"What was your first impression? In a city where everything is shiny and never-ending new construction, The Dunhill flaunts its landmark status and rich history. Step inside an intimate lobby, where yellow walls and traditional furnishings lend inviting warmth. What's the backstory? The privately owned Dunhill is a member of the Historic Hotels of America. It opened right before the stock market crash in 1929 and has ridden the ups and downs ever since. How are the rooms?Recently renovated, the rooms seamlessly blend tradition with modernity. There is a crisp look and feel, courtesy of navy blue statement walls and intriguing (and colorful) artwork juxtaposed with traditional carpets and furnishings.  Is there a charge for Wi-Fi?Wi-Fi is free. What are our dining options? The Asbury, the hotel’s destination restaurant. The look is fresh and airy, with windows overlooking the street and for-sale local art hanging on the walls. The menu riffs on Southern traditions—sweet potato and poppy seed pancakes in the morning, sticky biscuits with goat cheese icing at night. Sunday brunch is packed. How's the service? The service is warm and caring, with unusual niceties like freshly baked cookies every afternoon and a wine social on Wednesdays. Be sure to catch a ride in the hotel's authentic London cab. What's the crowd like? You won't find anyone checking in here just to snap selfies. Instead, The Dunhill attracts grown-ups who prefer substance over style, ones who seek comfort and quality above trends. What's in the neighborhood? The hotel is one block from the Blumenthal Center for the Performing Arts. Anything else we should know? There's no on-site gym, but guests have free access to the nearby YMCA. What's the bottom line? This is a lovely historic alternative in a city known for big, new hotels." - Nancy DePalma

Stepping into The Dunhill Hotel in Uptown Charlotte is like entering a bygone era of elegance and charm. The staff's impeccable service made me feel truly valued, and the bartenders at the lobby bar crafted cocktails that were nothing short of perfection. My room was a sanctuary of cleanliness and comfort, featuring plush robes, luxurious Beekman toiletries, and a Keurig coffee maker for fresh morning brews. The strong water pressure in the marble bath was invigorating, and the nightly turndown service added a delightful touch. While the vibrant city sounds on Saturday night were noticeable, the provided earplugs ensured a peaceful sleep. The Dunhill seamlessly blends historic charm with modern amenities, making it a must-stay destination in Charlotte.

I hosted a baby shower in the Churchill Room at the Dunhill and stayed the night and I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff at this hotel. Everyone from the front desk to the catering staff to the bartenders were amazing. We knew the staff by name within an hour of being there and they were all so friendly and helpful while during the party. Food was fabulous for the shower and the restaurant. I love the small, intimate feel of this hotel. The rooms are well appointed, not over the top but have everything you need (best makeup remover towelettes). Location is easy to get to off the interstate. The only negative is the street noise late into the night. I’m surprised that the city allows the loud cars and racing to go on but it seems like a regular occurrence. Can’t beat the price and the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff.

So, I went to see the Savannah Bananas play at BoA Stadium on Saturday night. The room was cozy, but there were a few things that could be better. The main issue was the noise from outside. You could hear everything - people fighting, police cars, loud music, and racing cars. It was so loud that it kept me up all night! I guess that’s why they have earplugs in the bathroom. I wish they had two sets, since it’s a two-person room. Another problem was getting to and from the parking garage to the hotel. When you first get there, there’s no sign to tell you how to get to the hotel. And the elevators in the parking garage don’t usually work, and there aren’t any stairs going up into the garage. You can go down, but not up. I had to climb over the parking garage cables to get to my car! I know the parking garage isn’t the hotel’s fault, but they’re kind of in a symbiotic relationship. You can’t have one without the other. Overall, for what we paid for the room, I have a hard time justifying the cost. It was a very small room, very little protection from outside noise, and issues with parking would make it difficult for me to stay here again.

Google
Overall for the price I couldn’t justify staying there again. The bed was not very comfortable and the room did not have a fridge. The fridge was not a huge deal but for well over half the price you can stay at a holiday in with a more comfortable bed. Additionally the hot water was out during our stay and we were told by the desk clerk to just be patient. Did not get to shower for the last 3 days of our stay.

Google
Could be great but service is very immature. They do not have the professionalism I would expect of a top hotel. For example, the desk staff and lobby staff just ignore you and don’t wish you good morning the way any other professional hotel chain would. The rooms don’t have a safe and in some cases also have no refrigerator. The hot water system was not working this week, per a friend of mine who was staying there. The restaurant for breakfast is good though.

