Duncombe Arms

"Owners Johnny and Laura Greenall were sad to see the hub of their local village shut its doors, so in 2012 they bought it, smartened it up and reopened it as a stylish dining pub – and it’s been a hit ever since. It’s an attractive place with a delightful terrace and a neighbouring red-brick barn which houses luxurious bedrooms that look out over the fields. The gutsy, keenly priced cooking routinely shows the kitchen's deft skills, from the subtle spicing of a café de Paris butter to the luscious filling of a classic custard tart." - Michelin Inspector

Excellent stay. Lovely atmosphere. Friendly welcome on arrival, especially from the bar. Room was very comfortable with aircon and nespresso coffee machine and door onto patio with chairs and table.||Good table in nice restaurant in the evening with a welcoming and attentive manager. Excellent service from our waiter, Josh. Food was very good indeed. I had a Dover sole and loved it. Tastey breakfast.

What a find. Stopped here overnight whilst travelling. In our experience couldn't fault a thing. Food and service both excellent. Good choices for dinner, beautifully cooked, and a special mention must go to the breakfast also. Room comfortable, clean and very quiet. We will definitely return when in the area again. Thank you.

We had a wonderful stay here. Our room, (No 1, Plaid), was on the ground floor and had doors opening onto the garden, where we could sit in privacy and read in the sunshine. The beds and pillows are so comfy, and I am super fussy about this! The room was very spacious and quiet. The Bamford toiletries are to die for.|We had dinner each night of our stay and the food was very good on both evenings as was the breakfast. All the waiting staff were very helpful and switched on.|I would also like to mention a front of house member, whose name I have sadly forgotten, (Mirene? from the Phillipines). He was outstandingly helpful when my partner arrived with a minor injury and is an absolutely wonderful member of staff.|We so enjoyed our stay, and would recommend the Duncombe Arms wholeheartedly.

This was our second time we have stayed and dined here and will hopefully return soon. Another really enjoyable stay. Our room in the Walnut House was delightful and usefully located on the ground floor with access to a patio and garden for our dog and for easy transportation of luggage. Our evening meal was fabulous and we were able to dine with our dog. The tarte tatin is really good. The breakfast was great as well.

We had a really nice Sunday lunch for mother's Day. They accommodated an extra person with no notice very kindly. The food was excellent. The service was thoughtful and not overbearing. The decor was tasteful and I appreciated their reuse of materials like jars.

Had an absolutely stunning meal here last week. The food and service were both excellent and it's a beautiful cosy venue inside. Will definitely come back if I'm in the area again.

An amazing place to dine and stay overnight. The beautiful countryside views from our room watching the sunrise are wonderful. Dining here is amazing, a super a la carte menu and bar menu too. I'd recommend staying here. Super staff, very welcoming, helpful and friendly, thank you for making our romantic stay one to remember. 😁👍

Had the ribeye steak, very fatty, chips okay but nothing special, two small onion rings. The only thing that was special was the price,£40 plus a service charge. Overall a disappointment

Yelp
We were invited to Duncombe Arms to celebrate a 30th Birthday. Our group included 11 adults and 3 children. What a wonderful afternoon! Upon entering our private dining room we were welcomed with wonderful waitstaff, the girls were great! Our dinner choices included Sunday roast dinners ( chicken or beef) a roasted cod dish. Five starters incl chicken parfait, squash veloute and a roasted beets and goats cheese salad. Sweets included chocolate delice and apple crumble. Cheese course to follow. This was a special menu made for us. James is the manager and made our event wonderful. Want to celebrate a special event? Can't go wrong!

Yelp
Had a lovely night at this newly re-opened country pub. Very attentive staff and excellent service all round. The food was well presented and tasted A++. Highly recommended for a fab night out dining or just for a local pint.
