Bars Serving Bombay Sapphire Cocktails | Eater

"Summer is the time to stop by this friendly spot on the North Shore, which feels a bit like dining at a friend’s backyard barbecue. The two brothers and cousin behind The Farm definitely had warmer seasons in mind when they created the outdoor zone replete with shaded tables, a volleyball court, and cornhole. Let the kids run around on the grass while you sip on a fizzy gin cocktail and share a plate of nachos topped with slow-cooked pulled pork alongside homemade guacamole. The crowd-pleasing menu has options for everyone, so it’s the perfect spot to stop and refuel with a group after spending the day at nearby Crane Beach." - Vox Creative

Met some friends at The Farm Bar and Grille this evening and was NOT disappointed. The menu is vast. Burgers, wings, soups, fajitas, ribs that fall off the bone, so many more entrees, and appetizers. I will go back. My drink was super tasty. Friendly staff. Plenty of parking.

What a hidden gem this place is!! I was looking for a new place to go for my birthday when I stumbled across The Farm Bar & Grille. My husband and I looked online in advance to check out the menu. There were a lot of choices and the prices were reasonable. We decided to start off with their pulled pork bbq nachos. When the nachos came, we were blown away at how generous of a portion they were. The nachos were loaded with pulled pork as well as tomatoes and onions. Too many times we've had nachos where the toppings were skimpy. Not here! My only criticism is that in addition to charging you extra for guacamole or jalapenos if you want them, they do charge $1.95 if you want sour cream. Sorry, but I think that sour cream should be part of the deal. It is anywhere else that we've gone. They did give us a generous portion of the sour cream, but still.... The nachos were delicious - probably the best we've had. There were so many that we couldn't finish and wrapped the rest to go. We should've stopped there - but we didn't. I was in the mood for a burger and so was my husband. A lot of choices. I finally decided on their New England burger. Burger, cheddar, bacon, lettuce, tomato and onion served on a brioche roll. My husband ordered the double, double. Two all beef patties, caramelized onions, cheese. secret sauce with lettuce and tomato also served on a brioche roll. He decided to swap the fries for the onion rings (for an additional charge) so that we could try them. Everything was perfect! The burgers were both cooked to perfection (medium rare), the onion rings and fries were crisp and tasty. The bluegrass music that they played was pleasant. It could be heard but not so loud that you couldn't hold a conversation with each other. The whole experience was very enjoyable. We look forward to going back and trying out some of their other items.

The Farm Bar and Grille is an adorable and somewhat hidden gem in Essex. The building itself is tiny and if I hadn’t come across it on Google maps I’m not sure I would have ever noticed it. I’m so glad I did! The food was wonderfully prepared and the service was really lovely, especially considering there was only one waitress on the floor. *Remember, lots of places are still short-staffed so please be kind! 1) The New England Burger: ME family farm beef, VT cheddar, NH cured bacon, MA baked brioche bun, lettuce, tomato, and red onion. 2) Surf & Turf: BBQ Steak Tips paired with your choice of haddock (baked or fried) or Cajun seared shrimp (I chose fried haddock) and served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The portions were just right and there was enough to take home to eat later on for dinner. I look forward to visiting this place again.

The food here was amazing. It is an extremely friendly place for kids to go as well. They have yard games: corn hole; volleyball; horse shoe. The

Came here because we had a Groupon to use and were blown away. Very cozy, rustic atmosphere. Food and drinks are outstanding. Get the BBQ nachos, a Pop Rocks martini and go from there. We will definitely be back soon!

Google
Exceeded all expectations! We sat outside and it was a great family friendly experience with a sand volleyball, horseshoes and bags. The food was phenomenal (highly recommended the pretzel bites!) and then just when we thought it couldn’t get any better than manager served his HOMEMADE CHEESECAKE to us as a surprise for our anniversary! Hands down, great family friendly place with great food and even better company! We will absolutely return!

Google
Went on burger night, which is Wednesdays. The food is great and the kids said that we have to come back. Kathleen was our server and she is very friendly and accommodating. They have the Maine Beer Company on tap, and it was delicious.

Yelp
The food is amazing, and the service is wonderful. My granddaughter had hurt herself and our waitress brought us bandages. The grandchildren enjoyed playing in the outdoor yard and volleyball area. Great live music too!

Dale M.

Yelp
States that the outside area is dog friendly, recently brought our 2 grandsons and our golden doodle only to be told it's service animals only. Maybe update your website!!

