"Whether it’s fillets, whole fish, or shellfish a customer is seeking, Phil and Sonny can handle it. As is in most markets, fish here is sold fresh and uncooked to go. But there’s no fishy smell here. Fresh, fried fish is also available, and it’s seasoned and cooked perfectly: hot and moist inside, crispy and flavorful on the outside. There’s a small counter to enjoy it, but carryout is ideal." - Serena Maria Daniels

SerpAPI
Excellent place to shop for seafood and fish. Very short Sunday hours but I'm glad they were open. Very friendly and knowledgeable with fair prices. They also have oils spices and batter... everything you will need. Even fresh lemons...

I'm officially in love with this fish! I don't normally like fish but occasionally force myself to because it's so healthy. I've only lived in Dearborn for a few days and just happened by this place, so i stopped in, thinking i would find something mild to take home and grill. To my surprise they not only sell, fillets, whole fish and shellfish, but also prepared dinners! I was so happy because i didn't want my place to wreak of fish. Speaking of, the place was so clean! It didn't smell fishy at all! When i asked what had the least fishy flavor, the man cooking recommended the Lake Perch for a mild flavor and, to my astonishment, it was AMAZING!! It is by far the best fish I've ever tasted! The only thing I've found that comes close is in Israel on the Mediterranean Sea and i think this may have even been better! Local, clean, well-priced, nice sized portions, and absolutely delicious!! I will actually go treat myself to fish now instead of having to force feed it to myself. All this for $11!! You've got to try it!

Always a great experience at the Fish Market. Why get your house smelling like fried fish when you can have them prepare it to your liking. If you are looking for a specific fish they will more than likely carry it.

Aaron F.

SerpAPI
Family owned and operated. Good quality phish you bye they fry or chose something off the menu. If your on lunch break pull up a stool eat at the counter. If your looking for something specific and they don't have it they will get it.

Very clean , nice customer service , I tried them 2 weeks ago and I’m back again .

SerpAPI
First time customer. Had a terrible experience when buying fish there. Make sure you inspect the cut of meat they choose and wrap for you. The workers may be neglectful and give you a bad cut. I requested and bought one pound of 3 different types of fishes each: scottish sea trout, alaskan salmon, and ahi tuna. Trusted the workers that they chose a good cut for me. I brought the fish home and found the cut for the tuna to be discolored and rancid. I was super disappointed as I paid $25 for this cut.

Unfortunately my last visit the perch was loaded with bones, I'm there just about every week...sonny usually produces a very good brand of fish...but I was very disappointed 😞 😢 my last visit!

Yelp
I wanted to have options other than a grocery store for seafood. This is a family owned and operated business and I like supporting local so that's a bonus. First off, while this is a no frills establishment, the place is very clean and no "fish smell" which should always be the case if fish is kept properly. Good selection to choose from whether you are buying to cook yourself or having them do up a fish fry for you. We tried a lake perch and scallops dinner. The coating they use for their fish is very light and crunchy which I prefer. I had never had fried scallops and wasn't sure what to expect. They were delicious. I will definitely be shopping here for seafood again. Glad I tried this place based on previous positive reviews.

Yelp
love this place there food is off the hook sunny in everyone else is really nice. Great service ambience is really makes you feel like you're in a fishing boat., Are used to come here all the time as a kid I grew up with this place. I recommend anybody who wants old fashion fish market. They really do a good job. Fresh fish of everything is great.

Mo B.

Yelp
This outstanding fish market in Dearborn stands out as the finest. Their commitment to freshness is unparalleled, offering the option to pre-order or savor a delightful meal on-site. The added convenience of having your fish expertly cleaned makes it a top-notch experience.

Yelp
This is a gem in Dearborn. Delicious fresh fish and friendly service. Highly recommend!

Yelp
A wonderful treasure in Dearborn. I do not even live in Dearborn anymore but drive there to buy my fish. The fish is the freshest you will find in the area. There is always a huge selection of various types of fish. You can tell the owners take pride in their store and what they sell. I've bee shopping here for over ten years and have never had a bad piece of seafood. The owner is very nice and helpful. They also sell fish dinners which a lot of customers come in for Try them. You will not be disappointed. Skip the big chain stores; try this place out.

