The Best Hotels in Amsterdam

"This place is intimate, exclusive, and quietly detached from the city’s hurly-burly, yet in the heart of the historic hotel district, with club-like armchairs and a fireplace in the lounge, and a sleeker dark-marble bar. Rooms—some large with canal views, others cozier under attic beams or facing onto a courtyard—are interspersed throughout two august canalside buildings and individually decorated: lush red and copper, perhaps, or cooler white, gray, and peppermint green. In Vinkeles restaurant (well-spaced tables in a brick-lined 18th-century bakery), chef Dennis Kuipers serves Michelin-starred new Dutch cuisine, with affordable options from the same kitchen in the bar/brasserie alongside." - Amber Port

The Dylan

"How did it strike you on arrival?Pass under a gray, 17th-century archway facing the Keizersgracht and through a quiet courtyard to access The Dylan. The partially hidden location gives this luxurious hotel an intimate vibe. The Dylan somehow manages to balance a central location with a relaxed take on privacy. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Although each room layout is distinct, the decor can be grouped into three different themes. Serendipity includes rich fabrics in various shades of brown and gray, Luxura combines copper tones with elegant leather headboards and mother of pearl accents, and Loft has bright white walls, beige details, minimalistic furniture, and original wooden beams. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that worth noting? Some rooms boast Illy espresso makers, while all stock Frette bathrobes and James Heeley toiletries. Room service and food: Worth it?Chef Dennis Kuipers oversees Michelin-starred Restaurant Vinkeles. The French menu exhibits global influences, with dishes like John Dory with hazelnut, and quinoa flavored with mustard and citrus. Anything stand out about other features? Whatever stuck with you.At Brasserie OCCO, you can sip a Matured Manhattan made with bourbon, The Dylan’s homemade vermouth, and bitters. Enjoy it at the curved bar or at one of the marble tables—it's a lovely experience. Bottom line: worth it, and why?Ideal for the discreet traveler who still desires to stay in the center of it all." - Meredith Bethune

This Amsterdam MICHELIN Guide Hotel Has a Two Star Restaurant Inside

"The Dylan, a five-star boutique hotel located in a 17th century structure with three on-site restaurants, including Two MICHELIN Star Vinkeles. It turned out to be simultaneously far more indulgent (and more intimate) than I could have anticipated—in short, the perfect hideaway." - Ashley Simpson

"The Dylan Amsterdam Situated canalside in the heart of Amsterdam , The Dylan is a 40-room boutique property that feels more like the flawlessly designed home of a jet-setting friend. On the outside, it evokes the Dutch Golden Age, but the interior takes on a swank, modern bent with splashy art, cool mirrors, and sculptural furniture. The public spaces nail it on all counts: The check-in desk is calm, the terrace garden is lovely on sunny days, and the lounge is warm and welcoming. Instead of the sometimes stuffy high tea ritual, there is daily high wine service, where a voguish crowd enjoys a selection of wine and nibbles on tapas-style bites. Vinkeles, the signature French restaurant, is Michelin-starred but has a relaxed design anchored by elements of the bakery that once inhabited the space—like 18th-century bricks, ovens, and wood floors. The Serendipity Collection is a collection of 16 rooms and suites redesigned by Dutch designer Remy Meijers. They have a sleeker, more neutral palette, compared to the eclectic style of the original rooms. The quirky and historic details throughout the hotel make The Dylan feel very specific to easygoing Amsterdam. By Annie Fitzsimmons"

