops. The bread pudding for dessert was also incredible... the service was outstanding and it's right on a canal, so if you go early your table can be right on the water. We cant wait to come back. It's a perfect spot for a date night or great dinner with friends.

Yelp
This is a premium dining experience. The flowers and presentation are exquisite. The food is amazing and the service is outstanding. Very romantic restaurant. If you are lucky enough to score a reservation at this top notch restaurant, run don't walk!

Yelp
Just an all around amazing restaurant. My fiancé and I had the pleasure of dining here last week and can I just say we had the most wonderful time. Food was excellent and adventurous. Wine selection is incredible here as the owners also own one of the best wine stores in Southern California. Service is impeccable with knowledgeable staff kind smiles. Looking forward to coming back here soon!

Yelp
Insanely delicious food- small portions and high prices, but cool vibe and truly amazing food. Wish their corkage fee wasn't so astronomical

Yelp
First time dining at the dock last night. It was an incredible experience and hoping to go back sooner than later. Food was absolutely incredible. Service was above and beyond. The view on a summer night is spectacular. Wine list was tremendous and a lot of fun to read. Amazing experience and can't wait to go back.

Yelp
The Dock is simple elegant restaurant with a beautiful water view for sure. Our server Jason was helpful, friendly with truly great menu suggestions! The cucumber and cantaloupe gazpacho was AMAZING and the Heirloom Tomato and Watermelon starter was WOW with flavor! The Lamb Chops were the most tender perfect chops I have ever had and the Halibut was oh so delicious! The Dock is one of the BEST restaurants in Orange County from start to finish!!!
google avatar

Kate G.

Yelp
Fantastic food and service! Just wow! I enjoyed the most amazing dinner with family and a friend. We had a selection of their appetizers as well as shared our mains. The Baby Beets were our favorite first. But the Sashimi, Short Rib Tartare, Pork Belly, and Shrimp and Crab Louie were all equally fantastic. For entrees, the Lamb is AMAZING, perfectly tender and medium rare. The Salmon was easily my second favorite with the Osso Buco trailing only slightly behind. Service was equally fantastic. Often places focus too much on their menu but have the worst service that sours the experience more than the food can compensate for. The level of service here sweetens the experience, making every bite that much better. I look forward to coming back again, though I hope that it is brighter outside next time; coming right after the time change robbed us of the dockside views. I would not recommend this place for children, unless you have a highly refined child that will enjoy and value the experience.

Jessica Y.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Staff was knowledgeable and gave good recommendations. They helped us get a spot near the window with stunning views. And gave us a free cake for my husband's birthday. But they forgot to serve the bread until we asked for it. And the raspberry in the dessert we ordered has mold on it.
google avatar

Dani R.

Yelp
Went for private event upstairs. Food was very tasty, great view and servers were excellent. Parking was difficult to find and owner was kind enough to go out of her way to give me her spot. So service was definitely over and above.

Stefano R.

Yelp
Hands down the best restaurant in Newport for all the above: food, service and ambience. Erik is incredible and the whole staff is great.

Yelp
My wife and I just finished an absolutely delicious meal at The Dock restaurant to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We were seated at a white linen-covered table for two at the open-air end of the restaurant facing the marina. The cool ocean breeze and setting sun created a perfect ambiance for our celebration. To start, our wonderful server, Danielle, brought us a complimentary glass of California sparkling wine and delicious warm, crusty bread, fresh out of the oven with creamy soft butter. Next came a delightful complimentary amuse-bouche of blue crab and watermelon with a creamy sauce--a refreshing start to a great meal. For the first course, my wife and I tried the sweet and savory pork belly with mango relish and the blue crab beignets with beet slaw and a lightly spicy Cajun aioli. The subtlety and depth of flavor of these two dishes was worth the visit, but the meal just continued to get better. For the second course, my wife ordered the fresh Alaskan halibut, which was the Fish du Jour, perfectly cooked and served over a bed of creamy asparagus risotto, and topped with sautéed leeks. I ordered the duck breast, medium rare, served with a fragrant slightly spicy polenta cake, Fava beans, haricot vert salad, apricot compote with the duck topped with a red wine jus. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious. The portions were ample but not overwhelming and at this point in the meal we were quite content. However, to our delight and surprise Danielle brought us a complementary Valrona chocolate dessert with praline ice cream and fresh raspberries and blackberries--the perfect ending to a perfect meal. We will definitely return to this wonderful restaurant.

