The Best Jazz Nights In Miami

"The Fish House is the only place in Miami where pirates and jazz collide (please email us if we’re wrong). The dining room decor of this Sunset seafood spot includes a buccaneer corralling a shark and a giant gold seahorse. But The Fish House has a secret: an area called BackRoom, where they host live music Wednesday through Saturday (Wednesday is jazz night). BackRoom is separated from the rest of Fish House, and it feels like stepping into a nautical Mardi Gras afterparty, with purple and green beads strung on a lamppost, glass chandeliers, and giant bubbles hanging from the ceiling. There’s a $7 cover charge, and it’s better to call and reserve a table than take your chances at the door. It’s a great spot to eat some shrimp and enjoy sea bass while jamming to jazz bass. " - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo

The Fish House Review - Sunset - Miami - The Infatuation

"The Fish House is the only place in Miami where pirates and jazz collide. The dining room decor of this Sunset seafood spot includes a buccaneer corralling a shark, a giant gold seahorse, and more trophy fish than your Uncle Troy’s man cave. But The Fish House has a secret: an area called BackRoom, where they host live music Wednesday through Saturday. Wednesday is jazz night—our favorite. Thursday is all about the blues, and Fridays and Saturdays are a mix of local artists and DJs. BackRoom is separated from the rest of Fish House, and it feels like stepping into a nautical Mardi Gras afterparty, with purple and green beads strung on a lamppost, glass chandeliers, and dozens of giant bubbles hanging from the ceiling. There’s a $5-$7 cover charge, and it’s better to call and reserve a table than take your chances at the door. It’s a great spot to eat some shrimp and enjoy sea bass while jamming to jazz bass. If you're curious, you can see a schedule of their upcoming live music schedule ." - Virginia Otazo

7 Miami Restaurants With Live Music

"Fish House is a South Miami seafood restaurant with a huge menu, a lovely raw bar selection, and some of the most consistent live music programming in the city. They’ve thankfully adapted through the pandemic and are still putting on shows - they’ve moved it from the their indoor stage to the parking lot where they have some covered outdoor seating. You can see a schedule of their upcoming performances online." - ryan pfeffer

I loved it! If you’re looking for delicious fish or seafood, this is the place to go. The restaurant featured live music and was beautifully decorated. Both the food and drinks were fantastic. We only had to wait a few minutes for a table, and the food arrived quickly afterward. 🤩🤩

Google

We were a party of 6. The place is cozy and near our house so we took family that came from out of town. The place was a little warm, not sure if AC was working. The food was delicious and fresh. Adam our server was very professional and gave us good service although the food took a little while to come out. Thank you and we will return.

Google
The place is Amazing, The food is excellent and the staff is great. We strongly recommend the grilled octopus starter , it's very good , lobster was excellent, Mahi Mahi was top notch , and out of the staff , I commend juan Reyes, very helpful and good reccomendations , will definitely come again. (I highly recommend this Location) Our second time around Dylan was our waiter and was very attentive to our needs and very friendly with good recommendations.

Google
Our server Ashley, definitely the best, she explained everything in the menu. The food taste so good, just perfection! Thanks for existing in Miami, Fl!

Google
I have been here a couple times now. The service is great, by the server and the gentleman who helps bus the tables. I always enjoy the fresh food here such as the Mussels fra Diablo or any other fresh fish options, rather than deep fried. The flavors are superb. The cocktails are another reason to come here as they are reasonably priced for a Miami area restaurant. The prices for food have gone up a couple dollars on items since I have last come here, but the portions are still plenty. I will return again

Google
Wonderful, fresh and delicious seafood. I have been going to this family owned restaurant for decades, and have never once been disappointed. From the smoked fish dip to the new addition of a sushi and sashimi menu, everything is flavorful and absolutely impeccably prepared. The service is always friendly and anticipating all your needs. I highly recommend The Fish House, it is our go to restaurant for the best and freshest seafood in Miami.

