Jersey City’s Automat Kitchen Serves Comfort Food From Little Windows | Eater NY

"In Jersey City, among the office buildings and shopping malls of Newport, I visited Automat Kitchen, a sliver of a space with street‑facing windows, a scatter of tables inside and a few seats in the courtyard; the center of attention is an anteroom with 20 windows arrayed in two rows (much larger than the originals). The food is not left in the windows but made to order: you select on a touchscreen terminal that requires full name, email, phone and credit card details, and then wait — my lunch took almost 15 minutes. The menu, credited to chef Quirino Silva, includes comfort classics reinvented; I ordered a chicken pot pie ($12.99), miso roasted broccoli ($6.99) and a breakfast taco with chorizo and cheese ($4.74), though the Frito pie burrito I wanted was unavailable. When ready my name appeared on a video screen and a text with a secret code opened window No. 6, where I found a plastic bag of carryout packaging (some apparently biodegradable, some not). The chicken pot pie was deliriously good — generous dark and light shredded chicken, thick beige gravy like that poured over a chicken‑fried steak, extra diced vegetables and a puff‑pastry crust on top that sufficed. The miso roasted broccoli was tasty though not charred as promised (it seemed steamed) with a pale miso that added sweetness. The breakfast taco fared worse: the flour tortilla was way too small to wrap the egg, cubed sweet potato, chorizo and scant cheese, leaving the taco dominated by sweet potatoes. Overall I enjoyed the meal and appreciated that it was made to my exact specifications, but I missed the instant bounty of the old automats; Automat Kitchen suggests a future of long waits, contactless carryout and more time staring into the dead eye of the computer. The cost of my meal plus tax and tip was about $30 and change." - Robert Sietsema

Very cute and cozy cafe! Latte was perfectly heated and pictureworthy. The tequila sunrise was delicious. All of the flavors worked so well together. And although not a huge fan of rosemary bread, it was just what it needed. Only negative was it was a little pricey for breakfast but everything is anymore.

I had a wonderful experience at Edison Automat Cafe! The ambiance is warm, inviting, and perfect for relaxing or catching up with friends. The service was excellent, attentive and friendly without being intrusive. The food and drinks were absolutely delightful. We ordered the Chicken Bruschetta, which was flavorful and well-prepared, along with Hot Chocolate, a Pina Colada, and a Latte. Each item was delicious and beautifully presented. One of the best parts is that the food here is halal, so it’s a great spot for everyone to enjoy without worry. Overall, Edison Automat Cafe is a gem with a perfect combination of great ambiance, outstanding service, and amazing food. Highly recommended—I’ll definitely be coming back!

Went to The Edison Automat for Mother’s Day dinner and had an amazing experience! The juicy burgers were cooked to perfection, and the spicy, crispy French fries were honestly the best I’ve ever had—packed with flavor and perfectly seasoned. The garlic bread was also delicious and full of flavor. To top it all off, the dessert was absolutely out of this world. A perfect meal for a special occasion. This is my second time going there.Love this place.

First time to this cafe .. seriously - from outside it doesn’t look like a cafe . I thought it was a car mechanic shop 🤪 i would say it’s a hidden gem . Good location . Right on oak tree . Lots of parking outside . The cafe looked very interesting and. Ice ambience . Coffee tables looked very good for chitchats with friends and families . It’s a bit pricey though. Ordered Nashville style burgers 🍔 for about 20$ !!!! Food was awesome though … burger was really well made and crispy . Spice level was perfect . Fries 🍟 were good too ! We also ordered Bombay sandwiches 🥪 and it tasted good . Bean rice salad was ok. Looked healthy .. price wise everything was expensive than normal pricing outside . Service was good . Space was a little constrained inside . Tables were close to each other and it was a noisy restaurant.. good experience overall .. 4 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have been several times now and the food is amazing every time. The drinks are well made, especially the specials. The pancakes are truly heavenly but if you are not into breakfast meals or sweet stuff, the brunch/lunch menu is also just as good. The sandwiches and home fries are definitely a fave.

