Where to Eat at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park, Home of the Charleston RiverDogs | Eater Carolinas

"A specialty hot-dog concession known for serving the signature RiverDog, an all-beef frankfurter piled with cole slaw, mustard BBQ sauce, and pickled okra; it sits alongside other stadium meat-in-a-bun options and acts as one of the primary spots for the team’s eponymous hot dog offering." - Erin Perkins

We got our St. Bernard and Bernese Mountain Dog puppies from The Dog House, and we could not be happier! From the very beginning, it was clear how much care, love, and dedication they put into their dogs. Our puppies came home healthy, confident, and so well-socialized — you can absolutely tell they were raised with genuine affection and attention. The Dog House went above and beyond in every step of the process, answering our questions, keeping us updated, and making sure we felt completely comfortable. It’s rare to find breeders who truly treat their dogs like family, but that’s exactly what they do. We are so grateful for our two sweet, beautiful pups. If you’re looking for a place that truly puts the well-being of their dogs first, The Dog House is the place to go. Highly recommend! 🐾❤️

We got our dog Duke from the Dog House and honestly couldn't be happier with our experience! Our family would come in weekly to see what new pups could fit our family, and week after week our hearts kept going back to Duke. The owner was more than patient with us on finding our new puppy! Once we finally decided, she told us she knew it was him this whole time! He was meant for us! The owner takes great care of these dogs! Duke came home with a 100% clean bill of health, and adjusted to our house so easily! Everyone who meets him just melts as he is so gentle and affectionate. When we are ready to add a 2nd pup to our home, we surely know where we will be going! 🩵🐶

My son and his girlfriend bought a puppy. She is a beautiful puppy. They’re kind of overpriced, but she was worth every penny we had mentioned a week before she got home with them that she was coughing. Supposedly the vet” checked” her. A week later my son and his girlfriend brought the puppy to the vet to a real vet and she has bronchitis pneumonia. Shame on those people that did not check her thoroughly. There’s no way there was nothing not brewing with her before she went home.

We got our pup over a month ago and he’s doing amazing! It was a very easy and friendly process. A lot of my family and friends have all gotten their dogs from the Dog House as well.

I purchased a puppy from The Dog House in Manchester, CT on September 17, 2025, but had to return him the next day (September 18) because he was very sick. He was diagnosed with kennel cough, which should have been detected before selling him. They kept him for two weeks to treat the illness, and I picked him up on October 2. What I got back was heartbreaking — the puppy smelled horrible, and had feces on the top of his head. I had to immediately bring him to the groomer, who told me she had to bathe him three times to get rid of the smell. I paid almost $100 just for a bath, which is completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, I emailed the store and got no response. No apology, no explanation — nothing. This just shows how unprofessional and uncaring they are. These puppies are clearly not their priority — money is. If you care about animals, please do not support this place. They are neglectful, irresponsible, and clearly not interested in the well-being of the puppies they sell. I'm deeply disappointed and honestly disgusted. I’m disappointed that you only chose to respond publicly, while ignoring the emails I sent you directly. That says a lot. I tried to resolve this privately, but you’ve been unresponsive — except when it's about protecting your public image. That’s not how responsible businesses treat their customers or their animals. I want to be clear — during the two weeks my puppy was in their care, he was kept in unsanitary conditions, covered in feces and urine. When I picked him up, he smelled so bad that my groomer had to bathe him three times, and I had to pay nearly $100 just to get him cleaned up. They say they usually give a final bath before puppies leave, but mine never got one. They never told me the bath would be skipped, and it’s unacceptable to return a puppy in that condition. Despite their public replies, they have ignored all my private attempts to communicate and make this right. It’s clear their priority is protecting their image — not the health or wellbeing of the puppies they sell. If you’re looking for a healthy, well-cared-for puppy, I recommend you avoid this store. There are too many others with better reviews and genuine care.

I got my Gracie there about 1.5 years ago on a whim and I couldn’t be happier! She is an absolute love and sweet. She’s a mini schnauzer and the experience was great when we went and saw her. The customer service was wonderful and the process was seamless. Gracie was very healthy and I was very happy that they included all her paperwork, shot records and contact information of where they got her from. Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from. Most of them have to do with puppies who are ill. Yes, it is unfortunate and stressful but you would find these illnesses at any breeder or shelter as well. It’s not the facility. Puppies are very susceptible. I saw a comment about Parvo. Parvo is one of the most common illnesses puppies get regardless of where you get the animal from. It’s very contagious and the animal can pick it up from anywhere regardless of their age (which is something I wasn’t aware of until my vet told me when I called because a friend’s dog from the dog park contracted it and Gracie was around them.) It’s a quick fix at the vet and the number one illness that vet checks for at the first visit (which should be immediate after getting the animal) for due to being so common. Remember, just as humans have illnesses and issues, so do animals. Highly recommend. I actually have to stay away because if I see another mini schnauzer I will have another mini schnauzer! :)

I purchased my chihuahua a month ago. Iris was wonderful, going above and beyond to make this a posive experience. I am impressed with this pet store as it is a lot of work to care for a few pups and they have so many. They really do a great job staying on top of things. My dog tested positive for giardia at his first vet visit. I want to say, my daughter purchased a puppy from The Dog House a year ago. The dog is the center of her life, and was healthy at purchase and still is a healthy little girl. Unfortunately a sickness can occur in any animal and I am so happy The Dog House took my little pup, who was then able to be passed on to me. I love animals, and I am grateful it was me that was able to improve his life. Iris, thank you, and continue doing what you're doing. You are very good at it.

This place is a nightmare. From across the plaza at Guitar Center you can hear the dogs non-stop barking. It’s clear they’re in pain and not well taken care of. When I asked where they got the dogs from they said India. It’s clear they are buying for cheap, and selling for an high price. Only caring about the profit and not about the animal. Anyone who cares about animals would not support this place, I can’t believe it hasn’t gotten shut down yet. I hope everyone who works here is ashamed and lives with the same pain they out these animals through.
