Everywhere to Eat and Drink in the Adirondacks | Eater NY

"A full service laundromat combined with a doughnut shop might not seem like a must-visit at first, but one look at the menu might change some minds. With more than a dozen flavors like blueberry, chocolate, bacon, and cinnamon, these freshly fried donuts are almost a bigger draw than the laundromat itself. Campers in particular will find this the ultimate destination: Wash and dry a load of clothes after a few days in the woods and gorge on some doughnuts while they spin." - Matt Lardie

Google
The Washboard Donut Shop & Laundromat – A Sweet Surprise After Rollins Pond After camping at Rollins Pond, we went searching for fresh, fried cakes and stumbled upon The Washboard Donut Shop & Laundromat. The smell alone was enough to draw us in, and the donuts did not disappoint—crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, and just the right amount of sweetness. We didn’t need to do laundry that day, but the idea of sipping coffee and eating fresh donuts while your clothes spin in the next room is pure Adirondack practicality. We had the chance to meet the owners, who shared that the shop has been in the family for roughly 35 years—a rare kind of continuity you can taste in every bite. If you’re passing through after a weekend in the woods, whether you’re in need of clean clothes or just a bit of fried perfection, this place is worth the stop.

I know, you're thinking really? 5-star for atmosphere? Yes! Where else are you going to get fresh homemade & delicious donuts in the company of a laundromat?! The quirk is what gives the place charm, but really the donuts are truly amazing -- some of best I've ever had, and handmade by the owner himself throughout the day. Don't miss a stop here!

Google
Best donuts ever!! NO comparison. We've been coming to the daks 1-2 times per year for the last 20(?) years and try to include a stop here even if it's out of the way. We were there again 2 days ago, with about 10 frosting flavors to choose from. Watched the hikers ahead of us in line stop outside to get a shot of the half-dozen in their box as they left. Big smiles all around! Keep up the great work, will be there again in July!

I kid you not, these were probably the best donuts I have ever had. What's cool is that it triples as a gift shop, laundromat, and donut shop. Really unique but the donuts were simply incredible. The maple flavor was super delicious.

Stopped in for a few donuts while passing through. The donuts were fresh, flavorful and delicious.

Google
Such a unique stop, with a donut shop, gift shop and laundry mat all in one. We happened to see the donuts when passing through and decided to try them out. They were delicious. Tasted freshly fried with crisp edges and cakey insides, and frosted to order with silky buttercream. The pumpkin glazed was the grown-up favorite, and my daughter loved the strawberry frosted. We'll definitely stop when we're in town again.

Love this place! Some of the best doughnuts I’ve ever had! The best frostings for the doughnuts are maple and blueberry, hands down. The ONLY issue is that they don’t let you buy Just the frosting. They used to, years ago, but now (for some unknown and seemingly random reason) they don’t. I tried buying some outright and was told “we can’t do that anymore” but wasn’t given an explanation. Then I thought, okay, I’ll order some plain doughnuts with frosting on the side, SURELY they would “allow” that. Nope. I was told, “the owner doesn’t like when we do that and they have us on camera”. This is VERY off-putting, not only as a customer, but for the poor employees. They were genuinely sorry they “could not” help me; they almost seemed afraid of the owner. Just let us buy the frosting! Why the change? New owners with (sorry not sorry) less appreciation for their customers? Otherwise, no complaints. Just had a two-day old blueberry topped doughnut that (despite being soaked with frosting because I was “not allowed” to have it “on the side”) tasted fresh!

Google
Best donuts in the Adirondacks, located inside a Laundromat. You get to pick your donut toppings. Hidden gem. Highly recommend grabbing some donuts to go.

Yelp
Im a fan of this odd business which is a combination laundromat, donut shop and native american gift shop. There is a walk up window inside the laundromat area where you can get fresh made cake-style donuts topped to your liking. The list of toppings are basically frosting-based along with some add-ons like crushed oreos and jimmies/sprinkles. My donut was still slightly warm and was honestly the best cake donut I've ever had. It was perfectly complimented by chocolate frosting. The frosting was regular commercial birthday cake style frosting and was likely commercially made. Whether thats a problem or not for you, it takes the back seat to the freshness and experience of the donut itself. Highly recommended. I dont like to review other reviewers on here but one previously posted review bothers me. She talked about food safety concerns because the donuts are sitting on a tray on the counter in the prep area uncovered. I hope she never goes into a Dunkin because she will see donuts muffins bagels just sitting on the rack all day uncovered! A bagel shop also just has bagels sitting in baskets uncovered! A baguette loaf of bread at panera or artisan bakery??? Also uncovered! She also pointed out that the coffee being served is produced using a non-commercial grade k-cup brewer and assumes it is unclean as a result which is baseless. This is upstate, booboo. A small business catering to small town clientele is going to buy a k-cup machine from walmart rather than get a pricey commercial brewer from restaurant supply because they wont be moving the volumes to justify the cost of it. Its basic, regional economics. Its also customer base. Its also not a coffee place...its really about the donuts with coffee to accompany the delicious homemade fresh donut. Again, this is upstate. Go into any mom and pop type bar, diner, store, etc and you will find things like non-commercial grade appliances. How many bars up here have you been in up here where they use a home Mr Coffee or a home range or toaster oven or the like to make coffee or some food offering? Again, this is local economics. As long as things are clean, its fine.

Yelp
Hands down the best donuts i have ever tried. I wish one thing. I could order a huge amount for delivery to share the special delight. Let me know if this is at all an option if the owner's read this review. Thank you for years of donuts that went very well on boat rides and car rides alike. Mmm mmm mm.

Yelp
Go for the donuts. Tiny corner of a laundromat has a inside service window for donuts. Delicious homemade old fashioned fry donuts with customized toppings of your choice. Highly recommend the maple topping. They have coffee there too. Don't miss this. I ate my donuts and forgot to take a photo. ‍‍

Yelp
Soooooo I was super excited to try this place because I'd heard good things. However, it came nowhere close to living up to those recommendations, and in fact, I'm still a little sus about the whole operation and thankful it was just donuts and coffee because it's good poisoning waiting to happen. Super unsanitary, not clean, and not good, either. Donuts are on a counter uncovered (gag), flavored coffee is made with K-cups in a non-commercial grade brewer (has it ever been cleaned? The taste told me otherwise) and coffee served in styrofoam Cups?! Is this 1993? Holy environmental nightmare (that adds to the horrid tasting coffee BTW). For your donuts, the woman behind the counter pulls out a tub of whatever flavored icing you want on your donut and swipes it and and you're ready to go. Do yourself a favor and find donuts and coffee elsewhere.

Yelp
How there is there only one review for Washboard Donuts? They are simply divine! They are fried...a little crunchy on the outside with your choice of fluffy topping (I highly recommend the peanut butter, maple cream, or rasberry but all are excellent). They are sweet but not sickening sweet and simply perfect. You have to go into the laundromat to access the donuts. There is also an adorable little gift shop that is right across the hallway that is part of the store. This is a little Adirondack gem you must try!

Yelp
Super fun, surmising little gem nestled in the front entrance of a laundromat. FRESH fry cakes, dense and moist, frosted on-demand. We had: Maple Bacon, Blueberry, & Chocolate icing w Rainbow sprinkles. MUST TRY!

Yelp
Don't think, just come here. Best doughnuts I have ever had, great toppings offered, plus $1 per doughnut. Fresh, fluffy, well balanced flavors- a perfect doughnut.

Yelp
Very cute, little donut shop with fresh donuts and other goodies. The donuts are made fresh and then decorated with what you want on top. Get there early because they sell out!