Amsterdam ! We really enjoyed our recent trip to this great city. We stayed at The Dylan for 3 nights.||The pros: |1) It super well situated. I had walked by it a few years ago, so I knew that to be the case. |2) Very clean, beds are comfortable, the food is very good (and so is the wine list). |3) The concierges are knowledgeable. ||The cons:|1) Breakfast is served in a room overlooking the terrace, but it’s not possible to be on the terrace (only lunch and dinner). And the window in that dining room/bar don’t open, so it get’s stuffy (but remember, the food is very good).|2) The staff is generally very young (read inexperienced), so the level of service is not consistent, although they are always very polite. |3) The décor on the website and in the rooms (we had two of them) doesn’t really match. I felt, especially in mine, that there was a little photoshoping going on. ||Good to know: |1) They accept large group. We had a wedding that took over pretty much the whole hotel. |2) Also, the last night, they left a little patisserie in our rooms while doing the turndown. It was made with almond paste. My son is severely allergic, so EpiPen ++++. He should have checked (I did giving him hell for it), but with nuts allergies so prevalent, I’m not sure I would recommend that as your turndown treat at night. ||Lastly, the two museums were perfect ( the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh), the electric bike rental company (Black Bikes) offered great service and the self-guided ride to Volendam was our highlight.

This was a beautiful little boutique hotel in a great location on a canal. Great staff, comfortable room, good dining options. Gym was fine although missing heavy weights for my husband. Excellent concierge service who were helpful in organizing airport transfers, tours, museum tickets, restaurant bookings. Definitely recommend and would return.

Wonderful hotel and staff. Hospitality and sincere warmth of staff was excellent from checkin through check out. The concierge supported setting up private walking tour as well as dinner at Ate’ prior to our trip and their email responsiveness was great. Ate’ was a fabulous and unique dining experience. Service at breakfast and drinks in OCCO was alway friendly and responsive. Room and location of hotel are top notch. Great hotel and happy we had the opportunity to stay!

What's not to like? It's clean, lush and high end. The staff are very well presented and attentive without at all being in your face and all seem to be enjoying working there. The food is lovely, all requests are accommodated and the rooms themselves are tidy and cosy. Sure there are some steep stairs between the bathroom and bedroom but it's Amsterdam! Don't go there if you have weak knees!! I'll be back. The Dylan was my home away from home.

I rarely ever write reviews but I felt compelled to do so in this case. I booked this hotel for a business trip and noted it was supposed to deliver an excellent experience. Stayed here 6-9 May 2025 Overall very disappointed and underwhelmed by the experience: the The good: Location is great, staff very friendly and professional. Rooms very clean. HOWEVER, 1. the room layout was terrible bordering dangerous. I stayed in room 11 which had two levels (bedroom upstairs, bathroom and entrance downstairs). The stairs in between were narrow and very very difficult to navigate, every time I went down the stairs I was concerned I might trip fall and injure myself so much so that every visit to the bathroom became an annoying arduous trip. 2. Upon checking in, I was asked to pay 2500 Euros despite having fully paid the room when I booked it, when I questioned this the staff said it was an ‘error’ and I only needed to pay city taxes and leave a deposit of 200 euros per night, totalling 750Euro, a pretty big difference compared to the 2500 Euros I was asked for. 3. Breakfast was very underwhelming 4. There was no lift access to my room. While the staff were kind enough to carry my luggage up to the room, I had to carry my stuff down the stairs when I was checking out and I really felt uncomfortable and worried about the risk of falling and injuring myself I was never informed about the room layout nor given the choice prior to checking in. I am returning to Amsterdam in 3 months however I would never ever again stay in this hotel.

We got married at The Dylan in May 2024, and it was nothing short of magical. From the moment we booked, the team made us feel so special — truly like royalty. Every detail was so thoughtfully taken care of the entire weekend. One unforgettable moment: during our outdoor ceremony, it started to rain — and almost instantly, the staff appeared with umbrellas for us and all of our guests, as if they’d been waiting in the wings. It was seamless, gracious, and just one of many examples of how attentive and prepared the team was. Elise, the events coordinator in particular, was incredible — from start to finish. We’re still laughing at her valiant (and very entertaining) attempt to quieten our wonderfully rowdy guests for the champagne toast introduction! If you’re considering getting married in Amsterdam, do it at The Dylan. It was the most joyful, unforgettable experience, and we only wish we could do it all again!

