After being closed so long, we were happy to get back to the Egg and Us. If you look at my history, I am not one to post a negative review, but I really feel ththis establishment has some work to do to make it more inviting and worthy of returning to.
To be fair, we came the first day they opened after the big power outage. We walked into a cold restaurant and they said something about trying to get it warmer, but we didn't realize their furnace wasn't functioning. We came for warmth and ate with jackets on. Their lighting instead of being a warm glow was quite bright, almost fluorescent. That's just personal opinion, but I prefer a slower start to breakfast with natural sunshine (if possible, but we know not always available in November in seattle) rather than feeling like I'm in the grocery store or other commercial space.
I first ordered coffee and it was extremely weak and just did not taste like a good blend at all. I drank it all, hoping it was just a bad batch and would be refilled with a better taste, but it was the same. I don't consider myself a coffee snob and usually enjoy drip, but this was warm which was great, but I would expect more flavorful for a breakfast place.
We ordered a standard 2 egg breakfast, but when it arrived, our eggs and hash browns were not warm. We told our server and her response was "I grabbed it right when it was ready!" We weren't trying to blame her, but in a cold restaurant, we were at least wanting warm food. She offered to remake the food and it returned after quite a bit later warm but fairly flavorless. Just not a great standard breakfast. Ultimately I didn't finish and was just disappointed and sad at the experience.
The 2 stars was because the people working there all had smiles on their faces which I feel important for a breakfast restaurant.
I'm hoping to hear others go and share better experiences, but unless the ambiance and coffee flavor improve, breakfast out will be elsewhere for us.
