The Farmer’s Wife

This is truly a special place for me, and without a doubt my favorite place in California. I go here anytime I need to reset and recharge. If I don’t go at least twice a month I feel incomplete. The atmosphere, food, and service is so amazing, I’ve brought multiple friends and family members here over the years. It is by far the best salad I’ve ever had, including farm to table fresh ingredients. Some of them I don’t even know the names to. The sandwiches are a perfect combination of local ingredients, and you can feel the care, support, and collaboration that goes into each one. Everything is so delicately balanced between extreme craft and flavor. I was absolutely devastated to hear about this place closing down. It’s so much more than a sandwich shop, to me, the dozens of people I’ve converted, and the town of Point Reyes Station itself. I will cherish the memories of this place as I have cherished their food and everything else.

I always tell my friend these are death row sandwiches! Like if you had to choose your last meal it’s gonna be from the Farmer’s wife! I read she sources all of her ingredients from local people and you can taste the difference. The staff is usually funny and Friendly. If you’re out in point raise do yourself a favor. They are pretty big sandwiches and you think that you wanna split one but you end up eating the whole thing because you can’t stop yourself.

The Farmer’s Wife in Point Reyes Station has taken the modest, working-class sandwich and alchemized it into a resplendent masterpiece — a gastronomic sonnet, a triumphant opera of flavor and form. What was once the humble province of lunchboxes and hurried bites is here elevated to the realm of high art, where bread and filling cease to be mere sustenance and instead become a revelation of human imagination. . This is not simply eating; it is bearing witness to culinary sorcery. Each sandwich is conceived not as a stack of ingredients, but as a composition, a dazzling tableau where every carefully chosen element harmonizes with its companions. Imagine a chorus of ripened stone fruits — glistening, jeweled slices so tender and perfumed they could have been plucked from Eden itself — set upon perfectly toasted bread and interwoven with ribbons of goat cheese, crescendos of aged cheddar, and the bold, dramatic punctuation of blue cheese. To take a bite is to discover, anew, what the union of discernment and craftsmanship can conjure. And yet, astonishingly, the sandwiches may not even be the pinnacle here. The so-called “side salad” arrives not as an afterthought but as an astonishment — a painter’s palette of no fewer than fifteen distinct seasonal offerings, each bursting with vibrancy. Local fruits at the height of their ripeness mingle with greens and herbs in a jubilant profusion that recalls a 17th-century Dutch still life — sumptuous, abundant, and almost impossibly lush, as though painted by Vermeer himself. To gaze upon it is to feel a sense of plenitude; to taste it is to fall into rapture.

The Mushroom Medley Sandwich was fantastic—rich in flavor and perfectly cooked. It came with a fresh salad that was just as impressive, featuring crisp greens and a delightful mix of fresh fruits that added a refreshing touch. Overall, a wholesome and satisfying meal. While the price was a bit on the higher side, the quality of the food made it well worth it. A great sandwich spot nestled in a charming little town—definitely worth a visit!

First time in the US last year, I passed by Point Reyes on a quick road trip from San Francisco and I am so glad I did! The melt sandwich was delicious with great ingredients and super balanced flavors. But the real surprise was the Hibiscus float. I never liked floats, or Kombucha for that matter, but this one completely changed my mind. I raved about it for a whole year to friends and family. Then a year later, last month, I came back with a bunch of skeptical friends and now they are all believers too. 😂 Miguel, who served me the float, was extremely nice to talk to and even offered us samples of other things to try. The lady who I believe owns the place was so lovely and genuinely happy to see us back a year later just because of their float and sandwiches. It really warmed my heart and she was incredibly kind. 💙 Every time I have to go to San Francisco, I will try to make this detour to stop at this spot part of my USA tradition.

The sandwich was really delicious. I’m giving it four stars only because I expected a larger portion for the price. But aside from that, it was very good!