Google
Such a beautiful hotel, with excellent service and unique rooms. They were all so lovely and ultra considerate at every turn. It was my husband’s birthday and they surprised him with a gorgeous chocolate cake and card. We don’t drink alcohol, and it was removed from the room, and the restaurant downstairs knew this when we dined and automatically offered us alternative drinks! Impressive. The location is also perfect, central and walking distance to most things. And the restaurant and bar downstairs is a must! So beautiful!

Google
It’s a small but elegant hotel. On our floor there were only 3 rooms! The staff is wonderful. They helped us with directions, taxi and random questions. The food in the restaurant is amazing. Beautiful presentation and tasty. The location is very near major sites and you can walk to many places. Stay there! You’ll love it

Yelp
We stayed here for five nights during Amsterdam Pride. It was a lovely oasis away from all the fun / craziness. Perfectly located and easy to get to on foot. (We walked after arriving at Central Station.) Room was cozy, super quiet and lovely. The only thing I'd change about the room (Room 8) is how external light from the night courtyard lights comes in over the top of the drapes. (The room was never completely dark at night.). Other than that, the room was perfect and very well serviced throughout our stay. Food and drink were awesome. Breakfast options were tasty and plentiful. We had dined at Vinkeles on a previous trip and it was amazing. We were sad it was closed this time. All staff were lovely especially Renee at the Front Desk. We look forward to staying here again on a future trip.

Yelp
We love the hotel so much ! The rooms are lovely and well appointed. They are quite large for the region and well stocked with many amenities. The staff makes you feel right at home. The concierge service is A plus. They helped from the time of booking all through the stay. They provided great guides and wonderful suggestions. Truly the concierge team made our stay extra special. The hotel is in a great location and I would choose to stay here on each future visit to Amsterdam.

Yelp
This is one of, if not the best properties that I've ever visited. The rooms are perfect, the ambiance wonderful, the food delicious, and the staff "Top Notch"! American Express recommended the Dylan to us as a place to stay before our river cruise and they hit a "Bullseye". Please consider this great property when you visit. Ronald, Eddy, Scott, Reuben, and Vincent along with the rest of the staff really made us feel both welcome and appreciated. Ronald (concierge) is the best! Please trust his recommendations and enjoy his wonderful sense of humor!

Yelp
Dylan Hotel and the restaurant fair are probably the best thing going in Amsterdam. If you'd like fine dining you'll love the restaurant and if you'd like elegant quarters in an attentive staff you'll love the hotel it's absolutely perfect.

Yelp
Stayed at The Dylan for 5 days recently and it's such a cute, central hotel and the customer service is superb. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 is because the room was very general/standard small room, but everything else was amazing. The Dylan has great amenities such as a gym and high wine (instead of high tea they do high wine) and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful with bookings. With it being Amsterdam, the hotel also has a slew of bikes you can rent for $15 euro per day. One thing to note, you have to walk past the staff at the front desk to get into your room every time, and the hotel gate closes at night to where you have to be buzzed in by the front desk if you're coming in after midnight. So if you're in Amsterdam to party this might not be the hotel for you. They also have two incredible restaurants, one being a Michelin-Starred restaurant and the bar offers an extensive menu with salads, apps, and mains. With the great location, cute decor, extensive amenities, and incredible staff, the Dylan is a great option for a stay in Amsterdam!

Yelp
Luckily the noise mentioned in my previous review lasted only two (out of five) nights. I really do like this hotel and it's a great option for people visiting Amsterdam who aren't very budget-conscious. It's a shame my vacation was colored by this experience; when I checked in I even asked the name and contact info of the General Manager to express my appreciation for the hotel in person. In the end the gesture didn't matter as much, so I decided to just mind my own business. In all fairness chances are your experience WILL be better than mine, because all my previous ones were. If only the recency effect wasn't a thing...

