Cocktails and beer were really good. They have an extensive menu all around. The fried zucchini comes in large spears, which was nice, but the breading lacked flavor. Since they say they are known for their rib eye, we gave it a shot. For some reason, mine came out paper thin and already cut in strips for me. I didn't understand that. My sister's came out twice the size of mine, with tons of fat, and cooked medium well when asked for medium rare. Both didn't have the flavor as expected by an establishment claiming they have the "best in town". For the kids meal, my son's hamburger bun was charred and my daughters chicken strips tasted like nothing. The halibut comes out with this country fried steak like white gravy poured over the top. It wasn't bad, just...interesting. Our server, Cole misinformed us on so many things. He was wrong about what ice cream flavors they had, what fruit comes with the kids menu, the amount of togo boxes to bring out. Eh. It was enough strikes not to be a returning customer.

Google
First time eating there in 15 yrs, it's changed! Great menu, portions were good sized, service was very good, probably the best hospitality I've had in years, and everyone was very friendly down to the busboys! Definitely will go again! We went on New Year's Eve, it was packed, had a group of 20+ people next to us that said a prayer before eating! Solid group of people! Parking lot was full so had to park on the street, not a big deal

Google
The service here during the holiday times were great! The food was spectacular! The aged ribeye was honestly one of the best steaks we have ever tried. The char on the steak, and the amount of flavor from each cut was to do for! Our Server was one of our main highlights too! She made sure we were well taken care of, and even gave us a suggestion on where to go for Christmas stuff afterwards! Thank you, April!

Google
The evening started off with cocktails. The pours were strong and, if beer is your thing, they have an extensive menu. However, after drinks everything went downhill. The fried zucchini was good. They come in large, thick spears, but the breading on them didn't have any flavor. Next the entrées. My kids ordered a hamburger meal and it came with an overcharred bun. The chicken strips were super bland and my daughter wanted fruit instead of fries. We asked our server, Cole, what fruit was in the fruit cup and he responded mellons and berries. When we got it, it was oranges, grapes, 2 cantaloupe, and some pineapple. They say they are known for their ribeye, but that is a joke. Mine was cut for me in strips for some reason and was paper thin. On the other hand, my sister's was twice as large and thick, but really fatty. They both tasted nothing like I would expect a promoted item woukd taste. We also got the halibut. It was strange as well. It had some like country fried steak gravy coating the top of it. The whole place just wasn't something we had in mind. When it came to ordering ice cream, again Cole gave us options. We ordered, and TWICE he came back saying they don't have those flavors! He mentioned 4 flavors. I ended up going next door and looking at the flavors and they had 8! Also the togo boxes are really small so get more if you plan to tasha food home. Not a great experience, so we won't be back.

Google
Cozy & casual! The food is plentiful & tasty. Fish & Chips was crunchy and not too greasy. The fish was a nice thick fillet. The tartar sauce was homemade & thick. The garlic peas flavorful & unique. Service was excellent and the dining area was fun & lively. Glad to have tried & will return for sure!

Google
It was a little cool out the Friday night when we ate in the outdoor section, and we sat in a spot in a corner which was exposed to the outside a bit. That didn't stop us from eating at all; the party had ribeyes, tenderloin, mac and cheese and it was all excellent. They know how to cook steaks at the right doneness, which can be hard to find. The place was packed, yet we only ended up waiting about 10 minutes. The bar area was really loud, but in the outdoor area, it was quiet. Definitely worth the trip.

Google
The Scoop is owned by The Eldo. Most generous scoop size i’ve ever seen! Minimal flavors but all uniquely made and super delicious. The Eldo is a south African owned restaurant. Its the place to bee if you want a fun date night out or if you want to enjoy some good drinks and eat quality food.

