Hyde Park’s longtime crowd magnet since 1945 still nails the hits: goetta bennies, towering Hot Mess platters, and friendly, fast service. Frequently recommended by Cincinnati Magazine and CityBeat as an essential neighborhood brunch experience.

This diner hits all the high notes and none of the low marks. Clean, friendly, fast, great food. This was a hit in our travels. Highly recommend the special toasts and the red, white, and blueberries dish. Don't skip this one!

Google
A throwback mid-century diner in Hyde Park Square area. How is it that I have never eaten here before? Arrived at 11:30 for an early lunch to ensure getting a table without a wait. Lucked out and got metered parking right in front. Service was friendly and my sandwich platter hit the spot. The lunch counter is cool and they even have shirts for sale. You know you are a special restaurant when you have your own merch!

Google
A sweet little place tucked in amongst the buildings located in Hyde Park was definitely a find!!! Just a small diner with alot of old charm. From the time we arrived to being seated was a short wait and the staff was so very friendly including our amazing waitress Tina which all made for a great morning. We enjoyed the Baked Caramel apple French toast, omelet w/ homefries, Steph's sampler and the Hot Mess. Highly recommend as your next breakfast hot spot! Arrive early as the line can easily run out the door and up the sidewalk, but it's definitely worth the wait!

Google
This place has a great diner feel and the staff made me feel like a local! Stephanie, the owner, told us all about the lore of the restaurant which was great fun. Our server Asia was super helpful and attentive. The food was so good too! We got the Hot Mess which was a pile of deliciousness.

Group of 16 of us post graduation. Wonderful meal. Excellent and attentive staff. Nice location. Anxious to return!

Google
Food was absolutely delicious and fresh. My son loved the "Red, White and Blueberries" which is croissant French toast. The service was excellent too! My son accidentally left his wallet and the manager kindly contacted his school. Since we're from out of town, he even mailed it back to us!

Google
I’ve been here a couple times and absolutely loved it. It’s a good place to get a hearty breakfast and a good cup of coffee. The food is good, the service is outstanding and despite the place being a bit cramped at time it’s cozy. I particularly recommend this one thing I had that I think was called the Flying Pig. It was ham and swiss on french toast, and while that sounds weird it was absolutely delicious. Definitely check this place out if you can.

Google
Burrito was the bomb. Marie was amazing and attentive even though there was not an open seat in the place. Highly suggest.

Yelp
The echo is a staple among the local Cincinnati folk, but does it live up to the hype? Ample street parking. Although busy, there was minimal wait on a Sunday brunch, quick service at the counter. Food was reasonably priced most dishes topped out at $14. Had their most popular "hot mess" which was just an amalgamation of different breakfast items thrown into a plate. Food took 20 minutes to come out. This dish was truly a hot mess but as a whole surprisedly went well together. The eggs were cooked perfectly as scrambled medium but unseasoned, the gravy was pretty bland and thick, the bacon was chopped and plentiful and semi crispy, sausage bits added a earthy texture to the dish. The potatoes were cooked appropriately but unseasoned. Overall, it was okay but I would try something else next time. Old fashioned diner vibe and was relatively clean. Personally there are better brunch places in Cincinnati, but if you're craving simple ingredients and reasonable prices I can see why you would come to The Echo.

Yelp
Always a must when I am in Cincinnati! The classic diner feel right as you walk in! We were seated right away and got a cute little booth in the back. The food was amazing as always!!

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch and it was exactly what we were looking for. Small local diner full of regulars and quick food. The dining area was clean and our server was friendly. The food was average but it's what we expected. The potatoes could have been better than typical frozen ones. The omelette was large and filling but I was disappointed that the sausage was more like ground beef rather than breakfast sausage. Overall, good option for breakfast on this side of town.