Yelp
My husband and I were visiting the area and were looking for a place we could book reservations for Dinner and found The Farm Bar and Grille. The parking lot is massive and looks like it is more local rather than tourists since it was all Massachusetts license plates (which we liked!) Our hostess seemed nice, but a little overwhelmed. It seemed like she was managing the phone, take out orders, cleaning up tables, etc. We had to wait 5 or so minutes for her to clean a booth for us which was fine, and we got seated in a small booth for two. The table was very sticky even though she wiped it down, the menu was completely sticking to the table, I had a hard time picking it up. It took us about 10 or so minutes to be approached to order. Our waitress seemed nice, but VERY scattered. I think she was very overwhelmed and was serving a lot of tables. She kept wanting us to take our time and keep coming back to take our order (but it would be 15-20 minutes before we'd see her again each time). We ordered the Ocean on the Farm drink and the "Bartender's Choice" which was a "surprise" which was a cool concept. It ended up being a Mango Sour Ale which my husband didn't mind, but wasn't a major fan of. My Ocean on the Farm was sooo delicious, I ended up ordering another one when our food came. We ordered appetizers (fried pickles and the mozzarella bites), and the food portions were HUGE. The mozzarella bites were absolutely delicious. Because the service was a little bit slower, I ended up filling up almost entirely on the mozzarella bites (and could barely even ate my dinner, which was the Farmer's Mac). I originally asked for no jalapenos and for barbecue sauce on the side, but when it arrived, there were jalapeno's on the bottom (which made my mac and cheese overall very spicy) and no barbecue sauce. I tried to hold off on eating until our waitress came back, but had to start eating it since she was busy with the other tables. We also asked for boxes for our appetizers, but she unfortunately forgot the boxes. She asked us again if we wanted boxes when we barely ate our mac and cheese, so she gave us the boxes for both our appetizers and entrees then. She asked us if we wanted any dessert, which was said no because we were very full, and then she said we could just take the dessert home and eat it later, so we also ordered the churro cheesecake (we ended up getting the second to last slice left which was nice). When our waitress grabbed my plate to take it away, she accidentally knocked the marinara sauce from the mozzarella bites onto my arms and shirt, thankfully it was almost all finished so it didn't really get on me. Our waitress was nice and definitely not holding anything against her, I think I only saw her and maybe one or two other waitresses the entire night (the restaurant was VERY loud and bustling so I knew it was crowded and busy). The other waiters I saw just appeared to be runners (giving us our appetizers/entrees/etc).

Yelp
The 6'2 brown boy worked exceptionally well. Was quick to get my drink and serve was amazing. 5/5 stars. The aura of the place felt God-Like, Holy Spirit was active.

Becky H.

Yelp
The Nashville hot chicken sandwich is my go to, however the last few times it's gone downhill and I've been disappointed. Trying to give the place another chance I tried the black bean burger tonight (which I've had and loved in the past) Everything tasted like it was from the day before, including the fries. The lettuce by no means was fresh and was brown and soggy. The burger was extremely dry with a sad display of cheese. Given I was starving and had barely eaten all day I tossed the lettuce and doused the rest in hot sauce. I have never written a bad review in my life because I try and give places and everyone the benefit of the doubt, we all have off days or crappy days but it seems like this place has given up.. I should have listened to the rumors going around town.

Ann T.

Yelp
great food! I've had most on the menu and I love the nachos, plain Jane, fajitas And drinks which are not skimpy! Prices are amazing service is wonderful and eating outdoors is always nice. Try it you'll like it....

Yelp
Had a wonderful dinner here. Our server was Alex, he was super nice and attentive. Will be back again.

Yelp
Delicious burger! I will let you know that it took about 10min longer than quoted but that didn't matter because the food is worth it. We got it for takeout and ate it an hour later and it was still that good. No complaints at all.
google avatar

Samantha C.

Yelp
The bbq pulled pork burger had absolutely no bbq sauce at all on or in the pork, the waitress has completely forgotten about us, all I want to do is pay and leave but I havnt seen anyone is quite sometime. The steak and cheese egg rolls smell like they have gone bad and the "meat" inside them looks like something that comes out of tube. I will never eat here again, this was my first and last time.

William Y.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the waitress was very nice and went out of her way to make sure that were good

Yelp
Standard pub fare with a bar and a booth area. Great spot for kids, lots of options, nice staff. A local, casual spot. Taco Tuesday's!

