I purchased a puppy from The Dog House in Manchester, CT on September 17, 2025, but had to return him the next day (September 18) because he was very sick. He was diagnosed with kennel cough, which should have been detected before selling him.
They kept him for two weeks to treat the illness, and I picked him up on October 2. What I got back was heartbreaking — the puppy smelled horrible, and had feces on the top of his head. I had to immediately bring him to the groomer, who told me she had to bathe him three times to get rid of the smell. I paid almost $100 just for a bath, which is completely unacceptable.
To make matters worse, I emailed the store and got no response. No apology, no explanation — nothing. This just shows how unprofessional and uncaring they are. These puppies are clearly not their priority — money is.
If you care about animals, please do not support this place. They are neglectful, irresponsible, and clearly not interested in the well-being of the puppies they sell. I'm deeply disappointed and honestly disgusted.
I’m disappointed that you only chose to respond publicly, while ignoring the emails I sent you directly. That says a lot. I tried to resolve this privately, but you’ve been unresponsive — except when it's about protecting your public image. That’s not how responsible businesses treat their customers or their animals.
I want to be clear — during the two weeks my puppy was in their care, he was kept in unsanitary conditions, covered in feces and urine. When I picked him up, he smelled so bad that my groomer had to bathe him three times, and I had to pay nearly $100 just to get him cleaned up.
They say they usually give a final bath before puppies leave, but mine never got one. They never told me the bath would be skipped, and it’s unacceptable to return a puppy in that condition.
Despite their public replies, they have ignored all my private attempts to communicate and make this right. It’s clear their priority is protecting their image — not the health or wellbeing of the puppies they sell.
If you’re looking for a healthy, well-cared-for puppy, I recommend you avoid this store. There are too many others with better reviews and genuine care.
