Google
It is an interesting little restaurant inside a fish shop. Right off highway 61. We ordered from the counter and found a spot out on the patio facing Lake Superior. Ok view looking over a couple businesses. Our food was brought out promptly to us. We shared an order of fish and chips and a basket of fried clams. Both were pretty good.

Google
These were the best fish n chips I've ever had in my life. I'm not joking. And I've had a lot of fish n chips. The fish was cooked to perfection, as were the fries. Excellent service, very cute joint with a great atmosphere. We picked up some smoked salmon on our way out, it was absolutely excellent. My only complaint is they're hundreds of miles away from my home!

Google
Fish fry at a small lakeside town always hits, and this fish was really good. They had a few options for fish at a decent price (16-18), and the fries were seasoned really good. The fish melts in your mouth and is honestly so good, wasn’t disappointed at all. Service was quick and it was nice to eat outside.

Google
Fairly basic food but was good. I don’t eat fish so maybe I’m a bit biased. The cheese curds were very good. You order at the register and then sit down or whatever. Wasn’t what I was expecting I guess but cool place.

Google
Stopped by for a quick bite and everything hit the spot! • Fish & Chips – crispy, flaky and cooked just right. • Shrimp & Chips – crunchy, flavorful and satisfying. • Cheese Curds – golden, melty and yummy. Nothing fancy, just good comfort food done right. Great spot if you’re in the mood for classic fried favorites! 👌✨

Google
The quintessential place for lake fare! I think it’s rare that the local celebrity food establishment ever exceeds expectations, but the Fisherman’s Daughter certainly does. With an exceptional fish deli loaded with locally caught lake food, fresh or smoked, to pair with the best fish baskets on Superior’s north shore, the Fisherman’s Daughter is the ultimate lake front culinary establishment. For their famous fish and chips, the fish was perfectly fried (lightly breaded and not heavy) and was served with crisp and fluffy fries and a perfectly tangy tartar sauce. My only regret is not coming here sooner. Unbeatable.

Google
Had chicken and chips and shrimp and chips, each order was a little over $16. The amount of food was ample, 4 moist chicken strips and about 8 shrimp. The portion of fries was ample. The oil the food was fried in tasted old and the old grease flavor overwhelmed the flavor of the fries and meat and lingered in my mouth well after the meal was over The three forkfuls of coleslaw we each received in tiny plastic cups with lids had a taste unlike any other coleslaw I've ever had. It's hard to describe but it was not appetizing and I did not eat it. When we went to sit down we found the inside long counter dirty nearly end to end and outside four of the five available outdoor tables on the deck were dirty with grease and pieces of food, with some tables having food and used silverware underneath. The two people working the came out three times while we are to grab empty baskets and did not look at the tables nor clean a single table so when we left all the tables had been used except one and none of them had been cleaned. The place was not busy and there was no wait and the cleanliness of the dining area left a lot to be desired and distracted from enjoying the food by having to go table to table to find somewhere that didn't have the remnants of someone else's meal. Overall not impressed with the experience and really put off with the lack of concern for sanitation.

Google
The food here is incredible. We ordered fish tacos, fish and chips and maple bacon cheese curds. Quick service lovely people. It’s a win

Yelp
We wish we had come here first. It was wonderful the fish (walleye) was great, and fresh. we had tried others in the area, and was good, but not nearly as good as Fisherman's Daughter. When we come back to the area, we will definitely come back.

Yelp
What an amazing stop. Brought the kids for lunch. Walk up to order. Find a place to sit. And wait quickly for your food to arrive! Everything was fresh and amazing! With a view worth waiting for.

Yelp
Get the chowder! We also had the fishnchips as well as the fish tacos with the malt vinegar!