Yelp
It's a shame to leave a negative review for a restaurant that actually serves good food! Unfortunately this place has a small room in the back with live entertainment that they bypass multiple empty tables, sometimes even putting small "reserved" signs on those tables. They sit you in the back, don't say why and charge a cover per person. We have been caught in this situation about three times in the last 6 months. Tonight they started to walk us to the back, again multiple empty booths. I said we were not interested in the show and the guy said he had to put us on a waiting list. We were a party of two and there were multiple clean empty tables. We waiting 10 minutes and decided to take our business elsewhere. It's a shame.. Response to Angela's message 5/15/2025: this was the 3rd time we were taken to the back room and both other times were charged per head the cover without being told there was a cover charge. Your response does not encourage me to return

Yelp
I live Fish House! Laid back vibe with little random trinkets and whimsical decor.. gives a Nee Orleans type of vibe. The food here is always great. And the little back room is a GREAT time with different live bands through the week Timeless place so glad it's still Around

Yelp
Great vibes! Amazing food! Good service! Live music, very simple and the fish cant get any fresher! Omg

Yelp
Been wanting to try the fish house for some time now. Finally dropped by today for lunch. The ambiance was really sea food / Florida marine life. It always feels comforting when you see all the fisherman pics and memorabilia in a seafood establishment. The service was good and very attentive. They didn't miss a beat. We tried the lobster bisque soup and New England clam chowder which both very delicious. The steamed clams were fire! We tried the fish creole and fried fish chunks from lunch section on the menu. They both came with 1 side we did the yellow rice. The creole wasn't too flavorful it need more taste to it. It was decent. Besides the creole, everything else was good. The menu is vast so hopefully I'll be back soon to try some plates. Thank you !

Yelp
I really enjoy this restaurant and I've come here several times. For whatever reason every time I come here they see me at the same table. I'm not sure why I don't especially like the table. I know they have music in the other room and they never see me in there although I never asked to maybe that's why. That being said, I have ordered the number of things here. They start out with a complementary fish dip and crackers. My wife is not a fan, but I love it. I have had the fried whole fish and feel it can compete with any restaurant on how delicious it tastes and how fresh it is. Their stone crab claws are reasonably priced. Their cracked conk is a bit salty for my taste, but still enjoyable. But my go to here is always the mahi cancun, which is broiled and topped with an awesome creole sauce. The mahi tacos are a treat as well. They have a wonderful happy hour with great prices. I find the hapoy hour food portions to be quite adequate. Service is quick but friendliness varies. Solid restaurant which i visit regularly.

Yelp
We went to the fish house on a Saturday for lunch and the restaurant was fairly empty. We were seated immediately. Our waitress was so nice and attentive and the food came out pretty quickly. They give you a small serving of fish dip when you first sit, I checked in and was able to get the full size for the table. This fish dip is amazing. We ate the entire thing and would definitely order again. For my entree, I ordered the lobster roll and it was loaded with lobster. It's served with warm butter on the side for dipping and it was the perfect touch. Pro tip: dip the fries in the butter

Yelp
Fish house is still a good time. They have fresh ingredients and each dish is made with love. You can also purchase fresh seafood here since it's also a market and don't forget to try the variety of sushi. You can sit at the bar and watch your meal being prepared. Almost everyday there are specials but they always have some entertainment going on as well. Everyday thus place is packed but come here once.for the food and you'll keep coming back too. Check their website out to see the daily specials and what live entertainment they have going on. Also the owner is always there and sjes he sweetest. They have a pretty good thing going on here plus the decor is fun. Think Key west, nautical, and pirates. It's just still a cool place, with good music, entertainment, and fantastic food!

Yelp
The fish dip was very good and what they're known for. The garlic bread was only ok. The pasta was tasty but not amazing. The service was fantastic. They had a live band playing in the background a pretty cool decorations with a sea theme. Overall this is a good restaurant.