Yelp
Love the pub menu and the atmosphere. It's a nice place to go with friends, so glad we found it after a few beach days

Yelp
AMAZING!!!! Highly recommend going here! The staff was extremely friendly and their mozzarella bites were fantastic I am definitely coming here again!!!!

Pisa S.

Yelp
The food is awful especially the chicken. Below dog food quality. My dog wouldn't even touch it. Should be shut down. Staff is rude and miserable too.

Ryan W.

Yelp
I started with the fried pickles and was taken back by the freshness of the pickles, a true 10 out of 10 experience on the pickles. for my entree I got the Chicken Fajitas and cleaned my plate. If you are not dining here you are missing out, big time

Yelp
This restaurant is all about the atmosphere. Other than that the food lacks quality and the service is average overall, not a place for food.

C Q.

Yelp
They have the best burger around (I am a burger freak and have tried them all in the Gloucester area) and the sweet potato fries are top notch as well; they are not soft and soggy. I will definitely go here again and recommend to anyone.

Yelp
The food here is AMAZING!! Never had a bad meal service is on point and the nachos are the best I've ever had, but they are huge!

Ciara M.

Yelp
Great service and really good food. We did fried pickles and jalapeño poppers for appetizers which came out really quick! For dinner we had a burger, fish tacos, and the Nashville hot sandwich. The peppers on the Nashville hot really made the sandwich stand out compared to any other place we've had one, and the fish tacos were overflowing and very flavorful. We ordered a side of Mac n cheese but it truly tasted like a soupier velveeta box Mac n cheese, otherwise all of the food was great!

Yelp
Went to see Live music at the Farm ,John Tamilio was great, We sat at a table in the lounge and our server Kim was awesome, she took care of our party of 3 as if we were VIPs. The Food was very good Buffalo Dip. Haddock Bites . Drinks also good. Had a fun time will be back!! Keep up the great work!.

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing severs are fast and friendly. The kitchen produces the best of everything. Ill never stop coming here. My server Laura was very attentive, she made my experience here a great one.

Yelp
Me and my Friends went here on 3-17-2024 ST Patrick Day And My Friend go the Corn Beef Dinner and I Got the steak tips and the Corn Beef was Fatty and chewy and Gross we told the Bartender but she didn't seem to care and my steak tips where chewy as well and there was very little of them for the Price me and my friend and I will never come back and where was the Live Irish Music they Promised us didn't happen

John M.

Yelp
My wife and I went for the boiled dinner on Saint Patrick's Day. We were dying for it as last year it was amazing. Well this time the meat was very tuff and the juice from cooking the meat smelled like steamy dish water. We were so disappointed, we even spoke to a few other customers, this woman Nancy said the same thing and a gentleman at the bar also sent his back. Our waitress Casey was very nice and the drinks were good. The atmosphere was loud and we expected that for Saint Paddies Day. I was also disappointed that nobody from management spoke to us for sending our meals back. I know things happen but four of us all had the same experience.

R B.

Yelp
my companion had steak tips w fries and slaw. His tips were ok very very chewy damn that was a lot of serious time spent on chewing. Fries were meh. i had fish & chips w slaw fish was good, fries were meh. Tried to pay but nobody was around and it was NOT busy at all, there were only people in the bar. We were in the dining area in a booth. Finally found a hostess that was texting w her feet up on a booth and barely made eye contact but finally put the bill w credit card on the table in the room that the waitress was in, which took like 15 min to get her attention. Imagine if it were busy then we couldn't pay for like 7 hours! Prices were high for the quality received. Man, get it together!

Yelp
Ordered chicken fingers and fries, they were decent. Only issue the Yelp menu says 8.95$ for the tenders, but when I picked them up I was charged 12.95$. When I asked why the price was 4$ more, they said I looked at an old menu and that was that. Didn't honor the price I had based my order on, didn't say they'd update the menu. Less than ideal way to handle it.

David S.

Yelp
Not a very good experience. Chicken fingers were overcooked. The waitress never should ask if you want change back especially if the meal comes to 72 dollars and you hand her a 100 dollar bill. When she came back with the change she shorted me 5 dollars. My math says that would be around a little over 30 percent tip. I see this too much lately when they ask if you want your change back. The girl needs to be properly trained.

Skylar J.

