"Touted as one of the most “haunted” buildings in Halifax, it also happens to be one of the nicest spots to enjoy a seafood dinner. Historic details pair well with an old-school-meets-modern menu of oysters Rockefeller, Nova Scotia crab cakes, pesto-crusted halibut, and lobster thermidor." - Gabby Peyton, Kaitlyn McInnis

This was quite possibly the best meal I have ever eaten. We came here for our anniversary and our waitress Laura went WAY above and beyond to ensure we had the most amazing experience. The scallops were cooked to perfection, as was the halibut. The gnocchi was soft, with a crispy outside and the spin on the Barata salad with the plums and heirloom tomatoes is unmatched. The flavours and textures in the halibut dish blew my mind, and my husband thoroughly enjoy the 5 fish experience. On top of the amazing food our waitress was very knowledgeable of the whole menu and drink list, and was very friendly and personable. I wish I could give this place 10 stars because it totally deserves it.

This was such a memorable experience largely driven by our server Laura who is the absolute best. I’ve eaten at a lot of restaurants and happy to recommend them to my friends but the service from Laura and the unreal food will forever be an experience my mother and I will cherish, and I will gladly recommend others to come eat here. Super blown away! I wanted to take my mom to a nice spot to try lobster for the first time and the vibes were unreal. The restaurant is in a historic building and there’s some cool/sad stories about the past that we learned. Inside it’s a very nice and elegant spot, visually stunning. The food and presentation is unreal, my mom really enjoyed her time. They also have a cute tradition they do which my mom was pleasantly surprised by. My mom had lobster and I had the chicken.

We thoroughly enjoyed the signature lobster dinner as well as the Tuscan Caesar salad and Crispy Maitake mushroom appetizers. Our server Jane was absolutely fantastic! She provided attentive, friendly, and professional service. The ambiance is lovely. This is a great restaurant. Highly recommended!

We visited The Five Fishermen for a fine dining experience after reading great reviews on Google—and it was absolutely worth it! The restaurant interior was spotless and beautifully designed, with a modern and eye-catching decor that created a cozy yet upscale atmosphere. The service was outstanding. Our waitress, Yari (or Yani—we’re not exactly sure on the name), was incredibly friendly and helpful. She guided us through the menu and made great recommendations for both food and drinks. We started with a Nova Scotia white wine, which had a nice apple-like flavor and paired well with the seafood. For the appetizer, we had the shrimp snack—super tasty! The combination of onion and dill perfectly complemented the flavor of the shrimp. For our mains, we went with the local lobster dinner and the halibut dish. The lobster was a full 1.5 lbs, served with mashed potatoes, asparagus, broccoli, and beets. It was fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The halibut was also incredibly delicious—we enjoyed every bite. Definitely a place we’d recommend if you’re in Halifax and looking for a top-notch seafood experience!

Google
If I could give this place 10 stars, I absolutely would. It was relatively easy to make a reservation, and we were not disappointed. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious, the service was incredibly thoughtful (they provided desserts on the house, even though we were way too full!), and the atmosphere was lovely. We started the evening with the oysters Rockefeller and crab cakes for apps, along with the Glorious Purpose and Pineapple Nojito mocktails. For mains, the lamb, duck, lobster mac and cheese, and the Five Fish experience were delightful. Excellent mocktail/zero-proof drink options!

Google
Lovely meal with family. The waiter was very professional and explained the dishes very well. Sadly it was a bit busy to accommodate our celebration but in compensation we got some free deserts. Only downside was the desert menus was very limited, but it didn't ruin the overall experience. We would defo come again :)

Google
We had a fantastic dinner at The Five Fisherman. I had recently had surgery on my mouth and the staff were incredibly accommodating. They were able to put together a meal that was easy for me to eat and altered drinks to make them not acidic. Our server and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend and will definitely visit again next time I'm in Halifax!

Google
Food and service were great. We had kids with allergies and they accommodated it well. Our server was fantastic and everything we had was great.

