The Duck

"The Duck is a smart, rustic bistro which sits within the grounds of a grand country house, next to a superb kitchen garden which informs its menu. Sit on the wonderful terrace with a glass of wine and dine on unfussy, global cuisine." - Michelin Inspector

Fantastic Night at The Duck in Marlfield House The setting is gorgeous—cozy vibes with a nice mix of rustic and chic. From the get-go, we knew we were in for a treat. The food was absolutely delicious. The fillet steak was perfectly cooked, and the fish dish was fresh and full of flavor. The chips were crispy, and the sides rounded everything off nicely. Cocktails were a highlight too—I had the ‘Slutty Duck,’ and it was as tasty as it was fun to say! The service was friendly and quick—almost too quick, if I’m being picky. It would’ve been nice to have a bit more time to chill between courses, but it didn’t take away from a lovely evening. All in all, a fantastic spot for dinner and drinks. We’ll definitely be back! Beautiful lunch at the duck restaurant today. Fantastic service and delicious food. Unfortunately it was spilling rain when we were leaving so didn't get to enjoy the garden and surrounding area. But we will be back.

We had a delightful meal here on Sunday 29/06/25, it was a very warm day so we opted for a table on the terrace in the shade. Paul the waiter was very attentive and quick with a joke which I really appreciated. We had some lovely starters, a lovely prawn dish and a beetroot salad for the wife. for mains I went for a cod curry which I have to say was delicious as was the wife's choice of pork. The service was excellent and the ambience was just perfect. Will definitely visit again soon. Pat & Val

Celebrated our daughter's First Communion at the Duck, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel incredibly welcome. The surroundings were absolutely lovely — elegant yet relaxed, with a charming ambiance that made the occasion feel even more special. We enjoyed a beautifully presented two-course meal at €37 per head, and it was excellent value. The food was delicious, with fresh ingredients and thoughtful preparation evident in every bite. Everyone at the table was impressed! A special mention must go to our waiter, who was exceptional throughout the afternoon. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind — he made sure everything ran smoothly and added a personal touch that really stood out. All in all, it was a memorable day made even better by such a fantastic dining experience. Highly recommend for any special occasion!

Enjoyed a delightful lunch at The Duck with friends who came over from Brazil. The food was not only delicious but also beautifully presented. I opted for the fish cakes, paired with a vibrant and flavourful G&T. The experience extended to the flower garden, where we took some memorable pictures. I'll definitely be returning for a dinner date.

Extremely disappointed with the food , plate was covered in oil I can still taste oil the next morning even after brushing my teeth twice. Brought it to their attention, staff apologised but didn't really care. Won't be revisiting

Firstly, the building & setting itself is stunning & really well restored. However, the 2 course for €49 is simply not worth it for what you get. I had a starter of 3 meatballs followed by haddock (2 small portions) & skinny fries. Nothing special about it that would suggest the high price. Many of the other items on the menu had a supplementary charge. It just doesn't add up. More annoying was the music, some tacky loud pop covers playing that just don't match the aesthetic whatsoever. Whilst the place is beautiful & the staff friendly, it's simply just not worth the money.

Yelp
My partner and I went to The Duck restaurant for dinner because we were staying at Marlfield House, and overall, it was one of my favorite meals in Ireland. We ate at The Duck because the hotel's more fancy restaurant was closed on that day. But no matter, we certainly enjoyed our meal here. It was great food and a very casual setting. The menu is very seasonal and farm fresh, so the dishes that I have will probably not be the same ones that a different diner would have now. But I will say that the seafood soup was absolutely delicious and the best meal I've had in Ireland. Creamy but not overpowering with lots of different types of seafood. It's exactly what you would want from a chowder. Everything was delectable here. And the service was very friendly but not intrusive. We had a great meal.

Yelp
We spent the afternoon here for my Mum & Dad's 50th wedding anniversary and really enjoyed our meal. There was a good selection of foods, they cater for vegetarians and glutenfree. I am sure if you let them know in advacne they can cover other dietary requirements too. The surroundings are beautiful and the staff were very pleasant too. We'll be back!
