"The Fig Tree is tucked inside a Craftsman-style bungalow in the charming Elizabeth neighborhood, and stepping inside feels like visiting a friend's home. The food, though, pushes boundaries. The appetizers are daring (fried oysters with poblano-'nduja chutney, chorizo-stuffed calamari) while entrees definitely lean elegant and decadent (Stilton- and duxelles-topped filet mignon). This is the place to order outside of your comfort zone—you know that elk over horseradish spaetzle is calling your name." - Nancy DePalma

Google
Always the best experience. An old foodie couple who goes out to try new restaurants every week told me that their favorite restaurant is Fig Tree without hesitation. The first time I tried it, it instantly became our favorite too. I recommended it to my friends, and we had a party of 7 everyone agreed it was the best fine-dining restaurant they’d ever been to. With every bite, you can tell the chefs truly put their heart and effort into the food. Our server, Justin, added extra charm to the experience with his great sense of humor. making the evening even more memorable.

We recently celebrated our wedding at the Fig Tree - we rented out the bottom floor of the restaurant for our ~40 guests. Jane and the team were great to work with. They put together an event menu with us, and were more than happy to create custom options not typically on their menu, such as a chicken dish, lava cakes, and a wedding cake. We had looked at other restaurants with private event spaces in Charlotte, and they were all very unwilling to modify the set menu choices - we really we appreciated the flexibility at the Fig Tree! We used the outdoor patio area for cocktail hour and then came inside for a cozy candle-lit dinner, which SO delicious. The service was also excellent, as always. Thank you Fig Tree!

We came here to celebrate our anniversary and had a wonderful experience. The service was great. They had numerous options on the menu that sounded great. My partner had the Chilean Sea Bass and I had the veal. Both were incredible. They have an expansive wine list and a decent selection of cocktails. For desert my partner had the cheesecake and I had the peanut butter entremet. Both were mouthwatering. If you’re celebrating a special occasion and are looking for a nice dinner I recommend making a reservation here.

My husband and I came in off of recommendation it was our first time in Charlotte and we were in town for a “show”. We were blown away by the service and food! Service from Justin start to finish was excellent. We will definitely be returning the next time we’re in town!

Google
Very regimented, pride-infused, service! Nice atmosphere set in an old residence, with wide options ranging from Bison steak, Lamb chops, Elk chop, Sea Bass and more... Pricey but worth it for special occasions. The Fig Mule was really good! The old fashioned substitute I didn't care for much, probably because of the dry sherry in it and the basic ice (instead of one large cube) so hopefully the restaurant will consider elevating this too...

We happened upon this gem during a layover after we missed our flight. I would give this place ten stars if I could! Carl went above and beyond to make our experience exceptional. Highly recommend if you would like a memorable and special meal. P.S. we want your banana cheesecake recipe!

Google
Great night! This place is quite pricey so come ready for that, but it is an experience. Great service, wonderful atmosphere, and nice bathrooms! My favorite thing on the menu was the cherry butterscotch creme brulee. While non traditional the flavors were amazing. I also had the sea bass which was quite good, especially when you got every part of the dish in one bite.

Superb food, outstanding service in a charming and unique venue. We loved the foie gras, beggar’s purse, sea bass, salad, focaccia, elk chop, cocktails, wine and grapefruit dessert. Our first restaurant visit in Charlotte. We’ve never visited before. Made us want to move here. Thank you Ben, our server.

Yelp
Best restaurant I've been to in Charlotte since moving here in 2021! Can't wait to go back! The food was amazing, service was impeccable!

Yelp
This place is amazing! Everything I've had here is the best quality and most delicious! I highly recommend the Foie Gras and the Escargot. The service was also excellent! All management and staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I want to give a special thank you to Fletcher at the bar. She is an absolute gem!! An overall wonderful experience!

Yelp
The Fig Tree is an elegant restaurant in an stately, two story home near downtown Charlotte. Friday night was my first time to eat there but my wife ate atvthe Fig Tree earlier this year with a friend. They raved about the food. Had to try this highly recommended restaurant. We were seated in one of the upstairs dining rooms. It was a wonderfully quiet, location, perfect for celebrating our anniversary. Our waiter, Ben, was personable, knowledgeable, and attentive. We started with whiskey sours and asked if the bartender could add whipped egg whites to our drinks. We were delighted to learn that the bar could accommodate our request. While enjoying our drinks, we reviewed their extensive wine list. You'll need a few minutes to look over their wine list. We asked for recommendations for a red blend and the bottle we were served was from the Othello Vineyard in California. It was smooth and easy to drink...just what we were looking for. Our first food selection was an appetizer, escargot. The Fig Tree serves escargot a bit differently than I'm used to. Instead of being baked in their shells, they cook the snails and serve them on a plate with an elegant sauce and provide bread for dipping into the sauce. This is an amazing dish. If you've never had escargot, try it here. For dinner, I had the sea bass and my wife had the scallops. The sea bass was marinated and tasted sooo good. My wife's scallops were seasoned (blackened?) and she was very happy with her choice. We inquired about the dessert menu and found homemade beignets at the top of the list. If you've tried beignets in New Orleans, I assure you, these are better. The dough is cooked to a slightly browned, crispy exterior and there is a cinnamon dipping sauce on the plate. That dipping sauce is addictive (I like cinnamon/sugar). There is also a scoop of coffee flavored ice cream. The perfect finish to a great meal. They have other good options for dessert in case cinnamon is not a spice you crave. Lots of folks in Charlotte have a favorite resturant for fine dining. The Fig Tree is one you should consider. Be sure you have a reservation!