Yelp
so you can search the Internet on any reviews I've ever done and you will never find one. I just want to take the time to put a review on this one. The food was amazing ambiance excellent service was impeccable. Our server went over and above for us, we were celebrating milestone and we had received bad news lately however the service she gave us turned our day around My wife was crying at the end of the night with the flowers she gave her I have to thank everybody for your excellent service atmosphere and food. I have not been there for some time sine we are not from the area. The food us always great. I just found it this time they went over and about this restaurant. Been there for a long time and will be my go to every times thank you very much Sylvain Poitras

Yelp
After hearing about the history of this restaurant and seeing it on multiple "must eat in Halifax" lists, we decided to visit on Halloween thinking that it would be spooky. It was a great restaurant and a great dinner, but if you're going for the spooky/historical aspect, it really isn't noticeable. The Five Fisherman has an upscale nautical theme, which is done in a classy and non-cheesy way. It fits perfectly with Halifax's Atlantic location and culture. Our waitress was really nice, and gave recommendations of things to do in the area. I got the filet with peppercorn sauce. The filet and sauce were both great overall, although the steak itself could've used a bit more seasoning. We also got some sort of chocolate peanut butter dessert, which was good if you like dark chocolate.

George T.

Yelp
Ambiance is good, and it is downtown. It's the one recommended by everyone. The server was incredibly attentive and the meal was fair. Overall, not bad just too expensive for not great.

Mike L.

Yelp
Their ambiance is the best with lovely interiors and attentive servers ready to take your requests or orders. We ordered: 1. lobster dinner - came with potatoes, biscuit slaw and butter to dip your lobster into 2. Lobster bisque - very flavorful but the portion is on the smaller side 3. Crab cakes - yummy 4. Tagliatelle - pasta with seafood - Not that flavorful but hits the spot

Yelp
My friend and I visited the Five Fisherman on our trip to Halifax in 2017. We were back in town and decided to stop by for another visit and were not disappointed. Not only are the renovations lovely, our bartender, Mason, was top shelf! He twisted a mean wine cap, recommended some fabulous appetizers, regaled us with stories of historical and haunted happenings. He kept us laughing and was a heck of a nice guy! We recommend that nobody ever put him on garbage sorting detail (or any other menial duties, for that matter)! Cheers! We hope to be back on our next visit to the Fax!

Yelp
Madea reservation but there was seating available if you don't mind not being in the main dining room. Main dining room was quite warm and was uncomfortable for the first 10minutes while we adjusted. Ordered the strawberry daiquiri but it was just a can. They must have added a squeeze of lemon to the cup as the glass was super sour but if you drink from the can it was only sweet. Not a fan. Five fisherman experience we shared 2 orders between 3 people. Definitely designed to be 1 per person. Each of us could have easily eaten 1 order alone. Everything was cooked perfectly and 100% would recommend. Each of us liked everything on the plate. Cesar salad was good. Normal but good.

Jon R.

Yelp
The Lamb was KILLERRRR. So good, and the vegetables are perfect!!! I loved every bite. We were given free dessert, Such a great way to end a perfect me.

Dianna Y.

Yelp
Salmon dish was yummy. The service was so pleasant. My son said the hamburger was ok. But what food are you in Halifax for but the seafood.

Micky W.

Yelp
Lobster dinner was excellent! Great service! Potatoes that accompanied were very good too (was surprised!) with a very nice kale.

Antoinette S.

Yelp
We are in Halifax n came across five fishermen with great reviews n thought we'd have dinner. Great choice. In the heart of Halifax nice clean restaurant w friendly staff. We were four n tried diff appetizers - the seafood chowder, crab cakes, pumpkin soup n the warm tomato salad. The pumpkin soup was ok nothing to brag about but the seafood chowder, crab cakes n salad were great. For entrees we got the shrimp n sausage pasta, halibut, filet mignon n the five fish. The pasta was so delicious w generous amount of shrimp. The halibut was different but was v good. The five fish was great too and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Generous amounts of shrimp, scallops, half lobster meat n fish topped off with a white sauce. The filet was v juicy . We topped it off w lemon mousse, peanut butter/ chocolate bar n strawberry pastry . The deserts were good but a lil smaller n pricey. All in all it was a great meal.