Tina M.

Yelp
We have been coming here for as long as I can remember they are a wonderful family started with father and now deal with son and he was a just as committed and wonderful as his father!

DJuan L.

Yelp
It doesn't get much better than this! They have a large variety of fresh fish that you can either take home and cook yourself, or have them cook it for you. Deep frying is their only cooking method, so if you're looking for something healthy you may want to cook it yourself. The fish here is really fresh and it comes out in the taste. Everything is cooked to order, but it didn't take long for me to get my food. I ordered fried oysters and lake perch, which were both seasoned well. It was my 1st time having lake perch so I didn't know what to expect...but I was very pleased. They oysters were really good as well. There isn't a lot of sitting room here, but there are a few seats if you want to eat in. They also sell seasonings and sauces in addition to fresh seafood. I'm not sure if this is a family-owned establishment, but that's the feel that I got from it. The service was good and the food was even better. I'll definitely be back if I'm in the area.

Hussein M.

Yelp
I decided to try this place after reading the reviews and to support a family-oriented small business. Let me tell you -- the moment I walked in, the staff conversed with me as if they knew me for 10+ years! They made me feel right at home! I've gone here five times so far during my lunch break and they have NEVER disappointed -- their fried cod dinner was off the chain Highly recommended

Natalie T.

Yelp
The best and ONLY place you should be getting seafood in metro Detroit. Places like this are rare these days. Thank you for being so kind .

Yelp
My roommate kept coming home with meals from the Fish Market for lunch, and it always smelled SO good that eventually I had to check it out for myself. I will definitely be a repeat customer! The store is clean and inviting and really feels like a mom and pop place. I got the Lake Perch meal on the recommendation of the man working the counter (by the way, staff was very helpful and got my order done quickly)! You can see them go to put your fish in the fryer as you wait, so you know you're getting fresh food, not something that's been sitting around. The fish is seasoned well, the batter is not too thick, and the overall taste is excellent. Truly melts in your mouth. Add a little lemon or tartar sauce if you like (I do!), but the fish stands on its own. The meals also come with a LARGE amount of fries, cole slaw, and a slice of bread - prices vary depending on the fish, but the Lake Perch meal was $10.99 which I thought was a great price. They also have a big selection of fish behind the glass that you can buy and cook at home. I'm no expert, but everything looked super fresh to me. My friend bought some whitefish and baked it for lunch today, and it looks incredible. I want to head back over sometime soon to pick up some salmon or trout to bake. Finally, they even have a selection of hot sauces, seasonings, and spices that you can use to cook your own fish if you need some ideas! Awesome place that is definitely worth a visit (or three).

Yelp
What can I say about the Fish Market. Have been a recurring customer three years in a row and never have bought my sea food from anywhere else. Sunny & Phil, are the best Father/Son duo you will ever meet. Phil loves to smile, joke, and fry (no one can fry like Phil). While Sonny is more business oriented. They perfectly balance each other out. The place is absolutely immaculate. You will not understand the level of cleanliness until you visit this fish market your self. I am OCD when it come to cleaning, they top my OCD. Everyone n my family knows I make the beast seafood dinners and they provide the main ingredient, ALWAYS FRESH SEAFOOD. Additionally, they expanded their refrigeration to display more types of fish. Love the new variety of sea food products. The duo live on the legacy left behind by their mother/wife who has passed away in 2012. She was known to be the one to always share her loaf of bread and fish. #Fried Shrimp #Fresh Fish #Cod Fried Dinner #Catfish #Fillets For more of my food endeavors follow my IG : @fulfillicious

Yelp
These guys fry some great fish here. I ordered the walleye, everything is fresh and tasty. I highly recommend this place. I've been here a few times and each time I ordered something different. All was good !!! Plus the old guy knew Jake Lamotta and Rocky Marciano! Thats worth getting a fish sandwich in it self! Love it !