Yelp
I decided on this place due to its closeness and decent reviews. Upon entering me + guest were not greeted. They have a "sit yourself" policy. The 2 booths to the left were full of dishes and needed cleaning. About 2 minutes a server came from back to cash out her customer and stated we can sit next door, more booths ready 2 go. Ok we did. We sat at a large booth, big enough for 8 folks versus 2 but ok. A nice guy named Tyler arrived and greeted us and said he'll get our beverages then food order. His name should be thunderbolt. As soon as u requested something he acknowledged u and got item in less than 30 seconds. I ordered the create your own omelette(broccoli, turkey sausage, mozzarella cheese w/rye bread & home fries which was rather tasty & coffee. My guest had an omelette w/tomatoes, home fries & wheat toast which he liked as well. Tyler was the gem here. Would have given 5 stars but during busy time they didn't have someone to clean those tables costed them a star.

Yelp
Wonderful service, usually a line to get a spot but moves quick! This is a spot that's been around forever and will stay forever. Amazing meals!

Yelp
The Echo in Hyde Park Square is everything you need for brunch or a traditional diner ambiance. The Echo is the same as it has been, and you can expect the food to be consistently amazing! Cost effective and large portions! There are no reservations, it is first come; first serve. Sundays are very busy, and the tables turn quickly. The earlier you arrive, the less likely you'll have a wait. Arriving, download the Park Cincy app for on street meter parking prior to arrival. Parking lot - off Edward's, small entrance for parking lot, multiple non pay spots on street around the square Enter The Echo through two doors into a vintage diner complete with a horseshoe bar option Self seating until busy Full menu and cocktails available including mimosa buckets Must haves - lumberjack special, pancakes, egg white and spinach omelet Crave worthy - biscuits and gravy We did not order anything that we would recommend against! We ordered a total of 6 meals, 10 beverages, and were in and out in under 60 minutes Tea - options quite limited with paper bag tea. Of importance, Earl Grey and English Breakfast available Coffee - diner drip coffee was amazing, mixed coffee drinks were great! Cocktails - Bloody Mary was delicious, we sampled others *finding drink options was hard on the menu. They're in the middle of the menu! Service - incredible, fast, effective, and they all worked together so no food sat and waited for "your server" Restrooms - small. One stall with door, floors were somewhat slippery getting to them. I nearly fell so be aware Volume - talkative folks, no music, great in the early morning, quite loud as the morning wears on No dress code, but it's at The Square, so wear something that you won't mind running into most folks you know!

Yelp
Small, busy, diner-feel cafe full of locals and friendly service. Has great counter service and diner-style breakfast. I enjoyed a build-your-own omelette with fresh fruit and a side of good local conversation. I recommend this understated local diner for breakfast.

Yelp
My husband and I finally made it to The Echo for breakfast and were happy to stop in. This is a diner with booths, and a very big counter that is in the center of the restaurant. We grabbed a booth and took in the diner vibe. My husband ordered the Hot Mess while I settled on The Lumberjack. We were both eyeing the variations of Eggs Benedict on the menu too, but decided to try something only The Echo offers. The Hot Mess was loaded with home fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage then topped with gravy and cheese. My husband ordered an English Muffin for his toast, and an extra side of bacon which was perfectly cooked to a golden crisp. The Lumberjack was scrambled eggs with a generous mixture of goetta, banana peppers, and pepper jack cheese. The side of potato cakes resemble mini hashbrown squares. The side of gravy and biscuit rounded out The Lumberjack which was more than filling. The food was hot and tasty, I just found the gravy too thick, and not full of flavor like a country gravy or pepper gravy would be. The biscuit was buttery and pillowy which is a tasty bit of comfort that regular toast can't beat. The coffee was full of flavor, and the server made sure to keep it topped off when needed. Great experience and definitely now on our list for the next time we want to try something at The Echo.

Yelp
Love a good diner! The food and vibe was exactly what I expected--casual, no frills, friendly service and really good diner breakfast. I've been told the wait can be long sometimes, but my husband and I were sat right away at the counter. I think we can right before the breakfast rush on a Sunday. I was very pleased with the selection of breakfast items, and look forward to making my way through the menu over time. I got an omelet and was very happy! While simple, the home fries and toast actually stood out. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Great food, speedy and friendly service despite it being a busy Saturday morning! I always try to get goetta whenever I visit Cincinnati and this hit the spot.
google avatar

Colten G.

