The Flipping Egg is an okay local spot, but my experience was mixed. The food quality was just decent, and it felt a little bit overpriced for what we received. While most of the food was fine, the pancakes and the syrup were definitely below standard and not that great. My main disappointment, however, was with the billing. I was charged an extra fee for whipped cream I ordered from my pancakes, but was missing. I didn't make a fuss because I didn't notice the charge until after I had paid, but it made the overall meal feel like even worse value. I hope they can improve their accuracy and consistency.

The staff was good. The food was okay. Lacking spices and flavor. The coffee average. The chicken fried steak was a frozen patti they slapped on a grill to fry it a bit. Hash browns were not cooked. All tables were dirty had to wait for table to be clean. No wow factor....

Well, I've heard some good reviews for this place but it was a mixed bag for sure! We visited last Saturday October 18th about 7:30 am. I ordered "The Normal and my Grandson ordered French toast and scrambled eggs. The service was great, the food (at least mine) was pretty awful. My eggs ordered over medium were obviously cooked on a blazing hot grill, so the outside was tough AND CHEWY and the inside wasn't even warm. I'm not an egg snob BUT a breakfast place with "egg" in the trademark has zero excuse excuse for not getting the eggs right!.. The sausage patties(4) that we received were gray and rubbery and reminiscent of something you might get at the dollar store. INEDIBLE! There is an ART to being a "short order" cook and producing great food. The FIRST responsibility of the owner/manger is make sure the ingredients are top notch( i.e. sausage patties) the second is mastery of the grill temperature and knowing the hot spots and the cooler spots of the grill and matching the food to the right spot and time of contact. This production is the "magic" of a great grill or diner. . few ever get there these days. With the OJ and Coffee along with an 18% tip (the waitress was awesome) my bill came to just shy of $50!

Google
Very good breakfast here. Staff is wonderful and the atmosphere is perfect. I will definitely come back here!

Google
This place is a great breakfast place. I've only been for breakfast, so that's what I know. The normal is hard to beat. But the texas hash plate is another great one. But that's not even the best part about this place. The staff is super friendly and funny and just overall welcoming. Ask for Cody he's a master at his craft. He's a really awesome server, and one big reason I keep coming back each weekend :)

Google
Food was fine. Nothing to write home about. Just walked in to try it again; but there was a line of 10 people waiting (Monday 10:30)- half the restaurant had open tables, just not enough servers.

Google
It was my first time here and I enjoyed my visit. I had to wait to get a seat, so I assume this restaurant must be popular. I had the Texas Hash. It and the coffee were great.

Cindy W.

Google
Food and service was good! Had about 20 min wait and the staff was friendly. Only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars is the prices. Drinks were way too expensive and lots of extra costs that added up very quickly! $100 for 5 people to eat is too expensive for breakfast.

Yelp
Flipping Eggs does not disappoint. We went Aug 11th (sorry for late review) It was a brief wait for a table. We received our meal in a timely manner. We had breakfast skillets. Eggs, Texas Hash, bacon and cheese. It was a little more than I could handle. I had leftovers that evening. I have eaten there multiple times and look forward to returning. Thank you Flipping Egg staff!

Yelp
So I want to explain our whole experience today on Fathers Day. We showed up and had a 30-45 min wait which was fair considering how busy it was. The problem actual began once we had to head into the store due to the winds picking up. My husband was standing right next to the door when it whipped wide open and broke on the hinge shocking not only the 3 of us standing close but the staff and patrons in that area. My husband was able to close the door and hold it closed before the hostess came over and gave him the OK to lock it. Over the next hour my husband was completely drenched from the rain. Unlocking and relocking the door over and over again. The 2 young ladies in the front would not have been able to safely deal with that door in 60+ MPH wind gusts. The owner came out beyond dismissive and walked away telling the host to man the door herself. She gave zero thanks or acknowledgement to my husband. He received more gratitude from other guests and the 2 hosts than he did from anyone else the owner and family especially. To make it even worse in the eye of many others who said they hoped the store would cover his meal (at the very least) we paid for everything ourselves. After this experience my husband refuses to go back to eat there again. Any level of acknowledgement from the owner would have been appreciated. The owner put not only patrons but their own staff at risk for a lawsuit. As it was I watched the metal panel off the side of the door fall on the host while she was dealing with the still broken door.

Yelp
Another great breakfast experience at TFE! We never miss a chance for breakfast here when in town. We did wait for about 15 minutes after our 1015 arrival but then got seated fasted and orders placed quickly. Food was out in 15 minutes tops even when busy. My Denver breakfast wrap and side of ham was amazing as it always is. My only gripe is that I had to pay $1.50 extra to have it made custom vs just holding the cheese (as I requested) from the menu set item as it was which was 50 cents more. How is it 50 cents more to hold off an item? Do note also, that OJ is $4.50 a tall glass and getting flavored hotcakes vs original is also a 4.50 upcharge. My kiddos 'normal' plate and OJ was over $20 lol! More than mine or my wife's plates! Just watch the upcharge prices as it adds up. The food however is absolutely amazing and the service is on point all the time. Great spot for delicious food in big portions!