Yelp
I had two dinners at The Five Fishermen recently, while in town for a conference. A local had said it wasn't quite as nice or good as it used to be. But he was surprised - they really upped their game recently! For the first meal, it was a fixed menu, and I chose the seafood chowder and arctic char - both excellent! But the highlight was the second meal, where I had oysters and the lobster dinner. Both were so fresh and tasty! Really one of the best seafood meals I've had in years. One nice highlight to end the meal was dessert. The first night I had the chocolate square with sea salt. Very nice. But you MUST go for the salted caramel and toffee squares - unbelievable! Service was also phenomenal. Friendly and professional. Oh, and they make some mean specialty Old Fashioned's! Highly recommended if you're in Halifax!

Yelp
It was my first time visiting Halifax and was sort of doing my own culinary tour of my own. I had a high expectation coming to this restaurant. The host was very nice and friendly, however from the moment i was seated, it took some time for the waitress to actually came by even though the floor was not that busy. Onto the food, out of the things ordered, the chowder was the most decent. The five experience was no experience. The lobster tail was really sticking to the shell, the shrimps were not cooked all equally, out of the three only one that wasn't overcooked. Scallops were done well, so was the fish, but then all these supposedly delicious seafood were doused in sauce that was just overpowering. Dessert of the lemon foam was just standard. Overall, for similar main course, the restaurant across the street has it better.

Wendy M.

Yelp
The experience was the best. Our server was Laura and she was phenomenal. Gave us a tour of the restaurant, as this building was originally a mortuary. The food was fantastic!

Mitchell L.

Yelp
Upscale restaurant with excellent seafood. A go-to in Halifax if you are willing to spend a bit. I was on a seafood hunt during my latest trip in Halifax and stumbled upon the Five Fisherman in my research. Reservations were quite easy to make! The place is surprisingly big and spacious. The interior design is tasteful and elegant, but not too fancy. The overall atmosphere was quiet although the place was quite busy at the time. The menu is clear and simple with a variety of options (both seafood and land). The variety of wines and other beverages is nice and the service was attentive and professional. I ordered the seafood chowder and the five fish experience (seared jumbo shrimp, local scallops, half lobster tail, halibut, salmon, maritime gourmet mushroom risotto, kabayaki, nori cracker). Both were fantastic and full of flavour! I highly recommend the Five Fish Experience if you are torn between which seafood option to get as it seems to have a bit of everything. The chowder was also rich and delicious and my only complaint is the portion size (very small) which I guess makes sense given its richness. Both plates were a bit overpriced (in my opinion) but hey, they are supposed to be on the higher end of restaurants in Halifax. Price aside, the restaurant is a 5/5! Also, apparently the restaurant is haunted but it seems unlikely. Finally, they also have a special menu for vegetarian options (not huge but at least they have one).

Margarita S.

Yelp
Really great service and yummy fish. My husband and I both ordered the Five Fish special: lobster, salmon, white fish, shrimp, scallops over risotto. I didn't get the nori cracker because I am gluten free. The fish and lobster were my favorite, absolutely delicious. The risotto was yummy too. The waitress also got us a free dessert! The only thing I disliked was the scallops were over cooked.

Mr B.

Yelp
Staff get treated poorly The food is good but the higher ups are aweful human beings.