Yelp
If you are an ever in Cincinnati YOU NEED to come try the echo. Because I can guarantee you will not get much of a better breakfast than here. We came here both of the mornings we were in Cincinnati, and we are glad we did. We got the baguette French toast with eggs and home fries, and we were pleasantly surprised. The baguette French toast had the perfect amount of sweetness while not being overpowering, and eating a strawberry slice with a bite is heavenly. We love our scrambled eggs runny, and that is exactly how they make them. They are some of the best eggs I have ever had, and the home fries has the perfect amount of seasonings. And as far as service and atmosphere goes, it's just your standard diner. Well done, we were impressed!

Yelp
I can't recommend this place as a vegan/vegetarian. This place needs to get into this millennium and offer some vegetarian or vegan options. It's 2024. At least offer some sort of non dairy milk for coffee! Sheesh. Service was fine. Others seemed to enjoy their food.
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect breakfast spot. I love a greasy spoon and just a straight forward breakfast. The fancy brunch options at some places are neat at times but most often I just want my breakfast to be straightforward. We will 100% come back if we're in the area again.

Yelp
Great service, constant refills on drinks and coffee, food great, speedy. Cozy joint, you may have to wait a minute at the highpoint of breakfast or brunch or maybe sit at the bar. Baked apples 100%

Yelp
Our food was delicious and well prepared! They even had great gravy (southerner approved)! Service was fast and friendly. Cute diner with fun atmosphere. Bright and clean. We recommend

Yelp
Enjoyable breakfast with my Xavier student. Classic diner and good pricing. Friendly and excellent wait staff. Molly handled out order quickly and efficiently and always refilled the coffee at the perfect time. Will visit again for sure.

Yelp
What can I say about the Echo that hasn't been said before? Excellent service, excellent food, good value for the money. Owner Stephanie and manager Sean are quick to check-in and never hesitate to jump in and help when necessary. The only downside would be the challenge of parking at Hyde Park Square and the fact that this quasi hidden gem gets really busy at weekend brunch time. The seasonal Crabby Benedict is an excellent choice if you're looking for something a little elevated for breakfast. The Hot Mess, while looking a mess, is anything but. Looking for a quick lunch or breakfast The Echo is never a bad choice.
google avatar

Kyle B.

Yelp
We went to The Echo on Saturday morning and had a very nice time. There is typically a line waiting to get a seat, as they do not take reservations. It is first come first serve. When a table is open, someone from the staff will escort you to it. They do not keep a list of names. The regular Bloody Mary is outstanding. It's delightfully peppery. I got the Hot Mess breakfast and it ruled. Everything good about breakfast food on one plate. Definitely add hot sauce. Crab cake eggs Benedict were also good. The vibe is great for a greasy spoon. Lots of staff have worked there for a very long time. They are attentive but don't over bother you. Prices are very reasonable. The food took awhile to get to our table, but it was a busy weekend morning. Glad they were busy. Parking can be annoying, good luck finding a street spot.

Yelp
This place was recommended to us by a friend. Classic diner vibe. Retro looking but clean. The workers are the cherry on top. Our waitress, Anyssa, was VERY kind, attentive, and personable. An overall great worker. I got Bonnie's Bounty, which was delicious. My boss's ex wife got the club Benedict. That was also money. We bought back a breakfast burrito with sausage for our friend. He said "this ish is bussin", which I'm told is a good thing. Anywho, great spot!
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
Always a 5 star time. I always get the Steph's sampler with French toast instead of hot cakes, and get the potato cakes for the side
google avatar

Yelp
What a cute little diner! My daughter and I had lunch here recently and thought it was pretty good. We both ordered a meal that was much too large and neither could finish even half of our food. Since we were out for the day we couldn't take the leftovers and ended up wasting most of it. But we know for next time! My daughter ordered the Belgian Bird Sandwich and I ordered the Hot Mess. Both of us thought the food was good. The service was good too. Everyone was friendly. We'd stop back in.

Yelp
Found the Echo on a short visit to Cincinnati, and glad that I did. Classic diner, excellent service, great breakfast, good coffee (with lots of refills). It's very lively, even on a weekday morning. Highly recommend.

Yelp
After my first trip here I would've given it 4 stars. My wife and I sat at the counter top and had a nice breakfast. All good. Nothing special, but everything was good. Then...my kids and I went after a hike at Ault Park. The experience was perfect. Made me think of what it must have been like to go TJ diners 50 years ago. We had the absolute sweetest waitress. She made us feel special and was just an all around wonderful person. The food was also great. I really just love this place.

