Flint House

"Brighton’s pedestrian district plays host to this fashionable brasserie hidden inside a red-brick house. Enjoy a drink on the terrace of the first-floor cocktail bar, then head down to the buzzy main room dominated by an open kitchen and stainless-steel counter. Appealing modern small plates have a European accent and burst with freshness and flavour. Many of the good value wines are also offered by the glass." - Michelin Inspector

This is a nice restaurant experience, with great service and an interesting menu. We opted for the chefs menu, with wine flight, given it included several of the dishes we were interested in. We sat at the pass to appreciate the experience. The food was good, technically well done with some considered flavours. The portions were probably a little bigger than we required, but the ingredients were of a high standard and the finished product a pleasing result. The setting was nice but not as intimate as other restaurants we have tried. In summary, a nice experience but not necessarily one to repeat.

The Flint House is an absolute gem — the first restaurant I’ve been to in a long time where every single box is ticked with full marks. The service is faultless: friendly, attentive, and perfectly paced. The drinks list is superb, with thoughtful cocktails and an excellent wine selection. Every dish that came out of the kitchen was beautifully presented and bursting with flavour (highly recommended Sunday lunch). And the ambience? Stylish, relaxed, and effortlessly cool. A 10/10 across the board — highly recommended.

The attention to presentation clearly outweighs the attention to flavour. Every dish is served with intricate care and visual detail, but unfortunately, each plate falls flat in delivering a memorable or satisfying taste experience. The food is consistently under-seasoned. While this might suit some palates, I believe that if you're going for a more natural, subtle flavour profile, it must be supported by garnishes or sides that elevate and complement the ingredients. That wasn’t the case here—the garnishes felt mismatched and didn’t enhance the dishes in any meaningful way. The BBQ chicken in particular reminded me of something you might find at Iceland—visually fine, surprisingly juicy, but ultimately lacking in depth or character. The servers were very kind, attentive throughout the meal, but when we shared our concerns about the food, there was no acknowledgment or apology. It left the impression that presentation was the priority, not the overall dining experience. I wouldn’t recommend this place for dinner. That said, it is a beautiful space—ideal for drinks with friends. Perhaps their Sunday roast is more impressive, but based on this visit, the food simply didn’t deliver.

Creative and quality food, great teamwork which is a delight to watch. Especially loved the courgette starter and cod, but all dishes were strong so recommend getting the chef’s menu

My first time trying the Sunday Roast (at all) and it was amazing, especially the cauliflower and cheese croquettes and gravy. The staff were friendly and on the ball. The cocktail (GLYK'O) was also very tasty but small. Service is included in the bill.

The five course tasting menu was great and very reasonably priced compared to nearby alternatives. The front of house was quite abrupt and rude, but thankfully the table service was friendly. There is also a nice selection of wines to choose from, and a relaxed atmosphere upstairs.

Loved the experience here! The small plates are perfect for sharing, and the rooftop terrace adds a special touch. My favorites? The sweetcorn fritters and confit potatoes — so delicious! 🥂 The service was very friendly and I'm looking forward to visiting this place soon again.