DO NOT STAY HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET BEDBUGS||We just stayed here over the weekend since we were attending a concert in Charlotte. We woke up on Sunday (5/4) after staying only one night in the hotel to both me and my partner having multiple bed bug bites on our ankles. We went to the urgent care later that day to verify, and the doctor informed us they were indeed bed bug bites. He gave us a prescription to make sure the bedbugs weren’t still on/in us anywhere that they had bitten us because of this. (I have attached a photo of the prescription for the bedbug bites.) We told the hotel staff upon checkout of the issue and asked what they could do to help. The girl at the front desk could not provide any help or answers, and instead said that there was no one there that could help us that day, but that management would call us on Monday to follow up on the situation. She also said “we don’t have bedbugs” although, again, the doctor confirmed that that was indeed the issue. She did not offer any bags or anything for us to put our clothes in, even though that is standard procedure for bedbugs, and was overall very unhelpful. It seems she did not pass the message on to management as it is Thursday afternoon now (over four days later!) and we have yet to receive a call back. We had to take all our clothes to the laundromats as well as purchasing a steamer for the items that could not be washed in the machines (like shoes). So far we have had to spend over $90 on cleaning our items from these bed bugs. We have also had to throw away all of our suitcases and bags that we brought with us since we could not wash them. It’s very disappointing that no one from the hotel has reached out to us or given us further details on what to do since we were promised a call back. This was supposed to be an enjoyable experience that we paid for, but instead, WE GOT BEDBUGS FROM THE DUNHILL HOTEL IN CHARLOTTE NC. Again, the hotel has not reached out to us with any information at all and has not confirmed if they have sprayed the room for bugs. DO NOT STAY HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET BEDBUGS!!!||Management will NOT notify you if you inform them of bugs in the room, so it seems that they don’t even care enough to check up on these claims- that’s probably how the bedbugs got there in the first place if they don’t go verify serious claims of this sort. It’s so disgusting.

Positive: Great location. very quiet smaller hotel. Lots of history here. very nice. Great food at Ashbury. Walking distance to plenty of places around the city. Negative: door keys are tough. cards and controls need to be updated. Had issues the whole time we were there.

My wife and I recently had a very nice one night stay at the Dunhill in Charlotte. The parking deck was very convenient and the location was perfect for us to attend a special event in a park early on a Saturday morning. Our room was quaint and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. After seeing some reviews with guest complaints about street noise, I was a little apprehensive about restful sleep. The street noise on this night was never an issue and we didn’t hear anything that disturbed our rest. Our dinner in the Dunhill’s restaurant was also very good. After the meal we walked around uptown Charlotte and found a great cookie place just a block or two away from the hotel. The few interactions we had with staff were very pleasant. Based on our experience, I would recommend the Dunhill to anyone visiting Charlotte.

Yelp
Nice place to get away for a minute. Calm and clean and pleasant. Will definitely go back.

Yelp
Got to stay during the mid-week. The location is perfect to be near anything you want Uptown. It is a vintage hotel, so it's cool for the experience. Good night's rest in a comfy bed. It was good for the most part. Just got a strange vibe from the staff of looks that came across.... "What are you doing here?" Also very weird that they knocked on the door at 6 pm to ask if we needed housekeeping.

Eric Z.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful vintage early America type hotel. Rooms are small and dated to the time period of old Charlotte but beds are soft and linens soft. Water pressure in shower is great. Elevators and entrances are useful and easy to find. Ask to stay in room 906 fir spooky night of ghosts ;-) PS take one of the ghost tours that meet at the Dunhill nightly.

Yelp
Hubby and I had a wonderful 3 day weekend trip to Charlotte. Our stay at The Dunhill was amazing!! It is a lovely historic hotel. The furniture and decor create such a relaxing ambiance. Cold iced water with fruit and cucumbers in the lobby along with an excellent selection of organic botanical teas or coffee always available to refresh. The staff was friendly and very helpful with suggestions on things to do. A special thank you to Shana and Micah!! Definitely hope to return to visit as the hotel was extremely convenient for walking to lots of arts and restaurants and not far from light rail station at 7th street.

Yelp
Arrived at this hotel around 1230 at night. The guy at the desk was steadily bashing American Airlines. We had a voucher from American Airlines because our flight was canceled. He told me that he gave us a "upgrade "to a king size bedroom on the Fourth and fifth floors. If that was the upgrade, I would hate to see the regular room. The place is a historic hotel and on the smaller side. It had some features however, I don't think the interesting features outweigh the lack of amenities. They tried though, the bed was fairly comfortable. They have zero handicap access in this hotel. No one mentions this in advance. We came in with wheelchair and had to walk down a dark alley to go in the back to get in. They had no rooms with bars in the shower so my mother couldn't use the shower. They put bottled water in your room and then have a sign on it that says it's five dollars per bottle!! I guess this isn't the Hilton SMH. It's in a relatively quiet corner of downtown, there wasn't anything within walking distance except the children's museum which was across the street. The furniture was kind of mismatched. I didn't try the TV, but it was perhaps a bit smaller than average. The room was adequate for me as I don't need the handicap access, but it was very difficult for my mother. The thing that just put a bad taste in my mouth was the Clerk, A sweaty middle-aged man straight up bashing American Airlines the entire time we were waiting in line to check in. The African-American guy at the door was super sweet and nice. I mean if you don't want all that guaranteed business from American Airlines then just say no but don't sit there talking garbage about an airline like they're causing you trouble because they're sending you business. Sheesh. The room was clean. The bathroom was clean the hallways were slightly worn and dingy. I would not stay here again, but some people I think may like the historic nature of the location and if that's your thing then maybe this would be a good place for you.

