We visited The Farrier to redeem a voucher for their Afternoon Tea. The venue itself is tastefully decorated and has a warm, homely atmosphere.
The Afternoon Tea was decent, though there is room for improvement. The sandwiches, while served in generous portions, lacked the neat presentation typically expected, they weren’t clearly cut, which made them feel a little rushed. The scones were excellent, but the accompanying jam was served in a rather small pot; a more generous portion would have been appreciated. As for the cakes, they were fine, though nothing particularly memorable.
One detail I’ve found thoughtful at other venues is the inclusion of a small menu card describing the sandwich and cake selection. Unfortunately, The Farrier didn’t provide this, nor did any staff explain what was being served, everything was simply placed on the table without introduction, leaving us to guess.
Despite reading glowing reviews about the service, we found it fairly standard. No one really went out of their way to make the experience feel special, it felt much like ordering in a regular restaurant rather than enjoying a curated Afternoon Tea experience.
Afternoon Tea is often seen as a treat or an occasion, and this felt a little underwhelming in that respect. A touch more refinement and attention to detail would go a long way.
That said, I’ve heard positive things about the main meals at The Farrier, though I can’t personally comment as we only sampled the Afternoon Tea.
