Wales Is the Only Country in the World With Walking Paths Along Its Entire Coastline

"The Felin Fach Griffin is the platonic ideal of a Welsh country pub with rooms, situated above a winning restaurant newly helmed by chef Gwennan Davies. It's an ideal base for exploring, offering a perfect spot to clear your head with a walk along the bucolic towpath of the 35-mile-long Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Felin Fach Griffin

"Warmth and character abound at this traditional pub. Relax on a sofa beside the fire with a pint of local beer, then head for the Library or Snug to dine. The organic kitchen garden provides herbs, veg and fruit for the simple, unfussy dishes. Cosy bedrooms come with good extras and are dog friendly." - Michelin Inspector

The Felin Fach Griffin is my safe place :-) Having been there for nearly two decades now, it never disappoints. I love the charm and lovely Welsh friendliness. We were there to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday, and every course was divine. Between us, we had the salmon, beetroot, and lamb. For main the roast lamb was sensational and the plaice was wonderful. Desert was brilliant too - the lemon cake was off the scale. The Felin Fach Griffin do food and drink very well and with it comes fabulous Welsh hospitality and a very comfortable environment. Thank you for helping make this a special day for us! A special thank you to Gwen, Alex, Sam Emily, Adam, Harry and Ffion for singing happy birthday in Welsh!! Kind regards, CM, MWM, RB, SB

A truly special place — calm, welcoming, unforgettable. We came to celebrate my mum’s 70th birthday and were treated like royalty from the moment we arrived. The staff were thoughtful and attentive without ever being overbearing, and the atmosphere was warm, peaceful, and full of quiet charm. The food was exceptional — honest, elegant, and deeply satisfying — and the whole experience felt like a gift. It was one of the best outings we’ve ever had as a family. I was visiting while filming for my slow-travel nature project, The Wandering Stream (@the-wanderingstream on YouTube), and this lunch became a beautiful part of the journey — full of joy, kindness, and care. Thank you for making it so memorable.

The beds and rooms are comfortable , cosy ambience. Some of the staff seem a tad depressed. |The food here used to be superb, but really gone down hill. We paid £40 for two courses. If you are vegetarian this is really bad value as effectively you are subsidising the meat eaters. I had fish with no vegetables to speak of so a side of crispy kale , which was like eating a plate of cinders as it was over roasted. Beetroot starter was good.|Limited menu. Such a shame used to be excellent. Cost cutting I guess.

From booking over the phone to being sat at our table , it was easy and very pleasant, the atmosphere in the eating area was spot. The food was amazing !!! And out of this world! Add that to the quick service and lovely waitress and it’s worth every penny. In short if you’re in the area it’s a must visit.

I normally find pub roasts disappointing but this place was a nice surprise as it was cooked and put together with great care! A very welcoming atmosphere too, just wish there were more beer options on tap.

We have previously stayed at the sister hotels in Cornwall and our expectations were high. We weren’t disappointed.|2 nights stay in an old building with no TV in the room , the perfect place to get away from life’s problems.|Very comfortable room with a good strong shower. |All the staff are friendly and welcoming.|Breakfast is second to none, the only thing that wasn’t home made was possibly just the English mustard I asked for.|Dog friendly rooms with no extra charge, a refreshing change from the usual mandatory fee that most places charge. |Excellent all around.

We had a fabulous scummy lunch and enjoyed a good selection of beers and wines. Great and knowledgeable service from Sam. We chose to sit aside as it was gloriously sunny day and we have a big dog. Food was amazingly tasty and Krissie spent ages drooling over the wine list. Great place for lunch or dinner.

Absolutely fabulous pub and accommodation. We stayed the night in one of their rooms (thoughtfully decorated and full of locally sourced products, and very comfortable) as well as having dinner in their wonderful restaurant. We spent the afternoon by the fire reading our books, enjoyed a delicious dinner (also locally sourced ingredients) and then had the a delightful breakfast the next day (included with your room). Cannot recommend this place enough. Also a very dog friendly place!

Yelp
Popped in for lunch on our long way down the A470. Should/could have been nice and cosy but I had to eat in my coat as it was cold. Took 20 minutes for the menu to be brought to us and another 15 for the order to be taken (although we'd been served drinks in this time). He had the £9.50 bangers and mash and was disappointed by the small portion of sausages, the overworked mash and the over-reduced, gluey jus. I had the £12.50 skate with chorizo, apple and parsnip, which was delicious but really measly. Two mains and two non-alcoholic drinks came to £26. Sadly, I don't see us returning.

Yelp
The Griffin continues to maintain its high standards. We had an excellent set lunch back in November. Roaring fire in the grate, very pleasant and welcoming service. Good leek and potato soup, followed by an earthy duck confit with red cabbage. About £20 for 3 courses. Great wine list plus god ale and cider as well. Highly recommmended.

Yelp
Terrible service and food that doesn't warrant the effort to go here. I rarely complain about service, as most of the times, I really don't give a damn as long as the food is good. But capping off an excellent 6 day trip to Wales filled with friendly people and excellent hospitality, this place was utterly disappointing. An awkward and unfriendly staff, whose attitude is vastly different than all the other amazing ppl in the country. The restaurant fame here has prob changed the down-to-earth attitude described in the previous reviews from 5 years ago. As a special shout out, the server w sideburns was extremely friendly so try to get him if you go. The host with the beard was a joke, avoid unless you like some uptight pretentiousness at your neighborhood pub. Btw, the food here needs to improve, the cod was cooked amazingly but sat on top of an overly milky soup of vegis and crab. Overall very little inventive dishes and the execution didn't make up for it.

Yelp
I've eaten here about 5 times now, and enjoyed each visit imensely. Closer to a posh restaurant than a pub, but very comfortable and relaxed. I can't fault the staff. The food is mostly exquisite, and the beer excellent.

Yelp
Exquisite food, lovely pub. Very down to earth and friendly. I have to say that my pudding experience - billed simply as dessert of lemon and blood orange - was so zingy and gorgeous and intricate that I don't know where to begin. A delicious lemon mousse, a cool orange jelly, a perfect sorbet sitting on a magnificent bed of marmalade, all accompanied by a dollop of yummy lemon curd and the most amazing kind of sherbet of granules of lemon and orange zest. I wish this was my local!