Yelp
Do you like average food that requires a long wait and most of your money? If so, this is your spot. The pancakes are great but cost $15 bucks plus another $4 for gluten free. Rip off. Skip this place and go to Cracker Barrel.
google avatar

Jazlyn R.

Yelp
The service isn't the best but our waitress was accommodating one she did make it to us. The waffles were light and fluffy and tasted sweet without any syrup.
google avatar

Yelp
Always a delight to eat here. The jalapeño hash browns are on point. Definitely ask for Kristen. She's always working hard with a smile on her face

Yelp
Solid spot for some classic breakfast options. Service was super fast and the food was pretty delicious. The seating was a little different, sorta seat yourself but watch for a table which made it a little odd as there are people watching you to leave so they can snag your table but overall a good spot for a quick delicious bite.

Yelp
I ordered the biscuit & gravy & was hoping for a homemade from scratch biscuit smothered in gravy but, I was sooooooo Wrong! I've had store bought biscuits from a tube before & I don't like them at all, I know the taste & that what it tasted like. It was the small tube biscuit & No kidding 1.5 tablespoons of gravy on top, no gravy at risk of spilling over the edge of the singular biscuit was Hilariously Sad! Soon as I saw it, I knew but I went ahead & tried it, Yeah No! The waitress was nice, took it back but didn't take it off the check! Never again! No stars but had to put one to submit.

Yelp
If I had to summarize this place, I'd describe it as an independent version of iHop. A local diner feel. Nothing fancy or trendy except for maybe iced coffee. Service was great. Very friendly. Place was clean. Food is basic breakfast and lunch food. Coffee is decent. Not the best, but not the worst. Bacon was cooked perfectly for my preference. We can now say we tried it. Still looking for a place in town that has great coffee, delicious and unique breakfast food (more than a pastry or biscuit), and in a cool and hip setting. Lots of places in town meet some of those but haven't found a place that meets all of those yet. Still looking for a true New Mexican breakfast burrito with green chile on it too here in town.

Yelp
Good food, and mostly nice servers. But the dining area and building is extremely blandly decorated, and lastly a little on the pricey side for how much food you get.
google avatar

Noemi C.

Yelp
Why was the restaurant/ bathroom so cold. I understand when it's summer but it's fall. I'm being picky here but they need to change the orange juice they serve. I didn't enjoy it.

Phil B.

Yelp
When you walk in you seat yourself. Waitress was at our table really fast and took our drink order. Atmosphere is relaxed with good background music. The wife and I ordered breakfast. I had the Texas hash with bacon and eggs and she had the chicken fried steak with eggs. Food came out fast and hot. Order was correct. The waitress checked on us several times and my glass was never empty. For the price it's a good choice. We will definitely come here again. Good food, nice atmosphere and great service.
google avatar

Daniel G.

Yelp
Way overrated and way overpriced for a fair breakfast at best. $21.50 for the Texas Hash and coffee and they charged me an extra $0.50 for a tiny salsa that tasted like jar salsa. Then one of the workers drops the mobile credit card machine and walks away for me to cash out. Get outta here! Ridiculous!
google avatar

Michele S.

Yelp
This local breakfast restaurant was very yummy and the service was excellent! I was really impressed by the gluten free pancakes!! I had one chocolate cup and one regular gluten free pancake and they were both delicious!! The hot tea comes out with a really cute setup! Our waitress was 1 of the sweetest, most patient people ever! I was visiting but the locals I was with said they will def return.

Nicholette D.

Yelp
Wow.. EXCELLENT SERVICE, foodwas wonderful. Skillet with TX HASH. Haley was our servier. Sweet, efficient!

Yelp
The Flipping Egg is one of the top breakfast spots in Abilene! I have been on multiple occasions and the service is always friendly. Plan to expect a 20-30 minute wait during peak time and busy days, but if you go apart from those times the wait isn't long at all. Prices are decently low for the amount of food you get, and the quality is always fantastic. Everything is fresh made to order, almost with the same amount of intention you'd get from a home-cooked breakfast at your grandma's house. Both the sweet and savory sides of the menu deliver meals of exceptional quality and always leave you full (sometimes with leftovers!). My personal top choices are The Skillet (with whatever omelette ingredients you fancy), the Chicken Fried Chicken, the French Toast, and the Sweet Cream pancakes (I personally add blueberry to those!). The Cinnamon Poppers are great as well should you have a bigger party and want to have an easy sweet option at the table for everyone. 100% a must-visit for Abilene trips.