Yelp
A must stop when in Grand Marais. We love their smoked salmon chowder. This time we had the shrimp & fries and Smelt & Fish. The smelt is only during a 3-4 week period so we had to try. They were like popcorn fish fried with a light breading. The fries here are so good. Order & pay at the counter and get a number for your table. Outdoor patio seating and a few tables indoors. They have a cold case that sells salads, smoked salmon wraps, etc. food here is fresh and good. Fish is caught right out back in their boat.

Yelp
Went in late May after Memorial Day weekend. Fantastic fish & chips and sitting on the back deck watching the harbor! Grab a salad to round it out.
google avatar

Katie A.

Yelp
Really popular place nice, outdoor seating. Good fried fish baskets with your choice of herring, whitefish, or walleye. You ordered at the counter and they brought you your food. It came pretty quickly. I love good walleye, but this was just So so. We tried the different varieties of fish, and it all just tasted like generic fried fish.
google avatar

Joi L.

Yelp
This was our first stop in Grand Marais on my bday trip and it was definitely a solid place to start off with. I had the fish of the day which was the herring, my girlfriend ordered the shrimp and chips and we split some crab fries. I didn't know what to expect with the crab fries but they were so good! Food was crispy and delicious, service was quick and the lake views from the window were stunning. Unfortunately it was too chilly to sit outside, but we still were able to get the full experience dining indoors.
google avatar

Yelp
This was my second time eating here and it is definitely now a staple of northern Minnesota for me. I love that all of the fish is locally caught. Their fish and chips are really good, especially with the sauce that comes with it. My boyfriend got their fish tacos which were also delicious. The last time we ate here we also tried their crab fries, it really surprised me how fresh they were. It's so relaxing eating on the balcony and enjoying the weather and cool breeze.

Yelp
Stop here for quick snack before heading back down to Duluth. Order: Smoke salmon chowder 1lb of smoke lake trout A bottle of pop Quick review: Ambience very nice small cafe deli smoke house type. Pleasant service. Another great view for the lake side view. Can't get better here in Grand Marais then sunshine in the middle of snowless winter this year! Food: Smoke salmon chowder: Some of the best chowder I have. The Smokiness and salty flavor of the salmon permeates throughout the cubes of potatoes, onions, dill and other spices. It was good I should've bought some more to go. It came with mini crackers- nice and simple broth- not too thick or thin just how i like it. Smoke lake trout: We'll smoke and nicely seasoned with salt. Perfect for a salad, cabbage wrapped, or in egg omelette. Very well done smoke fish - highly recommend to grab some. Bottle of pop: nice grape pop with great artificial taste. Can't complain it's pop! So this review was a quick Drop by- next time will order more food and do another review. Excited to go back with the sample I have already.

Yelp
Highly highly highly recommend! Their fish and chips are to die for! You can tell it's fresh, and so flavorful. Literally melts in your mouth but be careful cause it will be HOT. May take a couple minutes cause they bring it out as soon as it's off the fryer. The fries were also surprisingly tasty, you would think with the dumping you get with your fish it won't be that great and it's just a basket filler but it is GOOOOD. Loved it and went twice on our short weekend trip. We also bought some smoked fish from the case and had that as a late night snack since everything closes so dang early up north and it ended up being perfect with some crackers!

Yelp
Get the Walleye! Great fried fish. We stopped in here for lunch and had a super meal. It was peak summer season and they were managing it very well -almost no waiting, plenty of seating, and great food. Two in our party ordered fish tacos, and the other two ordered fish baskets. I was persuaded to try the herring and found it to be good... but not as good as the walleye! I found the herring to be a little dry whereas the walleye was moist, flaky, and flavorful! In addition to the food, the business had a little souvenir shop but it was clearly just a sidelight. They were a little short on restrooms, but at least they had one. The servers were very attentive and efficient. And the ambience was bright, clean, and very lake house. Highly recommend it.

Yelp
OMG the clam strips! And the smoked fish options! And the beverage options! And the wonderful staff. We pretty much make a pilgrimage here every time we're on the North Shore. (We would do this even if they didn't have a special service window for customers who stop by with their dogs. Yes, our dogs adore the clam strips too.)