Google
Loved this place! They don’t do free coffee refill but their craft drinks have reasonable price and tasted delicious. We also loved about how much vegetables they put in the plates. Highly recommend.

This place is very pleasant with a cozy atmosphere! We had some steak and eggs and grilled sandwich as well. Everything was delicious and everything was halal!! Great place to spend your morning with loved ones ❤️❤️

If you're looking for a great bite to eat, come on down to The Edison Automat. I rarely give 5 stars to any establishment - this one deserves 6. Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner, you will not be disappointed. Fantastic Halal food in a snazzy beautiful restaurant.

Yelp
Everything has changed. New owners but it's not the same. They used to make the best London Fog. They brewed their own to make it. Now it's awful. They had a chicken bruschetta sandwich. That's gone. Might as well change the name because it isn't the same.

Yelp
The service was warm and efficient from the moment I walked in. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance--modern, clean, and cozy enough to linger over breakfast. There was a great selection of breakfast options, with something for everyone--from lighter choices to hearty plates. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The real standout, though, was the coffee--smooth, bold, and perfectly brewed. It's definitely a spot I'd return to for a relaxed morning meal or a casual catch-up over coffee.

Yelp
We stopped by Edison Automat for a late Sunday breakfast and couldn't have asked for a better experience. The ambience was relaxed, perfect for a chill afternoon meal. We tried the Smoky Tom Omelette and the Bombay Masala Omelette, and both were absolutely delicious. To drink, we had a regular coffee and an iced vanilla latte--both were excellent. Service was warm and efficient, rounding out a great experience.

Yelp
Great place to do work and to to have a chill lunch. They have good WiFi and outlets. The food was amazing. The servers were very attentive and the food came out quickly. I recommend their grilled sandwiches. I tried the lavender matcha. It was okay, I had to pay for a side shot of vanilla to make it sweet. The owner was there the day I went and was very welcoming.

Yelp
I got the Cobb salad, which was great (4.5/5)! There was a ton of chicken on top, and it was a big portion overall! The service was good (4/5), and the interior is also nice! They have a big menu with a lot of good looking options.

Yelp
The place has been changed, it's not a coffee shop but a sit down cafe with new ownership. Awesome food and service! It Makes sense now! Before it was a coffee shop where u can sit and didn't work now it's a proper sit down cafe

Yelp
Adorable restaurant, great menu and very good food! Great salads, good burgers! Service was a tad slow but we were in no rush. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
My family has had numerous meals here, both breakfast and lunch, and ALWAYS enjoy the experience. Wait times have never exceeded more than a few minutes, as it's well sized to handle the busiest hours. We love sitting outside in the nicely shaded patio, which is set back far enough from the road so as not to feel like you're sitting in a parking lot. Inside, it's charmingly defined to honor the local Edison lightbulb-origen history. The servers have been uniformly pleasant, bout smiling and quick to offer menus, water, and other service, but not hovering -- you feel like you can hang out and talk a while after the meal, which is nice. I've gotten a few of the sandwiches and egg dishes (Tom is a standout for me) but we've covered pretty much the whole menu between us in our family and they've all been yummy, bonfire that I can recall. It feels more like a cafe (nice enough for a casual date) but has the wide range of options, for both vegetarian and bacon-lovers among us, to compete with the convenience and something-for-everyone elements of a diner. I wish I had an option like it closer to me.

Yelp
The food was amazing, cooked good and delicious. The drinks were very good as well. The service was excellent or waitress was kind. The place was welcoming and had a warm cozy atmosphere.

Yelp
My party of 4 visited on a Sunday around 1pm and was seated promptly. They offer a breakfast and lunch menu as well as some seasonal drinks. Although the menu says breakfast sandwiches are only served until noon, we were pleasantly surprised when the waitress told us we could still order them. We tried the Cali, Tequila Sunrise, and B. Burrito which was served with a side of with chips or salad. We also tried their Nashville Hot Chicken. We enjoyed the sandwiches and would order them again, but the breakfast burrito and chicken were just average. Overall a good breakfast/lunch spot with pretty standard offerings.

