"I moved to New York City in July of 2002, a time when your best resource for finding information on things was often not this new thing called “the internet” but instead some version of words on paper. I was new to the city and highly interested in restaurants, and I often found myself frustrated when trying to sort through my options. Why? Let’s take New York Magazine for example. Back then, their restaurant listings were relegated to the back of the book, and space limitations basically allowed for about three sentences worth of copy to summarize each place. And you know what made me crazy? The fact that two of those sentences were almost always devoted to calling out the credentials of some chef that I’d never heard of. That information simply wasn’t relevant or useful to me. I just wanted to know whether or not I should spend what little money I had on a meal there. Ultimately, that frustration is what led us to start The (Immaculate) Infatuation, and here we are today. What’s funny is that for all that has changed since 2002, when it comes to food media, very much is the same. Most of the people covering this stuff still focus on the “who” rather than the “why.” The “why” is what brings us to today’s review. I have absolutely no idea who the chef of The Eddy is. None. I don’t know where he or she trained, I don’t know who his or her mentors are, and I know nothing of the philosophy that this person brings to the kitchen. What I do know is that I love this restaurant, and I think you will, too. Here are the reasons. The Eddy is a tiny little place, but it has a ton of New York charm. This is one of those restaurants that you sit in on a snowy Friday night and order a second bottle of wine because f*ck it, you own this town, and nobody is waking you up early tomorrow. It’s also Perfect For any type of date, especially one with four people because you’ll be guaranteed a bigger table and a bit more room to make charming hand gestures (never fails). The good news is that regardless of where you sit, the service will be excellent. For an East Village restaurant, this is a pretty upscale experience, and the staff is trained accordingly. The wine list is serious but affordable and accessible, and the details have been attended to - like nice glassware and a bottle that’s served at the right temperature. As for the food, the menu is your choice of a $65 tasting or a la carte. We recommend the order-at-will approach, but the tasting is a good move if you want to spend less time thinking (and more time hand gesturing). You will see some bar snacks listed, but make no mistake - this menu is advanced. You probably don’t want to bring a picky friend, but you definitely do want to bring a friend that would be into eating some beef tendon puff or having some chicken skin mixed in with the burrata. Don’t have any friends like that? You need to start running with a new crowd. Maybe that’s what the back pages of the magazine are for. Food Rundown photo credit: Noah Devereaux Burrata, Stone Fruit, Yuzu, Crispy Chicken Skin, Anise Hyssop We love the mix of soft cheese, sour fruit, and meaty chicken skin. You will, too. photo credit: Noah Devereaux Beef Tendon Puffs, Charred Onion Creme, Trout Roe How good is The Eddy? They made me like the taste of beef tendon. Or maybe they made beef tendon not taste like beef tendon. Either way, good job. photo credit: Noah Devereaux Lamb Loin & Belly, Favetta, Panisse, Mint Lamb and mint are never going to be bad together. Whatever panisse is, we like that, too. A+." - Chris Stang

Very small but good spot. Drinks were excellent and the cheese board was good. A little on the pricey side.

I wanted to go to a place I haven't been to yet in Providence while I was out for the night. I was recommended this spot for drinks and I'm glad that I decided to stop in. The service was great, cocktails as well. I really liked the hibiscus breeze. There's great music playing, and it's such a chill environment.

Walter Besio

Google
Nor is an excellent mixologist! The cocktails were awesome. The spicy siesta was my favorite. Watch out though, the cocktails are kick xss strong. The snack platter was delicious.

Google
I love Ellie's. The food is great and consistently quality. I've ordered their cakes for functions and they are delicious and very accommodating of dietary needs. I wish they would fix their online menu ordering, I have a limited lunch break and don't have time to stand in line and wait for the food. It used to be a frequent lunch stop for me when I could order ahead.