Yelp
This hotel had good points and bad points. My travel agent had spoken several times with the manager Robert Van Rijsbergen, and I have been promised a room upgrade when I arrived. When I got there, nobody was aware of my arrival and the room I got was pretty awful. It smelled of sewage, looked into a wall, and had dangerously steep stairs. When I asked if there were any alternatives, they told me the rooms in the next category up were booked but if I wanted to move up to categories, I was welcome to pay €200 per night. What? I went ahead and did that just because I was scared of falling on the stairs in my room. The next room was very nice, but in my world when a hotel has one category booked they don't make you pay for the rooms that are open and being unused, even if they're two categories up. That being said, the remainder of the staff was just wonderful. One in particular named Sam, went above and beyond to bring something to my room. I would warn anybody with any sort of aversion to stairs they consider staying elsewhere. Granted, this is Amsterdam and almost everything is built up, but for anyone with a real hip problem or knee problem, etc. it would've been untenable.

Yelp
This place is very pretty. We only came in to order Hot Mint Tea and use the toilet. The servers were very attentive and very polite. The bathrooms are very clean and well maintained. To flush the toilet, you have to pull a chain from overhead. It was very retro.

Yelp
We loved our stay here and will be back!! Adorable decor, friendly staff and great location. Service: if I could give them ten stars, I would. We had to change our dates and they were so flexible and accommodating. Then generally everyone is so friendly and helpful. We think the people in AMS are very nice but the service here is excellent. Location: they can brag there is a Michelin star restaurant in the hotel. Vinkels! Try it. Also very central to the city and everywhere you want to be. Amenities are great and they also offer 15 euro 24-hour bike rentals. Good deal! We will be back.

Yelp
The Dylan is a great place to stay when in Amsterdam. I was in one of the Loft Suites and it was absolutely gorgeous. I really enjoyed the architecture of the room, being at the very top floor with the exposed wood beams. The room allowed for lots of natural light. My only complaint was that there wasn't much light in the bathroom area where I would get ready. However, they did have a lighted magnified mirror which was helpful. The bed was extremely comfortable with the pillow top for my mattress that I had requested in advance. They were happy to oblige me. The hotel also provided me with converters for electricity since I had forgotten mine. Excellent service! The Dylan is in a central location and I found it to be conveniently close to all of the places I wanted to sightsee at. I rented a bike and cruised around the city as if I were right at home being completely immersed in the Dutch culture. The hotel has a private boat canal tour available. The captain/tour guide was extremely nice and informative. Overall, it was a treat to stay at The Dylan. They definitely rolled out the red carpet for me. I'd be happy to visit there again and recommend it to my fellow Yelpers.

Yelp
Stayed at the Dylan a few years ago while visiting Amsterdam for another weekend with my husband. Everything about the Dylan is high-end and they look after the finest details. The things that stand out about The Dylan are the common areas and the service. The restaurant Vinkeles was awarded a Michelin Star in November 2009 and is well worth the visit. While we didn't stay there this visit, we did have "High Wine" (the better version of High Tea) this evening. The High Wine service consists of four wine pairings with amuse bouches style bites. Today's menu consisted of a New Zealand Marlborough White served with a shrimp salad. The wine was exceptionally bright and paired well with the shrimp (which wasn't spectacular, but good). The second course consisted of a Chardonay paired with pastrami topped with chinese noodle and a tangy sauce (quite enjoyable), the third course was the heaviest and consisted of duck breast covered with a light veal sauce and accompanied by artistically arranged green beans and small potatoes. The red wine was Spanish and by far, the best. Finally we ended with a sweet wine and a dish of strawberries covered in a Prosecco syrup and almond biscuits. While we were enjoying our menu, our neighbors at the next table ordered a dessert which included Macarrons and four small shots of various flavored ice creams. We couldn't NOT order it. It did not disappoint. My mouth was pleased. As usual the service was impeccable. As for the rooms...they're okay. They're much nicer than what you would typically find in a higher end hotel, but certainly not as nice as they could be for 550 Euro+/night. Another thing I really like about the Dylan is that they have bikes to lend. One thing you should never do is visit Amsterdam and not ride a bike. It is the only way to get around this beautiful city. My husband calls The Dylan an oasis of calm.

