The 12 Best Hotels in Asheville, North Carolina - AFAR

"Housed in Asheville’s 1920s second high-rise and reborn as a 71-room boutique, this property preserves historic details like terrazzo floors and a grand marble staircase while offering playful period touches (rooms named after 1920s icons and a bright red 1939 Steinway in the lobby). The rooftop bar spans three patios—one with firepits—for sunset cocktails and sweeping views, and a speakeasy-style downstairs lounge harkens back to anti-Prohibition history. The on-site restaurant blends modern Appalachia with Italian classics using hyperlocal ingredients, and the dimly lit dining room—scented by firewood—complements wood-fired dishes from a kitchen known for inventive items like beef-fat tater tots." - Jenn Rice

Asheville Restaurants Try to Recover After Hurricane Helene’s Massive Destruction | Eater Carolinas

"Reopened following major renovations to a historic property and operating alongside an on-site restaurant, the hotel employs dozens of local staff and is scrambling to re-establish contact with employees after widespread service outages. Management has been able to reach staff only sporadically, is coordinating evacuations for anyone who needs to leave, and has committed resources to make affected employees as whole as possible during the crisis." - Stephanie Burt

Absolutely excellent experience! We arrived late in the evening for just a one-night stay, and from the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality. The gentleman at the front desk was incredible- he immediately offered us a glass of Prosecco, which was such a lovely touch after a long day. Also, gentleman sho helped us with historic elevator was amazing - he was talking and playing with our toddler. these two guys made our evening! The hotel itself is stunning- historic, full of character, and beautifully maintained. You can feel the charm of its old-world elegance in every detail. The service staff were all wonderful and made us feel genuinely welcome. A truly brilliant experience- can’t recommend it enough!

I had the great pleasure of staying at The Flat Iron hotel in Asheville, NC. I highly recommend The Flat Iron Hotel for anyone visiting Asheville. Come for the views and the history, but stay for the wonderful service! The hotel is simply stunning, with a masterful remodel that celebrates its history. You can feel the character in every corner. The three distinct rooftop lounges offer absolutely amazing, panoramic views of Asheville and the surrounding mountains. The basement speakeasy is a fantastic, sophisticated touch, featuring a great mixologist who crafts great cocktails. The rooms are spacious and incredibly comfortable, especially the beds, which guaranteed a restful sleep. The views from the room windows are truly beautiful. My only suggestion for an even better experience would be to add a mini-fridge and microwave to the rooms. I hope to see these small conveniences added as the hotel continues to evolve. They leave a post card in the room for you to send down a fun mail shoot - and they even provide the stamp for you. The star of the show is John, the old-fashioned elevator operator. John is absolutely amazing! His genuine happiness is infectious, and he is a fountain of local knowledge. He knows all the great restaurants and fun sights to see in Asheville. He went above and beyond to be helpful, making us feel like absolute VIPs from the moment we arrived. John truly made this hotel special—he is a priceless asset to The Flat Iron.

First of all, perfect location right in downtown, within walking distance of tons of bars and restaurants. Second, loved the hotel itself. Greeted with a nice glass of prosecco and a smile. The room was clean and just the right size. Loved the quirky features of the hotel, too. Old fashioned elevator (but modern one, too). Speakeasy in the basement, rooftop bar. Loved it!

Five-star hotel with five-star staff. From the moment you walk in, the energy is pure Asheville — a blend of art, hospitality, and mountain soul. From the manager to the doorman, everyone here makes you feel like you’ve just arrived at your stylish home away from home. But I’m not telling you anything new if you’ve stayed here before. By evening, the whole place comes alive. The Sky Bar, the restaurant, and even the corridors buzz with conversation, music, and the clink of glasses. Guests mingle with locals who know this place is something special. Step outside and you’re surrounded by Asheville’s best — restaurants, breweries, museums, and shops. Honestly, you could throw a stone and hit a musician or a plate of something amazing. And let’s talk about the food — because it’s every bit as good as the atmosphere. Head up to the Sky Bar for a one-of-a-kind cocktail crafted by their mixologist, then order a pizza straight from their legendary downstairs brick oven. Or sit down for a proper meal built from farm-to-table recipes that celebrate local ingredients and Southern creativity. Don’t pass up the taramazo — trust me on that one. I recommend booking one of the king suites for the comfort and those postcard-worthy city views. And don’t miss the small things that make this place shine — like the coffee and tea stations tucked on each floor, each with its own personality. Walk the halls, explore the quirks, and soak it all in. The Flatiron isn’t just a hotel; it’s an Asheville experience — layered in charm, taste, and heart.

The Flat Iron Hotel reopened after 4 year renovation. The design team did a wonderful job of retaining the old and mixing new design. The old elevator still works! We were greeted warmly by staff during entire stay. A shout out to John that gave us a ride in original elevator and helped with suggestions for restaurants. We stayed in King Suite and enjoyed 360 degree windows. The hotel is located within walking distance of shopping and restaurants. The people of Asheville are lovely. You'll enjoy your stay. Don't miss visiting the Speakeasy in the basement of hotel. There's also a rooftop bar with great drinks!

We had a wonderful stay! What a beautifully renovated historical building with fun nods to its past! The old elevator is so charming. As an avid postcard sender, the complimentary postcards was such a fun keepsake to send to family. The hotel was welcoming, clean, and all of the staff was so friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this hotel for your next stay in Asheville! We would happily stay again

I’m picky about hotels, but was very impressed by this one. Located in a beautiful historic Asheville 1920s era building in the most prime location possible. It has been tastefully restored and converted to a classy, modern hotel experience that honors the original style and architecture. Felt transported back in time in the best of ways. Stated in a Zelda Queen Suite and loved the spaciousness, light, cleanliness, and superb water pressure. Dined at the restaurant Luminosa and was very impressed. Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful stay at the Flat Iron Hotel! The room was comfortable, the service was great, and the location is perfect — right in the center of downtown Asheville with so many restaurants, shops, and attractions within walking distance. The rooftop bar has amazing views and made for a perfect evening, and the speakeasy-style underground bar was such a unique experience. Between the great amenities and the easy access to downtown, this hotel really made our trip special. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The hotel looks very pretty. There is a dining room to the left as soon as you walk into the lobby. We only went for some cocktails on at the rooftop bar. The drinks were o.k. I was expecting the grapefruit juice to be fresh squeezed, but it was too sweet. The Lemon Drop Martini didn't have the surgat rim on the first one?? The atmosphere is nice. We were there on a Monday evening, just as they opened. There were 3 outside balconies and the inside areas to choose from. I called prior to coming, and they said there are no reservations required. It is first come, first served. When we did get up there, the balcony facing the sun had reserved plaques on the tables. When I asked the bartender, she said it was reserved for a tour? When we left an hour later, the balcony with the sunset view was still empty. Also, since we were the first guests there that evening, I would have expected the tables to be cleaned. All the tables were a little sticky and had many drink rings from, I assume, the evening before. It was a nice view. Will probably try a different rooftop bar next time.