Yelp
We have not visited Fig Tree in a while, but were there last night and it was a fantastic experience. I HIGHLY recommend the Elk chop. It was so flavorful. It had a slight peppercorn crust and the meat was very tender. The red cabbage went extremely well with it and I put a bit of it with every bite of elk. It was so good ! It also came with spaetzle, but I have to say mine is better. If they would have added garlic and parsley to the spaetzle it would have been good also. Entrees come with a nice green salad and it tasted very fresh. Hubby had the lamb loin and it was extremely tender. He loved his dinner and ordered pinot to go with it. We had lobster cake as an appetizer. There were 2 small cakes topped with microgreens. The cakes were nestled over a green sauce that had a hint of spicy heat. They were very good. My pear vodka cocktail was divine. The flavors blended beautifully. I could have easily been greedy and ordered 2. For dessert my husband got the mocha cake with mocha ganache and crunchy bits on top. He loved it so much he didn't want to eat or drink anything after his last bite so that he could savor the flavor. It was nicely rich for those that like mocha. The dessert is very small, so no worries about not being able to finish. I got a Chicago-style strawberry cheesecake and it was yummy. The strawberry was fresh and the cheesecake was very good. I think a little less crumbly crust would have been nice to bring out the creaminess. (We overheard another waiter describe the difference in Chicago vs NY cheesecake.... NY is more dense). Sorry, photos got too dark once the sun went down to see the dessert photos well. What I love about this place is that it is in an old house that has been turned into a restaurant. It has a warm & cozy feel for a special occasion. The women's bathroom is gorgeous ! The service is excellent and I highly recommend this place for a quiet, classy dinner. It's far above most modern places we've recently been to that attempt to hype things up by blasting music to the point you can't hear the person you came with. This place has stayed true to CLASS. It is quiet and a perfect place to bring a date or for a special occasion.

Yelp
Last evening I had the pleasure of dining at the Fig Tree and it was everything and more. We had a 5 course dinner with wine pairing that spanned from salmon to veal ragu to steak to amazing dessert. This old convert house is a gem in this city and everyone should go there. The staff was attentive and amazing to host all of us.

Yelp
Expensive doesn't mean it is good. Even though this restaurant has good reviews I think either we went late or they are just overrated. Suppose to be French and Italian, but they had the worst escargot I ever had, taste like nothing and one of them had small rock/sand in them and it doesn't even look like French escargot recipe. Entree is good lamb and steak is well cook and marinated. But then again nothing overblown to remember. For this price range I was expecting more. Then dessert, if you come just get the beignets like everybody else. Our cake was kind of dry, pear was hard as a rock. Service and atmosphere is top notch. Wine menu is thicker than a Calculus textbook. Waiter and staff constantly checking up on you and cleaning your table. Food is a huge disappointment to me, I can get better grill meat and dessert from other restaurants in Charlotte area.

Yelp
Came here for a date night around Christmas after wanting to visit for a while. It's definitely an upscale price point and a unique menu, but a few things fell flat for me. We were seated in a room upstairs that just felt kind of crammed and dated. I always thought it would be so cute and quaint on the inside, so was surprised that there wasn't really much ambiance. We started with the tuna tartare dish which was delicious and probably my favorite of the evening, then we got entrees and upgraded to the Caesar salad to start which was a bit underwhelming and very undressed with some pieces of lettuce not having any dressing. I got the sea bass which was very good, it came over truffle mashed potatoes which just tasted like regular mashed potatoes to me. We ended with the eggnog crème brûlée which was just ok, it had a very thick layer of gingerbread or some type of cookie on the bottom with a thin layer of custard on top. It wasn't bad, just not exactly a crème brûlée. Overall I am glad I tried fig tree, but was a bit disappointed in the experience given the price point and the hype around the place.

Yelp
We had a lovely experience! First time patrons with The Fig Tree and fine dining. The atmosphere was awesome and service impeccable. Our food was delicious and would highly recommend! I ordered the sea scallops, which were exceptional, a terrific alcoholic beverage, and a decadent dessert. We celebrated a family birthday that night and were very impressed. Thank you so much; we will definitely be back!