Nora B.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel! I love the historic vibe. Very kind and helpful staff. extremely welcoming and nice to us! Parking is either self parking or valet which is right behind the hotel. Location is wonderful! Our stay was a 1 night date night to see a performance at Blumenthal performing arts center. We went to Crave dessert bar which was walking distance.

Alyse J.

Yelp
The hotel was cute. Nothing fancy, but it was older and chic. The staff were very polite and accommodating. The rooms were clean and didn't smell any way one way or another. The bed was comfortable. The shower water pressure was perfect. I love that they had a few cookies and tea/coffee out late night. The hotel is attached to a restaurant too. Great stay!

Yelp
The Dunhill is a Charlotte Staple. This is an old hotel, the oldest in Charlotte and has just gotten a facelift on all the rooms. The best thing about this hotel is that it is quiet. My friend rented the penthouse to get ready for her wedding. The space is a one-bedroom apartment with two balconies. This room begs for a staycation, with breakfast on your little patio. There are many reasons to choose the Dunhill if you are visiting Charlotte, first of all, you can't beat the location and if you enjoy a cocktail or two, they have a quaint, little bar in the lobby that serves delicious, balanced cocktails. And the restaurant The Asbury is a Charlotte favorite, it isn't just a hotel restaurant. And I didn't mention the view! Some rooms have gorgeous views of the city. If you enjoy, old school hotels with modern amenities, the Dunhill is the place for you.

Yelp
I had a lovely experience. I ordered the Gnocchi and deviled eggs for room service, and I had the Salmon, Smoky Old Fashion, and the Lemon Posset for dinner with a group. I stay at the Dunhill hotel for two nights and was greeted with this lovely Charcuterie board upon my arrival.

Crystal H.

Yelp
The staff was amazing and the hotel is so quaint and cute. It was a perfect stay for my husband and I away from the kids!

Yelp
Nightmare from start to... now. Our room had an AC that made a loud thumping noise and wouldn't cool the room from 73 degrees. When I called, instead of apologizing or saying saying she'd do something, the front desk clerk told us they were a boutique hotel and the AC didn't work well and they had no more rooms (note: we never asked for a new room, just wanted someone to fix the loud thumping noise). She said she'd call with an update and we went out for the evening. We figured worst case we'd just turn off the AC. Came back, went into our room and saw NOT OUR STUFF. Turns out they moved us, didn't tell us, and didn't rekey the room. They moved us four floors up to a room that registered a balmy 82 DEGREES. It also had no outlet to plug in my husbands CPAP machine unless he chooses to sleep on the floor or we disassemble the bed to get to the outlet buried behind it. Not sure what genius thought the solution was to sweat us out upstairs and touch all our things without even attempting to ask or notify us. Now waiting for the "offsite manager" to call. Kind of like waiting for the clerk to call before making the "executive" decision to move us to a room 10 degrees hotter than the last one and sell our room to someone else. Oh, I was in there long enough to see they provided a nice fan to whoever is in that room now. No fan for us, though, at 82 degrees and rising. Worst service in my entire life - no offense to the gentleman who now is working at the desk and got stuck dealing with the aftermath in lieu of the so-called "offsite manager" who never called us. I am pretty convinced she doesn't exist - CHRISTY, still waiting for that call... Current status 82 degrees (vs 72 in original room) Roaring noise from cars and crowds in a holiday weekend as they had to pry the windows open to keep us from suffocating (vs original thumping noise which seems almost melodic by comparison)

Yelp
At $324 a night this hotel is gorssly overpriced. The hotel is an older property desperately in need of renovation. The rooms are small and have few amenities. The room was so small that the desk chair wouldn't fit under the desk because the bed was in the way. There was no mini-bar and the bottled water was $5. Again, at a high-end hotel, this is a give-away item. At $325 a night I expect fine sheets, a free breakfast and updated bathroms supplied with high-end cleansing products. I found none of those. This hotel should be priced at $125 a night for the value given. Save your money and go to the Westin instead.

Betsy M.