Yelp
In Halifax for a couple of days for work. The Five Fishermen had great reviews so I decided to go for it. It's Monday night but thought I'd call ahead for reservations. They're booked until 8:45! Bar seating is first come first serve. So I rush over and make it just after 7pm. No bar seats...but I don't know if there actually weren't any or the hostess was holding them for someone. She wouldn't let me have a look. Anyway, I was given the option of dining at 5 Social, their bistro/bar downstairs and thought why not! Great ambiance! Sat at the bar. Ordered a nice glass of local wine (Gaspereau Tidal Bay) and it was quite lovely! Ordered the halibut for dinner, which the bartender said was his favorite. I love halibut. This one was disappointing though. Everything around it including the sauce were great, but the halibut was so dry! I was so sad. I would have expected much better for $39! I almost wonder if it was cooked from frozen???!! Goes to show you...everything can be right but if the food is wrong, it's not worth it. We have so many options these days!

Christopher S.

Yelp
Food was grate, staff were friendly . We hung out in lobby and had drinks then ate in the main dinning room. Server peoples we all friendly. The scallops were amazing.

R B.

Yelp
I went back! It was for work, and I was like... I think I've been here. Yep, they are still putting food on only one side of the plate. It's delicious and expensive. And I'm fine with that. But the half empty plate just doesn't make me feel like I'm getting any value for money. It's just like "here's a half empty plate to remind you that you're paying double for nothing".

Maureen B.

Yelp
We ate at the bar. Great bartender, very personable . Try the smoked Manhattan. The food was delicious. Fish and chips, fried clams. Best we had in Nova Scotia. The bar is lovely and the seats were very comfortable. Highly recommend

June Y.

Yelp
This place was lovely and the food was delicious. It is certainly on the pricier side, but not too over the top. The steak tartare is particularly magnificent. The waitress and waiters were very nice. Not too keen on having a conversation but were otherwise very open. The hostesses were a little more closed off and not too smiley but you don't have to speak with them too long before being seated. All in all everything was mostly nice.

Mike M.

Yelp
Very good service. Food was really good. Seemed like this Resturant had a few different seas of sitting. Ours was good but felt like the back area of the upstairs part was much nicer. All good otherwise.

Kat J.

Yelp
What a lovely evening! Went out for before Xmas dinner with the family and had a lovely time. Lovely old building that has been renovated very stylishly. Fun list of cocktails (they do smoked manhattans and old fashioneds that was great) Our server told us about the history (vey haunted) and the menu was great. Lots of lovely options even close to them being closed for two or three days. We had oysters, scallops, 5 fishes and the streak. The steak was to DIE FOR. You could cut it with a butter knife it was so tender. The 5 fish were nice to try a few items but the swordfish was a little more fishy than I'm into (could have just been me) and the risotto was pretty salty. Overall though, I would highly suggest!

Laurie F.

Yelp
This restaurant is highly Overrated. The food is average at best and the service is terrible. Do not waste your money here. You do not want to pay 60 for a meal that is absolutely tasteless Super disappointing.

Kathryn G.

Yelp
Underwhelming food, especially at the price. Nice decor and location. Service adequate.

Tom K.

Yelp
We had very good service starting with the ladies at the desk and going through to our server, Skylar. Everything we had was very good to outstanding. Chili shrimp and Seared Scallops were outstanding. The Marinated Octopus and Crab Cakes were very good. The Pesto-Crusted Halibut and Acadian Shellfish Linguine were outstanding. We had a very good time for our last night in Halifax. We have some friends arriving in a couple of weeks and we will highly recommend this restaurant.

David J.

Yelp
It's not an easy hike up the hill from the waterfront, but it's worth the effort. The restaurant is attractive and energetic. It's, as you would expect given the name, a seafood place. There are good options for starters and entrees, and an adequate wine list. Service was excellent. We had the scallops and a grilled halibut entree, which were very good. We skipped desert, but looked at the menu, which was unexciting. It's a very good local seafood place.

Brandon B.