Yelp
Sadly, this was one of the worst fine dining experiences I've ever had. We are locals in Newport Beach and we're excited to finally try this place for the first time to celebrate a huge milestone. (I've also been in the F&B industry for 20 years). The food was great, view was lovely, and the ambiance was nice. However, the service was awful. After our meal was dropped, our server never came back. Our waters went empty, and we were wanting to order a second round of martinis. They were too busy doing their closing side work and not serving the tables that were left. Finally, a busser came up to see if we wanted coffee or dessert. We asked politely for him to please send our server over so we could just get our check and go. We go to A Restaurant and Shorebird all the time. We'll be sticking to those spots.
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
Likely the best meal I've had in the last decade. 5 stars isn't high enough for this place. Pork Belly can't be rated high enough. I had the Pork Chops - Friend had the Lamb and both were the best I've had. Another friend had the Duck, was excellent but the lamb and Pork Chop were better. Wife had the Filet..was perfect. Service was the best and the bartender knew what she was doing. Espresso Martini's were a 10...The Newport was a 10 everything was perfect. Probably my favorite restaurant and by far the best food I've had in years. Second time here.. and they re did the decor. Went there 4 years ago and it was a little of a dive look with great food. Now..it feels like a restaurant in Mykonos on the water. My favorite place and the vibe was fun. A Beautiful restaurant that's a hidden gem. Lucky to have this place

Yelp
The Dock is a favorite of ours, a cozy relaxing place tuck away with a bay view. Incredible food and top notch service! We just had a birthday celebration with a group of 8 friends and everyone raved about the amazing food and great service. I called ahead of time to arrange champagne for our table when we arrived, the manager and staff made sure it was ready to pour when we sat at the table. Thank you to the staff for your excellent service and attention to detail, and to the Chef for preparing such divine food! You helped to make my husbands birthday celebration a memorable one.

Yelp
First time in Newport Beach and was really excited about dinner at The Dock. Similarly to another reviewer recently, I have to agree - ambiance A+ (especially a table on the water - perfecto!), food (the first courses - peach salad and hamachi) A+, wine list was great with half bottles (skip by the glass, better value with half bottles) A+, but the main course (lamb ordered medium rare came out medium with no pink...filet ordered medium rare came out medium well in parts and simply rare in other parts with a potato side that looked and tasted like it came out of a box) and service were really lacking. Such a shame because it really has the potential. The time between our first course and second course was about 45-55 minutes. Someone must have forgotten about us, or they were short staffed (our receipt said that Tiffany was our waitress, but we never met her as our server was a gentleman). We also felt like the tables were a little bit too close together, case in point, a party of 6 next to us 2 was literally chiming in on our conversation. Pleasantries are always nice, but this was just a bit too close (our table on the water next to their table was about 10-12 inches apart, such that the wait staff couldn't even fit through). For the prices you would expect a better experience. We have been to the finest restaurants in the world and this one is not worth the hype. It was our 25th anniversary and we were so uncomfortable with the distance to the table next to us and the unpredictable service that we actually skipped dessert (albeit when your main course comes out 90 minutes after you are seated, we were ready to go). We understand that adjacent tables talking to you is not the restaurant's fault, but when the restaurant positions them that close together it felt invasive, especially on such a significant milestone in our lives.