Yelp
New procedure now adding 3.5% to price for credit card. Everyone should start advising this to others so that you pick a place that doesn't pass on a business expense to customers or servers. Pathetic. Reporting them to Florida Department of Revenue tomorrow as the added fees are taxable

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! Been coming here for years and every time I step in through those doors there's a sort of comfort that grows within me. Nothing beats enjoying the friendliest service in town, great seafood paired with a bottle of wine, and live music in the homey backroom. 10/10 every. single. time.
google avatar

Imani P.

Yelp
Love this place! Everything is always fresh. Customer service was pretty good. They also have live music some evenings.

Norma L.

Yelp
My husband and I went there for dinner on a Friday night. The ambiance was fine and the service attentive. After looking at the menu he ordered a cup of the fish soup and I ordered the conch chowder. He ordered the dinner portion of scallops that comes with one side order. When it arrived we both just stared at the plate. There were 4 scallops and a few pieces of potato cut up. This is what they served for $36. I seriously thought it was the appetizer but no it was the dinner portion. I found the portion size to be stingy. They should have served at least 6 scallops and a baked potato. I ordered sushi which was a better value at $20. No bread is served with the food. Nothing else included. Needless to say he was still hungry when we left so we went elsewhere to get something else. We won't be going back.

Yelp
Decent lobster pasta and oysters for the run. Very dark cramped bar with lots of jazz music and seafood to go around. Servers were standard.
google avatar

Liza M.

Yelp
We visited the Backroom for the first time and it was cozy and chill. We loved it. The food was amazing and the service was awesome.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place! Seafood and sushi is always fresh and the service is great! They have jazz night which is always fun to liven up the ambiance on Friday night. If you're looking for a place for great seafood, and lots of options, don't skip out on this place.

Jackie F.

Yelp
I feel bad but I was disappointed with this place. 1st they charge u $10.00 to see the band play even if u r having a meal and drinks! ABSURD!!!!! The fish came dry and everything was over cooked. Not going back!

Yelp
I hesitate to even write this in fear of never being able to get a table in here again. All I can say is WOW! I have been searching high and low for the perfect seafood restaurant... something that reminds me of home and growing up on the gulf coast of Florida. I've finally found it! In an unassuming strip mall sits the hidden gem of Miami. This place has been serving locals since 1998 and it's easy to see why. From start to finish, we have never been so impressed by a restaurant experience. We came in on Valentine's Day evening around 8:30 and were immediately greeted by a sweet hostess who was happy to welcome us newcomers. We were offered to sit in the back room for live jazz music for a $10 cover charge and happily accepted. The room transports you to New Orleans with its eclectic decor, NOLA-style balcony on the front wall, and of course the stage in the back. I didn't see much of the rest of the restaurant until a trip to the bathroom led me past two other dining areas, adorned with nautical decor, and a prominent display of delicious raw seafood ready to make its way to your plate. Our waitress arrived with a sample of fish dip and crackers for each of us, which was a lovely surprise. She was wonderfully attentive all while letting us enjoy our evening together uninterrupted. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio and a dozen raw oysters to start. The oysters were perfectly sized, shucked well, and ICE COLD! They didn't last long at our table. After carefully weighing the options on the expansive menu, I decided to keep it old school and go with a Fresh Catch option served with one side. I chose the black grouper, grilled, with a lemon caper sauce and a Caesar salad. The salad came quickly and was large enough to split. The grouper was deliciously delicate and the sauce just phenomenal. My boyfriend chose the Mahi Mardi Gras chef's special that came smothered with a crawfish étouffée-like sauce on top all over a bed of white rice. Nothing like some crawfish and mahi with every bite. The portion was large and tough to finish. The highlight of the evening was the live music. I knew in advance that it was jazz night and their website listed a performer. To our surprise, this incredibly talented woman brought along with her several talented students of hers. Every single one of them sang beautifully, and the band was no less impressive. Towards the end, some regulars showed up and one of them joined the singer on stage for an "unforgettable" duet and a solo of his own. I can't underscore enough just how much we enjoyed it all. Like I said, I grew up in the panhandle of Florida and just can't get enough of good, fresh seafood - especially at a reasonable price point. I imagine everything on the menu is worth every penny! Even more, with Louisiana & Texas roots in my family, it was amazing to taste those perfect flavors and feel the sense of Cajun camaraderie I'm so accustomed to in the middle what can be a less-than-friendly city of Miami. Throughout the night, we couldn't stop smiling. We got home and immediately told everyone in ear shot they have to go to this place for their next date night! I simply can't wait to return. ‍

Olga R.