Yelp
The Dylan is a beautiful hotel. Very clean and the staff is extremely accommodating. The hotel is in a great location. I would highly recommend!

Yelp
An incredible hotel -- elegant and upscale but not pretentious, with astonishingly helpful and courteous employees. Pricey, yes, but worth the expense.

Yelp
Beautiful presentation & excellent service, unfortunately the food was not up to Michelin * Caliber.

Yelp
I work full-time. research, save my money, travel and hope to have what will be an exceptional experience and adventure. In most cases it is...thus I feel compelled to share online. The Dylan is ONE of those amazing experiences. To be straight forward, it made me feel like a ROCK STAR. First, I have never walked into a hotel where I felt that every aspect has been exceptionally planned and artistically placed. On top of that, they are playing groovy music that just makes one want to "love the one you're with!" I have stayed at the Dylan 3 times. Each time, I have had a different room and each time the room has been unbelievably different. I am not talking the bathroom is on the left. I am talking one room was black with mirrors strategically placed around the room and the other was white, like I was in heaven. If you are a bit avant-garde when it comes to art; you like adventure, then you will be very surprised and forever love the Dylan. 100% recommend it!!!!!

Yelp
Review for the bar specifically - honestly, wasn't wild about the drink options OR the service, but still the cutest and coziest spot for a nice ambiance and glass of wine (or bizarre cocktail, the options weren't really too appealing). A cute fire piece to add to the ambiance, and a great neighborhood where you aren't mowed over by bicycles and puff coats (well, as much) - would def stay here next trip to Amsterdam, and recommend the bar for ambiance alone!
google avatar

Sharon M.

Yelp
What a beautiful and charming hidden paradise! Amazing rooms, decor, comfort, food and service. Rooms have everything you can possibly need and then some. Hotel is centrally located and is on the canal. In here, it's all about the details. I have stayed at many different hotels in Amsterdam but this one is by far the best, much better than the Pulitzer which is around the corner. We highly recommend it!

Yelp
Excellent service, clean room, and very helpful staff. A big downside was that they hadn't turn the AC on yet, and it was quite warm in up in the "loft" area of the room where the bed was. So warm, in fact, that we had to call concierge at 4 AM and have them bring in emergency fans for us to use. But they did, and with a smile. Also, I wasn't thrilled with the bedroom and bathroom being on different levels, especially given the very narrow staircase you had to traverse to go up and down. That said, a little more research on my part and we could have had a one-level room. The hotel is in a great area, and we were able to walk to just about everything. Not a cheap stay, but if you don't have an inside recommendation and want to be sure you don't end up on a lumpy mattress in a dump of a hotel, the Dylan won't disappoint.

Jill C.

Yelp
While the Dylan is truly beautiful in it's architecture and style, there is a pretentiousness to its staff. They seem to forget they are in the business of hospitality. In addition, for the price point there is way too much noise. We could hear everything our neighbors said and they weren't yelling.
google avatar

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
We recently spent a week of vacation at the Dylan in mid October. We chose the hotel due to its location in the canal ring and proximity to many local sights. This boutique hotel was very charming and staff were friendly and very eager to assist us with anything that we needed. Although we didn't realize it when we booked the hotel the area was just perfect for our needs. Really pretty canal area, lots of shopping and restaurants nearby and within walking distance to the many museums in the area. It is also in walking distance to the central area, but it is in a much quieter area, which suited us well. We especially enjoyed some of the extra touches such as fresh flowers and fruit in the room and our daily treat with turn down service. Pleasant and cozy bar/lounge area where we enjoyed some tasty bar snacks and cocktails.
google avatar

Saul G.