Yelp
As you walk up, you know that you've stumbled across something truly special. Fisherman's Daughter is a one of a kind fisherman's wharf home that is right on the water. It is bright red, charming, and rustic! You feel as if you're walking inside a fisherman's home. Their goal is to bring the shore in the door. The food was all incredible and made to order. The fish is fresh caught daily. So, there's always a variety to choose from. All in all, you can't go wrong ordering anything! Everyone was very sweet, knowledgeable, and happy to help in any way. They had plenty of seating inside, outside, and on the water in the back. I love the attention to detail. If you haven't tried this place, put it on the list to try! They also have a store that sells local artwork and custom tee-shirts. Which, I really enjoyed! I loved everything about it and I'll definitely be back! Walleye Fish & Chips/ White Fish & Chips- These Fish and chips are fresh caught daily and made to order. Which is one of the many attributes that contributes to making this dish so perfect! It is crispy and crunchy on the outside and flakey, light, and rich on the inside! The Walleye is flakier, a little leaner, and not as fishy as the White fish. But, other than that they are on par! The beer battered french fries are crispy, crunchy, and light on the outside. While being creamy on the inside. Which is the recipe for pure perfection! The homemade coleslaw is crisp, crunchy, and refreshing! It adds that element of freshness and lightness that is much needed. The lemon is clean and fresh! It cleanses the pallet with a bright acidic finish! It creates the perfectly well rounded dish! Smoked Salmon Chowder- this chowder is smoky, rich, and creamy. I love how you find flakes of fish all throughout the dish. It has many unique layers of flavors. Every bite brings forward a new element of surprise. Your pallet will be left in a savory sensational state after just one taste. This dish is truly a one of a kind incredible work of art! You must try it!

Yelp
The best fried calms I have ever had! The smoked salmon, omg to die for! They are very generous with the portions, fun shopping in the restaurant. I like being able to sit lake side and enjoy a meal. There is usually a long line (at least when I have gone) but they are very speedy! Lots of picnic, or on the go items. Fun choices!
google avatar

Yelp
The smoked salmon chowder was one of the best chowders I've ever had, and I grew up around Boston. The fresh whitefish & chips were expertly fried and addictive, with several seasonings including tartar sauce, malt vinegar, and a peppery mustard sauce. The coleslaw tasted so fresh I think they made it after I ordered. They have a wide variety of drinks and other food items, including coffee, beer, salads & sandwiches. The service was quick, despite being busy, and the simple seating is clean & casual, self-serve utensils, with a patio when the weather is nice. 5 stars, no doubts.

Yelp
Yum, what a delicious little spot in Grand Marais! I had been meaning to check this place out for a while, and so glad I did on a recent trip. This is a quaint little spot with fast casual food ordered at the front stand. They offer a variety of seafood related dishes, and also have a refrigerated area for to-go items and drinks. They also have a case of smoked salmon that was soooo tempting. I ordered salmon chowder and crab fries at the front and then grabbed a spot out on the porch - seating options inside and out! A few minutes later, my order was brought out to me. SALMON CHOWDER: This is a must-get! Wow. So hearty and delicious - perfect flavors, and not skimpy on the salmon and other add-ins. I'd get the larger one next time! CRAB FRIES: What a genius idea! The crab meat was so fresh and delicious, and I loved the sauce they drizzled the fries with. My only complaint would be that I would have loved even more sauce (and crab meat, of course!). I had quite a few "dry" fries at the bottom of the bowl. They've got some fun stuff for sale around the space as well, like books and goods related to the North Shore. This is a must-stop while you're in Grand Marais!