Yelp
One of the best meals we had in Nova Scotia overall, with quality of food, ambience, and service combined. The woodgrilled fish were quite good and the vegetable sides were simple and perfect. The brussel sprouts were great as a side as well. We were helped in selecting a great white wine. The waiter was extremely generous and gave us all the desserts after the meal even though we only wanted one, perhaps they were trying to clean out the desserts for the day, either way we won! The only "fishy" thing was the reservation issue: looked on OpenTable before stopping by and all times were open all night, so we just decided to show up. However, we were told the restaurant had no openings! and we should consider the restaurant downstairs instead. After some fudging we said we would take a later reservation and took a short walk came back earlier than they told us, and they let us right up. The only layman interpretation I have is that they don't want tourist walk-ins, I've never experienced that elsewhere so I think it's odd.

Priyanka T.

Yelp
Seafood heaven! I got one of the specialities (can't remember what it was called) and it was everything a seafood lover can wish for! The ambience was great, service was friendly and the food was delicious!

Karen D.

Yelp
This is more of a Tourist trap location. For what you get, the price point is high. Tourists are always recommended this place in Tour guides. Maybe there are some financial kickbacks. Its not terrible, but it's tired and there are definitely much better seafood experiences in area.

Diana S.

Yelp
A must try in Halifax if you're looking for fine dining and fresh off the coast seafood! This restaurant has friendly, attentive service and a beautiful, quiet ambiance with a decent view of downtown. A perfect location for dates or for hosting large gatherings. Lots and lots of fresh, high quality seafood with (limited) vegetarian options! the seafood chowder to start was absolutely divine. The balance of salt and cream was perfect and did not feel too heavy. The seared scallops were also very plump and juicy, but sadly did not come with very many. Do order a main from the "favourites" section. I enjoyed my five fish risotto (scallops, lobster tail, salmon, etc.) and my partner enjoyed his parsnip vegetarian risotto; however, we both found the rice to be too runny/watery. The best risotto that I recall ever having so far was at Terroni in Toronto; it was dense, coagulated, and very rich. This risotto could've been better if only it was denser. Lost one star for accessibility - there are a lot of stairs, unfortunately, which made it quite difficult for my elderly grandparents to walk up and down. The restaurant is multistorey, so it is possible to reserve a table on the ground floor. However, regrettably we were unable to arrange this for tonight.

Jennifer O.

Yelp
Took 1/2 an hour to get a mussels app and a chowder. The chowder was the worst. So bland, small and runny. Had to add hot sauce, pepper and salt and maybe tolerable. The meal took well over an hour to get to us and was mediocre at best. Aggravating that others that were there for 20 minutes got the same exact meal in 20 minutes from their arrival. The five fish meal was good, but not everything needs soy glaze.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
In Halifax for a conference, and came here after seeing the stellar reviews it has. The interior is classy and we were greeted by very friendly hosts. Our waiter had an attitude, but I have to assume it's because he had a long day (he clearly did not want to be there). We started with the roasted cauliflower appetizer. It was not good, don't order it. The cauliflower was more boiled than roasted (think boiled cauliflower with charred bits - as if they took cauliflower, boiled it, then dropped it on an open flame for a few seconds). It was mushy and unseasoned. With it came chimichurri, mushrooms, and crispy polenta. The chimichurri was the only thing on the plate that had some flavour. Overall a disappointment. I ordered the seafood smorgasbord - a spread of salmon, oysters, tuna, shrimp, taro chips, and lobster. While it sounded good on paper, what came out was more than underwhelming. For $45, I got 3 thin slices of salmon sashimi, 4 thin slices of tuna sashimi, 4 boiled shrimps, 3 of the smallest oysters I've ever seen, some taro chips, and something like a quarter of a lobster tail. The platter it came on was huge, but half of it was sauces (soy sauce, wasabi, pickled ginger, hot sauce, vinaigrette, and cocktail sauce). Everything was cold and the shrimp and lobster were extremely rubbery. This dish was a complete joke - go to any respectable sushi shop and you can get all this for under $20, easy. My vegetarian friend ordered the grilled tofu dish. She described it as boiled spinach with old tofu served in spinach water. I had a taste and she's not wrong - it's as if they chopped up some spinach, boiled it, and put it in a bowl (water and all) then topped it with week old unseasoned tofu. Absolutely inedible, and a disgrace for the $34 price tag. My other friend had the lobster dinner. It's her first time having lobster so she seemed to have enjoyed it, but as someone who has eaten my share of lobster...what she received was disgusting. The lobster was definitely not 1.5lbs as advertised, and what little meat it offered was extremely rubbery. $49 down the drain. We were all hungry after the appetizer and entrees, so we ordered dessert. The raspberry white chocolate creme brûlée was pretty flavourless, and my chocolate mousse was on a cookie base that was so hard it couldn't be cut through with a spoon. I left the restaurant hungry, even after spending $80 on myself. Two stars for the pleasant atmosphere and friendly hosts, but I definitely will not be returning and I'm honestly shocked how this restaurant has such high reviews.