Yelp
I've heard so much about this place. I was dying to go there I walk in and was met by a rude host who said they weren't open yet, so didn't want to talk to me or answer any questions Menu looks great like I said was not able to eat there. I'm a little confused about this place, however I'd like to try it one day

Yelp
The Dock is nothing less than a magical place. If you are into food, cocktails, and wine, you will be in absolute heaven here. The servers are beyond passionate in what they serve and it is such a beautiful experience with explanations of the flavor profiles of food and drinks. Every single time the experience is awe-striking and you really feel like family here. Everything on the menu is stunning. Anything from a salad, to a crab beignet, to the rack of lamb is absolutely beautiful. Having had most of the menu, it is a phenomenal experience every single time. The staff are just perfect and make the whole meal a true experience that can last as long as you want to stay - you are never going to be pushed out of here. The cocktails are amazing as is the wine and the flavor profile breakdowns are unreal. Some of my favorite aspects of the meals are the octopus (best in the world), the lamb, duck, scallops... who am I kidding - literally everything is incredible. Do NOT forget the desserts. The molten lava cake is insane, and if that's not your thing, you cannot go wrong with any other option. And do NOT forget to finish with the legendary espresso martinis. This place is heaven on earth.

Yelp
Absolutely one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time. Fabulous atmosphere & superb service. Great assistance with our wine selection. Octopus appetizer. Duck & beef short rib mains. Cheese plate dessert. Birthday raspberry sorbet. The whole experience could not have been better.

Yelp
No one in the restaurant is adhering to the state issued mask requirements. No guests wore them either, despite the sign asking guests to wear one at the host stand. Not following covid guidelines, grossly negligent in the midst of a resurgence of cases - putting their employees and patrons at risk. With an older clientele, it seems irresponsible.

Yelp
I've had this lovely restaurant in my bookmarks for months, if not longer! Why did I wait so long to come here??? My boyfriend asked me to pick where I wanted to go for my birthday, and finally, we made it here. Of course the view is beautiful but besides that, the ambience is peaceful and intimate. It is a very small place so it's highly recommended to make a reservation, which it was very easy to do through Yelp. Everything we tried was excellent, the octopus was by far my favorite. The best part of the evening was our server. She was beyond knowledgeable, from the menu and the wine list. We trusted her to pair the wine choices with our meal, it was perfect! Highly recommend this restaurant, well worth it and would love to return in the future.

Yelp
Absolutely ridiculous example of poor customer service. I had a reservation for today at 5:15. I cancelled that reservation yesterday. Today at 5:30 PM I get a call from a woman from The Dock telling me I have a reservation. I tell her that I cancelled the reservation yesterday. Rather than saying, there must have been a mistake and leaving it at that she goes on to tell me that I am wrong. I told her three times that I cancelled and had received a notification confirming the cancellation. She continued to tell me I was wrong. If this is the person you use to interact with customers, you should find someone else. Very rude.

Yelp
This precious Gem is a must! Made reservations through open table 5:30 pm came early for parking since it is a one way street and most meters that go on until 6pm then free of charge after that. Upon arrival 5:20 we were greeted and seated right away. Note: they do call you day before to confirm reservation and ask to hold a card on file. If you are a no show they will charge you $50 per guest reservation. So be sure to make it! The atmosphere is calming and nice touch of etiquette. Dress code is smart casual but everyone was glammed up. So refreshing open area you can see the water. Everyone was in tune with their company. The service here is way up to par. For the first course we enjoys the pork belly and the sashimi. They were both amazing. Main course Rack of lambs: This is what they are known for but in my opinion was very gamy. Would pass on this for the next visit. The Filet: would recommend! Temperature medium rare. So thick and juicy was not a disappointment. They give you bread! I love bread because bread is life! Don't be shy to ask for more! Like I mentioned the service was divine! Cannot wait to come back here to try the octopus and they had mentioned to us of the boneless rib! Excited already just thinking about it!

