"Tucked into the ancient, magical maze that is Old Acre, the Efendi Hotel looks out onto the city walls and the sea just beyond. Combining two Ottoman palaces, this labor of love from celebrity chef Uri Jeremias—whose nearby restaurant, Uri Buri, is practically a foodie pilgrimage site—took restorers and artisans the better part of a decade to complete under the watch of the Antiquities Authority. The layer cake of history beneath the hotel includes a 12th-century Crusader cellar, where you should head for a wine tasting, and a 400-year-old hammam, where you should book a Turkish bath. Also not to be missed at the Efendi: the 19th-century fresco commemorating the debut of Istanbul’s Orient Express station, the gorgeously preserved ceilings, and the rooftop bar (be sure to go at sunset, when your drinks will be accompanied by a chorus of Muezzin calls). Though you’ll be tempted to linger over the sublime views—and fresh dates—in your room, get out during the day and explore the surrounding alleys, mosques, synagogues, markets, tunnels, fortress, citadel, and port."

In Israel, Uri Jeremias Unites Both Flavors and People - AFAR

"A 12-room boutique hotel created by the same chef, restored over nine years from two former Ottoman-era palaces. Common spaces and guest rooms feature colorful ceiling frescoes conserved by Italian artists; the property also includes a refurbished hammam and a 900-year-old vaulted wine cellar. The terrace overlooks the Mediterranean, breakfast is included with rooms (rates listed from $320), and the chef’s restaurant is a short five-minute walk away. The hotel’s food program includes regional breakfast items such as spicy shakshuka and crispy cheese pastries (moajanat) prepared by staff who often learned and advanced under the chef’s mentorship." - Sara Lieberman

The 16 Best Restaurants in Akko, Israel - Eater

"This boutique hotel, founded by the legendary Uri Buri, sits inside two ancient houses, which were combined over the course of an eight-year restoration. Since completion, it has breathed new life into the hotel scene in the area. Even if you are not staying at the hotel, it’s worth taking a tour and to try a diverse Akko breakfast at the hotel restaurant. The family-style feast brings all the guests together for a spread that changes according to the season. It features salads, homemade jams, fresh cheese, home-baked pita with za’atar, pastries, and various omelets (including a vegan option that swaps eggs for chickpea flour). The hotel includes an amazing terrace overlooking the city, a wine cellar for special events, and a stunning hammam. For the ultimate foodie escape, book a package including a room, massage, breakfast, and dinner at Uri Buri. [$$]" - Keren Brown

The Efendi Hotel (Acre, Galilee) 8 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"If the walls of the Efendi Hotel could talk, you might never get any sleep. The hotel is located in the ancient Israeli port city of Acre, at the northern end of the Bay of Haifa, a place whose recorded history goes back to the Bronze Age. So by local standards, perhaps the Efendi, which contains remnants of structures dating as far back as the 6th century, is merely middle aged. After an eight-year renovation, the two buildings that now make up the twelve-room hotel are looking better than ever, a painstakingly detailed homage to the place’s remarkable architectural provenance." - Tablet Hotels

This hotel is over 400 years old. From the moment you enter its magical. You are welcomed by fresh fruit and drinks and by the warmth and smiles of the staff. The rooms are comfortable and beautifully furnished in the style of the era. The breakfasts are sumptuous, with everything freshly made, almond croissants, eggs, fresh salads, smoked salmon, dips you wont have encountered before..|We had the effendi treatment, massage and a hamman experience. We came out sparkling clean and refreshed and most importantly after the past year- relaxed.|Nimer, the concierge took us on a tour of Akko. We learnt about the city since the Crusades, and before. He was the most incredible guide, fascinating, interesting, i didnt want the day to end.|We went to the Argemon beach, 10 minutes away by car. Soft sand, warm water.|What a holiday. I have been to the best hotels in the world, in the UK, Hong Kong, Paris, Germany, US, and NOTHING comes close to the experience of the Effendi.

You can literally feel the history all around .|We stayed in a gorgeous sea view room with a view above the rooftops of the Old City . Impeccable taste went into the design of every corner of the property .|The staff went above and beyond to cater to any request and a special Thankyou to Maria and Dario at the front desk and the breakfast staff who made the morning breakfast feast truly memorable. |We also dined at the Uri Buri fish restaurant around the corner - not to be missed, one of israel’s finest , a true gem. |ממליץ בחום למי שעוד לא התנסה - מקום מקסים נעים ומיוחד מאוד עם שירות מעל ומעבר !

This was one of the best long weekend getaways we've ever had. The hotel is phenomenally beautiful, and the staff is amazing—especially the wonderful Elias and the lovely breakfast team. The breakfast is absolutely perfect!|Yes, Akko's alleys aren't the cleanest, and stray cats roam the streets, but that's an issue for the municipality to address and is beyond the hotel's control.|Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the bed was fantastic.|It had been 10 years since our last visit, and we kept asking ourselves—why did we wait so long to come back?||

This is an absolutely beautiful hotel in a fantastic location inside the old city of Akko/ Acre. So much character. You can walk to Uri Buri restaurant, which is delicious and feels very personal, with great service. The Efendi provides a heightened boutique hotel experience, beginning with outstanding service, carefully chosen decor, attention to detail, and a focus on making you feel welcome and at home. The rooms are unique, well-equipped, and optimized to make you feel at ease; the bathrooms are spacious, well thought-out (towel heaters, ear plugs to keep the light sleepers from waking to the late/early prayers), and a breakfast that will make you want to have dinner at 5pm or skip it all together unless—that is—you have dinner at Uri Buri. The rooftop terrace is quaint and overlooks the Old City, while the terrace on the second floor has views of the mosque which are beautiful at the golden hour. The lounge areas are also beautiful and welcoming; the decor is soothing and inviting, wishing you wanted to sit around at the hotel all day. I did not get to try the spa and its services but would encourage you to try if you have the spare time. Yes, the access by car is difficult but that’s not why you choose this hotel or your visit to Akko.