Google
Took the family here on an off-night during our Disneyland vacation, and it was just the vibe shift we needed - relaxed and roomy with an awesome patio dining area. Its technically Long Beach, but its basically a straight shot down Katella from the park hotels. Great food, massive portions for a reasonable price, excellent cocktails and draft list. The kids loved the ice cream scoop that was included with their kids meal from the attached ice cream parlor. The ice cream looked great but I was too stuffed from my Gatsby sandwich (a proper STEAK sandwich) to try any. 😅

Yelp
ELDO is one of our all-time favorite family restaurants. As a family of five, we truly appreciate how easy it is to get a reservation when we need one, suggest making. The staff treats us like family every time we walk in. Because we're regulars, they know our order and genuinely check in on us, which makes the experience feel extra special. The customer service and servers are always friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The food is consistently amazing. The chicken dumpling soup is my absolute favorite, the Wellington is chef's kiss, and the kids love the great ice cream selection. Great food, great service, and a place we'll happily keep coming back to. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
The Eldo has a super fun and casual vibe. Their menu really does have something for every palate, making it a great place to gather with friends, family, and more. It gets pretty loud because of the crowds, but it's still a nice and fun ambiance. My friend and I tried the Shrimp au Gratin, and it was amazing!! I would definitely get this appetizer again. For the main, we shared the ribeye after all the rave reviews. It was a very good steak, and the onion rings were amazing! The veggies were nothing to write home about, but we figured we better get some veggies in. We also tried the Malva Butter Cake, and it was HUGE. Delicious, and would've loved even more of the drizzle. They do take reservations. Also, they have big screen TVs for the various games. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Went here Saturday and I can't stop thinking about this meal, It was DELICIOUS! The steak was cooked to perfection and everything was just amazing, perfect date night spot! The crew was great as well, we received overall outstanding service We also added cheese bread and a side salad to the steak dinner and the salad was huge! Definitely a shareable and the bread again just delicious
google avatar

Sid D.

Yelp
We walked in without reservation and they make us sit right away on a Saturday night. Place was happening, ambiance was chill and everyone was in their own element. They got cool outside patio too. Food was simply delicious. We tried Mediterranean Salmon, lamb shank, and Malta butter cake for dessert and everything was great. All dishes tasted delicious and was made it to its perfection. Really love this place and we will be coming back soon.

Yelp
Awesome experience here. Every employee was so attentive and kind. I absolutely enjoyed this experience!

Yelp
The food is excellent & the service is outstanding. I typically have the French Dip. It can be split between 2 adults. Great pricing

Yelp
We came here Tonight for dinner and Ineas amazed by the service and the quality of food! I had the Salmon Pesto Pasta, and my husband had the Rib Eye. Everything was delicious and the vibe and energy was a fun time!
google avatar

Mari C.

Yelp
DO NOT! and I repeat, DO NOT order the French Onion Soup as it is so delicious it will and I repeat, it will ruin any future French Onion Soup experiences may you have. Mmmm.... Yummmmmm!!!!

Yelp
The Eldo is a bar/pub with South African flavors and it's located off Studebaker and Spring in Long Beach, across the street from El Dorado Park. I came for happy hour on a weekday and they offered $2 off appetizers. I got sliders, veggie samosas, and a side of fries. I feel that the sliders tasted great. The buns were light and nicely buttered, they came with a "pink sauce", and the beef and caramelized onions nicely rounded out the burger. The samosas were my favorite item of the meal. It packed flavors that you don't normally get in an Indian-style samosa. Maybe because they serve the samosas with sweet chili sauce rather than chutneys; however, I would order it again. As for the fries, I felt that they were crispy; however, I felt as if it had an aftertaste that I didn't enjoy. If I get fried dishes, then I'd probably go with onion rings; however, I think that I'd like to try more of their South African offerings as they're unique!
google avatar

Nanette A.

Yelp
The food was on point and our waitress was excellent. I don't order chicken often but really wanted to try something I have never had. So I ordered the Peri Peri chicken and informed it would be spicy so I had the sauce placed on the side. Ribeye was juicy and is a must try for sure. Inside is pretty dim with plenty of t.v. for all to view. Would definitely be back again!Thank you Peyton!!!
google avatar

Steve L.

Yelp
Margaritas with requested Don Julio blanco tequila were great! Both Garlic Bread and Fried Zucchini were temperature hot and delicious. Ribeye steaks were tender and flavorful. The Shrimp Linguine was full of juicy extra large shrimp. I cannot wait to go back!