Yelp
This little Gem that gets better and better. First of all besides that their food items are tasty and delicious I'm all about service. Exceptional service upon entering and exiting. The decor is different from the last when they opened years ago. Not sure if it's under new management but I enjoyed my breakfast/lunch time. The music was good and I felt relaxed. Their different flavored (barista)coffee/lattes was delicious. Great food options. Will come back. Perhaps enjoy their outdoor seating.

Yelp
4+ years later and I still only have wonderful things to say about The Edison Automat! Great food, wonderful space perfect for a nice lunch or even taking out your laptop to work, friendly team, good coffee menu... the list of "greats" just go on and on. It's been a awhile since I stopped in, and I love that they did a bit of revamping/redecorating! The counter area changed up a bit to include more seating, so I am guessing they needed the extra tables and space which is only a good sign. I let my waitress know that I'd be meeting a friend and asked if it was still okay to use laptops at the table. Not only did she ensure it was totally fine, she suggested we grab a table close to an outlet in case we needed a charger. Such a thoughtful suggestion! My quinoa breakfast bowl is the breakfast bowl of my dreams. Lots of veggies, perfectly over medium eggs and so much of all of it. I love I love I love. Oh, and the coffee menu was looking amazing. From iced chais to hot oat milk lattes, it's all good. Honestly, this spot is a hit always.

Yelp
Very good lunch spot. Had a Nashville hot chicken sandwich which was nice and spicy and very crunchy. The aioli was nice as well. The slaw was very dry and not much flavor to it. One of our party had a southwest chicken wrap which was very good as well. A member of our party ordered the portobello mushroom burger and was just expecting it to be a big mushroom on a bun but was a double-meat burger with a mushroom underneath. Should have read that more carefully I would have made that mistake based on the title but description was clear. Just be aware if you don't want meat. Didn't see it advertised as halal but all they have is beef bacon. Thought that was a misprint. Didn't much care for it. Kind of Canadian bacon-like.

Yelp
Cute Restaurant. Loved the ambience. I had the Smoky Tom and it was delicious. Perfect balance between fresh eggs, vegetables, and cheese. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
Didn't know the automat now serves dinner, but I stopped by to check it out! It was a bit empty inside, but I could tell the interior is much more elevated since the last time I went, though I do miss the booth seating they replaced. Dinner offerings are a bit different, so this time me and my friend opted for a little pasta night. She got the vodka pasta while I got the alfredo. Both were truly top notch, extremely creamy, but the alfredo did get a bit one-noted toward the end of the meal, so would recommend getting add-ons or st least hot sauce up the alfredo. I will say, the minus one star is attributed by the fact the menu is a lot steeper in price now than one would expect, and even though we were the only table for most of the night, the service was quite slow. Overall, worth checking out the new dinner scene to the automat, and the food still does not disappoint!

Yelp
This is a review of when I visited in September 2023. It seems like the menu prices haven't changed since I went in September (check photos). I happened to be in the area and had to quickly choose a place to grab a bite and I saw that they had something called cloud cakes, so guess what I assumed they were? Yup, soufflé pancakes! Were they soufflé pancakes? No :( I should've looked at the pictures before getting excited about this pancake and I would've noticed that they were regular pancakes. I wouldn't exactly call them cloud pancakes, not really especially fluffy. I was very disappointed, so that's why I'm writing this review, so no one else becomes sad like me. My friend had a steak & egg sandwich which was just okay. I was there on a Sunday morning, so it was pretty busy, but we did get seated pretty quickly. However, when got some pastries to go afterwards, that seemed to actually take longer to get. (Pastries were okay, too, nothing exciting or amazing about them.) I'm always searching for soufflé pancakes in NJ, so my quest shall continue until I find a true and delicious one.