Yelp
These cheese curds changed my life and haunt my dreams. They are THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD - and they only haunt my dreams because I live 1,800 miles away and cannot grab some whenever I want! The staff was so kind and the vibe is supremely cozy. I highly recommend walking out back along the docks after, vibes and food are 5/5!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a very cute little market with counter service. Nice variety of beverages, including THC. The food was excellent. The clam strips reminded me of ones I used to get on the East Coast!

Yelp
Stopped in on a Saturday night around 7 for a dinner after exploring the surrounding area. The location is easy to spot and has plenty of street parking nearby. You shouldn't have to walk more than half a block. The building, patio, outback, and seats in front, were somewhat filled, but still easy to find a spot after ordering our food. The inside of the store is a mix of both a food counter and market. They have a variety of fresh and smoked fish that you can buy along with a few gift items scattered around the store. The hardest thing was choosing what to get since everything on the menu and in the cases looked so good. We opted for an order of fish and chips and upgraded to walleye and a side of clam strips. We heard from multiple other restaurant goers, after we ordered unfortunately, that the salmon chowder was a must get. Both of our items were perfectly done. Sometimes with fried seafood, it can be overly greasy but that was not the case here. The clams were just the right of crunchiness, and the sauce that accompany them was delicious. The walleye was perfectly battered with a cornmeal and included fries that were just the right amount of crispness. Eating on the back patio overlooking the lake just made the experience that much better! This is an absolute must return to the spot when we head that way again. The salmon chowder and the smoked salmon "candy" are definitely on my must gets for next trip.
google avatar

Steph H.

Yelp
Herring tacos with a view of Lake Superior? Yes please! Who knew? The herring is fresh out of the lake and prepared with a lighter cornmeal breading, served with slaw, cilantro and choice hot sauce if you dare!
google avatar

Mark E.

Yelp
Had the fish tacos. They were ok at best. Small pieces of fish, bland tortillas. Smoked fish chowder was excellent however. I miss the fish sandwiches.
google avatar

Jay K.

Yelp
We ordered the crab fries, walleye fish and chips, as well as the white fish tacos! The service was friendly and quick. Everything came out timely and the food tasted really fresh! The patio outside faces the lake and the weather was beautiful all weekend! Would recommend this place to anyone that comes into town!
google avatar

Sara Z.

Yelp
The food was SO good! Salmon chowder... I'd drive all the way back tomorrow for it. The fried whitefish was so fresh. Delicious. Good clam strips too. The servers were super nice, too. Oh, outstanding cheese curds, can't forget that.

Meara K.

Yelp
We stopped here for dinner. Very good! Gluten free fish was super great, however has a shared fryer so celiac's beware. We had whitefish & tots. Great atmosphere with views of the lake.
google avatar

Marie H.

Yelp
Great little spot to stop for lunch in Grand Marais! The back patio has a nice view of the harbor. You order your food at the counter and it came out pretty quickly, about 5 minutes. I ordered the clam strips and fries. It was a little bready especially when eating it with fries - in hindsight I wish I got a cup of chowder on the side instead but still pretty good overall. I also tried my husband's fried walleye, which was super fresh and tasty. The shop also has some nice specialty items, which was fun to browse through. On the way out, I also got 1/2 lb of smoked steelhead trout. It was really nicely smoked and lasted for over a week after I got back home!
google avatar

Chris J.

Yelp
Stop in here to get some fish. Had the Walleye Tacos and a local beer. Sat out side facing the water and it was great setting. Good counter service.
google avatar

Marc L.

Yelp
From California we get various versions of fish and chips. Well leave it to The Fisherman's Daughter to absolutely wow us. The Walleye chips were phenomenal. The staff was super friendly. The scone was absolutely delish. The clam strips were a bit over done. Cocktail sauce and the tartar sauce very yummy. Definitely a good stop while touring the north shore.
google avatar

Claire L.

Yelp
Delicious roasted red pepper gouda soup and would recommend over the salmon chowder. Fish is breaded not battered in little nuggets. Still very good. Nothing to write home on on the cheese curds. Coleslaw is on the bitter side. Adequate seating area when the Angry trout wait is 30mins+

Carolyn L.