Yelp
Stopped by to try this out after golf. We came around 5pm on a Sunday and the wait was about 45 minutes. It didn't seem packed due to seeing a good amount of empty tables but we didn't question it and waited. We got seated outside where they're were only about 4 heater lamps. Definitely not enough to cover all tables, or the one we sat in. The South African food was delicious, however anything that was considered bar/pub food was mediocre. I enjoyed the lamb samosas, and prawn curry the most. We also tried the fries which was a pretty small basket for what it cost, and the steak nachos. The cheese was a weird light orange color, not sure what it was made of. My biggest critique would be the service. When my friend asked for steak sauce and a box to go, multiple servers forgot and ended up giving us other peoples items. Our main server was apologetic on their behalf, but it seemed like the restaurant was low on staff. I would definitely give this place a try again, and would stick to the South African dishes.

Yelp
My son found The Eldo for his bday dinner. He wanted to make sure he could watch the Final Four games and this spot has a lot of TV's! I made a reservation for a party of 10 the day before and was accommodated with the stipulation that everyone ordered entrees per the manager. I'm not sure how they would dictate that as it wasn't stated again upon being seated; but it was not an issue. The waitress was on her JOB and managed our party well. Everyone enjoyed their food except my friend that ordered the filet, she wanted MedWell; but got MedRare...they re-did the whole meal. It's a cool vibe here with a large indoor/outdoor space that includes a covered patio. Now parking kinda sucks once the lot is full; but we parked off Spring St. I will definitely return.

Bethany K.

Yelp
This place is confusing, we've gone in twice now on a weekday at like 4:58 and maybe 5:15 pm so very early and both times get told it's full for reservations and every single seat is empty, not even joking. Just a very very bizarre business model to hold your entire inside restaurant except for uncomfortable high top bar seating for reservations when you are turning away business left and right at the door who most likely could have eaten and been out by these dire reservations. Haven't eaten here as a result because we keep getting rejected, not sure I'll try again.

Shom N.

Yelp
Excellent service, great menu, very helpful staff. Perfect for big groups, meetings, etc. Good for children!
google avatar

Yelp
I was looking forward to this awesome solo dinner and I thought the food here was good! However the burger came out; the top. I'm was completely charred, the fries were so salty I couldn't finish them. The only saving grace was the martini..
google avatar

Brenda H.

Yelp
First time and we are definitely going back. We sat outside in the covered patio. Even at 7 PM in August, it felt really comfortable. It's well shaded. We loved the garlic bread appetizer, and fried zucchini. It was the best fried zucchini I've ever had. Very crispy batter. We had the beef Wellington, which was delicious. Sliders were juicy and flavorful. The fries were amazing. They have a glorious batter on them that makes them so crispy. Our top favorite dish was the Monte Cristo sandwich.
google avatar

Victoria P.

Yelp
Aidan is a great server and the food is always delicious. Tried the newly added Monte Cristo and it didn't disappoint.
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered to go for my husbands birthday. We couldn't make it out to the restaurant because we all caught a summer cold but the take out was just as good. It was fresh and neatly packaged. I would definitely order to go again. Meal was ready in 20 minutes. It is tricky to park over there sometimes as the parking lot is not that big but you can get lucky and find a space. They also have spaces dedicated for to go pick up.

Yelp
My family moved to the area a year ago and I feel like we're regulars. We dine here perhaps once every other month, if not more so. We've been here enough to know they don't have apple juice, the kids burger doesn't come with cheese, rainbow grilled cheese is solid, the hubby gets the LBC IPA. This was our go-to spot for easy local dinner with good food and atmosphere for our two preschoolers. But after a recent outting, I'm not so sure it will be on our rotation. My family and I were dining with the in-laws who were in town. We were seated by two moms with 5 young children who were unruly. They played under the table, they ran around the patio area and bumped into the MIL chair a few times. This was ... not normal behavior a dining environment. We were not a Chuck E. Cheese or Dave and Busters. We were at the Eldo, which is very family friendly, but again, it's not Chuck E Cheese. The staff or the manager did not seem to care or mind the chaos that was happening. The in-laws were biting their tongue and tolerant of the situation until one of the kids tried to grab the fire distinguished off the wall. That was when shit it the fan. The FIL got up to stop the child from grabbing the fire extinguisher. There were some heated words exchanged and that party left. Afterwards, the manager sort of victim shamed us, saying we should've asked to be moved to another table instead of letting things get to that point. I don't think things were handled properly and it has left a bad taste in my mouth. Needless to say, we have not been back since.
google avatar

Jan R.

