My last week of unemployement, I took an impromptu day trip to Greenville, and at the end of the day, I wanted to check out a brewery. Eighth State came highly suggested by the craft beer community here in Charlotte, but I had never heard of it (which isn't surprising, I'm not sure that they distribute..but it would be rad if they did).
Driving in, I honestly thought I was in the wrong spot. It's in the bottom story of an architectural firm, and I *think* that parking is shared with the employees there. If not, I'm sorry, firm, for stealing one of your parking spaces! The space is relatively dark, but when I rolled in, people were just starting to get off work, so I got to see the place come alive.
I ended up getting a flight, as I do with most places, and the bartender helped me out a lot with what to try. The beer quality is out the wazoo. This is some cool, experimental stuff that you don't find at your run-of-the-mill brewery. They really put a lot of care and effort into crafting great, new things, and that's especially true with their sour program.
I saw some people next to me order food (think cheese board), but I didn't see a menu. There could be more!
I'd highly recommend Eighth State to anybody who seeks out delicious, well crafted brews. I wish I could get my hands on some here in Charlotte - I'll have to keep my eyes out. I should've gotten a crowler. Le sigh.