Yelp
Fresh fried fish and chips- the required lakeshore meal on the greatest of lakes!! Score a seat on their outside deck on a sunny day and soak up the atmosphere.

Claudia H.

Yelp
Nice fresh fish served hot and delicious with great counter service and wonderful patio area to enjoy the fantastic lake as you eat and visit. I also purchased some smoked lake trout to enjoy at home and it's amazing, really the best I've ever had.
google avatar

Ellie H.

Yelp
I got the soup of the day and it is amazing! The service is very good! You also get a view of the lake. All the food looks amazing!
google avatar

Joseph H.

Yelp
I should've ordered the walleye or probably the herring fish and chips. I ordered the cod and it was just ok. The fish in fish and chips, in my opinion, should have a light, delicate breading so as to allow the flavor of the fish to come through. The breading used on the cod was definitely not light and delicate. Very crunchy. The cod chunks were pretty small, more like bites than what you'd expect from traditional (?) fish and chips. So you get lots of breading on each bite. Nothing special about the fries and they did have malt vinegar to sprinkle on them. The fish bites and fries were good, just not great or what I was expecting when I ordered fish and chips.
google avatar

Jacqueline T.

Yelp
We were driving up the North Shore today. I found this place on Yelp and thought it would be a good place to stop for lunch. Bonus: if you check in on Yelp, you get a free cup of soup! We got two fish baskets. One with Superior Whitefish and battered fries and one with Superior Herring and cheese curds. For our soups we got the lobster bisque and the smoked trout chowder. I liked both of the fish baskets. I might have preferred the Herring slightly, but they tasted quite similar. The fries were great as were there cheese curds. Generous portions on the sides as well. Both of the soups were pretty good. I think I had a slight preference for the lobster bisque. This is a great stop for some fresh fish and chips!
google avatar

Yakun L.

Yelp
Gem in north shore! Fried fish and chips are soooo good!!! Food is fast and staff are friendly
google avatar

Robert M.

Yelp
Great view of the harbor! Fantastic food portions, friendly staff, cute little shop, incredibly tasty food! I had the Herring. Wow! Fantastic!!!! My daughters had the chicken tenders. Really? Chicken tenders instead of fish! What do you expect from teenagers? Anyway, I loved the cute little sit-down little restaurant. Must visit!!!!
google avatar

Kelli A.

Yelp
Absolutely the best fish and chips of the many we've had over the past two weeks in the area. The walleye is now my go-to favorite.
google avatar

Yvette M.

Yelp
Casual fish market with indoor/outdoor seating. Order at the counter and seat yourself. If you're looking for a quick bite to eat, this is the place. Ordered the fish basket with herring and Cole slaw. We only wanted to order locally caught fish. Along with the herring we ordered the white fish. The fish was fresh and a great choice. Smoked fish is also available and it appears they offer samples. Although the view of the water is limited and not the best, we enjoyed sitting outside.

jennifer w.

Yelp
Adorable place and location. Great vibe. We had a big group who all got fish n chips. I personally found the fish bland but it had a nice thin crust and was fresh. Fries were super fresh and yummy. We also shared salmon chowder (amazing) and super yummy cheese curds. They had a great selection of drinks. Awesome view! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Lauren R.

Yelp
The thing I liked most about the Fisherman's Daughter is the variety of foods they offer- you can get either fish and chips or a tasty sandwich to go! While the fish and chips were good (with my preference for tartar sauce going to the Angry Trout), I absolutely fell in love with the Turkey sandwich. After eating out for a week, it was a wonderful delight after greasy food at every meal. Plus, the sandwich was filling and ONLY $5! If you are going on a day trip- grab a sandwich here and take it to go! You won't be sorry. That is my new Grand Marais pro tip!
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Fish and chips were delicious. Staff were all very friendly and our food was ready really fast. We ate outside on the deck. Would recommend.
google avatar

Garrett Z.