Google
It was really sucky, from the moment we walked in on a Thursday night we were the only people there to celebrate a friends birthday, all in our late 20s early 30s. They told us even though we had nine people we had to squeeze into the booth that could maybe fit six, they told one student that his international ID wouldn’t be any good next time he came in (even though a passport card is legal tender) and then we’re just really snarky and rude. People liked the drinks, I only had a tonic because I am sober but would never go back

Google
First time here and it’s the perfect spot to get a drink before or after a show at PPAC. Fun winter cocktail menu. Will try the food next time

Google
Eddy is one of the best bars in Providence. Small space. Best to go with two or three. There are two booths in the back for larger groups and some outdoor seating during the summer. I got a sidecar, but they have a delicious menu of food and drinks that is continuously changing.

Google
Really cool spot dim lighting cozy Spot 2 meet for a drink and a bite to eat lots of cool shareable items on the menu plus lots of cool funky drinks definitely one of my favorite spots in the area

Olivia B.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night after dinner. Michael took great care of us, converting us to egg white cocktail folks. If you can grab a spot at the bar, take it! The cocktail list is a good guide if you don't have a cocktail in mind, but they do have a full bar. We got the gimlet and a few drinks on the menu but also got a few off menu/bartenders whim. Definitely will be back, this is a fun after dinner/date night spot!

Yelp
We went in for a drink and deviled eggs on New Year's Eve. The Eddy nailed it again. There was a steady crowd coming and in and out and the service was excellent. Drinks came out quick after the famous crack of the shaker and music of the clattering ice cubes. The Alpine Shore ($15) was amazing. I don't know what half of the ingredients were, but it really doesn't matter at the Eddy. They always make a balanced cocktail that mimics a scene in New York City. The bucchus' harvest caught my attention with the cognac ($15), amaro , sherry, fig, blueberry and lime. It was also a great cocktail. The deviled eggs were made with curry and apricot jam. I didn't think I was going to like it, but surprise, surprise...they did it again.

Yelp
Great bar with phenomenal drinks and food. My friend and I spontaneously decided to check out the Eddy. We ordered the Sea of Nectar and Life of Sin. I like sweeter drinks and the Sea of Nectar was perfect. It wasn't too strong and had a nice fizz. My friend ordered the Life of Sin, which is great if you like aperol spritz. We also ordered the Whipped Feta Dip and Charcuterie Board with Taleggio & Soppressata. We asked the waiter a couple questions about the cheese and meat options. She was really helpful. Loved our drinks and food. Overall, everything came really quick. Nice, darker ambiance inside too. It's a cozy space with a calm yet chatty vibe. Glad I checked it out!

Claudia Z.

Yelp
I guess I have become a regular - that's when the staff knows where you would like to sit, that you would like a glass of water with your order, 95% of the time you order the same drink & you don't normally get food because The Eddy is a pit stop on the way to or from somewhere else. Yup! 100% nailed it. In nice weather, we like to sit outside. In bad weather, we like to sit at the table next to the window. Hubby gets a Gansett tall boy, I get the House Punch. We did order the chicken liver mousse on a previous visit & it was delicious. I love that the House Punch changes daily. Last night, it was a delicious dark rum, tea, citrus concoction. I may or may not have had another while waiting for hubby to arrive. Just sayin'. Cheers!

Yelp
The drinks here were fantastic!!! I loved the fall themed beverages they had. The one I tried was called " Bacchus' harvest" and was served with a pretzel! The drink had a delicious blend of cognac, sherry, fig, blueberry and lime! It was so tasty and I wish it wasn't seasonal since I would definitely order it again! The server was also very kind and brought us extra pretzels to go with the drink. Lastly, the ambiance of the bar makes for a classy, high quality bar nestled in downtown Providence. It's a mere 2 minute walk from Oberlin's so you can get a tasty drink before your dinner and still be on time! Will definitely come back again soon

Diana C.

Yelp
Loved the fall themed drinks and the multiple NA options too. The service was pretty good overall. Maybe a little pushy on trying to get me to order food, but I get it. The ambiance was really cool - I sat by the window and enjoyed the space.

Yelp
This would have been a perfect evening were it not for the manager/server working at the restaurant. We had a large party come for drinks and the place was lively. The entire evening the manager complained that it was too crowded and let everyone know this. The vibe was great but he is attitude was such a downer. It is like he didn't want customers. The place was not overrun or at capacity in any way. He was just anxious an did not hide this. Someone should let him know he is in a customer service industry. The place itself is lovely. Bartender was amazing and made great drinks.