Yelp
The Edison Automat has been on my radar for years. Today, I made here. Hey, look, Ma, I made it! Would love to start off by saying I LOVED the hostess. What a lovely person!! Very communicative and very sweet. Not a hoverer but still very aware. Give her a raise pronto! Started off with an iced matcha latte with almond milk. So happy they have matcha that's NOT sweetened! And I ordered two small plates evened though I wanted them all. The Tempura Sprouts were sooo good! Making a persona non grata veg actually delicious is a feat on it's own! I could eat those forever! Also got the Garlic Parm Chicken Skewers. When I tell you it's fire, I mean it! Not what I was expecting but what an exquisite surprise!!! Yummmm! The decor is modestly upscale-ish. Immaculate even in the restroom where it matters. The tableware above average. Just a great experience! And did I mention how much I appreciated the Hostess?

Yelp
Food was excellent. Came with a large party and they accommodated us on the outside patio. Service was attentive, only strange that we had 4 different servers throughout the meal, so spent a little extra time having to make sure everyone was on the same page, but they were all super nice and helpful. Also, I wish they served real bacon and alcohol though. It would elevate the experience. Not sure how a brunch place doesn't offer bacon, but the food was so good, I almost didn't notice! My daughter loved her virgin Pina Colada too!

Yelp
After a dental appointment, we decided to come here for brunch. I've been wanting to come here for a while. We were immediately seated after checking in. The place is medium in size and has extremely cozy vibes, with green plants mounted to the walls alongside framed pictures of retro advertisements. The walls are white, with some of them having green vines painted on them. Spherical white lamps hang over the booth tables on the side and a huge coffee bar can be seen all the way in the back. I had the Almond Crusted French Toast which is Pullman toast with powdered sugar and served with maple syrup, orange supremes, strawberries and blueberries. I also added banana slices. I liked it a lot and thought that the French toast was nice and fluffy. The fruits were a nice touch. Adding banana slices were supposed to be an extra $1 but they never charged me for it. Next, daughter ordered Avocado Toast. The avocado is mashed with salt and pepper and lime juice, topped with tomatoes and feta cheese and a drizzle of olive oil. It's served with a side of salad and 2 eggs. She also had a choice of sourdough or whole wheat bread and chose sourdough. Daughter got her eggs over easy. This is her usual and she liked it as always. She thought that the side salad was a nice and healthy touch. She said that she loved the sourdough bread and would get that whenever it's an option. Lastly, hubs ordered Plant Power! It comes with spinach, corn, fried onions, broccoli and roasted garlic. The entree also comes with a side salad and a choice of home fries or buttered toast. He opted for the home fries. Eggs were fluffy and he liked it a lot. The potatoes were deep fried till crunchy and was also a nice touch. Side salad was nice, as always. Service was quick and friendly. Will definitely be back when in the area to try other items on the menu.

Yelp
The service was fine and the staff were respectful, but unfortunately, the food didn't meet my expectations. It feels like this place is more focused on selling an aesthetic rather than delivering quality food. I ordered the chicken & waffles and was disappointed -- the waffles tasted like they had actual sugar cubes in them, and they clearly weren't homemade. For the price and hype, I expected better. AUTOMAT it's in the definition.

Yelp
If you get the matcha from here it is very chunky and it is not totally mixed. The food is pretty good.

Yelp
So glad I had a chance to return to the Edison Automat, but this time on a Thursday afternoon! The space was significantly less busy, which meant it was a lot quieter and faster service. I even got the chance to pull out my laptop and get some work done while I had lunch, which was so lovely. I ordered the portobello bomb sandwich and it exceeded all expectations. The melted cheddar with the mushrooms, caramelized onions, and peppers made for the perfect flavor combination. The sandwich was so big and filling that I was able to take home leftovers. It also came with a side of chips and a pickle - difficult to mess up, but still absolutely delicious. I kept my coffee order pretty simple this time and ordered a traditional cappuccino. Even though it was standard, the coffee was so rich - plus the foam art is always so beautiful. This spot has quickly become a favorite. Just keep in mind when you're coming - weekends are extremely busy while weekdays are much more relaxed, which is very typical for such a consistently amazing restaurant like this one!

Yelp
Management/ownership has changed and this place has gone downhill. The waitstaff for some reason always seem confused and nervous. Things requested never make it to the table like napkins and extra butter or syrup. Guess it was good while it lasted....
google avatar

Kirsten K.