Yelp
Yes, five stars all the way for me. I stayed here for 4 nights and loved every moment of it. From the amazing service to the charming vibe of this historic hotel, I am at a loss by the mixed reviews. They are currently going through renovations on some of their floors but even the work crews were super friendly and nice. Service: From the moment I arrived every single staff member I encountered was so nice and welcoming, always checking to see how I was doing or if I needed anything. I absolutely loved the you man who was walking around checking on the different floors and doing housekeeping/cleanup along with the young lady who does turn down service. Common areas: So charming and like stepping back in time, they stay on top of the cleaning, which has to be particularly hard during a renovation. The bar and restaurant were fantastic as well, as I had a great meal at The Asbury one evening. They only had one operational elevator during my stay but that was no big deal, as there are only 60 rooms I believe. Room: I was on the 9th floor and loved my room. It was clean, super comfortable and adorably decorated. Sleep quality was on point and I loved the robes, toiletries and the Ghiradelli chocolate they put on the bed for turn down service. My only disappointment was not having any ghost encounters as I was reading that room 906 is haunted along with the floor. Parking: There is a very easily accessible parking garage with reserved parking spots for guests right as you come in off of 6th. You get a ticket, and you MUST take it in and get it validated to pay the $23 self parking fee. It is $2 bucks more if you do not know that and just stick it in the machine upon exit without validation. I did not know that for three days, but the staff was wonderful and took the 3 days parking off of my room since I had paid directly. Location: right downtown within walking distance of so much. I loved walking a block each morning to get my Starbucks fix. I would totally stay here again if I am ever back in Charlotte.

Christine L.

Yelp
This place is amazing!!! From check-in to dinner, and the fabulous room! Everyone was beyond amazing and kind, and super helpful and knowledgeable!!! Nic was one of the best waiters we've ever had! He couldn't have given us a better dining experience! He was so polite and fun! Not to mention, everything on the menu was amazingly delicious ! We loved every minute of our stay!!! Wish I could give more stars!!!!

Latavia C.

Yelp
Yes, sometime you just have to make other plans. Due to Covid-19 we had to come with some fast to celebrate our anniversary. Dunhill staycation was right on time. Girl, like me always looks for this best bang for our buck. As, you know parking downtown can be costly. This package came with complimentary parking that was very convenient to the door without walking a block with heavy suitcase. Love this, it's the small things with details that get me excited. We also had two options add-on amenities that came with the package. We chose the evening tea with dessert for two. Great way to recap the day before a nite nite drink or two with the $50 hotel credit. Hi. I know a great day when I see one. Everyone was very nice and knew if was our Anniversary. Cool right.

Eric L.

Yelp
I wanted to give the Dunhill 5 stars, but a rude housekeeper who pounded on our door even though the do not disturb was out prevented me from doing that. Other than that unfortunate experience, our stay was wonderful. Love the restored vintage hotel. Rooms are classic but fully functional with good beds and great climate control. Beautiful bar in the lobby with a very friendly bartender. We also enjoyed a nice room service breakfast in the morning. Because of Covid, they don't valet park--but there is a huge garage right behind the hotel.

Vinay P.

Yelp
A terrible dated place! Do not stay here We checked in the hotel the evening of the game, dropped off our bag and went to the game. Came back at 1am in the night. When we got back, the room was very warm, lowered the temperature but the AC/ heating did not work. We were unable to get any sleep and we kept thinking the room will cool down till 3 in the morning. After that it was too late to call anyone as we had to leave at 7am. It looks like the hotel management does not even check if basic appliances and lights are in working condition. The room itself is very dark with very few lights. To top that, out bedside lamp on one side was not working. There are no charging ports or electrical outlets on either side of the bed. There is old Ihome on one side of the bed that I moved to the other side to get a charging port. The furniture is very very old with scratch marks and chips. No safe to keep your secure items. Walls are extremely thin. You can hear conversations in the hallway and in the next room so clearly as if it were happening in your room! Was a bit scary as I heard crying twice and then realized it was from the adjoining room! All in all a terrible experience, not worth the money. Do not stay!

Lee L.

Yelp
What can I say about this amazing hotel? From the very first moment that we walked into the beautiful lobby, the receptionist to check us in was vivacious and friendly. She was totally professional and helpful. We checked into our beautiful room. Which had two windows that looked out over the beautiful city. The bathroom was marble with the best shower I have ever used at a hotel. The flow of water was amazing. The bed was super comfortable. And we really enjoyed our four night stay If and when I return to Charlotte, I will only stay at the Dunhill. , I was kind of looking for the ghost experience as well since I understood that it was supposed to be haunted, but the only thing that happened during our stay was my cell phone got unplugged twice. I really don't think it had anything to do with ghosts. Or did it?

Amy O.

Yelp
I selected this wonderful hotel because I love both history and ghost stories. This place is really lovely and I have found all of the staff members I've come into contact with are very friendly and make you feel right at home. I would highly recommend staying here and if you are like me and love a bit of spookiness, ask anyone who works here - everyone has had at least one interesting story!

Bob S.

Yelp
Great location and some good people that work there. I made my reservations a couple months before my trip, and to my surprise, they added $100 to my second night (Sat). When I inquired at checkout, I was first told "Weekend nights are more". When I informed her that I stayed Fri and Sat night, and that both those nights were weekend nights ... and that I made reservations long before that did not include the extra $100, I was told twice "We reserve the right to change prices without notice." Also, for the first 12 hours, the water was rusty and smelled. I finally let it run for a full 30 minutes and the yellowish color disappeared. Other than that, It's a cool spot with nice people working there.