Yelp
My sister and I were both virgins to The Eldo. We had just experienced The British Invasion Tribute concert at the Carpenter Theatre, and were excited for another adventure. All of the staff we had dealings with were extremely friendly, nice and helpful. We decided to sit in the bar, because they were very busy, as a football game was on the million TVs all over the place. It was a fun crowd! April was our server, and she was absolutely the best!! Our drinks were yummy and we both had BLTs with cheese and avocado added. So that made them BLTCAs...they were tasty! The Eldo is kinda loud...especially with a football game going on, but it's fun! And with the staff being so accommodating, especially April, we will definitely be back, and bring friends and family with us! Thank you, Eldo for a great time!!
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
Brought our friend who is from South Africa here hoping that she would get a little taste of home. She is from Durban, and we saw that this restaurant had Durban Lamb Curry. The ambiance was nice, and the restaurant was busy, so we knew the food must be pretty good. Our party got the ribeye, surf and turf (ribeye with shrimp), Sheppards pie, and the lamb curry. Our friend LOVED the curry and said it reminded her of home. The pie was also good, and my surf and turf (ribeye cooked medium) was cooked perfect. Unfortunately the temp for my friend's ribeye was not cooked medium-well as she requested. But other than that definitely worth a try!

Yelp
Eldo as in El Dorado Park- hidden gem!!! Locals definitely know about this - reservations are a must or you won't get in at meal time!! inside bar area, a little noisy large outside area- cozy, but nice restaurant vibe. The food is amazing ! Family, friendly kid portions are absolutely huge. Adult portions you're guaranteed to take home leftovers unless you're hungry. All the desserts we tried were amazing. The restaurant is connected to an ice cream stop next-door Scoops. Lots of wonderful flavors to choose from for all the desserts as they go next-door for the ice cream and their dessert items. The service was very attentive and fabulous! We highly recommend the Shepherd pie, the fish and chips and the beef Wellington! The parking lot is small and tight. You can tell locals are welcome as there is bicycle parking. What would make this perfect for me is if they had at least one ice cream item that was lactose free! Although we live close, this would be a restaurant we would definitely go to even if it was an hour away. It is worth the drive and if you're visiting Southern California, you gotta try this place out!
google avatar

Alexis B.

Yelp
Had a truly amazing dining experience here! I was looking for a good beef Wellington for my husband and stumbled upon this hidden gem that is a known favorite for local Long Beachers! Our server was super fun and helpful and gave some great recommendations! The inside is a pub-y bar meets nice date feel without being too stuffy. I hear they have a nice patio that is good for families and a little brighter seating. I do plan to return!
google avatar

Brooke P.