Yelp
Where do I even begin? I guess thank you to Yelpers for leading me here. For selfish reasons I wouldn't want to let the secret out because it will be harder to dine here once everyone knows how absolutely spectacular The Dock is! But this gem truly deserves to shine and be shared with others. It's a tiny unassuming shop like establishment located near Lido Marina and one would never guess that once inside it sits right along the dock (hence the name) and boat slips. The back wall facing the dock is completely open so that the views are not compromised, a Christmas boat passed by so that was ultra cool. In addition to the ambiance, the service and food was on a caliber beyond stellar...it was one of THE BEST dining experiences we have had in a while. From the reservation hostess (I believe Annette) to the wait staff and most impressively our waiter Erik...everyone worked seamlessly together like a harmonious symphony to ensure that our wedding anniversary party was a smooth success. They brought out fresh, fluffy, piping hot house bread and constantly changed out our plates after every dish we consumed (we felt bad for whoever was on dish duty) and Erik's capability to describe each dish was mind blowing. He was so detailed that there was no way any of us could reiterate it which is why I decided not to post food photos because I couldn't describe them lol. He paired and paced each course perfectly. He asked the chef to split the courses equally to make sharing family style convenient but also presentable. We truly cannot get over how perfect the evening was that we are still raving about the experience and have recommended it to several friends. The level of service and food was of high refinement without the stuffiness and arrogance that some other places exude which makes The Dock that much more appealing and appreciated. The piece de resistance was they made me my own mini centerpiece (we gushed and complimented the one they had on the table) to take home as a gift!!! They definitely elevated our celebration and we will probably make this our annual celebration establishment. If there is someone to impress (first date, anniversary, engagement, small group celebration) The Dock will certainly do that. We are already planning our next meal here.

Yelp
I wish I could give this restaurant 10 stars! If you truly want a fine dining experience, check out The Dock! From the exterior, it gives a slightly different vibe but once inside you will see how special it is. Great open views of the bay, cozy seating. Our chairs had little pillows for extra support and then they asked if we would like blankets for our laps. Onto the food and service - food was phenomenal! We started with the Red Wine Poached Pears and I swear I could have eaten numerous helpings! Their where 4 of us dining together so we ordered 2 servings of this wonderful appetizer. They graciously split the 2 orders between the 4 of us. We tried a cocktail suggested by the waiter. Sadly, two of us weren't fans of the drink only due to it being heavy on the grapefruit. The waiter did say that if we didn't like the drinks they would make us new ones. Without hesitation they did just that and made a wonderful martini! I got the Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breast - OH. MY. GOSH!!! Probably one of the best meals I have ever had (check out the presentation in my photos)! The duck was cooked to perfection and even down to the rectangle of polenta, everything was so delightful and so well thought out. It truly was a burst of flavors that went so, so well together! Will absolutely be back when visiting Newport Beach! Thank you so much to all the waiters and chef at The Dock!

Yelp
I found this place as we were having a staycation on Balboa and wanted to go to an upscale dining. I called and was able to get an early dinner reservation for the same night. Staff was very nice and polite and extremely accommodating. I ordered duck which was prepared very well but the lamb was to die for. Presentation on all the dishes was amazing, it tasted fabulous and I love the atmosphere and lounge feel. I highly recommend this place for a special occasion or to just treat yourself to a nice dinner! Will definitely come back again!

Yelp
As restaurants figure out the new rules of operating in a Corona world, there seems to be an extra sense of customer appreciation at The Dock. As we came in for our reservation, we were greeted with some very friendly and welcoming staff and we were taken to our table right away. This type of service kept up all evening long and by the end of our meal, we were so happy with our experience, we didn't want to leave. First off, let me say that our server Tiffany was exceptional. She knows what classic dining service is all about and she worked through the Covid regulations like a knife through warm butter. Her attention and care to our table was better than most places, without the mask, gloves, plexiglass barriers and social distancing. The food was also excellent. The menu is not complicated or copious, just a few classic standards, wonderfully prepared and plated. The Fresh Alaskan Halibut was served with a Creamy Parmesan Quinoa, Pan Seared Wild Mushrooms and English Peas. Maine Diver Scallops were served with Caramelized Cauliflower, Brown Butter Golden Raisins Purée and Toasted Almonds. Protein and veg doesn't get much better than this. The Dock is a winning combination. The service, food and outdoor dining right on the water, it's a perfect evening. Ask for Tiffany and you won't be disappointed! One of the best dining experiences I've had in recent memory.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much when you walk by, but definitely a new favorite place. Food is to die for. Service is superb. Beautiful ambiance perfect for any special occasion or even if you just want a nice dinner. I can't wait to come back.