Rick D.

Yelp
Everything started out fine, room is great front desk staff was very good. Then it went to crap. Front desk guy asked me time for romance package 639 pm it showed up at 5 pm. Went to dinner and the associate manager dropped the ball and forgot to make our dinner reservations at The Asbury and even called me back and asked is it for something special? I said in fact it's my wife's birthday! I will take care of it and we will see you then. Went down for dinner served by Justin(awesome) but man I had to say it's for my wife's birthday unfortunately with her sitting here. Now I am pissed. "You had ONE JOB" and you frickin blew it. If it were up to me we would not be back, but I am married. 3 stars only due to the fact the room is nice and front desk was awesome and Justin is great!

Joshua B.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars for our experience at this hotel, I would. It was the absolute worst. It started when I pulled in the parking lot and the gate opened without giving me a ticket. The front desk told me I would have to pay for a $25 lost ticket fee to get out even though we never lost the ticket or were given one. We checked in without issue and got to our room where we found it to be 78 degrees even though it was 50 degrees outside, and heated air was being blown into our room. We notified the front desk and the young guys were very nice, but they said they had so many complaints, they had no idea what to do. We checked in late, 12:30 AM, so we didn't want to have to find a new spot on a Saturday night. We agreed to stay, but the night would be compensated. We went back to our sweaty room and opened the bathroom door to find a half inch of water on the floor and the roof dripping constantly. One of the elevators also didn't work. We had enough and called the front desk. They said they couldn't do anything as they were already overbooked, and their manager wasn't calling back. We told them we were leaving and they understood. We were left to find a hotel at 3 am on a Saturday night after we had this place booked for a few weeks. Avoid this place if you can as there has to be better options in the area. This was truly the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel.

Angela M.

Yelp
I'm still in the middle of a lengthy check in. Almost 45 min. waiting for the helpless bobbleheads at the front desk to try & locate my reservation. There was no attempt to welcome me, offer a seat or any sort of hospitality while I waited. I completely realize reservation systems can be unreliable at times, but even a small gesture would've gone a long way to improve my first impression. Hallway had a musty or smoky odor. I was about to turn around & complain about it but thought I'd check out the room. Too tired to haggle with the unhelpful staff by the time I got checked in. Fortunately, my hotel room was clean and comfortable upon arrival. Nothing too impressive, though. My travel planner made the reservation, so I didn't have any high expectations. I like historic boutique hotels, so that was a plus. Nonetheless, it seems this property is really missing out on a great opportunity here in the middle of the Charlotte action. Staff and decor is really lacking in charm and warmth. Seems like the Dunhill is operating as a mid-level hotel while trying to pretend it's a top-tier property. The lifeless Front Desk & Manager made it clear that I was lucky to receive a complimentary upgrade to a deluxe room which has more space. If that's true, then I definitely pity the people who get the non-deluxe rooms I booked originally. It was just me alone, staying 1 night, so the room met my needs. Any longer stay with more than 1 person would have been a tight fit, by American standards.

Farh E.

Yelp
I loved my stay here! Pros: 1. Amazing location- close to bars, restaurants, and cute cafes 2. Free wifi 3. Vintage decorations/cool atmosphere 4. Complimentary breakfast: 6am-9am 5. Coffee and tea downstairs at all times 6. Soft queen beds 7. Decent size room in my opinion 8. Bar downstairs Con: 1. You have to pay to park- garage is located at the back of the hotel

Kelly C.

Yelp
Was recently introduced to the bar at the Dunhill by a friend and absolutely loved it. It's a comfy neighborhood bar that easily doubles as a classy hotel bar. There are local beer options, fancy cocktails, and delicious wine, plus there is a lot of seating so it's ideal for crowds large or small.

Angela K.

Yelp
Great overall experience: CLEAN bedroom; complimentary hot breakfast in a beautiful charming dining room with windows to the city; turn down service with chocolates and two bottles of water, really nice touch! Location It is conveniently located on one of the main streets and walking distance to everything: restaurants, night live, shops and attractions Parking There is a parking lot right behind the hotel, and self parking is complimentary. They also offer valet parking. When we arrived we didn't see the valet person, nor was there any person to help us with our suitcases. Service The lady and gentleman that were at the counter when we checked in weren't very friendly nor helpful. Neither was the lady that checked us out. From the reviews that I read this isn't the norm though. Room Our room number was 206. Beautiful corner room with windows to the city in the bedroom and in the bathroom, but there is no balcony. Nice old world charm decor. The room is spacious without being large. There is enough lighting and enough outlets to plug your devices. There is a desk and one chair; the Keurig coffee maker is on the desk. It has a TV. There is a full body mirror in the room. There is also a trash can in the room aside from the one in the bathroom (this sounds basic but it is so useful yet many hotels only supply a trash can in the bathroom). The closet is small and there are two bath robes, NICE touch, yet no slippers. There is an iron, an ironing board, and a luggage rack. It has a mini fridge. There are two queen beds, comfortable and clean, with all white bedding, using the double sheet system for the bed cover, which is more sanitary. There is one night table between both beds and one night table lamp with two separate light bulbs, one for each bed. There is a phone, an alarm clock/radio, pen and note pad. Bathroom The bathroom is medium sized and comfortable. There is a hair dryer. They provide you with very nice toiletries, in a medium size. There is a bar behind the door for the folded towels and two hooks to hang your towels close to the shower. The shower has a regular shower head and no handheld hose. The curtain rod is curved, which gives you more room, and the shower curtain is the Hookless, with that snap on inside cover for cleanliness. There is a soap holder in the shower, which sounds basic, but some hotels do not have one.