Yelp
Dropped by this place to get some smoked fish to take back to our camp ground. I tried the Smoked Whitefish and it was exactly what I was looking for. The only question I had was whether it was local? It said Morey's Fish Market on the wrapper which I know is based out of Motley and not on the North Shore... Oh well, it was good. I didn't have time to peruse the menu for too long but they had a nice selection of fresh and smoked fish and seafood. They also have a restaurant that serves us some tasty looking dishes. If I had more time in Grand Marias, I would stick around and try more of the menu.

Sharman M.

Yelp
Awesome stop! Very inviting with exceptional service. Fish was on point. The smoked salmon chowder was not to be believed. Desserts were otherworldly. Could not pick a bad thing on the menu. Truly wonderful.
google avatar

Kris J.

Yelp
Was lucky enough to have lunch at The Fisherman's Daughter (former Dockside Fish Market) and had the BEST Smoked Salmon Chowder! Wish I'd ordered the bowl instead of the cup! Also had the walleye fish tacos and fish and chips! Sooo good! Oh my favorite fries too- crispy!
google avatar

Yelp
I was determined to try a new place this time around. The 60's song Come on down to my boat baby kept running through my head. The store and retail part is impressive. We wanted to try different things to sample. I got clams and chips. I get fried clams wherever I can. Nice and chewy. Tasty chips. I started with a red pepper gouda bisque. As good as it sounds, perfect creaminess. Basil got fish and chips, very good especially the dill sauce that he gave me. They seem to have another type of tarter sauce and my sauce was red. I sampled his fish chowder. Delicious but way too thin. Almost like it was made with milk and not cream. They have a separate cooler for non alcoholic drinks. I loved the Klarbrunn grapefruit sparkling water and am drinking my extra one now. We took home cheesecake because it had a rare lingonberry sauce. You can sit outdoors, but we sat at the bar facing the outdoors cause it was the right height and the chairs were sturdy. I got a kick out of the young summer help wearing ankle boots. We resisted taking back snack spreads and crackers, just not desserts.
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
We had the fish and chips and it was good. There is a nice view of the lake on the porch outside.

Yelp
My wife and and I were hoping to grab a late lunch at the restaurant next door but the hostess was rude and stuffy AND they didn't allow dogs so we headed over to Dockside Fresh Market. They offered plenty of outdoor seating in front of their store and in the back facing the water. Best of all, they're dog friendly! I ordered whitefish and chips & my wife decided to try their fish tacos. The woman taking my order was helpful in choosing the right fish for me. They have a gift shop with all sorts of cute home goods, kitchen supplies, and foods (including ice cream and various desserts, yum). The food came out quickly and I have to say, it was the best fish and chips I've ever had. I mean it. Ugh, what I wouldn't do to be eating it again right now. My wife really enjoyed her fish tacos and let me try a bite as well. I didn't love their coleslaw as I prefer mine a bit more creamy but otherwise it was delicious. It was such a perfect spot to eat; the food, the view of the water, and the friendly staff. I can't wait to visit Grand Marais again, I know I'll be stopping in for their fish and chips!
google avatar

Jane G.

Yelp
Great views, right on the lake. The food is fresh and tasty, with yummy wild rice and lots of fresh fish. Great gumbo, with a little spice, and large piles of fish and chips. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. It's busy, so go early. If it's warm enough, there is outdoor seating, which is pleasant.
google avatar

Gloria W.

Yelp
We stopped in here after hiking for fresh fish and chips. The bettering basket was really good and my friend really liked the maple cheese curds
google avatar

Jodi V.

Yelp
Fast, efficient and delicious. The herring fish and chips is my favorite. They were so quick with the food and you get to sit on a nice deck with a great view of the lake. It's small but mighty place and I highly recommend it. Very friendly staff as well