10 stars, DO NOT MISS. Without exaggeration, the best sandwich I’ve ever had *in my life*, and overall a lovely experience tucked inside The West Marin Culture Shop (look for the big red barn). I ordered directly from the Farmer’s (Ex) Wife herself, Kendra, who is warm, lovely and a culinary genius. When I asked about adding protein to the Fruit & Blue, she spoke of how she loves combining flavor profiles (sweet, savory) and recommended adding the roasted fennel sausage. Let me tell you… this sandwich is the stuff of dreams. Pear, apples, the most plump raspberries and blackberries, apricot jam… so many fresh fruits, I lost track. Melted together with salty cheddar, goat cheese, and add in the savory sausage, on perfectly grilled sourdough. OMG. As if this sandwich was not enough, she served it with a generously sized salad of again, the freshest ingredients imaginable. You might think ‘oh, sometimes places will throw some lettuce/ cherry tomatoes on the side and call that a salad’. NOT HERE! Fresh greens, piled high with beets, cabbage, tomatoes and cukes, apples and pears, snap peas that looked as it they’d just been plucked from the vine… all bursting with color and almost too beautiful to eat. Lastly, the fermented strawberry soda was the perfect pairing. Sweetened only with honey, perfectly fizzy… I almost always avoid soda otherwise because it’s usually terrible for you, but this was such a treat. In conclusion: We live in a time when many businesses use the term “fresh, seasonal ingredients“ as a marketing grab. By contrast, eating here feels like a hug. Because only someone who actually cares about you and is thinking about your wellbeing would put in the effort and creativity to source and serve you a product this fresh, this beautiful, this *delicious* and wonderfully nourishing. As someone who loves cheesy, salty comfort food because I’m human, but also tries to eat in a way that will give me energy and not make me feel awful, and knowing how nearly impossible it can be to find options that check both those boxes… I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate this. Did I mention drinks are by default served in reusable glass jars, and everything else is compostable? The care for the Earth comes through here too. I was visiting from NYC (where we’re surrounded by worldclass food, but nothing like this!), otherwise I would have lunch here multiple times per week. Instead I will have to look forward to my next trip the the Bay Area - or then again, maybe move there for this reason.😂 If you think that’s a crazy thing to say - have lunch here and report back!

I always have the best experience here! Kendra, the owner, sources the best ingredients and all local! Every sandwich I’ve had from her is absolutely impeccable, she does food science with the flavors and every mouthful is an explosion of decadence ❤️ along with the salads they’re absolutely delicious! 🥗 Between the customer service and the high-end premium ingredients it’s always an occasion getting to visit this establishment!!!

By far the best sandwiches I've ever had!! ingredients are incredibly fresh, the menu is wonderfully creative and the people are so sweet. Worth every penny! If you haven't tried it... you're in for a treat!! Not to mention HUGE portions and a giant delicious fresh salad on the side. Perfect to share Love that they support their own local community of farmers - spread the love. I'll be back again and again and again.

I know inflation and the pandemic have driven costs to be higher across the board for pretty much everything in this country and lease prices for businesses have certainly gone up as well. With that being said though, these prices make stadium concession prices at football games look like happy hour deals. A 22 dollar grilled cheese sandwich is in no way, shape, or form justifiable. It just seems very greedy and out of touch on the business owners end. It makes me wonder when's the last time the person who chose the prices went to eat at a casual restaurant or went grocery shopping. Apart from the grilled cheese being 22 bucks, the other items on the menu are just as erroneously priced. 26-30 dollars for a sandwich without even counting the taxes, fees, and tips? Yikes

Ate here on a business trip with a co-worker. The food was mediocre and the price is literally mental illness. Portions are small! The owner is very unpleasant.

The best club I've had in my whole life. Exceptional, they call it the T-Rex club, sure it's 30 bucks but it could feed two people and the salad on it itself is worth 20 bucks. This photo is the very last of the four towers and a couple bites of salad. The owner was there and she was exceptional as well.

Hands down my favorite sandwiches & salads. ABSOLUTELY WORTH EVERY SINGLE CENT! It's 2 meals worth of food and makes for delicious left overs if you can't finish it all because the portions are gigantic. Fresh & local impeccable ingredients are nearly too beautiful to eat.

The Farmer's Wife makes the best salads in the world, bar none. Kendra knows all her purveyors and every leaf, vegetable, nut, and fruit is simply the most flavorful out there. Her dressings are light and superb . The salads are so huge they easily feed two. We travel far for The Farmer's Wife.

For the price, I'd suggest you drive down a little down the road and get yourself a better meal. Not filling and overpriced, don't get me started on their "salad". Make your sandwiches at home and save yourself the trouble.

Expensive, expensive, expensive! Couldn't believe my eyes, when I seen the menu prices!