Yelp
This is a cumulative review; I don't live in Michigan, but in Illinois. Since a friend (who lived two blocks from there) told me about this place 14 to 18 years ago, I've ALWAYS made sure I find my way to Dearborn at least once. (Usually twice, because there's killer Middle Eastern food in the city, also!) I buy the deep fried fish by the pound: my "default setting" is one pound each of fried lake perch, and walleye. ANY year that I get to this place, no matter where else I've eaten during all other parts of the year, my meal there is INVARIABLY MY VERY BEST MEAL OF THE YEAR. (Huron Fish in Saginaw, if it's still there and hasn't changed, comes darned close...) If Phil reads this, I'm gonna bet that he remember exactly who I am, though it's close to two and a half years since I've been in Michigan, lol. This stuff is melt-in-your-mouth, manna from the gods. Unfortunately I can't do more than 5 stars (and if that option existed, I wouldn't be the only one). Can I give it an HONORARY Michelin THREE STARS? Yeah, but I guess that doesn't count... EPIC PASS!

Yelp
I was in the area and had read the great reviews about The Fish Market. I ordered the orange roughy dinner with fries, coleslaw, and bread. There were two large pieces of the fish, and it was good and cooked well. This ranks as one of the best fish markets where I've ordered a cooked meal.

Marc D.

Yelp
Had a taste for some fish and chips for lunch today. Made my way over here to a friendly bunch of people in Dearborn that know what they're doing when it comes to seafood! I got a Orange Roughy dinner and added some shrimp along for the voyage, which was all quite tasty. Most fish places I don't end up eating the included cole slaw, but I was tipping the container into my mouth today (it was a bit on the sweet side but that didn't stop me). The included piece of bread seemed to be a hybrid white / Italian mixture, which reminded me of something served in higher end restaurants, looking around for some butter to spread on it. The fries were seasoned and I didn't end up even adding any pepper to them as I normally do. Although this was my first time here, I'll definitely be returning! One of the few places around that actually serves a good fish meal around the area.

Yelp
I have never had such good orange roughy in my life. The food here is fresh. The orange roughy was so fluffy and delicious. My husband had thr shrimp and said it's some of the best he's ever had.

Greg W.

Yelp
This place has been on my radar for quite some time. However; it's all the way over on the other side of town for me so I was not in a huge hurry to come over to the east side and give it a try. That was a mistake. The moment I walked in, I was treated with respect and kindness. The store was bright and clean and the fish on ice looked amazing. I asked for the cod dinner and waited for it to get done. When I got home, I opened the container and found a very fair amount of fish and fires for the price (I paid around $10.00). But, here's the thing......this cod was the freshest and most amazing cod I've ever had. Fried, but not greasy at all (which means they keep fresh grease in the fryer). The fries had some kind of seasoning on them (something like Old Bay perhaps?) but not overly salty, as I experience in most places. The slice of bread included with my dinner took me right back to my mom's kitchen when I was a kid. I cant believe I waited this long to visit this place. They will see me again, and soon! Enjoy!

Kellie C.

Yelp
I judge a fish market straight off by the scents once you walk in the door. The fish market is approved, smells just fine and welcoming. They divide their menu by lake and ocean fish. I ordered the red snapper dinner which was fantastic. Beer battered and crisp, the fillets were meaty and flavorful. They have malt for your fries which are sprinkled with some seasoned salt. Also, they get a nod for stocking real spices about 15 or so, along with the slap your mama variety. That's helpful for buying raw seafood then cooking at home, you only need one stop to prepare dinner. The staff was friendly and I was invited to come back soon. You get what you ask for!