Yelp
Went there with 2 of my friends and the food was great. The price was reasonable and the service and ambiance was also great. The waitress was very patient with us imagine 3 girlfriends getting together that haven't seen or talk for a long time. we were still talking after dinner for a awhile

Yelp
Hello everybody and I hope you are all doing very well. Well what can I say but that The Fish House is totally awesome. This restaurant has been around for many, many years in a very unassuming part of Miami, located in a strip mall on Miller Drive and 109 avenue in Kendall. Not where you would expect to find this little gem of a seafood restaurant for sure. No matter whether you are looking for raw bar items, traditional seafood or sushi, this place does it right and their prices will not break the bank either! Truthfully we have been coming here for years not just for dinner but to purchase fresh seafood from their market area. Atmosphere is great and very laid back as well. Nice times and you almost feel like you are somewhere in the Keys, which is perfect. Service is also excellent and our server provided us with a few good ideas as well. On this particular occasion we decided to go with the Colossal Shrimp cocktail and the Grilled Octopus to start. Both were amazing and the shrimp were huge! Only four included but believe me they were big enough. For our main courses we ordered the Caribbean Rice with Shrimp and the Chilean Sea Bass with Grilled Shrimp in a Parmesan sauce. Both were excellent and the fish and shrimp were super fresh as well. I highly recommend if you want to try something new for seafood that you give them a shot. I don't think you will be disappointed and it is well worth the drive. Hell I drove 15 miles to get here myself! Parking will not be a problem either guys as their is plenty available in the strip mall. Wishing you all the best, Enjoy and Bon Appétit!

Yelp
Uhhhh!!! Where has this place been all of my life. Everything, I mean everything we ordered was amazing! This is a pescatarian's dream restaurant! The bad part of this place, if you want to call it negative, is that there were so many options for an indecisive person! (My hubby helps me with that). Just say, my husband's bday was a foody's paradise!!! From fried conch, to fish dip, to shrimp scampiiiii (of the scampi was devine), to sea bass (perfectly cooked), to an entire, whole fried fish ) seasoned to perfection, to the OysterRockefeller (oh mah dayum)! The drinks were delicious! I had a pitcher of sangria, and the fruits (although it was probably from a can) were so sweet. Our waitress was cool. She helped us with questions that we had. At first, we felt kinda rushed by her. However, towards the end of our meal, she was good. It seemed as though it was her personality. Still 5 stars! One of the things I am not sure of is, there is jazz and blues live in a particular room. I make reservations because I was not sure if a Saturday night would be packed. They reserved our seat for two, but we were eating in the room without the band. This was neither parties fault, I've just never been there and am not sure if you have to request the room with the band, so if you want the entire experience, ask to be seated there. The live band was so nice and relaxing that we ended up adding them to out Spotify! The cover charge is $7 per person, and after dinner, our waitress walked us over, and we sat on a seat/bench that they removed the tables from the front of them. Overall GREAT experience. We will be back. The worst part is that I work very closely! Lunch with the coworkers?! Noooooooo!!
google avatar

Raymond J.