Kristen S.

Yelp
Always a solid choice for cocktails in downtown. Street parking is plentiful depending on day-if not park in a lot. Bartenders are always A+. Drinks are always creative and you can always find something you like. I really do love this bar.

R.J. P.

Yelp
Drinks are always delicious and I'm obsessed with the interior. Dark, intimate, and simply but effectively designed. Always been a favorite of mine for an after dinner (or sometimes before) cocktail. Service is usually friendly, though I have had a few experiences where it could've been better. Never bad, but sometimes a hint of attitude is present with certain staff. Trust me though it's not stopping me from returning. I can't leave a review without mentioning the deviled eggs. A must order for the perfect little bite alongside hour libation of choice. Their other food is tasty too, so don't let the bar atmosphere fool you, they're killing the food too!

Yelp
Heard a lot about Eddy and finally came through with a few people. Flew from LA and this was our first cocktail bar in PVD. lol. Awful, uppity service for mediocre, tired cocktails with drab flair. Bartenders laugh when you ask for a drink out of their wheel house - god forbid you don't order their other high brow seasonal drinks such as "house punch". Bartenders also laugh when you ask for a tequila soda. It seems nothing will make them happy unless you request a cocktail with Fischer price and faux aesthetic ingredients. Bartenders will also ask your entire party to leave immediately if you have one person too many at the table because it's disrupting their bs horrendous vibe. Jarring, awful service and rancid hospitality.

Yelp
Flashback to the times when speakeasies were popular, this small hole in the wall is moody and fun! With a great menu of cocktails, this the perfect place to meet up before a show at the theater or for an aperitif. The staff was quick and personable. Location is a great spot with a parking lot just around the corner. Fullfilling that speakeasy mood, it is very dark inside.

Lynne G.

Yelp
Probably one of my top five favorite bars of all-time. It's dark and the music is eclectic. The bartenders are a bit lofty, and they've earned the right to be with some very original drink offerings. Mixology is an art here, and it's fun to simply watch all of the different drinks being created. The Eddy is always on our must-stop list when visiting Providence.

Christina G.

Yelp
Super cute intimate vibes! I recently went back after a couple of years, drinks are good, snacks okay. Good service very kind and knowledgeable staff. My biggest complaint is the bathrooms are not clean! For a place that charges $15 per drink please wipe the toilet.

Leah S.

Yelp
It's a tiny place and was crowded the night we were there. It's didn't take too long for our (really good) drinks to arrive. Our server was rushed but understandably so, it was wall to wall human. We could've done without the abruptness, though. That said, I'd definitely go back. Interesting, snacky food, fun atmosphere.

JJ W.

Yelp
They close before 1am not at 2am as advertised. Bartender wouldn't even speak to me to tell me they were closed. Rude staff. Coming from a city where places are open late, definitely not the overall vibe here.

Alexandria C.

Yelp
Simplistic bar with good vibes. The music was nice and the staff were attentive. They also have a menu with small bites.

Sammy L.

Yelp
I was recommended this place by a server at another restaurant for a nice bar to go to. Me and my friends were very hopeful and excited about this place and even made a whole trip back here from Boston to try it out, but the service was very disappointing. I'm not sure if he was having a bad day or not but there was so much attitude since the moment we stepped in. We originally sat at the bar but really was not trying to deal with his attitude all night so we moved to the table seatings (and of course) after asking another server. He proceeds to bring our cups over and slams them into our table. That was when we decided to chug our drinks and leave. The place is small, intimate and really nice. Definitely good for a date night or after dinner vibes. I still do recommend the place for the drinks but if you're trying to deal with the bartender, I wouldn't.

Jonathan C.

Yelp
Best cocktail bar in Providence. That's it folks, take it or leave it, but don't leave it because that's just not a good idea.

Carissa S.