Jon F.

Yelp
Service: We went for an early lunch and waited 45 minutes for our food with no explanation until we asked. The table next to us came in after we ordered, received their food before us, and was finished with their meal before we asked our server what was taking so long. She mentioned their egg poacher wasn't working properly and they were fixing it. Then 2/3 of our party received our ordered but they were luke warm at best as they had been sitting for some time. Finally, after another 15 minutes, what appeared to be the manager came over to say it wasn't working at all and asked if we wanted something else. The person who didn't receive any food decided against ordering other food given the lack of service we received prior. Food: The good itself was a solid 5/10. Nothing stood out as good or bad.

Travis T.

Yelp
I love the Echo. One of the best breakfast spots in Cincinnati. It does get busy so if you get there mid morning expect a wait.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
Classic old-school diner with all the usual eats. The hotcakes are thick, fluffy, and BIG. Drip coffee that's a step above your typical diner. Try the rye bread and know that you can make breakfast here a boozy one. Helpful to know: it's a seat yourself setup and this place normally has a line out the door.
google avatar

Yelp
I decided to join a couple work colleagues to breakfast when invited. Usually their idea of decent food is some slop house. A dietitian could literally write a medical journal on their portion control. However when they mentioned the Echo I decided to give it a go. Nothing fancy here, just your ordinary breakfast diner. The waitress greeted us with a smile and promptly took our order. I was craving an omelette to satisfy my ketosis. I felt the Aztec omelette was put on the menu just for me. It came perfectly cooked and was absolutely delicious! I was very satisfied and glad I decided to join my so very sophisticated work partners. They completely redeemed themselves! I have to say in closing. I can see why the Echo holds high reviews. The food is good, service is friendly and fast and its a true neighborhood diner.

Yelp
Just moved her from Phoenix, az this was my first breakfast experience and I absolutely loved it. Service was quick, constantly asking if we needed anything, and they have a wide variety to choose from! The hot mess was totally worth it! Thx you !
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place. Strong local following. Get there early on weekends. The pic of the Hot Mess doesn't do it justice. Really good. Everyone enjoyed their meals
google avatar

Cynthia F.

Yelp
Kept hearing about the hot mess, so had to see what Echo was about. The Hot mess was the most unique item on the menu and it was good. The service poor. Clearly..... I had never been there it took 5 min before someone acknowledged us and said we can seat ourselves and it wasnt the actually hostess who was just staring at us. Overall food was just breakfast with the exception of hot mess .. the croissant french toast was a lil burnt.

Yelp
Many years ago my husband took me here bc I was homesick for a good old fashioned east coast diner. The main part of the interior matches it perfectly. Think the diners if the 50s. We came back with some girlfriends and I was not disappointed. I even got the same thing as last time: the Flying Pig Sandwich with potato cakes. Oh man, every ounce of that was what sweet and salty lovers like me dream of, but in brunch. A good amount of bacon, a thick slice of ham, topped with Swiss cheese and then sandwiched between two pillowy pieces of French toast, perfectly sprinkled with powdered sugar, served with warm syrup. Just thinking about it makes me wish I could go back tomorrow. The potato cakes are wonderfully seasoned. Think mini seasoned hash browns. I got the hot chocolate as well. It wasn't the best hot chocolate, but it was still good. What really impressed me was they serve it piping hot, pour it in a mug, and then you still have a good 3-4 mugfuls leftover. All 5 of us got different things - the Lumberjack, waffles, pancakes, Steph's sampler - everyone was highly satisfied. Debbie was our waitress and she was a real star - especially because it wasn't slow and our table had lots of questions, lots of preferences and changes. Everything came out 100% correct (which was a feat!) and our coffee and waters were refilled without us knowing.
google avatar

Kim S.