Yelp
I love this restaurant! It's everything I want when I go out to lunch. First, it's easy to get to along a main road and has a big free parking lot. Next, it looks so welcoming with a cheerfully planted outdoor seating space. As soon as I walk in, I'm greeted by friendly and helpful staff. I am having a good experience before I have even placed my order! The menu has dozens of meals I enjoy so it's easy to pick something different and delicious every time. My current favorite is the vegetarian hot sub called the portobello bomb, which is so flavorful and has such a great texture that I don't miss the meat at all. I've also completely enjoyed their omelettes and avocado toast. Even something as simple as a ham sandwich is far above average with the best quality bread and ham. The food always comes out in 10-15 minutes at most. The people working here all have good customer service skills and make me feel my business is appreciated. I acknowledge it's more expensive to eat here than at other lunch spots nearby. A sandwich and latte costs about $20.00. I treat myself here regularly and will continue to do so because high quality food, service, and ambiance is very important to me.

Yelp
Cafe is beautifully decorated. Really clean bathrooms and dinning area. Food was excellent and the price was even better! You can tell the owner put a lot of passion, thought and love into the concept of the cafe & grill. Our waitress and staff were very attentive and answered all of our questions. They gave great recommendations and were glad we listened. Service was all around superb. 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
Great food, great service! Found this spot via Yelp while in town for a hockey tournament. Wanted a real breakfast and not just fast food and this hit the spot! Breakfast burrito, Cal E breakfast sandwich and Smoky Tom. All were delicious! Also got a side of home fries which was a full bowl! Latte and chai tea were yummy too!

Yelp
Came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning around 10am. It was not too busy and we were seated right away. For drinks we got the butter pecan flavored latte and fresh squeezed orange juice. The drinks were good but it was interesting that they served it to us in to go cups when we were dining in. For food we ordered the granola parfait, the Tex Mex burrito and home fries. The parfait had granola, fresh berries, honey all on top of vanilla yogurt. Everything was balanced and the portion size was pretty large. The Tex Mex burrito was really good. The chorizo and jalapeño give it a nice little kick but nothing too overpowering. I actually added more hot sauce to it for some added heat and acidity. I like that the wrap was heated up to give it a little texture. It came with a small side salad which I found a little strange for a breakfast item. The home fries were kind of disappointing. They were just diced up potatoes that didn't have much flavor. Overall it's a decent breakfast place. There was nothing that i found was exceptionally good and nothing that was bad. It's your dependable breakfast spot.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem so happy to find a place for brunch on the weekends. Menu has something for everyone. Food is delicious. Ambiance is so chill & comfortable. Service is good & Owners were very friendly. Can't wait to go again.

Yelp
The food was well presented and quite good, the atmosphere was modern and relaxed. The service was just mediocre as it seemed the wait staff was slightly confused as to which tables they were responsible for.

Yelp
Atmosphere: 5 I love the function of the restaurant layout. When you enter, on your right, you can order at the counter for food to go. On the left, you can sit and be served for dine in! They have a paperless menu which is nice, but they also offer a paper version. I appreciate that the paper menu is printed on nice paper and isn't grimy. Sometimes, paper menus get used so much they get really worn out and grimy. Not this one though! I really like the pictures on the walls that have historic Automat photos, etc. It made me curious about the history of the building and of Automats in general. The restaurant area is quite dimly lit and I personally would like it better if it were better lit. There's also outdoor seating! The restaurant is clean and tidy! Portion: 5 I ordered the Smoky Tom and it is A LOT of food. The omelette must have had 6 eggs in it or something because the egg layer is really thick. The salad and home fries are nice. It makes the meal very hearty. There is broccoli in my omelette and they were actual florets and not diced up. I don't mind either way and I think it's the first time I've had big pieces of broccoli in my omelette. It definitely adds to the hearty feel of the meal. Flavors: 5 Delish! I ordered a latte with my meal and it was perfectly sweet. The rest of the flavors of the meal is really good too - no complaints on salt levels. My husband had a chicken sandwich and he said it was really good. Overall, we plan to come again. The food price is good and there are a ton of options too. So happy that this restaurant is so close to our house!