Yelp
This is the best place I've been to here in Rhode Island. The food was delicious; the bread was so fresh, and the mustard was sharp but was the perfect accompaniment to everything! Service was quick even though it's a small intimate restaurant! Drinks too a smidge longer than expected, but I'll definitely be back for the food!

Rebecca B.

Yelp
I've visited the Eddy several times, generally an hour or two before they close. It's a small, dimly lit, intimate bar, comparative as if you are in a speakeasy. I've sat at both the bar and the tables. The bar is nice for two, and the tables are nice for a group of 4. Can't have a party bigger than that. They play really loud music, sometimes live jazz as well. They have an extended cocktail list, where drinks can change based on the season. This time, I tried their "eXpresso martini on draft", chainonara, and the stirred paloma. I liked the chainonara the best! Definitely the most refreshing and aesthetic-looking. They also don't skimp on the amount of liquor they put in these drinks. I would honestly skip out on the snacks. Service is always friendly, mixologists are skilled in their craft, and overall a good vibe if you can get a spot.

Kyel R.

Yelp
A corner bar with low lighting creating a pretty cool mood. Very good service and very personable with many cocktails and drink options. They have a good menu with niche looking food and appetizers. A cool spot to cook at and move bartenders.

Aheli P.

Yelp
Super Intimate Experience Bar This is one of our favorite bars in Providence. It's super small - ideal for date night or at max a group of four. You can reserve ahead, but we haven't had a lot of trouble getting in on weeknights or off-hour weekends. The space is super cool - dimly light, giant wooden bar, and some awesome retro paintings. The cocktail list is extensive, but the friendly bar tenders can always make you a drink based on your taste. The "nibbles" are amazing. TL, DR: - Intimate Bar- best for Date Night or 1-on-1 Catch-Up - Best for cocktail lovers - Can reserve online or drop by during the non-peak hours (weeknights esp)

Evon S.

Yelp
This was a good dim calm bar. The bartender knew his drinks and recommended drinks to my liking. The big artwork was a nice touch. The house punch was definitely a punch lol. It highly recommended it and this bar. I'll be coming next time I'm visiting Providence.

Mary B.

Yelp
Ambience Very cute speakeasyish vibes. Dark n sexy ambience. Groups/seating VERY small, get there early. Tables are 2-4 plus bar seating for 10-12. Great hip hop n RnB selection on Sat night around 12:30am it goes! Great drinks. Got the Salamander Tears and Schilling Czek Pilsner. Thumbs up!!! Ps music is rap rnb hip hop

Antje W.

Yelp
I wanted to be excited about this place as it's my first bar in Rhode Island. Not only did the waitress never bring our food we asked for but she made sure to check if there was anything else that "we needed to drink before the bar closes" after waiting 30+ minutes for our drinks. The waitress then took the liberty to give herself a tip on my card to which I only found out 6 days later. I'm astonished really, terrible first experience at a bar in Rhode Island! I will 100% be in contact with the establishment.

Rei M.

Yelp
Nice for drinks. I've been here multiple times over the years and it's consistently solid. Atmosphere is cool, servers are nice, and it's always a good time. It's a really small space so it's always packed. If you want to go with a group you'll have to make a reservation for sure. The music is usually pretty loud, which also makes going in a group tougher, but it's fine for a date. The cocktail menu has a wide variety and changes often enough that there's always something new to try. There are also a couple that are always available, in addition to your traditional cocktails that they'll happily make for you. The old fashioned on-tap is usually pretty good but occasionally tastes like it may have sat around a little too long. The most consistently good drink (funny enough) is the House Punch, which actually varies depending on when you go. I've found that it's most often a rum-based drink but that could just be my timing. It's usually on the slightly sweeter side but not overwhelmingly so, and the flavors are always fun. Most recently, had the Thru-Hiker which was good but maybe a touch watery. Not worth the $14 (pre tax and tip) price but not a bad drink. Overall, solid drinks and a good place for a date. Not my go-to but I'm sure I'll continue to stop by every once in a while.

Cindy W.