Yelp
Great ambiance. I do a lot of traveling and staying in hotels. I love the lay out of this hotel, the bar, and the rooms. Lots of sunshine coming through the windows in the room I had. Both modern and traditional décor that somehow fit together really well. Good service.
google avatar

Yelp
If you want to stay in a luxury, designer, boutique hotel, The Dylan might suit you. The front desk was a little stressed when we were there, but the concierge, Michael Wigman was MOST helpful. He was great for restaurant recommendations and reservations, coffee shop info, as well as nightlife... The BAR is fabulous at the hotel, the room with the fireplace.. Luscious wood carving, supple leather seating, rich tones of gold and honey. The drinks were great, as was the caviar we had. The Michelin Star Restaurant Vinkeles is a favorite of mine in Amsterdam, so it's great it's at the hotel. The location couldn't be better, Set within the "grachtengordel", the city's central canal-belt, as well as in Amsterdam's chic shopping district, "The Nine Streets" ("De Negen straatjes"), The Dylan Hotel Amsterdam provides the ideal base for your stay in Amsterdam.
google avatar

Richard B.

Yelp
The Dylan is an extraordinary hotel is a great, central and walkable canal area in Amsterdam. The rooms and restaurants are 5-star. Service is exceptional right from registration on ... you are likely to see a few celebrities in the bar and restaurants as well. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Amsterdam!

Opus 1.

Yelp
Friendly and great staff! However:- Tired hotel!!! Very tired!!!! Essentially a 3 star hotel at best. Rooms are terrible. Sewer smell in lobby and hallways. Chipped walls. Dirty carpets. Looking for high standards or luxury ? Run for the hills.
google avatar

Raymond P.

Yelp
A beautiful boutique hotel a block away from the Pulitzer. Service was spectacular and the room was beautiful. I walked in off the street to see if they had a room for the following weekend and they bent over backwards to find me one. There was a convention in town and they were hosting one of the functions and yet they found me a room and made my stay wonderful. I can highly recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Super friendly staff, great location, delicious breakfast and well appointed rooms. Quirky enough to feel like Europe but with all the creature comforts in all the right places.

Yelp
Stayed at the Dylan last summer in September and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there, so much in fact that we are staying there again this coming July when we return to Amsterdam. The location of this hotel is awesome, shopping, museums, restaurants, cafe's, bars, clubs all located within walking distance of the Dylan. Its a small boutique hotel that has so much charm and character, the staff all very friendly and helpful and although the rooms were a tad small they were very well kept and modern. I love that you get a fresh jug of water delivered to your room every morning, trust me after a long night of drinking it was very very necessary lol. I am looking forward to returning in a few months.

Natalia G.

Yelp
We have been having " high wine" there with some friends. You pay 40 Eu per person and you get 4 wines accompanied with 4 small dishes of french high cuisine. Dishes were really creative and the wines were fantastic, perfectly matched. The atmosphere was very warm and relax, place is really cosy and the staff very friendly and helpful. It was a great food and wine tasting plan for a saturday afternoon.

Yelp
this boutique hotel is absolutely top drawer. set along the 17th century Keizersgracht canal in the chic 9 Straatjes(streets) district studded with cafés, galleries, shops and minutes to Amsterdam's must-sees. from the sleek rooms, breakfasts at the Bakery, lounging with the locals in the Long Gallery...really just the perfect base from which to explore. tip: go during low season sept-nov. best bang for buck. and less crowds.

C M.

Yelp
Amazing cty, great hotel, perfect location. Only problem is the British consigner is such a condescending jerk I regret spending $400 US a night here. Do over please.

Qype User (dudny…)

Yelp
Amsterdam is gorgeous all by itself, but staying in a posh hotel certainly helps. The Dylan is beautiful - refined, elegant, but really friendly. I stayed for two nights and never wanted to leave. It's an old building, a restored theater [I think] and the rooms are all designed differently and carefully. Our room overlooked the courtyard. We slept like babies in the big beds and gorgeous sheets, and washed up with the yummy Molton Brown toiletries. Oh, and did I tell you, we got the most awesome room service breakfast ever? Not the cheapest hotel but so worth it.

Qype User (bge2…)

Yelp
Beautiful - the sort of hotel where you have to force yourself to leave the room and explore the city. Opulent and luxurious rooms, superb service, a decent (asian fusion, from memory) restaurant and they'll lend you a bicycle. Highly recommended, so long as you can afford it