Yelp
My wife and I had a lovely dinner at the Fig Restaurant. Wonderful cocktails, great salads, appetizers and entrees and wine pairings. We had dessert and after dinner drinks at the bar. Overall, enjoyable experience.

Yelp
Lovely restaurant for a special meal! Would definitely recommend. Pros: - interesting menu and the food was delicious. The sauce the escargot came in was sooo yummy. - our server Fernando provided excellent service - ambiance is warm and charming Cons - would be nice to have mocktails on the menu - the beignets were underwhelming and tasted like regular donuts

Yelp
This is a great special occasion place! We enjoyed celebrating our anniversary here, sitting at a cozy table tucked away in a corner. Our waiter was great! He was so attentive and knowledgeable, and checked in often enough that all needs were met without feeling like he was joining our date (lol). The wine list was EXTENSIVE. I found a Malbec I liked, though truly the options felt endless. The menu on the other hand was brief and easy to read. Several options really appealed to me, and I ended up choosing the veal osso busco. My partner chose the veal chop, which was also incredible. We love escargot and were happy to find that on the menu as well. Finally, we ordered cheesecake for dessert, which was fabulous, and they brought little truffles out for us, too (celebration!). Some cons: it was rather dark! I think it lended to the ambience having the dimmed lights. However, it would be nice to have *a little* brighter lights at the individual tables. Secondly, there were very few vegetarian options. As someone with dietary restrictions, I often use these as a fallback. If pescatarian, you'll be fine! But if you eat neither meat, nor fish, the options are quite limited. Finally, I would not call this the most handicap friendly restaurant. It's in an old house, which makes for nice ambiance, but restrooms are upstairs and think it could be somewhat difficult to navigate if you make wider turns. Overall, this place was incredible. I would definitely call this a special occasion place, a little pricey for everyday haunts. The experience was memorable and happy.

Yelp
In the 6+ years I have lived in Charlotte, this was by far the best overall dining experience my husband and I have had here. We were 30 minutes early for our dinner reservation, no problem we were seated right away. The music was wonderful, great jazz - perfect for dining. The room was cozy and well appointed. Even though the rooms are small the din never got too loud that we could not hear the music. Our server Michael was well informed and very professional. All the waitstaff were professional. We started with the foie gras, I had never had it before and it was delicious - fatty (greasy) but delicious. We both had salads that were perfect. Michael made great wine recommendations to complement our meals. I had the sea bass and my husband had the prime rib bison, both were cooked perfectly and delicious. We ended our meal with the chocolate flight and after dinner drinks. All in all we dined extremely well! It was a little pricey and well worth it. Cannot wait to return.

Yelp
We went for my wife's birthday and was seated right away as we had a reservation. We were greeted by very friendly hostesses and our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. Service overall was impeccable! For appetizers, we ordered the foie gras, the octopus and the pork belly. The seared foie gras was very tasty but the portion was rather small. The octopus was succulent and tender. The pork belly was very flavorful and portion size was perfect for an appetizer. For our main courses, we order the Veal and the Elk. Elk meat or elk steak will now be my new favorite go to. Very very tender and juicy almost like prime rib if you like it medium rare, however it is not gamey at all. The red cabbage that came with the elk chop had a little bitterness to it that threw me off. The Veal chop was cooked perfectly on the inside however the outside in my opinion maybe could use a little bit of charring to build a crust and a little more seasoning. The two sides that came with the veal is just good. I definitely recommend this place and would like to return again.

Rebecca L.

Yelp
We came here for our anniversary and it did not disappoint! Great service and spectacular food. Scallops were cooked perfectly. The wagyu steak was like butter. Yes yes yes to everything!

Bruce K.

Yelp
For our anniversary, we decided to come to Fig Tree to celebrate. The Fig Tree is a quaint little house turned into a restaurant. I have had memories of these types of restaurants back in Charlotte when I was younger, but the Fig Tree was a new experience since I've never been here. Seating is pretty tight and cozy, but they also had seating over AC vents. Because it's reservation heavy, if you do get an AC vent I don't think your experience will be extremely pleasant but it's still doable. There's also outdoor seating but, since it was a hot summer night we stayed inside. We started off with drinks, Sparkling Pear Martini along with several appetizers. The Lamb Carpaccio, Fois Gras, and Escargot. For mains I got the Elk Chop, because that's a piece of meat that you usually don't see on the menu. The elk was pretty good, lean, gamey, but the flavors were tasty. The appetizers stole most of my stomach as it was really filling. I did take food home, but at the end of the meal I was really satisfied. I would recommend to come here for a date, or a special event. The ambiance here is cozy and I would say if you like people watching or just listening to conversations this place is great. It's quiet and a place where you can have a good conversation with good food. Overall, I would come back to Fig Tree. It's a unique experience. Parking is a bit tight though as there are limited parking spots in the lot. Depending on when you come, I would say it may line up to the timing of those before you leaving.

