Young Joni’s Back Bar Reopens with a Tasting Menu Experience - Eater Twin Cities

"The Fabled Rooster is the newest food truck to open a stand inside North Loop’s food hall Graze. The former food truck joins other formerly mobile vendors Moral Omnivore and MidNord Empanadas along with several other small operations inside the two year old food hall. Dishes dip into Southern-style with catfish po’ boy, Carolina barbecue dressed pulled pork sandwich, and a jalapeño popper burger. Orders will soon be available for delivery and takeaway." - Joy Summers

Finding parking around rush hour can be tricky, but once you manage to find a spot, this hidden gem is truly worth the effort. The food is outstanding full of flavors that completely surprised me. I ended up trying dishes I normally wouldn’t consider, and each one turned out to be delicious. It’s a good reminder not to judge a dish by its appearance, or what youbthunk might not be good, because once you take that first bite, you’ll be pleasantly suprised. Every item I sampled was prepared beautifully and was full of flavor. On top of that, the staff were welcoming and attentive, which made the experience even better. And before you leave, do yourself a favor and order one of their signature drinks, it make the whole visit so perfect.

Twins Pregame BBQ at Graze in North Loop Before the Twins day game, we stopped at The Fabled Rooster inside Graze in the North Loop—and it didn’t disappoint. We tried the pulled pork and brisket plates, and both were excellent. The brisket was especially tender with a rich, smoky flavor, while the pulled pork was juicy and well-seasoned. Sides were solid too—the baked beans, and the collard greens were bright and tangy, possibly our favorite bite of the meal. The pickled red onions and house pickles added a great contrast, and the Texas toast rounded things out nicely. Lots of different BBQ sauces to choose from. Portions were just right for lunch. Everything tasted fresh and carefully prepared. If there’s one critique, it’s that the brisket was a bit fatty—delicious but tough to finish the whole portion. If you’re in the North Loop and in the mood for BBQ, The Fabled Rooster is a worthy stop. Grab a drink, find a spot on the patio, and take in the views of the old warehouse district now buzzing with breweries, and great food.

I love the people who work here first of all very welcoming. My fav thing here is the brisket it’s plentiful and delicious. The meats are elegantly smoked and it kinda gives you nostalgia if you ever grew up in the south. They recently added a couple sandwiches which are a must to try the BLT and the Turkey piled high with fried green tomatoes and a stellar sauce. The collars were a unique blend of flavors and I honestly ain’t mad at it. As you can see Ive been here a few times! Good people, Good food.

We captured a foodie influencer event with Fabled Rooster at Graze Food Hall by Travail, and we were seriously blown away by the quality, care, and passion Chef Shaun & his team have and put into creating this incredibly tasty food! Blown away by the beef brisket egg rolls (yes you read that right!!) they’re spicy and completely delectable! The truffle fries were a DREAM and the Waygu beef brisket in the family feast spread is something that will live rent free in my mind forever! A MUST try, come hungry because you will leave sooo FULL with delicious meats + sides made with alll the love!

Google
Brisket sandwich was fire 🔥, pickles were a perfect add i wasnt expecting bread was nicely toasted, I got the extra "add a link" best decision I made all day, I got to meet Shaun the chef/owner, he was very personable and down to earth! Can't wait to come back and share with my friends

Google
The best barbecue I have had in Minnesota. The brisket was cook to perfection with great flavor and the Gouda potato salad was to die for. 1693/10

Google
Collard greens were dynamite- loved them. Brisket is good, nice bark. The acid in the pickles and onions fit in well! Enjoy-

Yelp
Tried a little bit of everything- Highlights were the pulled pork sandwich and the coleslaw! Both are top notch. Generous portions, Staff are super friendly and helpful. Great Vibe, excellent BBQ! Highly recommend.