Steve C.

Yelp
Service was excellent, very professional and friendly. Food, off the charts and a great display for desserts, we had to each have one!

Shawn M.

Yelp
Our family of five went to 5 fishermen on our trip to Halifax and couldn't resist sharing one another's meals because they all looked so darn good. Every bite was filled with deliciousness and I found myself still thinking abiut the meal the day after. Wish I had a 5 fishermen restaurant back home - I'd be a regular.

Brittany A.

Yelp
We visited on our last night in Halifax for our honeymoon stay and had a lovely time. Our server was sweet and brought us a couple of glasses of complimentary champagne when she found out we were celebrating. We opted for the shrimp appetizer to start - it was delicious. Plump chilled shrimps and a delicious house made cocktail sauce to accompany. Bae went with steak for his main and I selected the fresh halibut for my dinner. I liked the option of selecting a gourmet sauce to accompany each main - I picked their pineapple salsa which was nicely spicy and a great pairing with the fish dish. My hubby opted for the chimichurri for his steak and frites. Both meals were delicious although the hubster said his fries weren't as crispy as he would have liked. Would for sure recommend for a higher end, fine dining dinner while in Halifax.

Ann C.

Yelp
Wonderful dinner at what is clearly a top notch, high end establishment in Halifax, within easy walking distance of numerous downtown hotels (as long as you don't mind hills!) We were seated right away, service was beautifully executed - polite, attentive, informative. Selection of entrees broad enough to please everyone, including those that weren't interested in seafood. But for those that *are* interested in seafood, the offerings are divine. Seating areas are on two floors. We arrived around 6 and it wasn't crowded, by the time food was served a short time later, though, the place was packed (even though it was a weeknight and an overcast, drizzly kind of day).

Nina W.

Yelp
This was delicious and I would definitely go back! For a starter, I had the daily ceviche, which was scallop, served with some lightly salted house made crisps. It was fresh, tangy & better than expected. A friend had oysters Rockefeller, something she hadn't found on a menu in years & enjoyed every bite. I don't often take photos of my food, but I had to for the main course, Acadian Shellfish Tagliatelle... and I had to take pictures of my friends main dishes, too. They had the Arctic char & swordfish, for which you can pair your choice of sauces & over which we all gushed about how good it was! Mine was rich with seafood & perfectly seasoned. I cleaned my plate & my friends were equally satisfied. Desert options were shown to us on a small serving tray & although I passed, one at our table ordered the creme brûlée, which although she ate it all, she advised it wasn't the best she'd ever had. Service was attentive, timely & the water cheerful. The view was of a park & location near the water although not on the water. There was valet parking with reservation- wish we'd known about that ahead of time! I would call the atmosphere upscale casual, comfortable & charming. I would definitely come back!

Cathy M.