Vanessa N.

Yelp
Bread: It was served one slice a time with each app. It was rosemary bread, but the rosemary taste was very muted. Apps: - Escargot was in a creamy mushroom sauce. I thought that the flavors of the escargot were a bit off but the mushroom sauce was my favorite thing of the night. Keep the sauce to dip the bread in! - Lamb carpaccio was the appetizer special. We enjoyed it. - Foie gras was ok. It didn't really have that typical fatty flavor. Entree: Each entree comes with a salad that can be replaced with a Caesar salad or soup of the day for some extra dollars. I got the duck and decided to upgrade the salad to the soup. The soup was a poblano corn bisque. There was a hint of roasted pepper taste. Duck was good and it came with cauliflower, kale, and gnocchi. The parking in front of the restaurant was limited.

Carol R.

Yelp
We had our early anniversary dinner here, and it was delicious! Upon looking at the menu, we noticed we were more interested in the apps than entrees so we decided to do a few apps and split one entree instead. Our server, Fernando, paced everything perfectly. First the escargot and pork belly came out together, followed by the octopus, and finally the grouper entree. The grouper entree was the special of the day and came with lobster meat, corn, and asparagus. Everything was so tasty. I thought I was full, but then we saw the dessert menu. We ended up splitting the beignets which was the perfect ending to a great meal. They don't take online reservations for the patio, so call ahead to snag your seat!

Yelp
This upscale restaurant located in Charlotte offers creative fine dining. Just minutes from Uptown in the Elizabeth neighborhood, is within a restored 1913 Craftsman bungalow. Reservations are required. We started with the Fried Oyster appetizer $15 with one extra $3 also the escargot $13. Enjoyed the fried oyster more. The entrees come with a salad. I had the Sea Bass with mashed potatoes $66. It is the most expensive thing on the menu but it is delicious. We had the Roasted Pear dessert $13 which was ok. The service was great.

John H.

Yelp
We had a great experience for our anniversary. On short notice we were able to get a reservation at 6:15 on a Thurs (as long as we agreed to leave by 7:45....which wasn't an issue for us). There was only one other table seated when we arrived....but the place filled up over the next hour. Neither of us are wine people, but they had a few good local beer options. We started with the Burrata ($15) and it was good - but they really should have had a few more pieces of the brioche toast (only served one). Our entrees came with the soup of the day....which was a tomato base with red pepper and it was outstanding! My bride ordered the pan roasted Scottish salmon ($36) and it was well prepared and she loved the sides. I ordered the special which was a triggerfish (which I had never had before) and it was outstanding! We were too full for dessert.....but they looked great. Service from Rich was awesome! He was a very warm and hospitable and really provided a perfect balance of attentiveness while providing us space to enjoy our evening. We loved our evening and would go back in a heartbeat!

Christina S.

Yelp
Amazing experience, service, food quality, etc. Be sure to make reservations/ plan agreed!

Yelp
Our server was amazing and ambiance was perfect!! He recommended so many amazing wines and the salads were on point. The older blonde haired host left a sour taste in our mouth though. Though the younger gals were so sweet!

Kendra B.

Yelp
Such a cute spot for date night. My husband and I went last night for the first time, celebrating our anniversary. It was perfect weather to sit on the patio and we did just that (with a reservation, of course). Service was excellent (Thanks, Eddie!). We started with scallops as an appetizer. Delicious. Only problem was that I wanted more as the appetizer only comes with 3 so my husband and I had one full scallop each and split the third. What a tease! Thankfully the fresh made bread dipped in rosemary infused olive oil and fresh garlic spread held us over 'til more food rolled out. We kept getting more bread and couldn't refuse it when they asked if we wanted more. We then had salads and butternut squash soup (soup of the day). I highly recommend that soup. It had some sort of delicious bacon jam stuff mixed in which gave it a lot of flavor. The fresh grated cheese on top was an added bonus. For entrees, my hubby ordered the Elk. Our server recommended that he order it medium instead of his usual medium rare temperature. I tried a piece. It was dense, but flavorful. I couldn't eat more than a couple bites. My husband almost finished it. I went to the restaurant thinking I'd order my usual filet, but the special sounded great so I gave it a try. I knew I might not have the opportunity to try it if we came back and the filet appears to always be on the menu. It was was wahoo (a Hawaiian whitefish). It was seared to perfection atop a crab, mushroom, and corn risotto. Asparagus for garnishment. Really nice dish. For dessert, we finished with beignets which were pretty good. Overall, great ambiance, service, and food.

Jennifer I.

Yelp
The best upscale meal I have ever had the service was impeccable cannot recommend this place enough, especially for a special occasion

Yelp
Great fancy date night restaurant! Restaurant in an old house. Food is divine!! Eclectic menu. Everything was delicious! Staff was very accommodating.

