I moved into The Driftway on 08/25/24. I pay over $2.4k/month to live in a 1/1 on the 2nd floor. I picked the 2nd floor as they're the only units with patios and because I was told that the unit above mine would have less foot traffic due to it being a luxury hotel (The Roost). This, I later found out, was a lie.
Everyday since moving in, I've listened to workshop sounds come through my ceiling: hammering, drilling, sanding/sawing, the constant fumbling and dropping of tools, etc. I first emailed The Driftway on 09/27, which was ignored until 10/31. In early November, The Driftway was bought by Greystar Property Management (Google them), resulting in my emails being passed around and disregarded until 12/11. On 12/12, staff from The Roost allowed me to view the unit directly above mine, as well as the unit to its left. Aside from the garbage and dirt, the units were cluttered with tools, furniture pieces, equipment manuals, etc. One unit even had a torn apart washing machine in it. They were not luxury hotel rooms but, in fact, studio workshops.
What's most unsettling about all of this is that, even after catching them in the lie (amongst others), site management still insists the unit above me is empty. I've sent countless videos of the sounds, even photos to showcase the difference in window activity (3 attached for reference). However, their response (if they respond) remains the same, saying that "the unit is vacant" and that I should "check my vents". Are they gaslighting me because they're renting under the table? Is it squatters accessing the unit? Whatever it is, it's unsettling, stressful, and in NO way luxurious.
Last week, they moved the furniture from the show unit next to me to the "vacant" unit above me, but the sounds remain the same. I will update this post accordingly, as the email chain, photos/videos, and testimonials continue to collect.
P.S. Don't fall for fake reviews - like those from new/never used Google accounts, without words/photos, posted on the same day in bulk, etc. Stay sharp, and best of luck in your apartment search!