Yelp
This place was great! Food was on point and the service was even better. Everything we ordered was excellent, but shout out to the giant pretzel which stole my kid's hearts and to the insane Gatsby Sandwich that could literally feed 3 people. The menu was very kid friendly (kids meals include ice cream at the end!!) but don't let that fool you, the vibes were right and I could see leaving them at home for a date night in the future. Portions are generous, so we left happy! Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Bit of backstory (per usual): I disc golfed for YEARS at El Dorado Park, and this spot is always in the line of sight walking to hole 3. So I finally gave it a shot, and I've now been a regular for years, but it's time for a review. Ambiance: I'm greeted EVERY TIME I've walked inside. Always with a smile. I sit at the bar, as I'm by myself most of the time (dating is trash lol). I'm probably butchering the spelling, but I used to come for Anastasia. I think I've put this in most of my reviews, but guest connection is imperative to me because going out is still an experience. It still costs money. But man, miss her working there, but the other servers/bartenders are all incredible! Service: It was a busy night because of the Lakers game. The bartender was busy, but as soon as I sat down, she said she'd be right with me. Acknowledged me immediately; her awareness was comparable to Spider-Man. I don't even think I was completely sitting now that I think about it. I got there, started to pull the chair out, and THEN she said that. As the youths say, she was "quick with it." My Buffalo Trace neat arrived promptly. And I was talked into a Ribeye. I love meat. Pause. Food: My ribeye was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. I'm a fast eater. I feel that most guys just demolish meals with no remorse for the time it took to cook it. Ha ha. But I took my TIME eating it. It was phenomenal. As you can see in the picture, I took a few bites before remembering I wanted to review it. I was salivating more than Pavlov's dogs. The steak looked and smelled so good, it made me FORGET to take the picture. Wrap-Up: Great experience as always. 10/10.

Yelp
Not my first time here, but it's a go to place in all of SoCal. Great servers, awesome food - look at the pork chop!

Yelp
I had dinner with my children bday 21 worst service ever and didn't appreciate the baby rats sharing our dinner and playing on the floor... TRUTH! And not just me other customers of mine saw them too . Mgmt blamed it on the gas station delivery! Rat feces and urine is fatal and disgusting . Call the health dept

Yelp
The food was excellent. We had the Beef Wellington. The service was the best. Very attentive staff and really appreciated the great service. Great place!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Best rib eye in town!! The menu is robust, though we keep ordering the same thing becauae it is that good. Empress cocktail for me, hubby smoked old fashioned, giant pretzel to share, ribeye, baked potato and the malva butter cake We keep coming back bringing friends and neighbors with us. Sharing the pretzel and dessert makes it perfect. Service is always great.
google avatar

Yelp
Clean, great food, wonderful staff. Always packed with good clientele and parking can be a challenge but the fact that it is always full is a testament to the quality of the food, drinks (my GFs favorite margarita) and super friendly, professional staff. Pricy but definitely a higher level dining experience. We love the place. Never disappoints
google avatar

Corey S.

Yelp
My daughter's rehearsal dinner was here. Not from Long Beach but this place has been around since the 50s. Tons of food options, the steaks were really good and those people that had the tacos were raving about them. We had the pretzel, bacon wrapped dates along with fried zucchini. All were delicious. Wednesdays you get half off bottles of wine, their is an exception to that special but should be a problem The person who took care of us did a really great job, apparently he has a fine dining job also so that only helped out for us. We sat on the indoor patio which has lights hanging and made for a great experience.
google avatar

Rici T.

Yelp
Every dish we've had is amazing. Best fish and chips around that's for sure. Their stuffed PorkChop was to die for. The honey chicken sliders were so mouth watering and tasty. We plan on going there again soon. We go every 2 weeks or so. If you go after 6pm you do want to make a reservation. They get pretty packed and for good reason. Very friendly staff and the owner pops out to say hi every now and then. He's always working in the back. Fully recommend this place.
google avatar

E.J. A.

Yelp
Such a delightful business. Plenty of parking out front, unless it is during the dinner rush hour or a big game is on TV. We were greeted by friendly staff at the front and caught a drink at the fully stocked bar. By the way, they have a great whisky and craft beer section. We got a variety of different main dishes and shared. Waite staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. We finished with ice cream for dessert (They are connected to the ice cream shop next door). Great ambiance, friendly staff, delicious food, full bar, clean restaurant, well maintained restroom facilities, parking lot, comfortable environment. All and all, an excellent visit!

Susan D.

Yelp
Always enjoy the food experience at the Eldo. The staff is exceptional and the community ambience is wonderful. I run into people I know and there all the time and they all love coming to the Eldo on a regular basis too. The seating outside is very nice and inviting.
google avatar

Candice A.

Yelp
The ceasar salad was really good. I love that they put freshly shaved Parmesan and crispy bacon on top. The fish was light and crisp and really tasty. We didn't get a picture of the ice cream but it was really good. The staff gave the best service. I love how all of the staff helped each other and were very helpful.