Yelp
Three trips to The Fish Market in Dearborn, and three extremely wonderful experiences. I'm not an amazing chef, but I've made sea scallops at home, a sea fish I don't quite remember, and now catfish and fresh oysters. Who has fresh, never-frozen oysters on demand in Wayne County? This place does. I found a recipe on the Internet for char-broiled oysters in the same vein as Drago's in New Orleans. I happened upon one of the best home-cooked meals I've had in years, and I like to think of myself as a decent cook. I credit the raw ingredients provided by this place with the quality of these meals. As most other commenters have mentioned, this place doesn't smell fishy. It is immaculately clean, with delightful counter staff and the best fresh seafood selection I've seen outside of Eastern Market. Beware: they stop cooking food to go at 5pm Monday through Thursday, so if you want a to-go order, make it early. But their raw fish is fresher than you could possibly hope for this far from the coasts, and the cooked dinners to go are delightful. I've heard their french fries are mediocre, but that would never be a reason to visit this place in my book. If you adore seafood as I do and you live in the Dearborn area and don't give this place a try, you are doing yourself a great disservice. I can't possibly think of anything they could do to improve this game they're playing, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yelp
AMAZING! So I've been vegan for awhile now but this past Friday I had a craving for some fried fish ... weird right! Anywho I kept fighting it but then I found this place and I decided to GO FOR IT! Man one of the best food decisions! I got the lake perch and it was so flavorful, so flaky YUM YUM. It was so good, my husband who is also vegan and talked about me for going to get this, are half of my meal. We will be back. Guess I'm 95% Vegan now

John S.

Yelp
This place used to be Five Star when Phil ran it. I went there recently and the son asks how he can help me. I tell him I'm looking for something to pan fry for dinner. He lifts a halibut he's cleaning and says this would be perfect. I tell him I'll take 1 lb cut into 2 fillets. He mentions its $18.99 per lb and asks if that's ok. I say sure. He cuts my fillets, weighs and bags them and rings me up. $25.00 exactly. I figure he cut them a little thick, no big deal. When i went to prepare them later that evening i notice the ticket generated by the scale read 1.00 lb and price $25.00 per lb. What are the odds he cut two fillets to total exactly 1.00 lb? The scale and the prices are arbitrary. No thank you.

Jim L.

Yelp
Just tried this place for the first time with a coworker and wow! The food is outstanding, I had shrimp and scallops dinner and it was absolutely amazing. Definitely coming back for more.

Karly G.

Yelp
Best fish in all of Michigan- whether you buy it raw to cook yourself or you order one of their delicious prepared meals. Sonny and Phil have been in the business for over thirty years and that's no accident. They know quality and they treat customers like family. If you haven't gone already, GO NOW! Love this place.

Kelly P.

Yelp
Great small business! They are fully stocked with lots of variety and are very helpful and knowledgeable!

Armand A.

Yelp
Best seafood market in Detroit metro area. Always have a great selection that you won't find anywhere else and always fresh. Owner very helpful and knowledgeable.

James A.

Yelp
This place was great I had catfish dinner. They had it cooked in about 5 mins. I ate there at the host was so nice she rang a bell to let everyone know it was my first time there. Next time I'm in town I will definitely drop by. They even sell the seasons they use for the fish and fries.

Robert W.

Yelp
I could go on and on about how good their dinners are. But what makes this place is the people who own it. It's a father and son team and they're the nicest people you'll ever meet. They're down to earth, old school, hard working Italian people that if you have 1 conversation with them you feel like you've known them forever!

Spiratus T.

Yelp
Great fried shrimp and other seafood goodies. The best kept secret in Dearborn.

Julie T.

Yelp
The food was excellent. A one stop shop for all of your seafood needs, if I wouldn't have looked this gem up I would have never found it. Home cooking in a store at its finest.

Apryl S.

Yelp
The owners here are extremely nice and accommodating. I come here for the fried fish and shirmp with chips. you buy and they cook. the fish and shrimp is really fresh and tasty. Even the fries are good. the only downside is they stop frying at 5pm, but you cab order it ahead of time and pick it up before 6pm. i wish they extended the hours though!

Annette J.