Yelp
I recently visited Fabled Rooster at Graze Libations + Provisions for the first time for the first time and was absolutely blown away. From your first encounter at the stall ordering up your food you are greeted by friendly folks that are happy to help you pick out delightful dishes. I ordered a smattering of heavy hitting dishes including: Cajun Fries with Pork | Perfectly Fried Crinkle Cut Fries with Cajun Black Truffle Salt and White Truffle Oil, Covered with Parmigiano and Secret Sauce, and a Heaping of Pulled Pork. Brisket Rolls | Two Egg Rolls Packed Full of Smoked Brisket and Pimento Cheese and Secret Sauce to Dunk Them In. BBQ Plate with Brisket and Smoked Gouda Potato Salad | Melt in Your Mouth Brisket with Texas Toast, Pickled Red Onions, Homemade Bread & Butter Pickles. I got the Cherry Bomb BBQ Sauce and it's the BOMB. The Potato Salad was a balance of Richness and Smokiness. Pulled Pork Sandwich | Juicy Pulled Pork on a Cornbread Hamburger Bun Topped with Homemade Pickles and a Tangy Carolina Gold BBQ Sauce. I would order every dish again and can't wait to make it out again!

Yelp
Went back a second time the other night for more brisket! Service is excellent and guys are friendly! The cook serves up mean plates!! Going back tonight as it's the last night in Minnie. All their food is 10 stars! Generous portions and won't disappoint! My dilemma ...the burger with special sauce or the last of that tasty brisket??? Ugh!!

Yelp
I am quite disappointed in this place from a food perspective. I found the meat not very flavorful and a tad overcooked, which left parts of the rib tips tougher and dry. However, the different BBQ sauces were tasty and some of them unique in flavors. Which is great because you definitely need the sauce to make the food appetizing. The only positives about this place is that it's in an excellent and convenient location. There is plenty of seating and other activities to do inside the food hall, which makes this a cool spot to visit and enjoy since you have other food options nearby. Also, service is quick and pricing was more than fair for the amount of food you get.

Yelp
Inside Graze, on the first level, you'll find The Fabled Rooster. Their Cajun Truffle Fries immediately caught our eye, and we were sold after we saw the option to add Pulled Pork. The fries were meaty, the Cajun seasoning was flavorful, and the pulled pork was perfectly cooked. The aioli and green onion were a bit overwhelming in places, so we picked around them. We sat on the patio and enjoyed it with a beer/cider. It all paired beautifully to create a wonderful Friday date night experience.

Yelp
I would definitely have another burger at the Fabled Rooster. It was absolutely perfect and fries were delicious as well, although the portion of fries could have been more with the burger.

Yelp
These brisket rolls are out of this world. I wasn't expecting something quite as good. Instead, I figured it would be a plain egg roll shell with a bit of brisket - I was dead wrong. These were every bit of incredible and worth the money and wait. (although they aren't that expensive, nor did they take that long). Even if you're not planning on eating a full meal from the Fabled Rooster, I would highly recommend these as an appetizer.

Yelp
My wife and I were on our weekly new place for lunch Saturday. I am always open for a new BBQ place and The Fabled Rooster is in a newish Food Hall. We entered the establishment and there were a lot of good selections in here, Hmong Kitchen, tacos, but I was here for BBQ. I ordered the pulled pork plate with the baked beans. It comes with Texas toast, which was probably the best part of the meal. Hey, butter on toast, what could go wrong? The guy behind the counter was super nice and our meal was ready in about five minutes. I ordered a beer across the way for $9! What!!!!!???? $9 for a beer. Well this is the last time I come to this place. Our plate came out and the pork was really dry, and the spicy BBQ sauce wasn't very spicy at all. The food all around wasn't hot at all, barely warm. The beans were not very flavorful at all and they were crunchy? I haven't had many crunchy beans, and they were tepid at best. I really wanted to love this place, but the meat was super dry and crunchy beans. Great guy behind the desk though.

Yelp
$35 for the shitty fries and lack luster burger Don't waste your money on this. Freezer burnt.
google avatar

Andrew J.

