The Dörr Hotel

What a great little place. James and the staff were over the top, nice, and accommodating. Everything was perfect: the look, the feel, and every detail down to the scent of the lobby. The room was clean, well-designed, and very chic. I highly recommend staying at The Dörr Hotel! You will not regret it!

Very unique, upon checking in i wondered where to check in, actually at their small bar, most unique. Great central location in Sister Bay for walking, yet far enough north in the peninsula that it’s quiet. Very nice views of the bay, albeit over tree tops. This hotel is extremely relaxing, nice staff. The rooms are modern, although the sliding door to the restroom could be a bit more (private). We really liked it here.

Came to Door County from Chicago for the fm106.9 The Lodge’s Cherry Drop New Year’s party and The Dorr was absolutely amazing! Beautiful, comfortable, smelled amazing, clean and so accommodating. The staff was very kind and attentive and the beds are ridiculously comfortable.

Gorgeous new hotel with a stunning Nordic vibe. Only a few things keeping it from being 5 stars. We stayed in the suite and got only 2 complementary waters for a 2 night stay. When we asked for some more they said it was for a charge. Likewise, the TVs are live TV only with no option to connect any kind of streaming service (Netflix, Hulu, etc). With a few improvements to service this could be a great 5 star!

This was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. Clean, comfortable, amenities were 5 star all around. Kind, helpful staff. We came for our 10 year anniversary and will be back next summer! Balcony coffee and reading in the morning was ultimate relaxation. The room upgrade we unexpectedly got was also a wonderful surprise. We loved every moment!

We stay at the Dorr hotel every June. Hands down the best hotel in Sister Bay. Luxurious accommodations. Rooms are clean, and I love the Scandinavian feel. Staff is attentive to the customers needs. The staff is also very very nice and sweet. Love the fact that its walking distance to everything. Can’t wait till next summer. The Dorr is our home away from home.

We loved our winter stay at The Dörr Hotel! We enjoyed a perfect blend of modern with winter coziness and charm! The location was ideal, the room was spacious and inviting for our family of 4 and the lobby with bar was beautiful and useful. All staff were welcoming and helpful. My boys particularly loved that they could get complimentary hot chocolate from the convenient machine in the lobby as well as a light snack for breakfast. I would absolutely stay here again and plan to recommend this hotel to a friend who is planning a surprise trip for his wife.

If you can manage, there's nothing like top floor Dorr! We been coming since previews and have never been disappointed. Clean, super spacious rooms, amazing views, friendly staff. Best of Sister Bay all in walking and Chop in the same same lot. Highly recommend.

Lived in Door Co in early 2000s & been a visitor before & still am. Shmelt'z monstrosity belongs elsewhere, we have nature for the "big visuals" here -- and they look and feel infinitely better. Feels like a jab in the gut everytime I go down the glorious hill on 42 into SB and see this cancerous tumor delling the door. Overpriced, cheaply built, no consideration for folks who love/live/know this land beyond dollar signs... Give me a break.

We stayed over Christmas weekend 2021 and had a very good experience. Our room was inviting and comfortable; a modern yet cozy feeling. The employs are friendly, helpful, attentive, James ( runs the place), Alicia, Bruce and all of housekeeping to name a few. Great hosts. On Saturday we came down to the lobby to watch a football game and were treated to an impromptu party. A few drinks on the house (none on the floor) and some camaraderie with staff other guests. After the game the lobby fireplace kept the atmosphere warm while we enjoyed the bread, cheese and sausage we had brought along. A simple breakfast is available each day and plenty of eating available within walking distance. And the rest of Door County is not far away! Highly recommended.

Wow! What a terrific find this hotel was for us. The sleek decor is reminiscent of modern Scandinavian design. The hotel is a very personal experience. The lobby also serves as guest reception and bar. There is seating in front of the large fireplace to sit and relax, read or play board games. You can also sit and enjoy the fabulous water view. Breakfast of yogurt, delicious muffins, fruit, and coffee is a nice touch. Our suite was spacious and had all the modern conveniences and two huge balconies. The location is nice for strolling around town, and makes driving the peninsula easy. We highly recommend this hotel and look forward to our next stay.

I can somewhat relate to Lori P.'s experience. While the rooms at the Dörr are modern and lovely - Scandinavian decor, comfortable beds, beautiful bathrooms - the staff indeed gives off a cliquish attitude. When entering the Dörr's welcoming lobby, you're greeted with a vibe that reminds me of a hipster hotel where the management insists that a warm welcome doesn't go with the decor. And believe me, I'm usually all for being handed a complimentary turntable upon check-in if you excuse my Portlandia reference. We stayed at the Dörr a few weeks before the season started, while the hotel was still relatively empty. We enjoyed the room, the location, and the restaurant next door. The vibe in the lobby sometimes changes - on Sunday, two friendly people appeared, and we nearly had a chat! Overall, it feels like interrupting an in-crowd on the way to your room. Pro tip: when getting your complimentary drink, just assume that your choice is limited to what's on tap; the staff is strangely defensive when asked if you can have something else. As for breakfast: the healthy juices in the little bottles are yummy. Grab one and head over to Skip Stone Coffee Roaster for a breakfast sandwich.

First time staying and it was wonderful! Welcoming staff upon entering the lobby. Easy to find room. Beautiful, clean, comfortable room. Patio with two very comfortable chairs. Leaving in the morning the staff was super helpful. I have a walking issue and use a cane. Someone came over after I got off the elevator and asked if they could put my bag in the car for me. Almost made me cry. Everyone there is considerate, nice, observant, and generous with information about Sister Bay. I won't stay anywhere else. Already booked for fall.

This hotel is AMAZING! It is absolutely gorgeous, immaculate, has the most comfortable beds and pillows, quiet rooms and you truly cannot beat the location. James - the GM - is so friendly and helpful, whether giving out a new room key (oops), recommending complimentary beers (on tap in the lobby) or high-fiving my little ones. Family friendly, but so want to go back with just my husband, too. Such an awesome place and cannot wait to go back next year!

We decided to spend our 27th Anniversary at the Dorr.  We were excited to checkout the hotel.  No room cleaning service is available.  Breakfast was pretty picked over at 9 when we went downstairs. On Saturday we went downstairs to get a drink before heading to dinner.  There was a table set up with cheese in the lobby and people were gathered and talking.  We got our drink and had some of the cheese.  As we watched one of the staff hand out wine glasses to everyone else we realized this may be an event (although there was no signage to indicate it).  I went to the bar and asked the Dorr employee (woman) and was told it was a wine event and that people had purchased tickets.  I apologized and said we didn't see any signs and had eaten some of the cheese.  Her response was "just stay away from the food." Not "I understand that it was a mistake."  Or "it's ok."  Embarrassed we left.  When we returned several people from the event remained and were very loud in the lobby. So here's my advice if you are looking at booking at the Dorr...."just stay away from the Dorr."  It's not worth the money for that much pretentiousness!

This was our first of many visits! Everything was perfect from the minute we walked in. The rooms are huge, quiet, and modern, the staff is friendly, great location, and the views were amazing!! Highly recommend!