Yelp
We were here for a wedding and took a few extra days to try the local fare. We won't be returning to this restaurant. Several years ago we had a similar experience but because of the great reviews though it was worth trying again .... We were seated quickly and out waiter was attentive although I had to ask him to wipe up the drippings from my mussels, which were actually tasty. There was a puddle of sauce and he should known to wipe it up without me asking. As for the food, my Seafood Linguine was not very warm and my husbands Lobster was rubbery, a sign it had been cooked, frozen then thawed. They only serve 11/2 lb which for a seafood restaurant was very disappointing and the fact that it had definitely been previously frozen was also disappointing especially since it was more expensive then most restaurants serving the same dish. Save your money, it's reputation does not hold true!

Wesley H.

Yelp
Went there last night (Sept 2019) for dinner. Staff was very friendly and food was delicious. I had the seafood chowder, classic lobster dinner and shared some lobster Mac and cheese. All very tasty. Chowder has lots of seafood and tasty. Lobster was good (claw meat was taken out for you. So easy to eat). Mac and cheese was a slo delicious. Will definitely go back but it was busy so luckily we had reservations

Lee M.

Yelp
What a beautiful hip and trendy resto! Beautifully decorated with cool yet warm glass, gray, and colour added in the cushions. We were seated upstairs in a cozy two top. The banquet seats were a bit low so the cushion came in handy. Service was friendly and attentive as our server checked on us throughout the night to make sure we were enjoying our food. We ordered the Oysters and scallop ceviche to start and five fishes risotto and seafood tagliatelle mains. Oysters were amazing and the scallop ceviche on taro root chips were also great. The mains were both delicious and the tagliatelle was perfectly al dente with perfectly cooked seafood. They present the dessert options on a wooden board and we caved and got the mini smores and mini lemon tart. Perfect portion and both desserts were very good. The peanut butter whip combined with the toasted marshmallow and dense chocolate square was amazing. We finished off with decaf cappuccinos. Free valet parking if you make a reservation. What a great dining experience from start to finish! Highly recommend when you are in the area.

Yelp
This is one restaurant, but with two different menus: "the downstairs is more casual, while the upstairs has a more chef-inspired menu." We liked what was on the upstairs menu, so we ate there. This is one of the better meals I've had in a year (and I live in NYC, as snobby as that sounds). My mom and I split an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert. All three were cooked well and portioned perfectly for how hungry we were. The watermelon salad was an unusual combination: fancy foraged mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, pickled watermelon, beets, asparagus, greens, feta, and candied almonds. It tasted fresh and made for a surprisingly good combination. I think I could have eaten it as my main. Then, we had sea bass with chimichurri sauce and with veggies. (They were grilled red onion, baby carrot, asparagus, etc.) The sauce wash fresh, and the veggies were very tasty. For dessert, we had a lemon tartlet with wild berries like I haven't seen on a restaurant menu. The lemon was both tart and a bit sweet; it wasn't overwhelming, which is sometimes the case. All in all, the food was absolutely delicious. On the non-food front, we were happy: 1) They didn't even charge us a plate split fee! 2) The staff was very attentive and gave us impeccable service. 3) We were not dressed too fancy, and we were fine up there. Would definitely return!

Yelp
Seating options include small booths, banquettes, tables and chairs and bar dining. Multiple spaces, so you can customize your dining experience by selecting seating in the space of your choice. Maybe it was all the hype, but I wasn't bowled over by my meal here. It felt as though we were paying for the reputation. Bruschetta by a different name is $12. A simple, small portion of shellfish fettuccine was $32. They do emphasize locally-sourced ingredients. They offer vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free menus. No issues with my allergies. Initially good service from Tyler. He allowed me a sip of a wine that I wanted to try before buying a bottle (that bottle was $56 at FF; the next night the same bottle was $36 at a different resto). After dinner, it was harder to get Tyler's attention as he seemed more focussed on the tables around us. My dining companion thoroughly enjoyed the chocolate cheesecake. It's a tiny portion, which may be appealing to some. I don't regret going to FF, but neither do I feel the need to rush back.