Eatin O.

Yelp
Prices are extremely high for what you get. They charge for anything and everything, including salsa, and get this, sugar free syrup! Food quality is nothing special and the manager is dismissive. Wouldn't recommend.

M H.

Yelp
what has happened to this restaurant? It WAS good. The food is not as good as it use to be. Servers are ok but not go getters. About a third of the restaurant is closed off. This is not the restaurant it use to be. Another restaurant bites the dust in Abilene. It use to be a humming place and the food was a lot more appetizing and tastier.
google avatar

Kim K.

Yelp
The service was slow. Coffee cold and not topped off at all. Ambiance..crowded Cafe. The taste..average. Nothing special here. It's flipping ridiculous. Would rather eat at home than here.
google avatar

Kathy Jo A.

Yelp
4.50 for a glass of orange juice is ridiculous. I was charged .50 for sugar free syrup. I have eaten breakfast at restaurants all over this country. Never have I been charged extra for sugar free syrup. Food was ok. Have no plans to go back.
google avatar

Yelp
Nine years since my review. I do believe it's time for an update. The Egg is in a much better location with a LOT more parking. Plenty of seating, but I wish there was more. The Egg is so popular it fills up fast. It's very popular with my coworkers because of the lunch specials. On a given day, there is pot roast, meatloaf, or chicken fry, with a side, roll, and drink for $6. Heck of a deal. And the food is really good. Wednesday is a $4 breakfast. Friday is $8 burger, fries, and drink. Come give them a try, but it's breakfast and lunch only. See you there!

Yelp
Oh my goodness this place has the BEST CINNAMON ROLL PANCAKES EVER!!!! there is some times a long wait but it's worth it. And the inside is fabulous.
google avatar

Jon S.

Yelp
I love this place! One of the best breakfast spots in Abilene. Their pancake and hashbrown creations are amazing. I'd highly recommend. Weekends are VERY busy, especially Sunday. Be aware.
google avatar

Phillip D.

Yelp
This place is #1 breakfast/lunch place on TripAdvisor yet Yelp Nation hasn't gotten up to speed! This is my 3rd time in and and I'm even more impressed. Great service, fast kitchen, clean and friendly. It's the only good diner in Abilene that caters to those who aren't carrying cash. Frankly I haven't tried the other place because of that. Got a 4 egg, ham, toasted red pepper, onion and cheddar omelet that was delicious and served 3 minutes after I ordered. Let's talk local. These businesses deserve our support, our money and positive reviews. They also deserve enough staff to meet the demand. Tip generously. Be a good human!

Teresa E.

Yelp
Great food! The service was excellent, very friendly server. I had the pecan pancakes. Pancakes and bacon were delicious.

Lisa B.

Yelp
Very good food. Long wait but at least they have call ahead seating! Nice server. Quaint clean building. Love this place

Charles C.

Yelp
Have passed by this restaurant for years. After a personal recommendation, we tried it today, and it's now one of our favorite restaurants in Abilene! We typically have haunted the Cracker Barrel and IHOP for breakfast, but The Flipping Egg is our new first pick for breakfast! Excellent omelette, biscuits & gravy, blueberry pancakes, and hash browns (we tried the spicy/jalapeño option), and had great coffee as well. The service was fast and the waiter Mark was excellent! We certainly plan to return!

Andrew L.

Yelp
Best breakfast spot in Abilene. There's always a waiting on the weekends. Service is always friendly. Place is packed everytime we've been.

Nicholas B.

Yelp
Great and friendly service for my family and I. Green chiles with breakfast was amazing. Recommendations were good! Friendly, laid back atmosphere. Safe and friendly.
google avatar

Aileen R.

Yelp
We had great service from start to finish. The staff was super but I mean super nice to our family. We had a two week old newborn in our group and the servers were just in awe over the baby. The staff was really nice to us. The food came out timely and was super delicious. I can only speak for myself. I had the Texas benefit with jalapeño hash. It was so good that I cannot wait to come back and eat here again. There coffee is good too.
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
Waited one whole hour to get a table when we were told it would take 20-30 min. After asking time and time again we were always told 10 more min then that passed 7 more min then that passed 5 more min - yeah NO. There were so many empty tables in the place too. Don't lie to your customers on wait time when KIDS are involved and need to eat. Horrible.

Hailey B.

Yelp
Absolutely the best breakfast restaurant in West Texas. If you're passing through it is a must try
google avatar

Laura G.

Yelp
The place is always packed but they work quickly to get people in and food to their tables hot and tasting wonderful! Ask for Marni !
google avatar

K M.

Yelp
Biscuits did not taste homemade or even as good as canned. Bacon almost burnt. Pancakes not great. First and last time to go here Very nice waitress!

Mark R.

