The Empire Hotel

We got married in New York City during the weekend of our stay. We were pleasantly surprised when we checked in. The Empire Hotel upgraded us to a suite. The room was beautiful and very spacious. The hotel itself was breathtaking. Every member of their staff were pleasant and very professional. They have a rooftop pool and a Restaurant with an outdoor lounge that offers beautiful views. They are directly located across the street from Lincoln Center. It's a very walkable and safe area with many restaurants close by and lots of pretty sights. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning to stay in New York City

I absolutely love the area this hotel is in. It has a cute little pocket park in front, several great restaurants right outside their door, and walking distance to many great things. I did not feel nervous walking around at night as a woman here. The hotel itself is nice. The bathroom was incredibly small, but the room was good-sized. The bed was pretty comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would totally recommend this hotel to anyone.

We enjoyed our week long stay here Great location. Close to Central Park and restaurants as well as a CVs right around the corner. The front desk as well as the men helping us hail cabs and with our luggage were all friendly and extremely helpful. I loved that a crib was available for my 5 month old. I also loved the crib had padding around it because my daughter likes her head to touch the edge. The room itself was comfortable and had refrigerator fir our drinks.

This should not be advertised as a luxury hotel. The lobby is beautiful and the rooftop bar is fun. The location is great and the staff was friendly and helpful. But the rooms are not nice. And let’s face it, that’s really what you’re paying for. There is no coffee service in the rooms. The TV did not work. The air conditioner was very old and loud and filthy/ moldy. The curtains over the windows draped over the AC so you had to choose between AC or privacy. The carpet is old and dirty. The overall vibe is dark and vampire-ish. There was an iron but no ironing board. And the bottom of the bathroom door was rotting off. Old historic, beautiful hotel in prime location with really bad rooms. THIS IS NOT A LUXURY HOTEL.

The hotel is in an excellent location—right across the street from Lincoln Center and close to subways, Central Park, great restaurants, and shopping. The staff was friendly, helpful, and responsive, especially Pasquale and a woman, also at at check-in (I wish I had her name to thank her personally, but I didn’t see her again). They put up with some pitiful whining from me (after a red eye) with good humor and made my first day a joy. The room had effective air-conditioning, a necessity in a New York summer, and a blissfully comfortable bed. Although old, the building is lovely and well maintained. We didn’t take advantage of the plunge pool on the roof or the rooftop bar, but our daughter said it was nice.Our daughter and four grandchildren had a room on a different floor, and both rooms were very quiet. For the location and condition of the room, I thought it was a great value. Our daughter’s room (for six people) could have used more drawer space, but that is a small thing. We ate at several restaurants in the area, and all were excellent, although more expensive than what you can find farther away from Lincoln Center. Can’t think of a single criticism. I would go back.

Listing and advertising this location as a 4 star is disingenuous as the state of the rooms are 3 star AT BEST on a good day. The AC vents are dirty and the control consul is haphazardly placed with the wires exposed. The lighting is drab and presents an overall stuffy feeling. They list this place for 300$ on their main website which frankly is criminal. The wallpaper is peeling and the lobby REEKS of old cigarettes. This place has so much potential if they would just renovate it. Most of the staff was very accommodating and helpful except for one yodel that worked the night/ early morning shift. He had the tenacity to cop attitude with me when I made extra requests for an umbrella after waiting nearly 30 minutes to receive one in my room. Only stay if you get a discount from a third party booking site or for a short duration. NOT

This hotel is in desperate need of a total renovation. Rooms are very small. TV was a 28” flat screen. AC was so loud it kept my family from sleeping and could not cool room below 79 degrees. Entrance door to our room had a broken top hinge so the door did not open or close properly. My wife and kids could not open or close the door. This is a major safety concern. We made the staff aware and they would not replace the broken hinge. Their idea of repairing the door was to squirt WD40 in the lock. The toilet was the size of a camper toilet and is crammed in a corner that makes it nearly impossible to use if you’re larger than a small child. The refrigerator in the room did not work at all so we lost our first night of leftover food and all snacks. They brought us a “new” fridge which also did not work at all. They moved us to a new room after 2 nights and the new room at least had a functioning entrance door but the AC did not work in this room either. Engineering came to the room 2x to try to get the AC to work and finally the hotel offered to move us to a 3rd room at 9:30pm. The 3rd room did not have a 2nd bed so we would have had half the family sleeping on the floor. The next morning we were offered a chance to move however, again the new room was a bed short. The location of this hotel was ideal for our trip to NYC. The reviews looked good which is why we chose the hotel. For the price we could have stayed at a much nicer hotel. Do NOT believe the positive reviews. This hotel must pay to filter out bad reviews. Other guests we met at the hotel were similarly disgusted and upset. One of the worst hotels I’ve stayed at in the last 20 years.

This hotel was better than expected! Great location to many things. Roof top restaurant was awesome; great view, service and food. The lobby was beautiful and comfortable. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Smaller than a typical hotel room but very comfortable bed with a good layout to fit things in neatly and provide storage. I would say the room, sheets and towels were all very clean especially the bathroom. Overall the hotel was darkly decorated and seemed to have dim lighting. The service was some of the best ever. Helpful kind and professional! We would stay there again and have already recommended it to others. Thank you for a great trip.