Yelp
Our waitress forgot about our food and left us waiting for 30 plus minutes for appetizers, which is super long for an appetizer. I really hope that this gets improved because I love supporting local businesses

T R.

Yelp
Tried this place randomly for the first time recently. The service was very good. Our waitress (young woman) was very attentive and brought drinks out in a timely manner. She was great. Checked in with us regularly but wasn't overbearing. The food overall was Above average. We ordered the braised short rib poutine and wings (with dry rub) for apps. There was a tiny amount of short rib in the poutine. The gravy was good, but the lack of short rib was disappointing. The wings were very good. Very tasty. Couple of people in our group ordered the chicken parm over pasta and both said the same thing. The chicken was good but there was way too much sauce. I had the fish and chips and the portion was a very good size, the fish was fresh, and the tartar was great. My dad had the surf and turf. His baked haddock was very good and the steak tips as well. The prices were very reasonable. Overall it was a good experience.

Yelp
Great pub food. Discovered The Farm Bar today after a day at Crane's Beach. The food was great and the service top notch. Burger for me and it was freshly made and delish. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I ordered the Thai Lettuce Wraps to go. There were three wraps each about 6 inches long with no more than 1/4 filling of chicken and other stuff...for $18.95!! Seriously!? What a joke. Way over priced. The taste was reasonable.

Yelp
Great place good food and atmosphere and close to my house great bartender and clientele

Yelp
It was a busy, warm night and our server, Laura was so wonderful. She was patient, hard working and super friendly. We will be requesting her any time we go back!

Yelp
We waited about 50 mins for our food and when it came my burger was burnt black. I ate it because I was really hungry and just wanted to eat and leave. The fries were cold and undercooked as well. The service was friendly and were clearly working hard, but there are some kitchen issues.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food, great portions and a great space! We went and sat out on the back patio. Facing a large yard full of games and family friendly activities. The food was cooked perfectly and the portions and price were a great value! This is my go to place for the summer. We will be taking friends there!

Yelp
Stopped in on a Monday night for dinner. Nice atmosphere. Server was great. Started with a Farmarita, pretty strong on the sour mix, but not terrible We shared a Rockporter salad, which was tasty - fresh, good size, not low cal, luckily got the dressing on the side - pretty sure it was a ranch/sour cream combo We then shared a large nachos (thanks Google search for best nachos on the north shore) w Guam and jalapeños. They were huge with a crapload if pork. Nicely crisped, not burnt, multi-layered so not everything was sitting on top, good mix of ingredients, and a bbq glaze over it all. Really good nachos. Finished with an Adult chocolate milk for dessert. Full of alcohol and cream. Was basically a big White Russian with chocolate sauce and more of a kick. At that point I was stuffed and it was overkill. But was good for what it was. We will definitely come back to try the rest of the menu

Bonnie H.

Yelp
I had my grandson's college graduation party here today, 6/3/2023. I cannot say enough about the staff, they were so friendly and accommodating. Due to the weather, we had 30 something people in one side of the restaurant and the staff had to maneuver between everyone to serve drinks and to take care of the food. I did not get to thank them as I wanted to as I was trying to get the last of our group to exit so they could prepare for the dinner crowd. Secondly, the food was excellent. Everyone at the party commented on how delicious everything was. This summer I will return for a dinner on the patio with my husband and friends. Lastly, I would like to mention the General Manager, Charlie, he was great to work with. Five stars is not enough !! Thank you all for a wonderful time.

Yelp
This is definitely one of my favorite places. The bar scene is very comfortable w/lots of TVs and the food is incredible. Love the draft beer selection & their wing night is killer. Belly up to the bar or settled into one of their cozy booths - trust me, you'll love it. I just recently had the BBQ nachos and they are absolutely amazing! We also had the pulled pork burrito with guacamole & sour cream - really good! Come to karaoke or shoot some darts - plenty of entertainment for the crew!

Yelp
Was there last Thursday Afternoon, December 15, 2022, haven't been there in a while and thought it is a nice place to go on a rainy afternoon. Well, it will be my last visit to the Farm, ordered the new french onion soup, which was more like a gravy with onions and cheese and not flavorful at all, Thursday is 1/2 off chicken wings, so ordered mine with the dry rub, cooked right but the rub was so salty you couldn't eat them, sent them back, the person I was with ordered 2 white Russians for a drink and they used milk instead of cream to make them if you don't have cream at least use 1/2 and 1/2. I understand the Farm is going in a new direction with its new menu but the direction they are going is the wrong way. If you are looking for good food this is not the place to find it.