Yelp
We sat at the bar and the bar chairs were very comfortable. Had the mussels Acadian which were to die for. My partner had Pan Con Tomate - highly recommend this unique dish. For dinner had the the five fish seafood risotto and upgraded to the lobster risotto from the pea risotto on recommendation of the bartender and boy I am glad I did that. The amount of seafood you received was well worth the price. The risotto had flavour unlike the one the night before. Partner had the Acadian Shellfish Linguine. He couldn't stop raving about it. It was delicious and very satisfying. Truffle fries were mmmmm. The service from the bartender was great and not over-bearing at all.

Yelp
Not sure I would go back because the food was OK, but if you're out on the town for a special night, this is not the place to be. The service was slow - our two dinners took almost an hour. And there was almost no communication from our server as to what was going on, in fact we hardly saw him. When the dinners finally arrived, the shellfish linguine was lukewarm, but the tomahawk pork chop was delicious. Though I wouldn't have ordered it myself, given that this restaurant is supposed to be known for its seafood.

Yelp
One of the best meals we had. Our server, Laura, was fabulous. Must try the scallop appetizer and halibut main - so so good and perfectly cooked. Definitely will go back.

Yelp
This was my final dinner at Halifax. Reservations was made last min (2hrs ahead of time) via open table and I was able to get a table of two at the upper dinning area. Once seated our waiter Dan greeted us promptly. He was very knowledgable and friendly. He made food and drink selection a breeze. I'm not a cocktail expert so I will keep my drink review simple. We tried their top two most popular cocktails "cloud 9" and "la fleur du monde", the latter being an award winning drink. Both are excellent and paired well with the food. We ordered their seafood chowder to share. It was rich and creamy with a good amount of seafood. My entree consist of their wood grilled 10oz Canadian AAA reserved striploin with a side lobster tail. I ordered the steak rare and they matched it perfectly. The lobster tail was not over cooked or seasoned. The steak was well seasoned, they offered a choice of sauce to go with it but I had no need for it. My dinner date picked their wood grilled sword fish and had it cooked to medium. Once again their chef cooked it to medium perfectly. The sides we picked was the chef's vegetable. It's basically fresh veggie the chef source out for the day. Dessert was another highlight for us. We picked their lemon tart and coconut chai cheese cake. All desserts are made fresh daily in house. They offer their dessert in two size: small and regular. We picked the small size to sample two instead of sharing one. Dessert quality match some of the best in Toronto. Make sure you save room for dessert!! Our dinner service lasted about 2hrs but it felt like a flash. This was due to Dan's excellent service and the pacing of when the dishes arrive. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and will return myself when I'm back in Halifax.

Yelp
I always consult Yelp before checking out a restaurant, but I was told to go to Five Fishermen by a pal who did her law degree in Halifax. Whenever a parent comes to visit their child, Five Fishermen is where the said child (and poor student) goes for a meal (according to my pal). We arrived at five o`clock, just in time for the Oyster Happy Hour. A dozen oysters were shucked and within minutes, our plate was empty. Each dinner comes with an all-you-can-eat mussel and salad bar - the mussels can be accompanied with a variety of dipping sauces (red pepper, marinara, garlic butter, butter, to name a few). As my main, I had the scallops stuffed with lobster. It was so good (my mouth is watering as I think about it). Refer to the photo that I uploaded and you`ll know exactly what I`m talking about. The squash puree was sweet and complimented the scallops well. For dessert, we had the blueberry cheesecake. Once again, another winner. The dessert was just big enough to satisfy one`s sweet tooth without leaving one completely stuffed (to the point of not feeling well). I really liked this place. A S O L I D five stars.

Yelp
Best meal we've had in Halifax. You absolutely need to order "The Five Fish". It had shrimp, scallops, salmon, halibut and lobster. Unbelievable. Special mention to Phil our server. You're not going to find a more professional or knowledgeable server anywhere. Great job.