Joshua I.

Yelp
Wonderful first time experience thanks to a wonderfully attentive and vibrant staff, charmingly decorated design and a Menu nearly impossible to choose from! Phenomenal experience from the beginning with their complimentary focaccia bread made in house, followed by our orders of the Fried Oysters, Pork Belly and the Escargot. Oysters were my wife's favorite of the three because of the unique mix of flavors and the texture. Pork Belly was my Brothers favorite and was cooked to perfection offering a little crisp and tenderness. My fav was the escargot because while yes it was wonderful, the Gorgonzola and Mushroom sauce that it comes in made all the difference. (Pairs wonderfully with the focaccia!!). Moving on to the entrees, we shared the Elk Chop, Sea Bass and the Filet. All A+ but unfortunately I forgot to grab photos of these . Warm and attentive service that offered a congratulatory dessert gesture because my wife is pregnant! Overall phenomenal time, and sets the bar for any restaurant who's goal is to be the best.

Megan L.

Yelp
The Fig Tree is definitely a "special occasion" restaurant. The service was great - our server was so friendly and helped us make decisions on what to get. He was sure to ask if we were there for a special occasion (we were) and was very attentive the whole meal. We had the calamari (not pictures) as an appetizer and it was delicious. The caesar salad was probably one of the best I've had. The tomato soup was the soup of the day - it came cold which was unexpected but it was delicious. The main courses were fantastic. The red snapper was the special for the day and the risotto with it really made the meal. The duck was really good as well, with great gnocchi. There were quite a few options for dessert. I liked our choice, but it didn't blow me away. The ice cream was the best part. Dessert was followed by complimentary bon bons which I thought was such a nice touch! We wanted an upscale experience and definitely got that here. It was pretty expensive, but the experience overall was superior. Will definitely come back to celebrate major life events!

Sydney Y.

Yelp
Overall, a solid nice dinner spot in Charlotte. The scallops were good, however I wasn't much a fan of the Couscous served underneath and wish there was more corn. The escargot and burrata appetizers were my favorite and the octopus was good but didn't love the veggies under. My parents loved both of the fish dishes they got and did not want to share! I was heading to grad school and our waiter was so personable and kind and had the pastry chef make me a congratulations dessert which was SO delicious! We also had the pear and lemon dessert but we liked the special made dessert better.

Lys N.

Yelp
Our experience at The Fig Tree was overshadowed by a few discomforting factors. The seating arrangement in a small room made us feel compelled to whisper throughout our meal. To add to our unease, the man seated next to us was accompanied by an escort, and their conversations, which were audible to us, touched on topics that made us quite uncomfortable. Despite the food being delicious, the overall atmosphere left much to be desired.

Ashley S.

Yelp
Incredible spot for a special dinner that you are willing to shell out a little for. The ambiance is so unique and cozy. A great space to sit down for a few hours and really enjoy the company of others. Food is traditional and high quality. This will be a regular in our special occasion rotation.

Zekeyahi S.

Yelp
Phenomenal experience! Timeless and elegant decor. Service was by far the BEST I have ever had! I waitress was extremely knowledgeable about menu and food providing details on recommend meat temperatures, cook, etc. Our glasses (wine and water) were never empty and the staff ensured we were taken care from entrée to desserts. The food was phenomenal! Everything was delicious. From the crab cakes and elk to the cheesecake, the flavors were sensational! Highly recommended and we will be returning.

Derrick B.

Yelp
Went to The Fig Tree as I was visiting Charlotte for the first time. Amazing food, awesome drinks, great service and fabulous dessert...got the beignet with cinnamon glaze and ice cream...I know, you cannot go wrong with that :)

Jim F.

Yelp
Let me start by stating, last month we had the opportunity to dine at a Michelin Star Chef/Owner restaurant up north. After enjoying their tasting/wine pairing we wondered if there was any restaurant in our hometown that could compare. Indeed there is, the Fig Tree. We ordered their Chef surprise tasting paired with their selection of wines. The food would definitely rival any Manhattan MS restaurant and the wine pairing was generous and very good. I highly recommend giving it a try. We plan to return next month.

Demian S.

Yelp
One of charlottes finest Consistent With food and service Fine dining without being to stuffy

Matt S.

Yelp
This was a true elevated experience with every detail taken care of. Drinks were incredible and food even better. The sweet potato soup was rich and creamy. Burrata app was a great start along with Octopus (octopus slightly chewy but still delicious). Scallops flavorful and well prepared. Sea bass was by far best thing we had..full lobster chunks included. The building and space overall is historic but well maintained very old school feel.

Cammy B.