An T.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place the food the staff the drinks the bartender who works Wed - Sat are AMAZING.

malcolm

Yelp
The food here is excellent and indulgent. The staff are very polite and helpful, although they often seem overworked when I come here. The prices are reasonable. Parking is limited and you may have to park residential streets and walk a bit, but it's well worth the walk! Only downside is when they have musical guests perform, as they almost always suck and are inevitably too loud.
google avatar

Yelp
This "hidden" gem. 2 words Beef Wellington = chefs kiss Great atmosphere. Come in have a drink or two, watch some football and enjoy a great meal

Terry M.

Yelp
This was my first time here, although I've been wanting to go for some time now. We came 11 deep for a birthday, unplanned, and they were still able to accommodate with a smile - thank you. :) It's tucked away, and when you drive by it just seems like a dive bar with a bit more parking than usual, but let me assure you it is anything but that. The food was amazing, they have a mix of Americana and South African dishes. I got the Durbin Style Lamb Curry w/ Papadals, Sambals, and Chutney and it was beyond expectation. My kids got the Eldo Burger combo w/ blueberry cheesecake shakes and loved it, my wife got the Peri-Peri Chicken and was thoroughly pleased, and other got items like the Surf n' Turf and Stuffed Pork Chop. Long story short, every dish we got was phenomenal. :) The ambiance is that of a pub and grill, nice restaurant type seating on one end and a sports pub vibe on the other, there was also some outdoor seating as well. In all it was everything I hoped it would be and more; we will definitely be returning, and I hope to see you there! :)

Greg S.

Yelp
All around excellent. Prices are reasonable in today's turbulent times and the food is outstanding with excellent beverages. Recent remodel of the property and very comfortable. Our wait staff were never far away and took good care of us!

Yelp
First time eating here at The Eldo and just might be one of my new favorite eateries here in Long Beach! Great food, portions, ambiance, customer service and taste! Wait, excellent customer service might I say!!!! Never had I had Beef Wellington but this might be my new favorite dish! HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you are visiting The Eldo!

Donna B.

Yelp
Service is very nice. Restaurant is clean but the food is just not great. My Shepard pie had 1 piece of meat. Literally, no meat. So disappointing. Potatoes greasy and tasted like they had been reheated. My husband chicken fried steak tasted of old oil. Really bad. I really want to like it but it's not very good.

Tom E.

Yelp
The food and service were both great. We ate in the bar area and there were 5 of us. Everyone liked their food a lot and our waitress was really on top of everything.
google avatar

Aileen F.

Yelp
It's been a while since my last visit and the Eldo still remains a gem. Delicious food, friendly service in an easygoing setting. We really enjoyed our dishes and look forward to the next time we visit.

Rich H.

Yelp
Food is very good, large portions. Staff always friendly. Bar staff is excellent: Bri, Kelly, Em, Ashley always friendly, very efficient.

r.e t.

Yelp
The food did not disappoint. Husband was very pleased with the steak. The service was attentive and the consistent. The ambiance was crowded compared to how it has been in the past. There is more seating space than before, but more seating also means a change to the ambiance from cozy to not so cozy. The parking lot is not quite adequate for the patrons that the restaurant holds. Best to get there early if you have a reservation to find parking.
google avatar

Denise P.

Yelp
We always get great service here. The staff are always friendly and attentive. Our server last night was outstanding. I've always sat at the bar. They play great music. I highly recommend the Peri-Peri Chicken. This dish was dynamite. That peri peri packed a punch of spices right into your mouth. Upgraded fries for mash potatoes. I will never order the Tri Tip Dip again. It was not my jam. I didn't really feel like it had much flavor. Very plain. The only thing I enjoyed eating were the fried onions on top. Upgraded the fries to garlic fries and they came out cold. Wasn't a fan.

Yelp
Great food and drinks, we had the filet mińon and pork chops, with mashed potatoes and vegetables, the food is delicious and worth coming back for! Try the the mixed drinks