Yelp
Aesthetically pleasing to the eye but not to the taste bud .... very disappointed with the quality of the burger considering it was $20 alone , w no sides or drinks , and just the lack of flavor for that price was also very surprising

Yelp
I was in Minneapolis for a conference and ordered delivery from them, via Toast. While the pulled pork sandwich was delicious - I did not receive all the sides I ordered along with it (fries and coleslaw). I wouldn't have mind as much but with each side being an additional $5, I didn't get $10 of a $23.50 subtotal order... I was missing 42% of my order, not considering the delivery charges either. I tried calling several times to let them know, and left a message, but have not heard back - maybe they called back amid all the unknown numbers, but no voice message. I realize it may have been busy, but it should not be so hard to try to get in contact with them. So of what I did receive, it was fine, and it wasn't even all of it. Customer service was a bust.

Yelp
I ventured to @thefabledrooster for the first time on July 31st. Let's talk about .... I joined them for their late night menu and I grabbed the Pulled Pork Sammie with fries, and to the bar for a mango mucho marg. This place is located inside of @grazenorthloop which is a vibe all on its own. The place offers various eateries. But I landed at the The Fabled Rooster. *The Sandwich* If you know me then you know anything pulled pork or brisket related is my jam. So of course I am going to try it. The pork itself was very tasty and carried the right amount of smoke. The sandwich itself is plain with just sauce. If I had a suggestion it would definitely be to add a slaw or something to give it some kick. I'm giving it 7/10! *Fries* The fries are plain but super delicious. They have the right amount crunch, the perfect amount of salt, and just enough to fill you up. I enjoyed them. *The Mango Mucho Marg* Inside the location are a few bars. I indulged a mango mucho marg with the right serving of liquor to definitely fulfill the libations in the name. I definitely give the drinks 8/10. If you are ever in the area and decide to stop by tell them I sent you.

Yelp
I've heard fantastic things about this place, but I'm not sure if I was there on an off day or what. My brisket was dry and underwhelming, and overpriced for the 4 slices on the tray. The fried pickles on the other hand, were exactly what you'd expect hot, crispy, fried goodness.
google avatar

YiQing G.

Yelp
we ordered the fried pickles and it's pretty yummy! Got too excited to eat them and did not take any picture. I feel they are a bit understaffed (as we all are, everywhere). We went during the weekend but not peak hour, the line is quiet long and the wait was pretty long for the food to be read. I want to give it one more try for their other food during our next visit.

Yelp
Great location and vibe, good ribs, not so good brisket and potato salad. I liked the ribs, nice and unique flavor (is that coffee in the rub?) and the perfect tenderness of falling off the bone with just a little tug. They were not very hot though nor were they very juicy. They weren't dry though either so depending on what they are trying to do they may be cooked exactly as intended. The brisket unfortunately was very fatty throughout (not just a fat cap), refrigerator cold, not noticeable smoke ring and a small portion. My wife nibbled a few meatier parts but left most of it untouched. Not worth the $17 it set me back. Potato salad was certainly unique and an interesting flavor, but the texture was not to my taste as the dressing was very thick as if made with cream cheese instead of mayo. I had been trying to get lunch here several times and it has always been closed. Today was no exception but about 12:30 it opened up. Really good BBQ has gotten expensive and I'll gladly pay if the quality is there. Fabled Rooster is certainly on the expensive side but in the end I didn't think the food measured up.

Yelp
Here on a Saturday shortly after 11am and Graze is still quiet, lots of seating indoors and outside. Most of the foot traffic is gathered around Avocadish. My first choice Soul Bowl was unfortunately closed (!!) so by default I wandered to The Fabled Rooster and I'm not sad about the outcome. Because it was my second time walking around looking at menus, the staff asked if I had any questions. The burger selection was limited to only the chef burger that morning. I asked about the sides, debating between baked beans or smoked gouda potato salad. The beans came highly recommended - they did not disappoint at all. Service was super friendly and helpful - they explained the "delivery charge" on the receipt which was really a Graze service charge applied to all orders. One could've assumed as much but nice for them to explain upfront to avoid any customer misunderstanding. Let's talk about the burger. Pillowy bun, almost medium well beef, perfectly melted cheese, sauce, pickles - it wasn't a substantial burger in terms of size but a well proportioned sandwich on all fronts. It certainly needs a side in order to round out the meal and baked beans were spot on the right combination. A small cup doesn't look like much but once you dig into the beans, it complements the burger perfectly and makes it a filling combo.

Robyn L.