Yelp
We had an absolutely lovely two night stay at the Dunhill. The hotel is located right in the middle of all the action, so we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. Rooms and beds were on the smallish side, but the beds were comfortable and the shower was roomy with good water pressure. There was a refrigerator stocked with complimentary water and the complimentary breakfast got the job done. What really made this a 5 star experience though, was the staff. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Take Pete for example. Pete is the resident bartender and socialite extraordinaire. 90% of the patrons greeted him with a hug and a kiss. Not only does Pete make a great drink, he makes great conversation. He also introduced us to several locals who were able to give us insider information on what to check out around town. Plus, he remembered our names and drink preferences. It's little details like that, that make a big impression.

Yelp
We finally got over to the bar/lounge area at the Dunhill. The environment is very nice and relaxed with plenty of seating options. We ordered the Beetnik cocktail, which was very refreshing and almost too smooth :) The bartender was very friendly as well. This would be a great place to stop by for a drink before or after going out in Uptown.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel! I love the historic vibe. Very kind and helpful staff. Mike Andrea was specifically kind to us! He helped us plan our stay and was extremely welcoming and nice to us!

Yelp
While the Dunhill itself was a good stay, it was the hospitality from John the bartender that really put my stay into 5 star range. He was kind, made great drinks, shared great facts about Charlotte and provided the highest level of hospitality. I would certainly recommend this hotel again, but only STRONGLY if John is there to greet them with a story and a drink.

Yelp
A date night away, happiness! My husband & I always stay at a "chain hotel" when traveling with our kids so he booked The Dunhill in hopes of changing it up a bit. The Staff at the Check In time were great. Quickly got us checked in & sent us on our way. The room was ok. Historic feel to the decor. The noise from the street was a bit much. Walk in shower with the tile was nice. Came down to hit a few places downtown. Same front desk men were still there & we asked for a location. They were unsure of the location & hopped online to look. It was literally next door to the Hotel. It would be helpful if the Staff was a little familiar with the area to help guests. Make suggestions for those who are from out of town. Breakfast was the same or less than we get at the "chain hotel" we frequent. Eggs, bacon, oatmeal station, blah, blah... Overall, it was an ok stay. The price was more than the value of the stay. We'll try anything once.

Yelp
Updated modern rooms in a historic building located in the heart of Uptown Charlotte. Friendly and helpful staff who are eager to please. Great location for smaller more intimate catered corporate dinners and events. Food was excellent.

Yelp
Stayed here when we went to a Panther's game this past December. Nice hotel. Convenient.but not much going on. Bar was never open.

Yelp
Our family recently stayed at the Dunhill for a wedding weekend. The family and friends had about 10-15 rooms in total at the hotel. I have read the reviews and quite honestly I believe the reviewers were staying at a different hotel than the establishment we stayed at for two evenings. Our experience started out at check in where the pricing for the room varied, even for the same type of room. They seemed to have six different prices for the rooms which was astonishing for a group that was booking that many rooms. While pricing for most things today seems upside down, there was no way in my opinion the size or the condition of the rooms warrant the price we paid I looked at the pictures of the rooms on the website and quite honestly the rooms do not look anything like they appear on the website. The furnishings are a combination of 1950's furniture with a mixture of nixed up pieces of old wood furniture. We supposedly at a queen size bed and if that is the case then the mattress needs replacement. The lobby furniture was old and worn with the cushions basically gone. I felt as if I needed to apply an ample amount of antibacterial lotion on my hands after sitting on the furniture. The staff was generally pleasant but didn't take the issues we spoke to them about with any sense of urgency or ownership. There is no way I would stay at this establishment again in the future and hope you take this review seriously.

Yelp
Charming spot. Their service was great from the moment I booked the room. The staff really did everything they could to make our stay special and make us feel like valued guests. This made it much easier to ignore a couple maintenance issues. Great location, and parking is pretty easy, too. Just remember to validate!