Yelp
We went during restaurant week for our anniversary dinner. The service is top notch and I guess that's what you're paying for. The food wasn't as amazing as I thought. Both main course left something to be desire. The sea bass is such a good fatty flavor fish but it just tasted like any other fish when prepared the way they did with the lobster, sweet corn, and mashed potatoes just take away from the fatty fish flavor. The lobster made it smell fishy. The Guinea fowl was ok but needed more flavor as well. My favorite dish from the dinner was probably the onion soup and the Foie Gras. The onion soup was so creamy and delicious just like a lobster bisque but without the lobster (tasted better than the lobster bisque at some place). The Foie Gras was very interesting. It melted in your mouth just like a fatty pork belly, not like the goose liver taste I was expecting. We got the Vineyard Gâteaux for dessert. Too much honey flavor. Not as good as I was expecting it to be.

Gianna F.

Yelp
Chose this restaurant for our anniversary and it was awesome. The food and service were both great. The ambiance is definitely intimate- we sat inside but would definitely go back to sit on the cute patio outside. The portions were much bigger than expected and we didn't make it to dessert unfortunately but the veal chop and the elk chop were both very good. Overall, would absolutely recommend.

John S.

Yelp
Restaurant is located essentially in a house, which is unique. They have good decorations, but when we were there, there was no music playing, so not much of an ambiance. We started with the octopus, and I got the elk roast with an upgraded salad (with goat cheese and walnuts), and my wife got the special of the day, which was the Alaskan halibut. She got hers with the mushroom soup. The octopus was over cooked and very chewy. The sauce it came with was good though! My wife's mushroom soup was rich and good, she enjoyed it, but it's definitely a heavier soup. I really enjoyed my salad, and would get it again. As for the elk roast, I had to add a bunch of salt to it. I ordered it as a medium rare plus (between medium rare and medium). The first couple bites looked over cooked, but closer to the bone it became much more medium rare plus - so perfect cooking there. Again I was adding salt, but it tasted very good and I finished the whole thing. I didn't touch much of the subbed mashed potatoes since I was very full, but they were good. It seemed like they added a ton of butter to it, which I'm not a fan of, but it's fine. The elk sausage was absolutely incredible - very tender somehow, and the flavor was great. Overall good meal with a big miss on the octopus, but I would recommend for their unique entree options like the elk!

Rose E.

Yelp
I know this is considered one of the best restaurants in Charlotte, but I never found their menu too appealing...so I've turned down opportunities to go here for years...well, decades! However, recently, I checked out their fancy schmancy desserts on Yelp...and THIS is why I finally chose this place to celebrate our latest anniversary. The place was exactly as I expected...Old fashioned, southern, and quaint. Nice, classic ambiance, but not really my cup of tea...in that I prefer more chic, stylish elegance OR modern and edgy. Their patio area was quite small and claustrophobic, but somewhat charming, so we chose to sit outside. We didn't find any of their appetizers appetizing, so decided to have soup and salad instead. Their Soup of the Day (Poblano?) was surprisingly good. My husband had the basic House Salad, and I had Caesar Salad with Fried Calamari (5 bucks extra). Now, I REALLY liked this! Wondered why other restaurants haven't thought of this unique idea. Truly, there weren't too many items on the entree menu that appealed to me...but we decided to go with fish. I chose their Salmon dish, and my husband had the NC Mountain Trout. Honestly, I wasn't blown over with its deliciousness, but it was better than I had expected. For some reason, I expected a super-skimpy portion...but it was fairly substantial. Also, my Salmon had a juicy, savory flavor. Think my husband felt the same about his dish. (but honestly? I thought his dish was ridiculously pricey for what it was...a thin portion of fish w/ veggies only, no carbs). I tried their Pear Martini, and it was good...but nothing extraordinary. BTW, I loved their smooth jazzy overhead music...but I just didn't understand why it was on so low. I wished it would drown out the traffic noise. I always wonder why so many restaurants in Charlotte are so conservative with the volume of the music. I personally think great overhead music can make or break the ambiance. In this case, their GREAT music did nothing...in that the volume was so low. Now, here's where things got truly disappointing...their desserts. Especially so because I came expecting SO much better after browsing thru their nearly "food art" caliber pics on Yelp (like check out the OLD pictures of their Pavlova or Chevre Cheesecake). For starters, they no longer serve the beautiful Pavlova dessert. After some indecisions, we decided to try the Chevre Cheesecake...with some expectations (again, I saw pictures beforehand!). Well, the dessert looked nothing like what I saw. In fact, it looked like a standard cheesecake, and the presentation was just not that "fancy" (honestly, it bordered on ugly). SO disappointing!! I mean, THIS is the reason I chose to come here...for their fancy desserts! I liked the small iced cream accompaniment more than the cheesecake itself. They did slap on "Happy Anniversary" on the plate, which was thoughtful...but it wasn't complimentary. They did, however, give us these 2 small balls (truffles?) of Pumpkin. Sweet gesture, but I was a bit surprised. At every "nice" restaurant in town, we always got complimentary dessert on our anniversaries. In fact, Steak 48 last year, we got an extravagant Beignet TREE...a HUGE gift! The year before at Eddie V, we not only got an amazing dessert with candles (and confetti?), they gave me a Rose flower!! But here, just 2 small truffle balls lol. Overall, I had mixed feelings about this place...some good, some not so good. I thought their foods were solid, but I wasn't amazed by any of it. With such high ratings and the buzz over the years, I just expected MORE. From hostess to waitress and busboy, everything was quite smooth and seamless. No issues there. I guess my biggest issue was their changes in the dessert menu (a big drop in quality?)...and some other things mentioned above. NOT impressed. At least now I checked out this Charlotte staple, and saw a bit of what they had to offer. Think we'll be returning to Eddie V or Steak 48 several times before (if ever) returning here.

