The Duke of Cumberland Arms

What a lovely gem of a pub. We like to visit Midhurst and found this pub for lunch after our walk and its tucked away surrounded by wonderful views in the hills and valleys in this tiny village its a very old pub 1722 it dates back and you can tell from the room beams that its seen a lot of history (if only the walls could talk). The staff were lovely and friendly it was really busy in the main restaurant part but they coped well and we had a starters and mains and I had oysters which was great to see on a menu and they were delicious and we had burgers and risotto which again was great. Homemade freshly prepared beef burgers and plenty of it and the risotto was very tasty and well portioned. You could see its a popular place and we're glad we found it to revisit in the warmer days to sit outside to look at the great views surrounding it.

After travelling for over 45 minutes for an anniversary Sunday roast we were anticipating an ‘excellent meal’ as promised via text; “a spectacular roast” “and generous portion size”. Upon arrival, we found out that our seat had been relocated to the busy bar area, which we were not made aware of. Having requested to be moved, we were sat down and told the meal would be with us soon. Over 30 minutes later our food arrived cold and underwhelming not to mention meat was overcooked and tough (Trimmings arrived 5 minutes after). Aside from one helpful waiter who assisted us, the general staff were cold and unpleasant. We will not be returning!

Had an absolutely perfect lunch here, really beautiful scenery from the patio, could have stayed there for the day! Such an unusual pub, it's like stepping back in time, in a good way, wonderfully quirky in a pleasantly natural way. Could not wish for better food and staff, a lovely, friendly old fashioned friendliness that is missed out on in so many other places.

Had a sunny weekend lunch for two, and sat outside overlooking the gorgeous view of the rolling treetops. Food prices are sightly high but you are paying for quality ingredients, good service and the setting

This is a stunning pub, set in an amazing place with great views! Decor is amazing and food is superb. Staff are friendly and engaging and knowledgable and honest in their advise. We went in a Friday lunch and food was good, only issue was they seemed short on staff, it took ages to get drinks and food!

Absolutely stunning pub in a beautiful setting, with stunning views and gardens. We only stayed for a couple of beers but the selection was decent and the food being served to the other tables looked amazing.

Delicious food with fantastic service to match. Visited The Duke of Cumberland with a group of friends last weekend. The food, atmosphere and service were all top notch. Special mention to Beth, our waitress, who was absolutely wonderful and so attentive throughout. Even persuaded us to go for dessert (although already rather full) which did not disappoint. We will definitely be returning!

Overall: ★★★★☆ Food: Pub Food A strong four stars for this country pub. A very small bar area with a few tables with a larger seating area to the rear which serves as the main restaurant. Service was alright but particularly good from the manager. Food came out well presented and portion sizes were decent. They brought out some little ‘amuse bouche’ for the table which was a nice touch. The rolls weren’t all the but the schooner of vegetable soup and Marmite butter was really nice. They have a small but good wine selection by the glass. What I liked: • Really lovely, professional and friendly manager (Sat 15.2.25) • Nice wines by the glass • Reasonable price point • As it was full the atmosphere was good What I didn’t like: • No dogs in the main restaurant area • Neither the skinny fries nor triple fried chips were crunchy at all despite specifically asking the waitress and being assured they were. The former weren’t particularly skinny either. Do I recommend going? YES Will I go again? YES Was it good value? SO SO Price Point: $$

The best English roast on the planet. No exaggeration. The staff amazing, the service fantastic and the food exceptional. So grateful to our London hosts for driving us out to experience this lovely slice of heaven in the countryside. A must for tourists (like us) and a hidden gem for everyone in the UK.

WOW Individual hunches of ribbed bone in beef is spectacular. Juicy fat on the outside and tender pink meat. Self Carved at the table is like being at home with best friends and family but with no work. The roast potatoes are incredible crisp and fluffy inside, vegetables perfect and OMG Gravy to die for. Chicken Pork Fresh fish and more Simon and his team are flawless in service and the atmosphere wonderful. Location location location is superb. Great wine list and bar. Don't forget to start with a drink outside under ancient wooden gazebos with roaring log fires. Ponds streams and outdoor tables keep young ones entertained and wonderful for warm summers days. Best pub in the world.

Arranged with Emma at the Duke of Cumberland for our family wedding blessing and it was out of this world with a cake, drinks, huge slabs of beef and potatoes ! We had an incredible time ! Thank you for taking good care of all of us! We will remember it forever as time with our English family !

One of my all time favorite pubs. A local gem with an amazing garden that feels like a walk into the garden of Eden. Rolling green spring-fed brook where you can pick your trout for dinner and roaring fires on both sides of the pub for a cozy winter pint and good English meal.

Beautiful country pub in a very quiet village. Sit outside and let the world go by. Excellent for lunch - I haven't tried evenings so can't comment. Good beer, friendly welcome.
