The 21 Best Restaurants In Chinatown - London - The Infatuation

"The Eight is a big, pine-heavy, canteen-style, Hong Kong-inspired teahouse that has an air of Muji about it. But you don’t come here for another LED diffuser, you come here for eggs. The whipped volcano egg—a whirling, swirling, mound of eggs with curry on the side—is as aesthetically pleasing as it is flavour-wise. Other things, like roasted meats and noodle soups, are decent enough, but you’re better off going with the moist, butter-laden, pineapple bun." - jake missing, heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna

Are These London Restaurants Worth The Hype? - London - The Infatuation

"The Verdict: It’s by no means a total flop, but it’s certainly not worth queuing for. The Eight has all the tells of a restaurant that’s done the rounds on TikTok: an anaconda-ish queue outside, phones poised on almost every table, and the distinct sense that you must have missed something as you pay the bill. The Hong Kong-style teahouse on Shaftesbury Avenue isn’t a dud, but its overly snapped aesthetic and swirling volcano eggs with curry aren’t good enough for you to pitch up outside either. The signature pineapple bun is light and sweet, the roasted meats aren’t up to par with other spots in Chinatown and, for the price you’re paying, you can do a lot better for the most part." - Sinead Cranna, Rianne Shlebak, Jake Oliver

Delicious Hong Kong style restaurant with a wide variety of choices. The volcano egg beef brisket curry and rice was amazing and egg was done perfectly! Kids really enjoyed the noodles and the hainanese chicken rice and baked tomato pork chop rice were also really tasty. Note that the baked pork chop rice will take a little longer to arrive compared to the other dishes so maybe give that a miss if you’re in a rush. What stood out the most was the exceptional service from all the staff! Waiters were polite and friendly and the lady who made our drinks was also super nice. It’s the little touches that make the difference! We will definitely return as there were many other dishes we wanted to try.

Nice and bright restaurant. Famous May Flower Restaurant before back in the days. Staff are friendly and nice. But they don’t approach the table unless you call them for giving order or needing of something. Nice selection in the menu with pictures which helps. Nice and cool with air con, however could be cold for some people. Good is very nice and is reasonably priced.

I loved this place! The salted egg toast was actually incredible, sweet and salty and perfect. I loved the volcano egg brisket curry too, never seen anywhere else in London serve these two dishes so I definitely recommend. The beef ho fun and Singapore noodles were good but not my favourite, the lemon chilli chicken was delicious! So tender and flavourful. Only dish that let me down was the roasted duck and rice. Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant though, great service too!

I saw many good reviews and thought this would be a good restaurant but I was met with disappointment. This Hong Kong style comfort food was not good at all! It did not meet expectations and we felt the price was too high for the inadequate quality of food. The flavors of the fish ball curry and the salted egg noodles were subpar. The Three kinds BBQ ( bbq pork, duck and crispy pig) was dry and tasteless. The Mala Siu Mai filling and hot sauce flavor did not match. The Curry beef brisket rice flavors were bland, this is the worst that I’ve eaten. We only liked the hot and sour soup and the black truffle seafood fried rice. This restaurant was very overrated and overly pricey, I would not recommend visiting. NY Chinese food is way better - come visit instead! NY is unmatched!!!!

Fantastic and scrumptious Cantonese style food! Made me nostalgic! Would come here again to try the rest of the menu!! Highly recommend the French toast and baked pork chop rice!!! We were seated quickly and service was great!

We were walking around Chinatown and found this new HK cafe, the menu looks authentic enough so we gave it a try. The food was good , close but not quite the same as HK but I would say it's of good UK standard. We were asked if we minded sharing a table which is very typical in hk. We didnt as we were tired already and wanted to sit down. We were downstairs so it was a bit tight. The food portions were good size, especially the chicken cutlet. I dont know where they find such big chicken tights!! It was tender and juicy, I would definitely order it again. Other things were good too. We would go again.

A Hong Kong styled restaurant with similar service vibes with a well spaced out interior. We tried: 🍞 Salt & pepper tofu 🥢 Sweet & sour chicken 🥓 Honey roast BBQ pork 🥓 Crispy pork and rice 🍜 Beef ho fun 🍚 Jasmine rice 🥣 Purple potato sago with tapioca We enjoyed all the meat dishes. The sweet and sour was very easy to eat. The honey roast BBQ pork was tender and thinly sliced. The crispy pork (siu yok) was beautifully cooked but I felt the ratio of rice to meat wasn’t quite right. The tofu pieces were big, golden and crispy but the exterior lacked flavour. The flavour came from the condiment toppings. The dessert was our favourite. Not too sweet, creamy with chewy pieces of tapioca, I will be back for this!

This restaurant isn't made for bigger groups. At least that's the vibe I got from The Eight. Very small napkins, missing cutlery and small tables. I feel like coming here with just another person or two would be the best experience. Besides that, the food was great. Generous portions and well seasoned. I definitely recommend eating at The Eight, but don't as a group of more than 3.
