"The Dunlin is the newest addition to the Auberge Resorts Collection, located in the South Carolina Lowcountry on the banks of the Kiawah River. This resort features 72 rooms and suites, a spa, a pool, and three dining options. It offers a variety of activities that emphasize the natural beauty of its surroundings, including excursions to see local marine life." - Elizabeth Rhodes Elizabeth Rhodes Elizabeth Rhodes is a special projects editor at Travel + Leisure, covering everything from luxury hotels to theme parks to must-pack travel products. "Set along the marshy Charleston coastline about 40 minutes from the city center, this newest hotel from Auberge Resorts Collection won me over in a weekend with 72 coastal‑grandma–feeling rooms and suites—airy porches, gabled roofs, shiplap wood, walls in mint green and bright whites, and so much wicker—plus a bygone, laid‑back low country gloss on every amenity. From here we took a sunset cruise through the estuary surrounding the property, where water that looked as flat and still as a big puddle gave way within minutes to depths with pods of dolphins, tall grasses, and great islands of fresh oysters. On property, I noticed a petite pool called The Cove styled like a 1950s swim club with scalloped, mint‑colored umbrellas and stately rattan loungers, a poolside bar mixing spritz‑forward drinks so you can sip to your heart’s content and still be decent for cocktail hour, and The Aster spa in its own cottage across a footbridge with a menu that integrates top‑notch Biologique Recherche products and honey from local apiaries." - Jessie Heyman

"A laid-back luxury resort on Johns Island within the Kiawah River community that emphasizes nature with 20 miles of waterfront and trails and abundant marshland wildlife. The 72 cottage-style accommodations—designed by Amanda Lindroth—feature Southern-style porches, wicker and textured linen accents, and some suites with large living rooms and river-view soaking tubs; the River House has a wraparound porch. Dining focuses on wood-fired Southern fare using local purveyors, a destination spa offers high-end treatments, and guests can enjoy fitness classes, wellness workshops, fishing, kayaking, and a kids’ Minnows Club." - Devorah Lev-Tov