Yelp
I totally agree with all the other reviewers who say this place is great. Because it IS. We do traditional Polish Christmas Eve (no red meat, just seafood and other vegetarian options) and we always get our fish here. The service is fantastic. They really know their fruits of the sea and can give you a wonderful recommendation if you're not sure what to get. They'll tell you how to prepare it, give you breading recommendations, the full nine. The prices aren't super SUPER cheap but you're paying for quality. It's also cheaper than some of the other fish places I've been to in the Metro-Detroit area so it's not crazy unreasonable. I totally agree with M.Y. who pointed out the absolute lack of fishy smell when you walk in--it's just a clean, fresh place with tasty eats. They'll even cook it for you if you want a lunch or dinner without all the hassle. Although there isn't really any seating so you'll need to take it with you. If you're one of those folks who is concerned about sustainable seafood this place doesn't really subscribe to that so just a heads up. I'm sure you'll find some eco-friendly eats but you'll also find some Chilean Sea Bass mixed in. My favorite fish there is the African Perch which I can't really find any info on re:sustainability so I'm going to go ahead and believe that it's totally cool because it's so very tasty. ;) Whether you're a fish novice or someone who knows their stuff I'm sure you're going to find something new to love here.

Ca W.

Yelp
Always tasty dinners prepared quickly. Friendly staff. Also can buy fresh seafood to cook yourself. Not much else to add except go get some fish!

Chong Mi L.

Yelp
Learned about this market through a friend who would drive over 30 mins for the fish. I completely understand why. The fish is always so fresh and delicious. Always a great selection available at great prices. (dry scallops anyone?!) We have been patrons for over a year and are always treated warmly. These people are not just fishmongers, they are friends. My almost 3 yr old daughter always asks to eat in the "fish market" and say hello to her pal Sonny!

Xuong D.

Yelp
Stopped by because i was in the mood for fish fry and was honestly surprised. This place is good. The fish is freshly fried and served piping hot. It's a very straightforward no bells or whistles kind of spot. They sell fresh fish and they fry it for you if you want. Thats it. I got the lake perch as reccommended by the nice guy behind the counter and I was very satisfied with the portion for the price.

Karen T.

Yelp
Local shopping and eating is so needed to support small business. Chain restaurants can't come close to the fresh fish at The Fish Market Inc, Dearborn Mi. We chose fresh red snapper to be fried for our takeout. What a good choice! The fish was so flaky and not at all greasy! The business had only fresh smells, which is a very positive thing for a seafood market. They sell spices and condiments along with shrimp, crab, oysters, salmon, and so many other beautiful fish. Go there!! Is next door to the best Italian market around - Alcamos on Schaefer Rd.

Cheko A.

Yelp
I went with my sister for red snappers and they have a lot!! So, we recommend the place, the fishes are very fresh, next time try the oyster and shrimp!!

Deena B.

Yelp
Walked in at 530p, after driving 15 miles and was told by the manager they stop cooking at 5p. The closing time states 6p, with no mention of an earlier stopping time. I was handed a menu and told to call ahead next time. This was my first time coming here and after this Experience, I highly doubt that I'll be back. It literally left a bad taste in my mouth

Ryan ..

Yelp
Amazing fresh fish ocean and freshwater (I prefer ocean) and also very cheap prices compared to others. I love how they cook it for you as well not much for seating and I'm not sure anyone would want to sit there and eat since it's a fish market and it smells like it but that's normal! Also took some shrimp home and they were phenomenal would come here again

Nigel M.

Yelp
Just arrived in Detroit from California, hungry after an all-day flight. One of our party wanted fish so here we are.... Excellent choice, fresh delicious fish, great choice and a friendly down-to-earth eating experience. I highly recommend it!

Jeffrey C.

Yelp
Best fish market in South Eastern Michigan. All fish carefully iced and fresh. Try the fried calamari outstanding. Or take home some fresh Salmon you won't be disappointed. The ambiance is neat as the Joint started by a Sicilian boxer named Phil. His son is running the joint now. Worth the trip.

Rola S.

Yelp
Good food but the service was very slow. They need to move faster then keep talking to each other and to a customer that's their friend.

Charisse W.