Yelp
3 1/2* Service was very friendly. We were one of the first people in the restaurant on a Sunday morning, but the food still took a while to come out...not a great thing when you have two very hungry kids with you. The steel cut oats were fine, nothing I couldn't make at home but still comforting on a chilly winter morning. The super popular pancakes were okay, I wouldn't call them airy but rather very dense and filling. My kids love ordering pancakes when we go out for breakfast/brunch, but I don't think these would rank in their top 5. The tofu scramble was something different, wasn't expecting chunks of tofu. They were mildly flavored, wish I could have tasted the ginger more. The mushrooms and kale were flavored well. I prefer my potatoes crispier so these were a bit of a letdown, but my mom did enjoy them. Coffee was fine, very basic flavored grinds.

Yelp
My experience was just okay honestly. We ordered pancakes, avocado toast, chicken sausage and bacon. Pancakes - Fluffy, with an amazing hit of sweetness that was absolutely delicious. They literally melt in your mouth!!! This was my favorite meal and one of the reasons I gave three stars. Avocado toast- Personally I wish the sourdough bread could have been toasted. The over easy egg was cooked to perfection but I think the bread ruined it for me. Chicken sausage- Tasty Pork Bacon- From what I was told it was amazing

Michelle A.

Yelp
Love the food, service and ambiance! I had the chicken salad sandwich and Matcha Latte. My brother had the French Toast with coffee. Both delicious!

Yelp
The Edison Automat is a great modern brunch spot! I was craving both lunch and breakfast options, and this was a fantastic restaurant for trying both. We came here around noon on a Saturday and there was no wait. FOOD We opted for several options including the: +The Buttermilk Cloud Pancakes +Mac Cadillac Burger +Smoky Tom The pancakes were so light and fluffy and came with a topping of strawberries on top. You can also choose to add blueberries or chocolate chips for an additional charge. FYI - we ordered it with CC and the chips were not infused in the pancakes / the batter, they were place on the top of each stacked pancake. By default, the mac cadillac burger comes with a beyond burger veggie patty, but you could also opt for subbing in a smash style beef patty. The burger was so tasty, cooked to the right consistency and very flavorful. I would absolutely order this again. SERVICE Service was standard and the staff was very friendly. ATMOSPHERE The decor is very cute and has a great ambience. They also have a shaded patio area with outdoor seating and plenty of parking. Definitely recommend trying!

Yelp
I miss the old owners and menu. Just change the name and start your own thing. This place was so good. So disappointed with the new place. Food didn't have the same flavor, more bland. Such a shame. We won't return.
google avatar

Tony P.

Yelp
Update May 4, 2023 I ordered Portobello Bomb, with sautéed sweet peppers, caramelized onions and grilled portobello on ciabatta bread. Tasty and delicious.
google avatar

Erica L.

Yelp
A wonderful gem of a lunch and coffee spot! Super friendly service, and lovely personal touches like the beautifully decorated coffee cups and chalkboard. There's also something for everyone on this menu which is very veggie/vegan friendly. I enjoyed the crispy chicken bruschetta sandwich though the breading wasn't crispy by the time I bit into it. The sweet potato chips were great. The kale Caesar was also very fresh and tasty. The hummus wrap was a little lacking in flavor but with a touch of hot sauce was great.

Denise R.

Yelp
Nice to have a coffee. They have a decent variety of coffees. We only had coffee so we cannot talk about food. The ambience is nice and the terrace is a plus. It looks good and have a nice atmosphere. It is a pity they close at 8pm. The terrace would a nice place to hang out at night if they were open at, least open til 9 or 9:30pm, or better yet 10pm during summer time. The staff was nice too.

Conrad P.

Yelp
Cloud cakes are amazing. So fluffy and filling. Share if you're not that hungry or dig in if you are!
google avatar

Inquiring M.