Yelp
Oof, pretty average in my opinion. We went here on a date night and spent way too much money for a nothing to write home about BBQ plate. A brisket plate and order of fries came to $47. Price didn't match the amount or quality.
google avatar

Yelp
We really wanted to like Fabled Rooster, but we ended up thinking it was pretty meh. The best parts of our meals were the portion sizes (you will NOT go hungry, they are huge), the BBQ sauces (yummy), and the baked beans. However, the meats were dry and overall not very good (definitely do not get the brisket), and the collard greens were not our favorite. While we love the food hall this place is in, we probably won't get food from this stall again.

Yelp
Visited The Fabled Rooster on a Sunday afternoon. The Fabled Rooster is a stand within Graze Provisions. The atmosphere is this place is fun and there was plenty of open seating as it was quiet this particular day. I ordered the brisket rolls. This dish comes with 2 good sized brisket rolls, a dip, and a few slices of pickles. This food was the perfect size for an afternoon snack. The brisket rolls were super tasty and enjoyable. I really loved them. The reason I am giving this restaurant 4 stars is because of the service. No one seems to care we wanted their food. We got dirty looks just for coming up to the counter and the employees were on their phones almost the entire time we were there. The chef was very nice when he gave us our food but that was it.

Yelp
The Fabled Rooster was my second bbq place to try in Minneapolis. I came away ok with my meal. Ordered the St Louis Ribs meal with potato salad, and picked up Rib Tips as well. The St Louis Ribs were definitely fall off the bone and tasty. The sauce I got was a little on the sweet side for me but it was ok. The Rib Tips were hearty pieces. I enjoyed them as a late night snack and I loved their meatiness. I think I had four sauces to choose from and the one I picked I wasn't that impressed. My order was take out and the service was good. Didn't take long to wait for my order. I would have liked a sampler combo so that I could try several meats but they were only available as large family orders.
google avatar

Amanda I.

Yelp
Must try BBQ if you are hitting up Graze. The rib tips were on special and I will add they are something special.....super flavorful and get amount of meat on the tips. Get both the spicy and regular bbq sauce. Anytime fried pickles are on a BBQ joints menu they are a must try and these didn't disappoint. They come with some type of white sauce that has just the right amount of punch to go with the pickle. Also good with a good cocktail from Graze

Yelp
Great place for a fast casual plate of BBQ, and thee truffle fries might be the best I've ever had anywhere. This was a fun place to gather and eat after a Twins game since it is only about a block northeast of the stadium. This place is part of the Graze Provisions & Libations location which has several fast casual restaurants co-located in the same building, and I like the outdoor dining area.

Kay K.

Yelp
We tried to eat here before a weeknight Twins game. 10 minutes in line, then they told us 30-40 minutes or more for food. Maybe the meats were all still in the smoker. Might try again when we have more time.

Yelp
As you can see I ate my food before taking a picture because it smelled amazing! I enjoyed this combo of pork pulled sandwich and potato salad! I do wish I got more sauce especially it was pricey for this combo. Will stop by again in the future and will remember to ask for more source!

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch recently and had a great experience! The restaurant is Veteran owned and serves up some delicious Southern Style BBQ. The brisket I had was juicy and tender. The sides were tasty and the brisket egg rolls were amazing! Definitely stop by for a visit if you're in the Twin Cities! * Brisket Platter- Brisket, Texas toast, and potato salad. * Brisket Egg Rolls.

Yelp
This is a tiny restaurant inside an upscale food court, so don't get confused when you get here & can't find it. Go in the grey doors and make a beeline for the back wall where you will find this little gem. This is legit. The ribs were smokey, well seasoned, tender, moist, and the dry rub was excellent. We got sauce samplers & each were both exactly as described, and delicious! My personal favorite was the cherry cola BBQ sauce, which I found just the right amount of sweet, spicy, savory, and puckery... The coleslaw was great! You definitely get a hit of the apple cider vinegar which brings a pleasant twist to an otherwise standard coleslaw. The potato salad was a bit bland, but the potatoes were cooked perfectly. Can't wait to go back & try the brisket! Next time we'll go earlier to ensure they don't sell out before we get to try it!
google avatar

Shelby H.