Yelp
A great, inexpensive cocktail bar in the heart of downtown Providence. My boyfriend is into whiskey-based drinks, so he got the High Horse and enjoyed it. I like semi-strong and tasty drinks, so Dew You Mind was perfect for me. The outdoor space closes at 10:15 pm, so make sure you stop by the bar before that to get a spot indoor.

TjMartineau ..

Yelp
Bartender was rude, I couldn't tell if the drinks came straight out of the faucet since they tasted like water. I'm very particular about a stiff drink.

Angy M.

Yelp
Second time's a charm! Is that how the saying goes?? Lol So first time coming here, it was around 7pm on a Friday night and we were turned away because the place was PACKED! Take Two: Came on a weeknight around maybe 4pmish for after work drinks and while there were some people already there, we managed to find a spot for two. This place is super intimate and just perfect for a date or drinks with a friend. The little bites they've got to snack on are great and the drinks are a hit or miss lol Food -We got a platter with burrata, taleggio, duck pâté and possibly coppa (as the last meat). This was accompanied by whole grain mustard, apricot jam, cornichons and toasty bread. All were great although the duck was truly the STAR here.... get it!! -Drinks were yummy but unfortunately I only took pics of the ones I liked here! So best to mix and match to figure out what you like best!

Nick B.

Yelp
Spontaneous weekend trip led us to Providence for the night, and once checked into our hotel we wanted to find a cocktail, and The Eddy was both close and highly rated. It was a beautiful evening so we sat outside for a couple of great cocktails, and ended up ordering the last macaroons. Turned out there was only one, so they sent out some "puppy chow" as well, which was, well, weird because I'd never heard of such a thing but also, it was good after a long day and paired rather nicely with a more bitter cocktail, though I can't remember which it was. Anyhow, super cool space, great staff, would go back for sure.

Colleen D.

Yelp
Loved the chill ambience and wonderful staff at this quaint bar. They had a wide variety of cocktails and our server gave us wonderful recommendations. My favorites were the Summer Babe and Ruby Tuesday. Such a perfect place for drinks on weekends or after work especially with the availability of their outdoor patio seating. A must try if you ever visit Providence.

Patricia S.

Yelp
Drinks AMAZING, Vibe , will Definately be back . However only negative was our server suffered from extreme RBF , not terribly engaged and left feeling like we did something to offend her . However , worth the trip , but defiantly drinks , snacks , not a dinner place !

Ruhi B.

Yelp
If you are in the mood for something different or new, definitely check this place out. I tried the Sloe Down and can easily say that I've never had a drink like that before. I really enjoyed it and would suggest bringing friends from out of town here! The bartenders here are super kind and will answer all your questions, which is really great!

Cia B.

Yelp
One of the best COVID friendly date spots in the city! Ambience: Outdoor seating set up is awesome with big heaters and nice spaced apart tables. Music and vibe is also bumping so it feels like you're really out and having a good time. Food: Loved their cheese ball - oo so flavorful! Portions are def small so expect a tapas feels. Also got their slider which was unique and flavorful. Service: Our server was lovely! Reservations are easy to make and the walk-ins were also ea

Samantha C.

Yelp
Great drinks and food. We really enjoyed the pickled green beans and charred scallion dip, both of which were great for sharing in a group of 4. I enjoyed the house punch, which was pretty inexpensive for a drink ($8). I would definitely come back again.

D K.

Yelp
Fantastic cocktails and charcuterie. This place may be small but it packs a punch. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

Dorothy J.

Yelp
Very nice and cozy bar. It's kind of small, but if you go at the right time you will feel comfortable. The prices are reasonable, but if you're looking for cheap drinks, this is not the place to go. Same for the food. The bartender was extremely friendly and made us feel welcomed. It's not really my kind of crowd, but going with the right people definitely makes a difference. I would most definitely return.

S Nicole M.

Yelp
This little gem was like the best possible amusement park for my belly. Located at the unassuming corner of Eddy St., the small location belies the big flavors that appear on the table. The menu is "small plate" which delights me because I can graze on a variety of goodies. Its low lighting and simple decor made for a cozy spot to snack and relax.

Stephanie P.