This was the first lunch spot we came across during a day trip to Point Reyes Station. But we knew with the aroma of a variety of grilled sourdough melts, we'd be back. And we weren't disappointed! After ordering, the wait was 20 minutes (during Labor Day weekend) but plenty to do in the beautiful refurbished hall (the former Cowgirls Creamery barn now dubbed West Marin Culture Center) that holds this and several other shops (food and otherwise). We ordered from the takeout counter and ate in the tranquil garden behind the hall, which had an assortment of picnic tables and benches. I had the pastrami which was a special of the day and my wife had the vegitablicious served with a farm fresh egg. Both were amazing in flavor and nap inducing in size. Served on delightful salads that had seasonal fruit, tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes and other delectables. Best sandwich I've had in a long time. Pricey - the pastrami sandwich clocked in at $29 - but if you're making a special day of it in Pt. Reyes Station, why not a special sandwich. And I should he hungry again in a few days!

Best sandwich of my life. I had the lamb. Expensive but worth it. Going back to the area soon and planning on getting another one to try. :)

The heartiest, healthiest sandwiches - stuffed with local meat and/or vegetables. It's unlike any sandwich I've had before, with combinations of ingredients and flavors that surprise you with every bite. It's like having a chef bring a farmers market to the Cow Girl building!

The price of these sandwiches is absurd. The owner knows she doesn't have competition for sandwiches in Pt. Reyes Station. Yet, rather than charge a reasonable amount, she price gouges. I also witnessed the owner being rude to other customers while I was waiting in line to order. Pack a picnic before thinking about spending money here.

Although the food quality looks good, I was very disappointed. I waited a very long time for a veggie club sandwich. When I got home 30 minutes away (too far to drive back), the sandwich was nothing like the description on the menu for $25.00 + tax and tip. There was no hummus, no salsa, or micro greens to be found (see photo). There were only a few sliced apples and loads of jicama, with one piece of lettuce on some grilled bread. No one mentioned substitutions while I was waiting. I can understand if they ran out of something, but they should have told me and given me the chance to cancel my order or change it to something else, but they didn't. They were not busy at the time I was there. I tried to call The Farmer's Wife to discuss my concerns right away, but there is no phone number for this company on the receipt or online.

This was the highest quality sandwich of my life. They even have gluten free options. It was so delicious, I can't stop thinking about it! The salad that came with it was so fresh and so good. I wish we lived nearer by, we'd visit all the time!

Anybody who thinks this is an okay price, even if it tastes good, has actually been hypnotized or doesn't know the value of money. $20+ for a plain GRILLED CHEESE is insane, and it's not like it's larger than normal sandwich bread sizes.

Some of the best sandwiches in Marin. They are so filling and all come with a salad and have the best ingredients. The service is great as well.

I made a day of going to Pt. Reyes Station to return an abundance of cleaned out sauerkraut and kimchi jars back to Wild West Ferments, and one of the days biggest highlights was my sandwich from The Farmer's Wife. Is this a cheap sandwich? No. Is this a special and delicious sandwich that you will think about fondly for years to come? Yes. I got the Krat Avocado Tomato, my boyfriend got the Hot Pastrami and we were both exceedingly happy with our choices. Both sandos came with salads that were unique to the sandwich we ordered and were both excellent. The sandwiches were big enough to save half for dinner, and held up! So, if you're going through Point Reyes Station, go get a sandwich, some special treats, some fermented food, maybe even a fermented soda float, talk to the super friendly staff, and feel good that you are spending your money supporting a local gem on delicious food made with love!

These sandwiches are worth every penny. I've eaten three sandwiches from here and each one has been a contender for the best sandwich of my life. Their cheese & seasonal fruit sandwich, the tomato grilled cheese, and the sausage and berries sandwich were all INSANE. I cannot stop telling everyone about how insane these sandwiches are. The salad that comes on the side is also insane - so fresh and delish!

Stumbled on this spot while passing through Point Reyes. I was very pleased to discover they have gluten free bread. It also happens to be locally sourced from a business in Marin. I ordered the tuna melt on GF bread and it was honestly the best tuna sandwich I've ever had. Super flavorful and a generous portion. It came with chips and a salad. Will definitely be my new food stop in the area. Friendly service too!

Heritage Pork Chorizo. Best sandwich I've ever had. Not hyperbole. Worth every penny. Can't wait to go back and try one of the other sandwiches.