Yelp
A recommendation from my friend they lives local. A place to come for fresh fish and seafood. A place where you can come hang out and chat not get rushed out. They have enough room on the weekdays to not be rushed out. The slogan is "we not fancy, but we're fresh". Check in on yelp and get a free fish dip app. They give you a small sample, but the free app is a big portion, with tortillas chips. My Havana Banana Mahi was cooked perfectly. I'd order that anytime! The beans were a little weird to be with that dish, but tastes excellent and seemed fresh and steaming hot. The salsa was nice and fresh. Absolutely loved it! Blackened mahi tacos full of meat and flavor. Definitely a place the locals love
google avatar

Rosy F.

Yelp
Miller Road staple! Such a wonderful spot for fresh seafood with an extensive variation/choices.
google avatar

Linzer T.

Yelp
I visited this restaurant as I was here to see family and was looking for a good place to get some fish. Happy to say they made a forever customer. Everything is fresh and service is always excellent (I've been here 3x) and I will keep returning as long as they're open. I ordered the catfish which is consistently excellent. I've always eaten in and never had a dirty table and if it was they are quick and attentive to your needs. The feeling inside is welcoming. Looking forward to my next visit. Next time I will be sure to post photos as I seem to forget every time.

Yelp
Came here last Saturday night and it was great! Surprised by the live band that was performing (2nd Saturday of every month). For the food, my girl ordered the mahi tacos with rice and beans and I ordered the mahi dish that came with mango. It was delicious. Service was great waitress was attentive. Would definitely come back again.
google avatar

Janet C.

Yelp
Excellent food, excellent service. Waitress was very attentive. Their menu selection is huuuge. Pretty difficult to choose what to get. All of our options were a winner. The grilled octopus is the best one i have tried so far in Miami. Highly recommend. They have Wed Jazz Night, Thursday Blues night and Fri--Sun live music. I will be coming back during one of those nights for sure.
google avatar

Lily R.

Yelp
Shrimp lunch special is a good deal . The yellow rice is so delicious ! The scallops dinner was 4 scallops one side and a bit pricey but perfectly cooked .
google avatar

Frank C.

Yelp
This restaurant is consistently excellent. Came here for an early dinner after an even last night. Wife has the shrimp and pasta (enough for me meals) and I had the grilled dolphin filet. Both meals were perfect. But, the lobster bisque we started with was fantastic. Don't miss this gem.
google avatar

Frank A.

Yelp
Really good seafood here. We were a party of 7 Started out with conch fritters and cocktail shrimp. The shrimp were big and fresh. The conch fritters were also excellent. Some ordered coconut shrimp which had about 15 shrimp with fries. I tried one and it was excellent. The Mahi Tacos were also excellent. The Chirashi was good have had better. The Havana Mahi was also very well received. The waiter Dilon gave us great service! Great Seafood place , very nice people working there plus the place was clean.

Brian H.

Yelp
Service, food and back room music is fantastic! We always have a great time. The jazz nights are fun.
google avatar

Christina O.

Yelp
I have only been here for jazz but this time I came for the food and boy was I happy! It was nice that instead of giving the usual bread and butter to greet guests they gave a small portion of fish dip and crackers. We order the kani avocado - personally it had way too much Mayo. For my entree, I ordered the lobster stuffed salmon in buttery caper sauce and wow it was so moist and paired perfectly with the side of yellow rice. My partner ordered the salmon roll and I was surprised as to how hefty and fresh the piece of salmon looked. We also both loved the crab cake as you could bite into pieces of onion and seasoning
google avatar

Alfa C.

Yelp
We had a great time! Our server was Maria, she suggested we try some of the dishes and we weren't disappointed. Food was really good and the atmosphere was nice. If you are interested in fresh seafood we gladly recommend this place.
google avatar

Kathy Ann C.

Yelp
Food was great! Service was excellent. There was a live band playing as Jazz as well which was really cool. I have to say again the food was really good. Flavor!!!

Delfin E P.

Yelp
We went to The fish house today and the ambience was really good and my mom and dad had a dish. That got their attention and I had the Scallops with bacon and I really liked the smoked fish dip and the waitress. Had asked me if I wanted a side and I said coleslaw and it looked runny but it was good but what wasn't good. Was the over priced bill I mean it was easily over 100 bucks and there was an option for a 30% tip option. Well it's safe to say that we aren't going to this place ever again I saw on the menu that the Scallops where 19 bucks and they where more expensive on the bill
google avatar

Danny P.

