A 1921 stage built by Charles H. Douglass, this storied Black theatre hosted legends and still books films, festivals, and concerts. Recognized by Fodor’s and regional media, it remains a vital cultural anchor in downtown Macon.
I had a phenomenal experience at the Douglass Theatre in Macon, Ga this past Saturday. I attended the wonderfully written production of ‘If You Loved Me.’ The play was exactly what I needed and I found myself relating to many of the characters! The cast was super talented and passionate about their craft! The staff at the theatre are always warm and welcoming and online ticket purchasing was extremely user friendly! Parking was hassle free and the popcorn was delicious! I highly recommend giving this history filled establishment a visit! You won’t be disappointed! 🎭

Everyone should take the time to visit this beautifully restored theatre. Find an event at this place and go. It is worth the price of the ticket just to see the interior.
There is a multilevel parking garage beside the theatre. Restaurants are within walking distance over on Cherry Street.

Another local and absolutely beautifully restored theatre in downtown Macon. The four stars are due to its size. Compared to the Grand, this theatre is very small. If I had to guess, it seats maybe 400 people total? It makes for an "intimate" experience, sure... but that's just another word for "tight." I hope you like the person sitting next to you!

Went to watch "If your girl only knew", and it was very nice. The establishment was very nice. Comfortable space for the crowd, nice accommodations, and comfortable seating. Staff was very friendly and helpful with answering questions, and giving directions/suggestions for local attractions and dining places.

The historic Douglas Theater is a community landmark. This underrated hidden gem is a great place for receptions, events and family gatherings. I highly recommend Jazz on The Courtyard.

Nice space for a small to medium sized gathering. Enough space for a buffet or plated dinner served per guest. Seating is adequate for dining and dancing if it's set appropriately. Parking is scarce so plan to walk if you're not parking up front. There is a parking deck that looks pretty secure and nicely lite for those not parking upfront for loading and unloading of guests and or catering. Overall, a really good space. Oh, and the attendant at the facility is very helpful with setup. Luis did a superb job.

I visited the historic Douglass Theatre for the extraordinary presentation of Colorblind, directed by my friend Amanda Niqole. The small auditorium was made for an intimate experience! The play and particularly the actors were great!! 👏🏾

Went to see a play here on Nov. 6th called Lover's and Friends and it was hilarious. Also very entertaining in general. Nice Theatre felt very authentic to its history with nice updates to the restrooms. Overall I enjoyed the atmosphere and the play was by The Silas Agency. They did a phenomenal job...the entire cast. 👏🏾 Bravo

Yelp
There should be before and after pictures of the theatre from first built down through the years until now. The outside don't quite capture it for me as I know it from my childhood.
When I was growing up with the neighborhood children, cousin and myself we all would go to the movies with a capitola from the 5lb. bag of flour, that was money the size of a 50 cent coin (don't remember the value of it). I had to wait for the flour to be used up before I could get another one. Sometimes they had one or paid money to get in. It seemed so much larger then....just a stroll down memory lane....LOL. Please put a mural or collage of it's original look outside on the walls!!

Yelp
Stopped by with my son, who is an aspiring cinematographer. I wanted him to see the building while learning about the history. It was closed due to COVID, but we'll be back.

Yelp
Probably my favorite place for concerts & for watching movies & live transmissions on the huge screen. Elegant, but very comfortable. Comfortable seating. Great acoustics. It's large, but not so large that it feels impersonal.
They always have a ton of events going on--some w free or seriously reduced prices for seniors.
This is THE PLACE for African American culture, for opera lovers, & for movies that probably won't be shown at Amstar.
Check their on-line event schedule or stop by on a weekend.
A priceless cultural treasure in historic downtown Macon.