Yelp
This was my second trip here and boy am I glad I came back. The breakfast quinoa bowl was a great mash of flavor. The quinoa was bland as expected.. and hella grainy so I already went in with a 0 for expectations but the egg and the other veggies (that they added cheese too) was a nice touch to bring it all together, so the bland quinoa wasn't even a factor in da meal tbh. The service was ehhh, nothing special.. and the donuts at the counter weren't initially a part of my order but I'm glad I added one to the order because that THANG was to die for! I'll def be back and will suggest this spot to others!

Yelp
Wonderful place with delicious breakfast!! I had Spicy Nashville Burger and which was spicy and Juicy. Very Nice portion for a grownup. More importantly this is Halal. Can't expect anything more than this.
google avatar

Suchi O.

Yelp
Had been here for a Sunday brunch. We had Mediterranean omelette, hummus wrap and Italian stallion. The dishes were freshly made and tasty. Coffee was fresh brewed and pipping hot. Enjoyed our brunch!! The place has clean & nice ambience. Definitely recommending to friends & family.
google avatar

Anna Y.

Yelp
This used to be our go-to spot on Sundays, but with the new ownership, the quality has gone down, and prices have gone up. The chicken bruschetta sandwich price went up to $18!! And the kids grilled cheese is $9 and no longer includes chips. It's not worth it anymore.

Jennifer E.

Yelp
The service was excellent, the staff were attentive and friendly. Food is exceptionally well executed. My husband ordered Tequila sunrise, it was innovative and delicious breakfast sandwich. I had the quinoa bowl and I loved the flavors! We ordered home fries that were well seasoned and perfectly cooked! Lastly my favorite the Almond crusted French toast were cooked with sliced almonds and fruits was so good! The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated and comfortable seating too. We will definitely be back soon!!!

Yelp
We've been coming to the Edison Automat for years for breakfast, which we always enjoy. We've been aware that there has been a change in ownership, and have been back several times, desperately hoping that the food hasn't changed. The good news is that the breakfasts we usually order (a few omelets) has stayed the same. Same recipes, same taste. Great! What HAS changed is the service. The 4 or 5 times we've been back since new management - well, service has been just lousy. Today, we decided to go for lunch. I had a chicken sandwich, and it was okay. My wife made the mistake of ordering a burger - she's been craving a burger and that's why we came - and she was delivered a couple of frozen burger patties, that even with onions, bacon, mushrooms was still just a frozen burger. 17 bucks - and for that money we can go anywhere and get a decent burger. Service today was par for the course - plain crummy. We waited a long time to order (only after I made eye contact with one of the several waiters who were standing around on their phones or talking. Order came out reasonably quickly. My wife asked for mustard (yeah, a crime) and eventually was delivered a cup of honey mustard sauce. That was the end of the interactions, until I made eye contact and could get their attention to get the bill. A total lack of attention, no caring, no nothing - until it was my turn to dial in a tip. We paid 40 bucks for a most mediocre lunch with poor service. What a shame. This place used to be great.

Yelp
Roast beef melt is a very good sandwich. Haven't tried anything else but give me time

Yelp
Honestly some of my favorite food in Edison. The menu itself is pretty normal, but everything is so well made. I really like their vanilla lattes (the quality can fluctuate but when it's good, it's really good). I usually get the Mac Cadillac with home fries. It's a simple burger done really well. I am vegetarian but the crispy chicken bruschetta sandwich is apparently amazing. The place itself is really cute and there's a lot of love in the details. Lots of space in the front which makes it comfortable to wait around, whether for a table or takeout. There's also an outdoor area which they open up for dining when the weather is good. All the people who work here are so nice. Could not love The Edison Automat more

Yelp
I ordered breakfast from the Edison Automat for take home this morning and was extremely disappointed. The hot chocolate was undrinkable (milk tasted expired), the avocado was brown, the turkey in the wrap was pink like ham and tasted off. The fries were soggy/uncooked. When we called to let them know, the manager said this was not possible as the food was made in front of him and that we were making it up. He was extremely rude and unhelpful. As a loyal customer since they opened 5 years ago, they have lost my business and many others. The quality was made even worse by the managers aggressive behavior. This is not the beloved community spot it once was.