Yelp
Anyone that knows me knows I don't really eat fish or at least most sea critters but this review is for my two friends. My friends ordered two dozen oyster plates which were on happy hour special to start off and I ordered a nice cold Stella. They really liked the oysters they said it was tasty even though it looked disgusting to me lol. Then they ordered lobster bisque and clam chowder which one friend said she liked the lobster bisque way better than the clam chowder. For the final entrees they ordered a grilled red snapper and a yellow tail which they said both were bomb! 6 beers later I tasted the nachos and fish dip lol. The service was great by the way, the waiter was friendly and funny.
google avatar

Erroll C.

Yelp
Had a full fried snapper with plantains and fish dip. It was great!!!! Definitely coming back. It was my sons first time trying fish and he loved it. He's been asking to go back. We did pick up, service was good. Everyone was friendly. The location had good ambiance
google avatar

Matt A.

Yelp
fish here is amazingThe fish here is amazing. My family and I have been looking for a place where they sell good quality seafood and we finally found it! This place also has live jazzy music some of the days of the week, and the service was phenomenal! Their ceviche is so good.
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
Miami should have more great fish restaurants but none come close to the fish house. Fresh-good service & ambiance add to an excellent experience.
google avatar

Daniela A.

Yelp
This is the perfect place for a Sunday lunch, or dinner date during the week. The menu has a lot of variety, the oysters are a must. Their white wine selection is good. The service is quick & friendly.
google avatar

Top R.

Yelp
The food is always great service is always great the best deal is to come for lunch. I love getting their pasta shrimp in pink sauce. And comes with a Caesar salad for like 15 bucks. Well worth it. The Caesar salad is super fresh even the croutons are fresh. Food is high quality.
google avatar

Roberto P.

Yelp
Amazing food, drinks and service. Never a disappointment. A mainstay in Kendall Miami.

paola ..

Yelp
This place is AMAZING ! The fish deep is to die for, and the Oysters and huge! Great service and the food is very fresh ! Oh and they have life music

Jaleesa C.

Yelp
I will revise my comment! The owner Angela really made me feel welcomed back. I always loved this place and will continue to return!

Ramon B.

Yelp
Always fresh! Amazing food and service! Frozen margaritas are the best and sneak up on you.
google avatar

Shana M.

Yelp
This is my favorite seafood restaurant in Miami, really authentic mom and pop vibes. The staff is always amazingly friendly and super knowledgeable about the menu. They have a back room where they have live music multiple times a week. I've been for the jazz night and it is so fun! An absolute recommend!! I've never had anything on the menu that I didn't like, but some of my favorites are: crab cakes, grilled shrimp, seafood rice, beer shrimp (appetizer), ok .... Everything!

Ezequiel A.

Yelp
This restaurant has become my favorite seafood place, excellent food, service and they have live music. Good food at the right price, first class ingredients
google avatar

Sharlee M.

Yelp
I can't say that I've been blown away by anything on the menu, but I also can't say that I've had anything bad either. The Fish House is a decent casual seafood restaurant. I love that I can go here for drinks and oysters with friends but not feel like I have to get all dolled up. The main reason I frequent this restaurant is for the happy hour oysters. I'm a little late writing this review, so I'm not sure of the price now, but the happy hour price for oysters was only $.50. My friend and I would literally eat two dozen each. The oysters are very fresh and about medium size. I never make reservations for this restaurant, I am usually able to walk in and get seated within minutes.
google avatar

Mara W.

Yelp
The food was really good!!! We had a sushi roll, coconut shrimp, bacon wrapped shrimp and grilled shrimp! All of it was delicious! I loved the plantain too. Our salads were even tasty. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the food and service were great!! I want some shrimp right now!!