Yelp
This spot is located in Graze and it features barbecue food and you could also order a cheeseburger here. I ordered the chefs burger and then we also ordered a barbecue burger, a side of fried pickles, and the potato salad. The burger was pretty tasty, it could've been juicier and could've had a little bit more flavor but it was still pretty good and the fried pickles were phenomenal. The barbecue burger was good but i think it could use a little more sauce or maybe just a little more seasoning. Overall, I would definitely go back here and try the other items.

Edward K.

Yelp
I feel ripped off and cheated from this place. Got charged a delivery fee although I dined in. When asked about it, they told me their POS puts it on and they can't take it off. Supposedly it's to "help pay for their employee's healthcare". Food wasn't worth it. No smoke taste, cold, and dry.
google avatar

Jordan S.

Yelp
Great pickles, great buns, great sauce (the cola one is my favorite) and Dave is super cool and extremely smart. He knows what they sell and will not steer you wrong. We had the pulled pork sandwich and it was great. Not the cheapest but one of the best I have ever had for sure. I will be back.
google avatar

Candy H.

Yelp
Food was good, not great for the experience we had. After ordering, we were asked to give a phone number to text when the food was ready in about 5-7 minutes. No problem. Waited outside, never got a text for about 10 minutes. My husband goes in to use the restroom and checks on the food on his way back out. Texts me from inside "our food is on sitting the counter behind the register and these guys are nowhere to be found." Turns out they had our food sitting under the lamp while the guy who took our order was our back smoking. Got my husbands order wrong, as well.

Hanan A.

Yelp
We ordered the pulled pork and brisket platter, with potatoes salad and burnt end beans. The burnt end beans were decent. The disappointment is the temperature of the food, it was cold. The pork and the brisket were very dry. I was very disappointed. Shaun: in response to your comment. I ate at Graze yesterday afternoon and ordered in person. In respect to giving feedback to the owner, Please be aware that not all customers are treated well when giving feedback directly especially as a Black woman in predominantly white space . Your response in itself shows I can't give a review of my experience without a business telling me what I need to do first before writing a review. It doesn't really invite me to try it again and it's assumed that it is my first time trying your food.
google avatar

Yelp
Bomb pork belly BLT. The green tomatoes tasted a little pickled and cut the richness of pork belly and mayo so well. And THANK YOU for not skimping on the mayo. To all my BLT fanatics, this is it, y'all. The bread was incredible, too (soft and buttery). Damn. This was good with my beer.

Jeannie R.

Yelp
Was so hungry and looking forward to trying a different bbq place. But nope. Ordered the brisket plate. Not great. Brisket was too dry stringy. The beans had no burnt end taste and some of the beans were crunchy and some done fine. Should have gone to my locale bbq place.

Brigid K.

Yelp
We were so looking forward to this place having read somewhere it was great. Will definitely not be back. Outside of the sauces we liked very little. Baked beans were hard and not cooked. The Asian slaw was a complete odd flavor that wasn't good and didn't go with BBQ. The rib tips were almost all fat and tough at the same time, the only meat that was good was the brisket but we got 5 small pieces for a large price tag and they were also very fatty. The hot link not good. Really really unfortunate but they guy running it was really cool. I just think all the actual food fully missed the mark. The sauces good but nothing else if you are looking for actual BBQ meats and good southern sides. Also way too much $ for what we actually got.
google avatar

Travis D.

Yelp
Over priced for the food that we got. It did taste fairly good though. We had the burger, pulled pork, and fried pickles
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
The Fabled Rooster was great, we really enjoyed the food and the flavors were amazing. Loved the Carolina Vinegar sauce and the fried pickles were perfection. Damian was awesome and very helpful, he even called out my name to remind me that our food was ready. He went above and beyond to explain the menu and made the whole experience wonderful. Will be back soon, see you then Damian.

A K.

Yelp
Top ten burger for me... the Chefs Burger. Service was very helpful and knowledgeable. Jen and Zara helped me and were amazing! I wish that I lived closer. My sides were the burnt ends baked beans and Texas toast, both were great as well. The whole "Graze" experience was great!
