First time at Farish House. We came to celebrate our 40th anniversary. I suppose it was fitting that we dined an a house even older: the Farish House was originally built in 1899. It had seen multiple iterations but seemed to have found its niche.
It was a really cute, if loud, quaint converted home. They offered both indoor and outdoor seating, but at 109 degrees on a June evening, we chose inside.
We were immediately seated (reservations) in the 'front room' with three other parties. We loved the wonderful, time-worn decor. The acoustics were bare, so the loud birthday party at the next table was innocuous but we couldn't blame them for that.
My wife ordered the simple salad, fingerling potatoes and the scallop risotto, plus a glass of wine. I got the Caesar salad, candied carrots and the short ribs. It all came to $123.80 plus tip.
Our salad arrived quickly and I was pleasantly surprised by mine. It was baby whole-leaf romaine, dressed with a tangy dressing and freshly shaved Parmesan. The 'croutons' were two-inch cubes of soft garlic bread. Perfect.
Our entrees and sides arrived shortly after we finished our salads. The glazed carrots had a nice zip to them and the potatoes had a yummy turmeric and curry aioli. My short ribs, nestled in warm polenta, were rich, savory and tender. My knife went ignored the entire meal.
I must say, I hadn't had a meal so elegant, graceful, fulfilling, soulful and downright tasty in a long time. We will be back.