Yelp
This hotel is in the perfect location. Upon my arrival, I was pleased. The smell of the lobby alone made me happy. My check-in was quick and extremely pleasant. The room was clean and decorated just right - simple & classy. There are so many 4 star restaurants in walking distance. You really have a wonderful variety of cuisines at varying price points. Other than wanting it to be king sized, I wish I could've packed up the mattress and bedding. The complimentary breakfast was also very well displayed and convenient. I would stay here again...just because.

Yelp
My wife and I have stayed at the Dunhill multiple times in the past, in fact it's our "go-to" hotel anytime we're in Charlotte. The staff has always been extremely friendly and the rooms have always been great. There's a great restaurant and bar attached to the hotel which I highly recommend (Definitely do brunch, the food is great. My wife says the Spicy Bloody Mary's are amazing). To touch on a few things I saw in other comments... 1) "The rooms are small" - Some of them are. We've stayed in large ones and small ones, and they've all bee nice. The larger ones do have much nicer bathrooms (walk in marble showers and very spacious sink areas. The large ones tend to be at the end of the hallways. 2) "The decorations are outdated" - I laughed at this one. It's a historic hotel...it's "outdated" on purpose. The decorations are American / British themed. 3)"The hotel staff isn't nice" - I'm sure this can vary by situation, but we've never had a negative experience with the staff. 4) "You have to pay for parking" - This is true, and it's not exactly cheap. It's between 20-30 dollars to park in the parking garage (shared public garage). This is NOT a valet charge, we always park our car ourselves. 5) "Rooms can be noisy" - This can be true. I've noticed that it's the bathrooms that can be noisy, meaning that I hear other people showering / talking / etc while i'm in the bathroom. I've never noticed it outside of the bathroom. 6) "The Location is great" - It's uptown, so that's true. It's only a short walk from the epicenter.

Yelp
This is a nice hotel right in the middle of all the action, on the same block as the Capital Grille. Lot's of nice comforts, really nice rooms, great bar in the lobby, and big fluffy bathrobes hanging in the bathrooms! I loved the service provided by the front desk and by all the employees while there. I will say that it is a little confusing trying to park there. you can pull up in front of the hotel to unload your things but the parking is in the garage behind the hotel so if you miss the street then you have a decent drive in order to backtrack. Other than that I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Cute, boutique hotel that is reminiscent of a bed and breakfast in the middle of the city. This hotel is incredibly clean, cozy, and rich with history. And while my room was not flashy in any way (my room reminded me of a nice guest room of a cottage) I have to admit that the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept on at a hotel! Additionally, the location is incredibly convenient since you're in the heart of uptown Charlotte. If you're a frequent hotel hopper, keep in mind of a few luxuries lacking: 1) Dated temperature control - old school dial that was difficult to adjust kept me sweating at night. 2) No room service or mini bar, but there were a few complimentary waters and sodas in the fridge that were welcome for guests to enjoy. Overall, I have no complaints with service and my experience, but since I stay in so many hotels I think I had higher expectations and anticipated a personal touch that may not be present at some of the larger hotels.

Yelp
I really enjoy this hotel. I've stayed here a few times now and it's very comfortable. The first time I stayed, I told the front desk it was my first time in Charlotte and they gave me a corner room on one of the top floors so I could have a great view of the city. This time I'm in a regular room -- view isn't as nice and the bathroom is much smaller than the last time, but the room itself is nicer, with a couch and coffee tale so I don't mind. Super helpful staff too! The only reason I took off a star is because I do this some things could be a little cleaner. The bedding, sink and shower were spotless, but sometimes the towels are ratty and the curtains have a stain or two. Not a huge deal, but it's still something I noticed. I'll stay here each time I come to Charlotte.

Yelp
This hotel is a classic. This small little hotel sits quietly on Tryon Street and has a nice selection of rooms that are tastefully done. Add in a staff that is helpful with advice for the what to do in the city or will just leave you alone if you just want to lock the door of your room and check out for 24 hours. When looking for lodging in the center city don't count out the Dunhill....great little place in a great little city.

Yelp
Very nice hotel! A friend of mine stayed here last night & had me come through. I had always wondered about this hotel, since just based on the outside, it looked as if it had been there for a while. And it has! Since 1929... The rooms are very nice & spacious, with nice, comfy beds & a neat seating area. The bathroom though is what's really nice! The shower is HUGE walk in, with tile & an all glass door. It also boasts nice flat screen tvs. A nice bar area awaits you downstairs in the lobby. This hotel is definitely "old world charm" with a touch of modern.

Yelp
Great historical hotel conveniently located, great customer service, super clean, well kept, charming hotel. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in the uptown Charlotte area. The rooms were the perfect size, good mattress and bedding. Bathrooms were huge. Most room will have a good view of the neighborhood. The bar and restaurant have good service and very accommodating. There is outdoor seating as well during good weather. They offer a classic car shuttle for guests as well. There are plenty of other really good restaurants, bars and entertainment within a short walking distance too. Have fun here and enjoy!

