Yelp
Exceptional food that far exceeds what I would expect from a place like this. I don't normally go for bar fare but the cooking here evidences real TLC. I've had the fried shrimp po'boy and the fish&chips. Unlike many places, The Dock does not skimp on the protein! The fries are also scrumptious. And the kitchen is open late! Yay!
The staff are all friendly and professional, and I mean ALL the staff, from the door to the bar to the kitchen, they are all friendly, attentive, cool under pressure and able to put up with everybody's b.s. with a smile.
If it's sports you want then sports you shall get. As long as it's not pay-per-view; I wasn't able to see Vasily Lomachenko box Devin Haney, but that was a $60 pay-per-view event for ESPN+ subscribers only, so I cannot fault them for that. I instead enjoyed watching live sumo -- that's right, SUMO -- on the BIG screen at the far end of the bar. They stay open past normal hours when Washington teams play and the place gets lively.
For weekend karaoke this is a decent alternative to other places that get super-packed. The KJ is also really nice, has a great voice and will do backup vocals for you. Some of the staff also sing, and very well. The song selection, ehhh, it's just ok. Sorry but if you're serious about karaoke I have to be brutally honest. If you're born after 2000 and know the Spice Girls songs by heart you'll probably be happy but otherwise it can get pretty frustrating.
This place has plenty of seating. I have never had trouble finding a spot. The outdoor patio is spacious, covered, with two levels, water coolers, big screens and great sound. When the weather is nice, that's where the action is (big games or karaoke). The fact that it's one street over from the water is a plus; the air is a little fresher and the view is a little nicer.
One drawback, for some, is the fact that the crowd tends to lean verrrry heavily towards almost exclusively twenty-somethings. Not entirely, but almost entirely, and sometimes yeah, ennnntirely. I'm in my 40s and sometimes I almost feel like I'm just not supposed to be there. I recently even had one of these kiddos walk up to my table and hand me a karaoke slip, assuming I was the KJ, even though I was seated at a regular table and not at the very obvious KJ station, which is on the stage with all the equipment where the guy with all the microphones seated in front of the computer, introducing singers by name, doing backup vocals, receiving karaoke slips, and otherwise obviously being the KJ. I guess since I was the only "old" guy in the place, this kid just assumed I must work there. So yeah, sometimes it can feel like you've accidentally wandered into a college party and it can be hard to relate to this crowd if you're not "one of them." But that's not the Dock's fault and the staff will always make you feel welcome no matter who you are.
I hesitate to really call it a dive because this one is nicer than most. The bathrooms, eh, those are pretty divey, but I've seen worse. At least this place doesn't stink halfway down the block the way some places do. They keep it pretty clean and they don't just let everyone get slovenly the way some places do. Don't expect to get plowed or over-served because they're professionals and they know how to gently handle people who've had enough. Personally, I like that. It's a welcome alternative to some places, if you know what I mean.
In short, this is a friendly casual sports bar with great food, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, terrific staff, and karaoke on weekends near the heart of Fremont one street over from the water. Recommended.