Yelp
After hearing raving reviews of this diner, I figured I'd give it a go. It has all of the classic breakfast staples on the menu. To get a little taste of everything, I got the Steph's Sampler: 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, sausage, bacon, and a side. I got the potato cakes for the side. Pro: the portions wre huge. Come hungry or be prepared to take home leftovers. The pancakes especially were very big and filling. Con: the taste was nothing to rave about. Everything was pretty bland. Potato cakes and eggs were cold, bacon was thin. The pancakes definitely needed some more salt or sugar in the recipe. The syrup lacked any ability to help add flavor too.

Yelp
Great food and service at this cozy diner! My son had the 'hot mess' and I had the corn beef hash. Everything tasted great and came out quickly. The service sets the standard. Would definitely grab breakfast here again!

Courtney K.

Yelp
Phenomenal breakfast, especially love the sausage gravy that comes with the lumberjack. Service was good and good diner environment.

Yelp
Breakfast and lunch are always great at The Echo. There is almost always a line to get in, but it truly is always worth the wait!!

Yelp
One of the best breakfast spots in Cincinnati. Never disappoints!!! Lifelong favorite for sure.

Yelp
Food is great. Service was wonderful. And it's like a cute little diner with more room for people. Great location. And turnover was quick.

Yelp
Good Food. BAD Coffee! Had breakfast with 3 others last Monday, 10/30. The food was good. We all had country style eggs, bacon/sausage with toast. The only thing that was not good was the horrible, "flavorless" tasting coffee. It tasted like re-used coffee grounds and diswashing soap. I suggest they clean their coffee brewing system with vinegar right away. Anyplace that prides itself on breakfast better have GREAT COFFEE IF YOU WANT REPEAT CUSTOMERS!

Big B.

Yelp
Pretty good. They don't have a southern style steak but I got gravy over chicken nuggets that was pretty good. Oj is kinda pricy
google avatar

Robert L.

Yelp
The only thing better than the food at The Echo is the team of people who make it all happen. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Blake G.

Yelp
Came in here for brunch and was not disappointed. Friendly service, decent prices, and diner aesthetics make this a must stop if you love diner food. It is also located in a cute neighbourhood in Cincinnati.
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite places always fresh and menu is full of seasonal items as well as the classics. Staff is always on point and COVID precautions are safe. Great diner style food after a night out!

Sonja H.

Yelp
Food was excellent and so was service. Great little diner with great choices!!! Best omelette I've ever ever had!!

Yelp
I found a hair in my drink, but other than that, the food was good! Would most likely reccomend to a friend.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this little cafe for awhile and finally made it in with some girlfriends. There was a line but it moved quickly. We tried the apple cider mimosa pitcher and it was great -- we got six full glasses out of it. The Belgian Bird Sandwich was excellent. I'm a huge fan of chicken and waffles and this sandwich put a fun spin on it with egg and cheese on top. The loaded potato omelet was good and the side of potato pancakes were nice and crispy. Definitely recommend this place!!

Monica W.

Yelp
Classic American diner with great food and service. We came for breakfast and were seated at the bar. Service was prompt, friendly and complete. Delicious food, never felt rushed. Will definitely come back!
google avatar

Yelp
My daughter and I had an early morning appointment in the Reading bridal district Saturday morning. We wanted to find a place for breakfast so we visited The Echo for the first time. Cute diner with great service. We were more than pleased with their menu offerings. We ordered The Business Man's Special and the Country Boy eggs Benedict. It was cooked perfectly and fresh. Food was good, coffee was hot, and service was excellent. Definitely recommend

Yelp
What a fabulous old timey diner establishment! Had a lovely brunch this week with some girlfriends. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. There aren't many places in Cincinnati that have that East Coast no frills diner feel and this is the closest we will get to it here! Our lovely server Debbie informed us that they make their pancake batter in-house from scratch so i was immediately sold. Had to have 'em. I kept it simple and ordered the Steph's sampler which included to pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, and home fries--all for only $12!! Inflation is real yalll and this place gives you a lotta bang for your buck! And when i tell you that their plain pancakes are absolutely delicious, take my word for it! I will absolutely be back for them. They were super gracious about changes i made to my order, like adding onions and cheese to my home fries (boss move, you're welcome), and i requested my eggs prepared over medium and it was just perfectly cooked. You would be surprised how many breakfast spots can't get that right but this one did! All in a great time at a great cozy little spot. Totally worth the visit and many repeat visits after that!