Yelp
I just can't say enough about the quality here. Everytime we visit we get seafood / fish to prepare at home - that is until this weekend. We got a pound of shrimp and some lake perch prepared and it was the absolute best fried shrimp I have ever eaten, ever! The fries are also very good, as is the bread and coleslaw. WOW...the price is also right! The breading is out of this world.

A. H.

Yelp
SF Bay Yelper in town for the Eminem show. Popped through Dearborn en route back to the airport thinking I'd end up having Middle Eastern. Boy am I glad I looked in here first. Located in a partially occupied multi tenant building next to City Hall, The Fish Market is really just that: a fish market. A well kept one too. Doesn't smell fishy (great sign of quality), and decor is Italian (owner's mom was an Italian fishmonger) and boxer stuff (owner's previous career. There is also a fryer and the friendly owner uses it very well. Results are crispy and light on the outside and juicy steamed goodness on the inside. I had the Lake Perch and my pardner the Cod. Fries, Cole slaw, and white bread accompany -- also good. Road warriors you now have an awesome stopover to the airport...

Claudia C.

Yelp
I specifically asked for a sea bass and the man and the lady said it is a stripped sea bass. they cleaned and fried it for me. when I tested it, it was freshwater striped bass. Now, I know my fish, my whole family loves fish and I know the difference between sea bass and freshwater bass. this bass has more earthy flavor and texture is less firmer than the sea bass from the sea. if they had just told me the truth I would have just ordered something else.

Nkenge G.

Yelp
Their seafood is fresh, piping hot, delicious and a good value. The service was nice too. The fries are average. But there is no combo meal. Example, I ordered half shrimp and half clams and it ended up costing $15! I'll definitely return but only to get the fish ($7.99) or shrimp ($9.99). No more combos for me!

Hank's Dad R.

Yelp
I hate to give them just four stars, but I have this thing against giving anyone five based on just one visit! I tried just the cod fried dinner, but wow was it good! The box was suprisingly heavy and I will probably regret later eating so much, but it was great going down. The fish has a light batter to it, and wasn't the least bit over done. The fries were wonderfully seasoned. The cole slaw is morseo pickled cabbage than cole slaw, but was good for pickled cabbage (which I normally hate). I can see this being a weekly thing for me. The only bad point was that there was a package of hot sauce in the box, me not noticing this until I had it all over my fries thinking it was ketchup. My wife recently said how we needed to find a fish market to try some recipes she's found, so this is just the place for that too, having a nice variety of fish and shell fish. Plus this an old fashioned family run business in a downtown, exactly the kind of place we need to support. I will be back often!

Diana R.

Yelp
After receiving bad seafood from the counter, twice....never again. As soon as I opened the bag when I got home, the bad smell hit me. Not the fresh, ocean smell you would expect. I returned it and it was replaced. A few weeks later, went back to try again, same problem. Spoiled fish. I had ordered various dinners there in the past, though...and all were very good. I would bypass the fish at the counter and try something like sizzlefish.com instead.

Wendy C.

Yelp
Superior quality and freshness, good selection (if they don't have it, they can order it for you), and reasonable prices. Service is very good, the staffs know their fish. It's a good place to pick up a fish-n-chips meal or any fried seafood-n-chips meal. There are no seating inside the store, but there is a picnic table just around the corner of the building near the parking lot. I've seen people eating lunch there on a nice warm day. A dinner plate includes your seafood of choice, plus fries, coleslaw and bread. You can also buy anything by weight and have them fry for you. A simple batter is used, with a dash of Old Bay seasoning. Freshness is key.

Michael A.

Yelp
I so wanted to love this place! Fresh fried seafood straight from a market - sounds great. Unfortunately, the expectation was not met. I had the fried oysters and was greatly disappointed. The oysters were not meaty at all and they were WAY over powered by the breading. The fried shrimp my wife got were much better. I agree with the others that say the fries are just average and the cole slaw, while tasty, seemed liked they got it from the same place as KFC. Another downside was that the only table they have, outside, was taken by a homeless gentleman. On the plus side, the couple (?) behind the counter were very nice.