Yelp
My favorite go-to bar in providence. It's the place you take your friend who is in town visiting for the weekend. The front of house guy is always super kind, respectful, polite- and not at all in your face or too chatty. The interior decor is BEAUTIFUL, it almost feels like an escape to a nice bar in new york for the night. Every drink is so unique and wonderful, prices are standard if not on the lower end! The crowd is typically older 20s but respectful but now rowdy which i appreciate. Super drinks, great ambiance, 10/10 would recommend

Joseph S.

Yelp
A good spot. Cozy; warm (when it's blowing outside); and great service. Understand this has a regular clientele including Brown and RISD students. We only stopped for cocktails before dinner so cannot comment on the food. We had 3 of their craft cocktails - all winners. Damages with tip for 3 was $50. Recommended!

Alli Q.

Yelp
Stellar. Always stellar. 10/10 for vibes, ambience, and cocktails. Their new menu was incredible - try the sour, trust me. You'll turn into a God. And this review wouldn't be a good one without an ode to the incredible staff they have. The bartenders have mastered their craft, and provide quite the entertaining shake-shake-shake of the tins. Don't leave PVD without trying the Eddy at least thrice.

Lisa W.

Yelp
Good craft cocktails! I always like to start off with whatever is on their menu, just to taste what they offer. I ask the bartender which one is the tartiest, he said none, just choose the one I like and he can make it tarty. I did and it turned out to be very good. Definitely one of the better drinking places I've tried.

Tony S.

Yelp
Nice. Mixed drinks are the draw. They don't disappoint. Open late. Check out the Mark Friedman painting when you walk through the door. Substantial.

Christopher V.

Yelp
The best charcuterie in the city!!!!! I noticed the other night the drink menu has expanded and I can't wait to go try some of them. The place is just romantic and makes you feel like your in the city. A true Gem of providence

Brian M.

Yelp
We got here a minute before they opened and glad we did because it got packed in about 45 minutes. The bar is super small, but the drinks packed a punch. I had a cocktail that had Fruity Pebble infused vodka. Yes. This was the epitome of cozy and I'd love to make the 3-hour drive in the snow one day to feel the cozy apex. Drinks are not cheap, but I had no complaints.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Horace and Natalie were the dream team last night. Very friendly and knowledgeable about all the bottles they carry. I have been here several times and realized I've neVer written a review. There is not parking directly in front, so plan on parking at a meter and walking a block. The bar is lit with a blue sign and is very tiny. People come in waves here even on weeknights, so if you see a seat-take it. All drinks are crafted by hand and usually by one bartender. Give them time to work their magic. The drinks are well balanced and the bar is well curated. They do have a selection of small bites. Not much for plant based eaters, but if you are an omnivore you will enjoy.

Liz S.

Yelp
The Eddy is one of the few bars in Providence that draws an actual wait, and it's easy to see why. Sophisticated cocktails without an attitude-- it takes a special kind of place to serve chartreuse- and benedictine-spiked cocktails alongside a perennially offered house punch with the description "it's what pirates drink! everybody loves pirates!" It's a low-key but sexy spot, with a sleek U-shaped bar at the center. It can be quite busy on weekend nights but they do a good job of not letting you in if you'll be standing for a while. Service can be excellent at off-peak but is often overwhelmed. I absolutely idolized The Eddy as a college senior and budding cocktail enthusiast, and I was pleased to see that they hold up after the many bars I've visited. I was dreaming of the Orange Julius and it was just as good as I remembered when I got it last month. My friend's Stand By Your Manzanilla was even better. It's a bit pricey for Providence, but I think $12 is a fair deal for these well-made cocktails.

Becca G.

Yelp
Drinks were fantastic, snacks were delicious, and the service was great. The indoor space is small and intimate. There's patio seating as well.

Christopher C.

Yelp
Horus was great as a tender for making our night run tasty. Great cocktails with organic and authentic infusion. Made non alcoholic drinks memorable and the ones with it - tingling. The appetizers are layered with hidden but familiar flavors. Definitely will return on my next visit to the island lol. Low lights and vibe music makes eddys a great place after hour chill spot!!