Yelp
3.5 with a bump up to 4 for service and ambience. This is a good restaurant with classy ambience and solid service. Food was hit or miss for us though. It's a dining experience and as such, dinner is served at a leisurely pace. Make sure you allocate 2-2.5 hours if you dine here and make reservations. Service was top notch. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu, kept our sweet tea and bread plate refilled and was thoroughly attentive. Ambience is on the upscale side. The tables are sectioned off in different rooms of the house. We were seated upstairs and I can see that each room was occupied by 2 -3 dining tables. There were more tables but they were kept vacant. Not sure if that was due to covid protocols because when I checked online for reservation times, it appeared to be fully booked during our timeframe. (I booked ahead for our reservation). The complimentary focaccia bread was delicious! It was soft and pillowy on the interior and served with oil and soft buttery roasted garlic. It would have been perfect if the bread came out warm though. As delicious as the bread was, a few pieces had too much salt sprinkled on top. Our appetizers were delicious. We ordered the sautéed shrimp (4 pieces) - sauce was intricate and tasty. We also ordered the burrata. Portion was small (1 small ball) but the burrata was really good. For entrees, we ordered: Veal chop- very good, tender and tasty Scallops- hubby got this and said it was too salty. Shortly after our dinner, his stomach didn't feel well. Filet mignon- we ordered medium but it came well done. Our server agreed it was overcooked and replaced it with a medium rare piece. I didn't try it but I don't think the person who ordered it liked it. It was only half eaten and the portion wasn't big. NC trout- this is what I ordered and I loved the dish. The trout was perfectly cooked and buttery. It was topped with heirloom tomatoes which complimented it well. You have to eat the trout together with the topping to get the full experience. Our entrees came with salad or corn bisque (for an up charge). The salad was fresh and tasted good. Corn bisque was tasty with a prominent corn taste and had just the right amount of creaminess but 2 of the 3 bowls of corn bisque was too salty. We ordered the cheesecake for dessert and it was decent. We were celebrating an early birthday and they made it very special by adding an inscription to our cheesecake and then they surprised us with a plate of proliferoles! I rate the food 3.5 stars for the following reasons: 1) hubby's stomach wasn't feeling well after the dinner 2) filet mignon could be improved 3) too much salt sprinkled on a few of the items That being said, service and ambience was top notch and I think if you order the right dishes, this could be an amazing dinner experience.

Yelp
Dinner here was very good and Bill, our server, was outstanding. We had the pear martini & thirst & how cocktails. Delicious! We had the octopus for appetizer, butternut soup. For main course we had the sea bass & filet, both excellent. Dessert was mont blanc that we shared and we didn't like it unfortunately. All in all, we will definitely be back.

Yelp
Pretty good. I ordered the Filet and came out good but not a lot of gnocchi and spinach/mushroom came out with it. Like that it comes with a salad and ambiance is nice.

Yelp
My husband and I checked this restaurant out when we were in Charlotte for an anniversary celebration. The interior of the restaurant, location, and service were excellent and we would give a 5/5 for that. The restaurant is an old craftsman home with some parking on the outside and a cute cozy feel. It was a bit too quiet inside and we could hear other people eating and talking so some ambient music would've been nice. The food was overall average, and would rate some dishes 3/5 and others 4/5 as detailed below. Since we weren't that impressed with the food, the overall rating is 4/5 for me. The grilled octopus - 3/5, would skip this one. Though the accompaniments were well thought of, the octopus itself was rubbery and over cooked. We also had some house-made focaccia bread that was cold and didn't have much flavor. If this was warm it would've made a big difference. Mushroom soup - 4/5, the soup has really fresh favors of mushrooms but is mostly heavy cream and feels quite fatty. Alaskan halibut - 4/5, would recommend to fish fans. The fish itself had a nice sear and was flaky and well cooked. The accompanying risotto was good but had a lot of heavy cream and lost some of the lobster flavor. Elk - 4.5/5, the flavors of the elk were really the highlight of the meal and we loved the elk sausage especially. However, we asked for medium rare and it was cooked more on the medium well side hence the half point off. The accompanying potato's were really good. If you're looking for a unique dish and like red meat - this is for you. The waiter brought us a nice dessert to end our meal with the plate stating "happy anniversary" which was a really sweet way to end the meal.