Yelp
Hotel was old gave you a 1960's feel. We got upgraded and the room was decent, had complimentary water and chocolate. The room even had robes and an umbrella! The bathroom was small but got the job done, I liked how the bathroom had a full body mirror on the outside of the bathroom door which i liked. Idk why people are saying the complimentary breakfast was awesome because all I saw was a box full of bread and muffins, bananas, and coffee. Front desk receptionist was super nice.

Yelp
This is a quaint historic hotel that has been a part of Charlotte since 1929. I enjoyed staying here though I wished I'd brought ear plugs since I could hear a lot of the street noise outside from our corner room. It was still nice to have our wedding here and then go right upstairs to our room- no driving! We left first thing in the morning for our honeymoon which was a snap since uptown is close to the airport. WEDDINGS: Also, for anyone considering having a wedding here... Modern Salon is in the Hearst Tower just a block away from the Dunhill. My bridesmaids and myself had our hair done here- they did a nice job and once again- no driving! Oh! AND Flowers Plus who I highly recommend is right down the street (in one of the Wachovia Buildings). They do the Dunhill's flowers and will work with you so the Dunhill's flowers will coordinate well with your wedding flowers. Joel was wonderful to work with. OUT-OF-TOWNIES: One of the things I appreciated most was the hotel's location. It's within walking distance of everything from the Mint Museum of Arts and Crafts to the Bank of America Stadium. The main library is diagonally across the street. It was really great for guests coming in from out of town who didn't know their way around the city which can sometimes be a bear to navigate for the newcomer. DINNER: There are many restaurants just outside the doors if you do not wish to eat at Monticello, the hotel's restaurant. But I would recommend staying for at least one meal. It's delicious! AFTERNOON TEA: As good as the restaurant is, I do not suggest having Afternoon Tea there. Unless they have drastically improved since last year, there's nothing good I can say about it. The service for the tea was subpar, to be kind. The sandwiches were on the stale side. The server didn't know that desserts were included and when we finally did get them they were only so-so. The whole thing left me feeling like I had been an inconvenience to the staff since they had no clue what they were to do for a tea. BACK TO DINNER: But dinner? That's a different story. They do have that cinched up beautifully.

Yelp
This is the perfect get-away hotel... If you live in the area or are visiting from anywhere around the world, this place is perfection! The rooms are quaint. Not to be mistaken for small but they're also not huge, empty spaces. They're just perfect. The bathrooms are updated, the beds are dreamy and the views are wonderful. Best of all, the hotel is in the middle of everything. We've only done single-night stays (staycations) since we're local but it's a wonderful get-away. Paired with their restaurant, The Asbury, it's an amazing experience. Their bar is a highlight of our stay. We used to visit Pete but now we have Una to take care of us. It seems to be a local hangout but still very inviting. This would be the perfect anniversary/special occasion place for an evening, a night, a weekend or an entire week!

Yelp
This review is for the bar in the lobby and not a hotel stay. If you're going on a date and you'd like to enjoy conversing with your date in an adult atmosphere instead of shouting over shitty music then you've made the right choice. A comfy chair, a high top at a bar (only seats seven), or a front room sitting room experience are all here. The drinks, food (from The Asbury) and service are all top notch. The atmosphere is unpretentious but still refined. The food is approachable without being simple. The drinks are made with aplomb. The service is attentive and courteous without being overbearing or pushy. In short a lovely place to start or end your evening. Kitchen closes at 10p, FYI.

Yelp
Definitely 4 stars. It's a very cozy hotel and the staff was great. It's in a popular location. Rooms are small for the price and the decor is very outdated however it's kinda supposed to have this feel/style. The bathroom for Queen premiere was very nice and updated though! The products in the room are super nice. I used to work beside a gift store and they sold the same soaps they have at Dunhill and they are expensive and great quality. FYI the bed creaks because they are old...so keep that in mind...and the queen bed seemed like a double bed size. Soooo yeah. ;) Great views and walking distance to some of the best places in Charlotte!! Would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
We have stayed at the Dunhill several times in the past. We will not again after this last experience. We check in and are assigned a room. We unlock the door only to find it occupied by other guests! We go back to the front desk and the lady says she is in training and doesn't know how to resolve the situation. I ask why can't you just look up in your system and find a vacant room. She says she has to call her manager. We have dinner reservations so I leave my bags and she says she will have it sorted out when we get back. She did not. Instead of finding another room they moved the other people out of the first room we were assigned only to find there was no running water in the bathroom. Okay well what about a different room. At this point she was more interested in copping an attitude than helping and says maybe the guy who is coming to relieve her can sort it out. It took him a while but he eventually assigns us a different room. We are glad to get in a room finally only to find there was no running water in that bathroom either. I understand there were some issues with utility work affecting the water but that doesn't explain the simple inability to assign an unoccupied room and being willing to help a guest having a problem. When we checked out the front desk guy said the manager would be getting in a little later and he would have him call me. I never received a call.