Yelp
This restaurant is just so poorly run. My family went in on a Sunday morning and were told it was a 20 minute wait. Totally understand as it's a popular spot and breakfast time at 930 am. There was about 30 people waiting and when I went to use the bathroom I realized more people were waiting to be seated than were actually already seated. Over half the tables were empty and many were waiting just to be greeted. After finally being sat it took awhile to get any kind of drink in which we just ordered everything ahead of time. As we waited for our drinks and food I watched as the manager just wandered around checking random things while not looking very busy. Meanwhile his staff was hustling trying to get people served. The food was average and my wife and I who were both in the service industry for over 10 years each, both agreed we would never waste our time with this establishment again. If you're the owners and you read this. You're losing money every day you open because you can't even seat your tables. Sad to see so much wasted potential.
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
This was a good breakfast place with a bunch of choices on the menu. My wife had the Texas hash, which was good, while I did the Cinnamon Roll pancakes. They were rich, but excellent. Their bacon was also very good. While it doesn't rank among the best breakfasts I have had, it was definitely above average.

K H.

Yelp
It is so sad to me that this is only one of a few breakfast places in Abilene. Their eggs Benedict, which I had been excited to try, was absolutely foul. They do not advertise it correctly! Seems like a scammy tactic. Their English muffin was off and had more of a white bread consistency, they do NOT use Canadian bacon, but instead settled for a cheaper alternative Black Forrest Ham. Was that listed anywhere? No. Their hash browns are literally flavorless and the hollandaise sauce sadly follows in that category but it was also curdled when I got it. I have tried this place multiple times and can say it's just not that great. The prices are also insane for drinks. Its $4+ per drink. They charge an extra dollar for some canned whip on your drink.

Alex Dickey D.

Yelp
good food (amazing salsa) but I paid $40 for two people which is ridiculous. Our waitress only checked on us about 2-3 times within a hour. There were kids next to us and I'm not in love with anything except for the food.
google avatar

Ginger V.

Yelp
The food isn't bad, but the wait time and the service are never very good. Getting charged $1.50 for wanting toast with my gravy instead of a biscuit seems really ridiculous. You can get the same meal and service at IHOP, Dennys, Cracker Barrel, etc.
google avatar

Amber H.

Yelp
Food is always delicious and has overall great atmosphere. Warm welcomes and the staff is very attentive. My little boy and I love coming here!
google avatar

Tracy K.

Yelp
I am visiting from Pa, I was somewhat shocked to see no staff wearing a mask. I guess it's a Texas thing, but I have traveled plenty during covid and this was the first restaurant where no one was wearing a mask. And it seemed full, maybe 2 tables with signs that they were not available. Our server was ok, came back 3 times to get our order right and my daughter ended up with waffles instead of pancakes anyway. The Texas trash was good and the cinnamon roll was good as well. We had to ask for refill of water. Overall I was not super impressed.
google avatar

Rich J.

Yelp
Disappointed. We live out of town and had not eaten at the "new location". There's more space in the parking lot and the dining room. My wife had the chicken strips and I chose the Texas Trash. Best I can say....average at best. The sausage patties were tasteless....the worst sort of institutional food (think...school cafeteria). The biscuit and gravy was bland. The chicken strips were good, not great. The pancake was good. We were very eager to eat at this restaurant again, as we had a great experience last year. Something is very different. New owners? New cooks? Maybe we just caught them on a bad day.

Marcie C.

Yelp
So delicious!!!!! Every thing was so yummy! Best brunch we have had in a long time!!! We will comeback every time we are in town!!!! Great people, Great food!!!!!

Tori H.

Yelp
Flippin egg has some genuinely satisfying food and a great wait staff as well. I would recommend eating here or even ordering out simply because I feel like you can't really miss here.
google avatar

Aaron B.

Yelp
Poor ingredients across the board. Pancakes were doughy and too fluffy. I ordered the "triple" and a small cranberry juice. The "small cup" which is priced $2.00 is 6oz which is not stated on the menu. Small eggs were used without any seasoning. Bacon was mainly fat. Silverware was dirty and tarnished. Menu was easy to read but should be updated. The staff is their saving grace and were very polite and helpful. Environment is plain and of a 1960's diner style but kept clean. Overall price is too high to pay for the poor ingredients being used to keep up their profit margins.
google avatar

Jen R.

Yelp
It was ok, nothing special. Food was a little bland, coffee was not good, not the best service and a little expensive. I went with the intention of ordering eggs Benedict, but was disappointed when I didn't see it on the menu...
google avatar

Vince A.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast food and great service. For a great mocha, and perfectly cooked eggs this is your spot.
google avatar

Tina W.

Yelp
Great food. Lots of options. It's the only place that had cooked my eggs correctly in years! Service was great. It gets crowded on the weekends but it's worth the experience. Atmosphere is light and casual.