Christopher T.

Yelp
Love it! Great place to bring the kids, have a drink and some great food. Like a back yard barbecue but someone else cooks and cleans!!! Went on Labor Day and might not grill out again!

Yelp
Great local restaurant with an affordable menu. We stopped in on a Sunday night and the restaurant was pretty busy. We were seated by the bar which is a great place to watch a game. I was pretty impressed by the overall service at this farm location. The food was plentiful and served quickly. I ordered the steak tips which were which were a hit. You can't go wrong with their Pulled pork nachos either. They slow roast their ribs and pork in a BBQ grill for hours. Reliable, local, and fun spot!

Melissa G.

Yelp
absolutely disappointed with their customer service. sat down with a reservation, then waited 30 min for them to come take our drink order. every server walking by us... eyeing our table down but no one coming to take our drink order. we asked very politely if we had a server, we then got a response "oh well honestly we're super backed up, you might, you might not i honestly don't know". so unprofessional... as a server, even if you are unaware, you should offer waters until you figure it out. regardless, you should not be sitting so many tables if you do not have enough staff to serve them. 15 min go by and still no service. we walk to the hostess where she goes "we will get on it". we finally got a server and drinks took another 15 min to get. after years of great experience, i am so disappointed and will not be returning ever again nor recommending...

Yelp
What happened? We have been long awaiting your reopening after the renovations. One of the favorite items on your menu has been the chili. I believe your new chef has ruined the recipe! Bring back the old one which was thicker and seasoned differently. Very disappointing. I ordered the special burger. The bun was stale. The burger patty was tasty but I don't believe it was as big as it used to be but I could be mistaken. Overall this visit is somewhat disappointing. Don't ruin a good thing please! I'm a local and have loved coming to The Farm... The new interior does look nice.

Ken B.

Yelp
First time visiting this restaurant. It's a nice ride out in the "country" without having to drive too far. We started with cocktails, mine was the Farmers Punch, my wife's was the Pop Rocks martini, which we enjoyed with an order of haddock bites, all delicious, drinks were quite generous. For our mains, I had the Walking In Memphis Burger, very nice, got to enjoy the burger AND the pulled pork, awesome! My wife ordered the basic Mac N Cheese and was extremely happy, especially since we got to enjoy the leftovers the next night! Too full for dessert, so off we went. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Hell Yeah ! This say it all. Thier hand cut chicken tenders, made from fresh chicken. I raved to my five friends about and I convinced to go to The Farm. Ended up being boxed, frozen, breaded, premade. :( It was laughingly obvious and the manager admitted she had pulled them from thier Mexican restaurant in Ipswich. But I paid the $240 bill, left a generous tip and won't be back. They lied and thier claims on Phantom Gourmet are a lie.
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
Definitely kid friendly. We are there around 6:30 on a Saturday and every table had children. Good for groups as well. The horse shoe pits and volleyball court are a big hit. The food and drink was delicious. We had nachos, ribs, salad and pulled pork sandwich. It was all two thumbs up. My mint mojito had fresh mint from the garden in their yard. Our server was attentive and nice.

Yelp
Very bad service my first time there and surly last time as well. Burger was $13.00 and I they charged me $15.00 They told me I have 2 sides with my dinner and they charged me for that also... Be careful and check your bill with this place.

Yelp
Giving it more then one star would be pushing it. I've been here several times since it was opened and I will tell one thing they are consistent at: inconsistency. The place is owned by young professionals and apparently their main goal is to run a bar/college frat house filled with cliqy dudes and chicks. Everything about this place is pretentious, from the overpriced , overrated crappy food, to the people who go there (mainly to visit their friends who work there), to the people that DO work there as they wouldn't even bat an eyelid at me unless I waved my arm ferociously at them to get another drink. ( bartender was too busy drinking and playing darts with friends to care) the place is filthy with dust piled up on all the old farm tools on the wall, sticky tables, etc. My last and final time going there, I decided to go have an actual meal in the dining room with my parents. I got a 12 dollar chick ceaser that consisted of a pile of whites of romaine covered in a crappy dressing with a small price of rubbery chicken. We were also taken aback by other table of patrons who came in to see there buddies who work there and were loud and obnoxious at the booth behind us. I'm surprised if this place lasts another few years.