Yelp
We finally found "our special place!" My husband took me here for an early Valentine's Day dinner and to celebrate something else important in our lives. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left, we felt welcomed, cozy and at home. The staff / waiters were very knowledgable about the dishes on the menu, what wines would pair best and they were very friendly. The food was truly phenomenal -- perfectly cooked and extremely flavorful. It was not an issue in the least to have the chef make some accommodations to the meal I ate because of food allergies. This was an added plus for me personally. We had such a lovely evening and look forward to coming back again soon!

Yelp
A top notch, quiet and fancy place to dine. Perfect for celebrating something special in a classy way. I came here to celebrate my birthday (along with at least 4 other parties), and am extremely satisfied with the experience from start to finish. Definitely make a reservation, as this spot looked to be booked up(I made a reservation online 3 weeks in advance). A soon as we arrived, we were greeted warmly and taken to our table immediately, and then greeted by our server Corey, who was fantastic, extremely helpful and provided just the right amount of commentary for everything, perhaps the best server I have had in Charlotte this year! We started with drinks, and old fashioned and a paper plane, and then chose the escargot as our appetizer. The escargot was fine, but the gorgonzola sauce was amazing, and perfect for dipping the fresh bread into to mop it all up(and thanks to our server for recommending this and providing extra bread). On to the mains, I had the halibut and lobster tail, and my wife the elk chop. I will say the elk chop was pretty darn tasty, but my dish was by far the star. The halibut was cooked perfectly, with a perfect balance of sear and buttery flavor, blended expertly with the spinach and risotto it rested on. The lobster tail was equally tasty, again with a rich, buttery perfect flavor. Finally for desert we tried the begnets, which they decorated with a little candle and a happy birthday. They come with coffee ice cream which pairs quite well, and are not the classic begnets, but more like freshly fried and warm donut holes dusted with sugar; but very good! All in all a great experience I highly recommend, especially if you like a classic house setting instead of a more modern fancy restaurant vibe.

Yelp
A high class fabulous experience from start to finish! I haven't been to an upscale restaurant since moving to Charlotte and this one will be hard to top. This is the kind of place where collared shirts or sport coats are expected. White table cloth service is provided. The atmosphere matched the prices on the menu. All of the above reasons are why my husband and I celebrated his birthday here. We split the escargot which came in the most delicious Gorgonzola cream sauce. The plate was served warm with a chunk of Gorgonzola cheese in the middle that was continuously melting to provide more sauce.. excellent for dipping the house made bread in. I had the elk chop.. 100% recommend. It was filling, seasoned, and cooked to perfection. Similar to steak but to me, it seemed more flavorful. If that wasn't enough, the cabbage and herb spaetzle was delicious! My husband had the halibut and lobster tail. He raved how fresh it was. We had the beignets for desert. They weren't traditional beignets found in New Orleans, but rather just donuts sprinkled with sugar. Still good though! Service was on point from start to finish. Easy street parking.

Yelp
Highly recommended, strong service, a bit of a miss on the flavors, though. Fig Tree knew it was our anniversary and mentioned it several times, including a gratis dessert with thoughtful words on the plate. The server we had was professional, efficient, and attentive. We enjoyed the grill octopus for a starter, the mushroom soup, and the lamb shank. All three of those were well prepared, but none were wow(!) in their taste. It was a good meal, for sure, but for how much the place is recommended the gap seemed like a miss. We'll try again and see if we missed because we ate so late on a busy Saturday night.

Yelp
Good spot. 1) Come here if you want to spend big on a very special occasion. 2) Come here for the service and elegance, more so then the food. 3) The food here is good, but it is 4x more expensive than comparable meals.

Yelp
Came here with high expectations because of such high ratings and "fancy" category. Honestly, the price is fancy and maybe the wine, but I wouldn't say the food is. It is a much more of a traditional aesthetics, small parking, and small cute outdoor seatings. Decided to bring my sister and BIL to this place for a birthday celebration. I got salad and a fried egg over some pork belly (don't remember the name), duck, and lamb chop. We got dessert too, but honestly I don't even remember what I got anymore and didn't take a picture of it either. The flavors, overall is nothing special and unique about it. I actually struggled finding their menu appealing. I think this is more home cooking than fine dining. Service was not bad. Standard.

Yelp
My son and I went to The Fig Tree for a Birthday celebration, and had an excellent meal and wonderful service. I would definitely go back for a special occasion. The escargot and tuna tartar were delicious, and our waitress made great recommendations for our drinks and entrees.
